Title: Buying an anp soon
Post by: gtaxe25 on February 13, 2005, 10:15:44 AM
I've recently started looking to buy an all-tube amp fit for my budget and so far Iv'e found the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe and the Traynor YCV40T.  I'm leaning more towards the Traynor right now(because of the 2 10's)  but I would like some opinions of those of you that own one of these or have played them.

Which one should I get? I play rock, metal stuff (g'n'r, metallica, megadeath)
Are they worth the money?
Is there onether brand I should look at instead?

The Traynor is the better of the two you listed IMO. The only issues is both use 6L6 power tubes which aren't really the best for hard rock or metal. I'd say EL34 tubed amps would be more suited for your style unless you're going to use the Traynor 40T for cleans and use a pedal for the distortion. The Custom Valve 50 Blue is probably more what you're looking for:

Don't rule out some used JCM Marshall combo options either.

Ask Pviljoen. He owns a YCV20.

On the same lines, keeping the same prices in mind, which amp (based on specs atleast) is better: The Traynor YCV50 Blue or the Marshall JCM 2000 DSL 201 Combo?
