Title: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Post by: Sterlingdog on November 05, 2005, 08:22:42 PM
Is anyone else excited to see this movie?

I'm really anxious to see it, it was my favorite of all the books.? From the trailers, it looks like they did a good job with it.? I'm going to go on the day it opens.? Not the midnight show, but the first show on Friday the 18th.? Everyone else I know has to work, so it looks like I'll be going alone.? Oh well, no one to share popcorn with!? I'm a little worried I'll be surrounded by teenagers, but its worth it.?

What do you guys think?

Remember in the last one where Snape told Harry that he was going to cut his heart out witha spoon?

"Because it's dull you twit, it'll hurt more..."

At least you are funny.  Always better to be funny than obnoxious.

I'll take funny, a smoke outta my pack, do the obvious with the latter, maniacally ruminate on the former, and then hit the sack.

Good night and good luck with the pregnancy, your writing and your current domestic situation, respectively.

Sort out out. Enough of that.

I think that the trailer looked fantastic, and I seriously think that this will be the best of the films so far. Its only hindarance will be how much has had to be cut out, but...The trailer looked fantastic.

harry potter.

the more my sister tells me about it. the more i can see it's hUge (with a big U) rip off of the lord of the rings.
she told me about the last book .... there are, again, so many similarities.

gosh i hate harry potter. so the *movie* .....

I love Lord of the Rings, and in no way does Harry Potter even compare to Lord of the Rings.  But even though there are some similarities, they are very different stories.  I don't think liking one means you can't like the other, but for some reason many people seem to see a rivalry there.

Yes their are similarities in both HP and LOTR . but hell it's not like it really matters everything that can be done has ben done .

i'm talking about striking similarities. not "inspiration".

but hey, if kids read. that's always good.
my sister got into reading thx to HP.
and she read the last one in english (she' 14). so that's always good.

i take back my hatred towards HP.

Outside of the use of magic and the inclusion of wizards and dragons, I see almost no similarities between the two stories.

I love the HP books (almost as much as tyhe LOTR books) and I agree that #4 was my favorite.  I  am taking my kids and wife to see it on the 18th as well.

I think alot of people see the giant spider in HP and think its a rip off of She-lob.  Also, a similarity between Dumbledore and Gandalf.  But I think that is more in the movies than in the books.

I forgot about the spiders.  In any case, I'm looking forward to the movie.  I am looking forward to book7 even more.  I have a heard time believing book 6 ended the way it did (i.e. with Snape doing what he did).  I am anxious to see where that goes.

what about the "nazguls" wannabe
the gandalf wannabe
the sauron wannabe (who put his power in some magic objetcs (rings?) ...)

and much more. i never read any HP. it just strikes me when my sis tells me about it ;)

Ppl think LOTR rivals HP cuz the movies came out @ around similar d8s and were both successful books turned 2 movies with a fantasy genre

one is a classic book. the other is a phenomenon.
we'll see how harry potter handles age.

tru thing. also, harry potter because it's had more books than LOTR (inc. The Hobbit), its evolved a lot. There's a huge difference between HP and Philospher's Stone and HP and Half Blood Prince (not in the no. of pages  :hihi: ) What i love about HP which authors such as Enid Blyton don't include in sequels and C.S. Lewis too is that the characters don't grow up but in HP they do. Also, they're alot darker as well and i like dark movies and books

Lots of shit will be cut from the story for this movie (eg no dursleys  ) They are good stories though. I recommend them to anyone.

I'm not sure I haven't seen it yet :hihi:

I think on the way to the Quidditch World Cup. I thought the Weasley/Dursley scene was one of the best in the series so far too and was looking forward to seeing in on the big screen :'( That's one thing I love about the HP books/movies. the movies are cast so well that you actually almost picture the movies when you read the books.

If you are interested this is an awesome Harry Potter web site. http://www.mugglenet.com/

I also heard that they cut out the whole Hermione trying to free the house elves thing.  That's ok though.  They have to cut some stuff if they want to make it under three hours.

I'm off to see it right now!   :)

much as i enjoyed reading the first 3 books of harry potter, in no way does her writing skills come anywhere close to tolkien, the best she can write is with a bit of wittiness and pander to childrens fascination of fantasy...tolkien could wrap the 5 senses into one sentence,  I dont think Rowling is capable of that

So are the films any good? ive never seen any of them

Tolkien and Rowling really can't be compared.  Lord of the Rings is a far more complex and meaningful story than any Harry Potter book.  But Harry Potter is still good, its just in a different sort of league.

Rowling should get credit for being able to write for a 10 year old, yet still write in such an entertaining way that people of all ages enjoy the books.  The Harry Potter books are engaging, not life changing, but great stories.  And I think her writing has improved over the course of the books.

As far as the movies, they are decent.  The books are better, but isn't that almost always the case?

This last one is a good movie, but they cut alot of stuff out.  Still I was entertained the entire time, I never once checked the time to see when it would be over (something I always do if a movie slows down...even a great movie).  So it was good.

What was really funny to me was the scene where Harry is about to get into a tub, and he is seen shirtless.  The gasps and giggles from the teen girls in the audience was hillarious.

I like the Harry Potter books, but I'm not a huge fan.  At any rate, I went and saw the movie today, and it really was the best film yet.  I think as the characters get older they get more interesting for an older audience.  And Sterling, the same thing happened in the theatre I was in during the tub scene.  Looks like Harry and Ron are getting buff.  :hihi:

I'm glad that they cut out a lot of the stuff from the novels too, because this movie just seemed to flow better and be more consistently entertaining than the other three, which all seemed to drag a bit.  The plot here was leaner and meaner, and there was a lot of funny stuff during that part about the Yule Ball.

By the way, how about that trailer for the new Superman movie?  Looks awesome!

Quit comparing HP to LOTR! you make yourself's sound like asses!!  They're both just books for christ sake!!
