Title: Slither Tab (my version)
Post by: AdZ on May 01, 2004, 09:00:44 PM
Okay, I think i've covered most of it:

Tune to Drop D.
Main riff: (used in verses)
------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------
---------------3-------------------------------
0-3-5-0-5-6---5-6-5-3-5-0---------------

Riff 2: (Slah plays this as a fill during the first verse and in the chorus)

------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------
--------------5---------------------------------
---3-5--5-6--5-6-5-3-5---------------------
5------5------------------5-------------------
------------------------------------------------

Alternatively you can play it:

------------------------------------------------
--------------1---------------------------------
-----0---0-1--0-1-0--0----------------------
0-3---0--------------3--0--------------------
------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------

Riff 3: (played once as fill in 1st verse and during the end of the song)
------------------------------------------------
----------------------13------------------------
----10-12---12-13---12-13-12-10-12---
12--------12-------------------------------12
------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------

The chords in the chorus and beneath the solo are
D5 C5 B5

the opening chord is D5

there are parts i haven't covered like what they play to close the riffs and what dave plays in the intro; anyone else got that?

Edit to add: I think i've got the riff slightly wrong, if i have, go ahead and correct it.

I always played the main riff like:

---------------------------------------
---------------------------------------
---------------------------------------
0-3-4-0-6-7-10-0-6-7-0-5-0-3-4
0-3-4-0-6-7-10-0-6-7-0-5-0-3-4
0-3-4-0-6-7-10-0-6-7-0-5-0-3-4

And the fill like this:

------------------------------------------
------------------b----------------------
------b----------5---------------b------
---3-5---6-7--------6-7---5---3--(5)-
-5-----5------5---5------5---5---------
------------------------------------------

Well finally a chance to post something not related to "boycotting" a VR album. Ridiculous, that's all I have to say.

Anyways, on the topic, the Slither riff reminds me of the main riff to the Deftones' "Shove It (My Own Summer)". It's a similar drop D sorta thing.

I play the main riff like this:

---------------------------------------
---------------------------------------
---------------------------------------
0-3-4-0-6-7-0-10-0-6-7-0-5-0-3-4
0-3-4-0-6-7-0-10-0-6-7-0-5-0-3-4
0-3-4-0-6-7-0-10-0-6-7-0-5-0-3-4

The little fill I play just the same as above, but only on the D string (the 4th string), and not with big power chords.

The intro is something like this:

--x--------------------------------------
--x--------------------------------------
--7---7--9s10---12------------------- x 3
--0---0-(let ring)---------------------
--0---0-(let ring)---------------------
--0--------------------------------------

--x-------------------------x-----------
--x-------------------------x------------
--7---7--9s10---7-------x------------- x 1
--0---0--0--0----0-------x------------
--0---0--------------------x------------
--0-------------------------x------------

Hope this helps  :)

just wonder.... is it standard tuning with the thickest E tuned down to D? or 1/2step down and down to "D"?

It's in standard Drop-D tuning. Slash seems to have stopped his former habit of detuning everything by half a step.  :)

I think it was Axl's scheme for everything to be flat wasn't it?  I'm assuming that because the new stuff seems to be played half step down as well...

Nice tab btw.  :)
