Really now? You mean like a single person, or... :hihi: Jokes apart, I like cricket (major sport where i'm from), but only when India play : ok: (Staring at the tube for 6 hrs is hard)

P.S: By the way, football is wayyyyyyyy better than cricket!

Well, second test vs Bangladesh starts tommorow. Congratulations to Graham Thorpe for reaching 100 tests!!   :D   Class act!

Doesn't look like Pietersen will play in the tests unless someone gets injured. Bell looks like a great player, and he's only 22 or something, 2 innings, 2 50's, I think he's made 70 and 65*, pretty good going.  Can anyone see the point in playing Batty and not bowling him or giving him a bat? might as well pick Pietersen as an extra batter and have batters go all the way down to number 8. We should batter Bangladesh again tommorow, I would have liked to have seen a better side before the Aussies to give us some proper competiton to get warmed up 4 the aussies, sri lanka or pakistan anyone?

The first test finished today with Australia quite comfortably beating England, Mcgrath and Warne were awesome and the only player who stood in their way was Pieterson (who dropped 3 catches) - looks like England wont be winning the Ashes this year.

Well well well!! Another test 50 to warnie : ok: : ok: Our top order could learn a few things from him. Tis ridiculous...but it must be said that while England may have won the second test, they havent won against a team playing to their potential. Australia are playing way below par and england are at their peak...the true test will be playing us at our peak...and we know what usually happens! :P ;)

Having said that, its been a awesome series so far! Hopefully it will bring more people to the game!  :D

The following commentary was done gradually over a period of hours, it didn't all happen in the time it takes you to read this post!

Australia will whip the living shit out of England as they have done with every other cricketing nation on this earth. Australia are invincible in cricket and will be for at least another couple of years.

:hihi: :hihi: :P

Series is looking to be a draw at the moment. It's lunch and Australia have enough time left to get England out, then beat their total...

Series is looking to be going to England...It's 16:00, Pietersen is awesome. Aussies probably don't have enough time unless they can get those last three wickets pretty damn quickly, and even then it'd be a real push to get the runs...

I'm starting to grin...but I don't wanna get too excited yet...

SIIIIIIX!!!

Warne's a real character, I love him. He gave a little salute when the crowd cheered the replay of his crucial dropped catch  :hihi:

Oh, and another from Pietersen....SIX!!

And a four....

Ok, well it's over....but there's ridiculous confusion, lol. What an anti-climax! Don't think I remember a worse anti-climax in sport  :hihi: I can't pretend I'm not completely disappointed with the way it ended, I guess that's a real flaw in Cricket. Barring some sort of freak incident, this sort of thing just can't happen in Football, Rugby etc. I'm really thankful towards the Australian team for coming over and playing some amazing Cricket with the English team, but I don't think many people would disagree with me when I say the best team won. Australia didn't play their best consistently, but that was because they couldn't handle England - not because they're simply not in form, so whoever the Aussie was that posted, placing a strong emphasis on how England had beaten a sub-par team...don't make excuses  :P Australia have played fantastic cricket at times, and England have still beaten them.

A few quick wickets tomorrow morning and we have gotta be in with a good chance of levelling the series! Hey sorry to blow my own trumpet but did anyone see the photo on the photo gallery on this website when I met Brian Lara at this years Tsnami game at Lords in June? i have to say that i agree with ricky ponting that it is great, but only in small doses and the game of cricket would go stale fast if it was too regular. Sure it was a good game but its hard to go and get absolutely trashed at the game if it only goes for 3 hours. I love taking the time off work and sitting in the wet area with my mates at a test match drinking all day and chanting WAAARRRNNEEEYYY!!! WAAARRRNNEEEYYY!!!! Yeah That's true But I think Freddie Is key as is Kevin pietersen ,Micheal Vaughan,Simon jones

so 1/2 the team lol

every1 is key to winning cricket against good sides, openers, middle order, lower order an tail all need to contribute.
its no good struass and tresco puttin on 150 if every1 else collapses and we get bowled ouyt for 280 or something.

as with the bowlers, we cannot afford someone to take 1-100 or something like that cos it negates any good work done by other bowlers.

Hoggard should become the 9th (i think) english bowler to take 200 test wickets in india, he on 190ish now i think

Aye, I watched it.

The United vs. Newcastle match was boring anyway...

434 was a new world record, and would have been incredible if it was ever repeated again in the next few years.

But having it beaten in the same match was just insane!

Herschelle Gibbs had one of the best innings of all time, it was amazing to watch.

Should do with some proper batting tmora!

Strauss back on form!

He's fuckin awesome, 8 centuries in 24 matches, thats some going!!

There's going to be a lot of competition for places come the Summer!

Trescothick: Will probably get back in the side on his record alone, which is very good to be fair!

Strauss: Amazing career so far, my favourite eEngland batsman, will surely get back in after that 128, but may have been shakey if not!

Cook: Deserves another chance somewhere but has got time on hi side so unless there are injuries will probably miss out!

Vaughan: Cert unless injured

Bell: Not a good tour to India, looks vulnerable on off stump, may miss out in England.

Collingwood: May get another chance at 5, had a pretty good tour in India

Pieterson: Certain starter in England even if he hasn't scored a ton in India

Shah: Deserves another chance at 4 after an impressive debut, a good run in the ODI's will probably guarantee him a spot against Sri Lanka

Flintoff: Cert

Jones: Good display with the gloves in Indias 1st innings, will probably get another go but needs some big runs soon, avaeraging less than 30.

S Jones: Should get back in if not injured

Giles: Career may be over at International level

Panesar: Looks useful, hopefully will get another go this summer

Hoggard: Cert

Harmison: Probably cert but hasnt been good since Windies

Anderson: Good 1st Innings, again good ODI's may give him another chance

Plunkett: Poor tour, one for the future tho.

My 11 for 1st Sri Lanka Test:

Trescothick
Strauss
Cook
Vaughan
Collingwood
Pieterson
Flintoff
G Jones
S Jones
Hoggard
Panesar

or maybe drop Cook and bolster the bowling with Harmison/Anderson

Then theres Shah and which ever 2 miss out from above

Englands cricket lookin strong!  ;D

Bring on Sri Lanks and Pakistan now!

Apparently most of the injured players won't be back for the 1st test, so it'll be another young team for the 1st few tests of the summer

England did really well to win the last test match and draw the series, however i think the Indians are at fault because they got arrogant and underestimated England.

Post by: Sweet s on March 23, 2006, 03:41:44 AM
Yeah they thought they had the series in the bag,Though Sachin Tendulkars lack of form let India down in the final test

I don't know if they underestimated us or were just outplayed

Also the Aussies have sat up and taken notice at that win, Langer said he'd gained new respect for England managing to draw in India with half a team out!

Next Ashes should be good, it could be Englands turn to dominate them soon with all Australias players comin to retirement age

Well, the county season has started, I'm a Yorkshire fan! Drew our 1st Championship game and lost our 1st OD'er. Gillespie making his debut today tho! Come on you Tykes!

Anyone else take note of the county game or just internationals?

first of all england got there asses kicked against india in the one days!!! and second they cant beat pakistan!!there amazing!!they lost in january and december and they will loose again!!pakistan has some of the best players

Inzamam
afridi
khan
yousuf
akmal
butt
ahktar
asif
razzaq
naveed
kaneria
irafath
 they cant beat pakistan!!

So they can beat Australia with:

Warne
Mcgrath
Ponting
Hayden
Gilchrist

to name only a few, and they can draw away in India who have:

Dravid
Tendulkar
Kumble
Harbajan

again to name but a few, and don't forget we had 6 test regulars out in that series including our captain, but they can't beat Pakistan.  Believe me it will be a very different story in England, Pakistan's batsmen will struggle in England with our bowling attack. Remember England have only lost 1 home test in the last 2 years.

And England have shown they are pap in ODI's and awesome in tests so I wouldn't read anything into our ODI mauling.

they will beat england for sure!!! it might e fixed maybe.because england doesnt want there streak to end.so they will tell pakistan that we will let you win the odi's if you let us win the tests! and when you named india how can you forget dhonni.he was number 1 batsmen for a while!!

haha

yer sure they'll fix it, the excuses are coming out early

I didn't mention Dhoni because he has being an international player for only a year or so where as the other players i mentioned have scored thousands of runs and taken hundreds of wickets

btw, hoggard should manage his 200th wicket in the 1st test! : ok:

Pieterson on 4 but if he gets in....

where have I made an excuse anywhere?
hoggard sucks in ODI's but has 197 test wickets at 28 each, so he hardly sucks does he? And how did India rip him apart? In the ODI's they did but I'm talking tests where he was awesome and ripped India apart if anything. Cos I don't really care too much for pyjama cricket (ODI's)

And you're probably right about the World Cup. England won't get far, Aus, India, Pakistan and SA are the top 4 ODI side's so unless they play each other before will probably make up the 4 semi finalists!

I never noticed a cricket thread on a GNR board!

I'm gonna be at Edgbaston on the 27th....barmy army stand....was there last year for the ashes...one of the most incredible sporting events I've ever been to.

It was a mistake to enforce the follow on I think, it meant they were in the field for about 250 overs, and a decent side never collapses twice, it was still a decent pitch remember, if we'd have batted again, the pressure of chasing 550ish would have been too much and we would probably have won
