Title: The greatest b sides thread.
Post by: Megaguns on March 18, 2006, 08:21:17 PM
There are some absolute killer b sides out there, Many that deserved to be on the final cut of the album. Anyone care to shed some light on some of the better ones?

Wrong Section ;)

On topic.

Monster Magnet - I'm Five Years Ahead of My Time, killer track one of my personal faves, well worth downloading, why it never made any of their albums, maybe 'cos they thought it was to ahead of it's time for people to get it ;) :P

Skid Row - Forever - One of the best songs ever by this band, definately top 5 and it has hit single potential, why it never surfaced 'til their greatest hits album, nearly 10 years afte being recorded i have no idea.

I believe that Revolution and I Am the Walrus were released as B sides of singles of the Beatles, but they were released on albums.  One of the best tracks I've ever heard that never made it to an official album of any band is Shadow of Your Love by Guns N' Roses.

ice, ice baby by vanilla ice. Originally the b-side to some even worse single, ice ice baby was only played by mistake at three am on some local radio station by the next evening it was worldwide baby.

Well I didn't know that! Very funny  :hihi:

I think two great b-sides are "Acquiese" by Oasis or the Vines cover of "Ms Jackson"

Well it was eventually released on "Lost Dogs" but "Footsteps" by  Pearl Jam was always one of my favorite songs that only the diehards knew.

Oasis always puts out great b-sides also. Masterplan, Talk Tonight, Rocking Chair.

I also seem to recall Tears For Fears releasing some great extended singles during the Songs From The Big Chair Era.

Erotic City by Prince. It's one of his most famous songs. It was a b side that didn't make the Purple Rain album.

Iron Maiden- Burning Ambition.
Manowar- I Believe.

Hmm, that's all I can think of. Most bands I know are too kvlt to release singles, so there aren't many b sides.  ;)

I can recommend the B-side album Incesticide by Nirvana, which the best song is Sliver.

Def Leppard and Oasis regularily put out b-sides which surpass the single their bundled with

Check Retro Activ and The Masterplan, both bands, eventually, released these b sides on albums...

Bon jovi "Edge Of A Broken Heart" wouldve easily been a top 10 hit if it had made Slippery When Wet and is one of Bon Jovi's biggest regrets.

Mercy - U2  Not technically a B-side. It's never been released on any format. It's basically a  leaked demo

The Masterplan - Oasis  Not just the song but the whole album.

Yellow Ledbetter - Pearl Jam  is classic. they ended their show in Calgary with it. Fucking awesome!

The Wildhearts have more b-sides than album tracks, and they're all excellent!

The Black Crowes have some amazing ones as well: "Feathers" which was only on a promo CD for the 1995 HORDE Festival is an amazing song.

Megadeth - New World Order (remix)

Their best song - eventually did make it on to an album as a bonus track, many years later, cant think of a better riff.....

That song was actually on a soundtrack in the late 80s and did chart at #38 I believe too and stayed there for 2 weeks before falling off.

I change my vote, after some research....

the best b-side (it eventually became an A side) is:

I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor

The best b-side ever (and my FAVORITE song ever) has to be "Hey, Hey What Can I Do" by Led Zeppelin.  Another awsome b-side (that is if you are a Queens of the Stone Age fan) is "Ode to Clarissa"---  a balls out rocker!

Yellowledbetter was the Bside the to jeremy single and a live version was the bside to the daughter single... i think its the best pearl jam song..
also, wasn't stairway to heaven a B side?  or was it just never released as a single?

I completely forgot about the "Joshua Tree" B-Sides. Great stuff there.

Walk To The Water was my favorite but "Luminous Times" and "Everlasting Love" were great also.

Hell, almost forgot "Room At The Heartbreak Hotel"
