Title: abuse of the "karma" points.
Post by: speed-stone on May 07, 2006, 07:55:46 PM
i would like jarmo to respond to this topic, as well for others to see it. i am in no way trying to create controversy here, i have better things to do really, but i have now gotten 4 negative rep points already. in the "karma" thread i have not attacked a single person, go and look in the thread, yet I am the one receiving the bad rep points. and for what? not being liked by moderators? are you going to ban every single person you don't like now, even if you don't really know them or they haven't even broken the rules? this makes me just want to stay on gnr related topics in the future, getting into debates with people will obviously have a moderator step in and hand out bad rep points to the person they don't like. it's a shame. i just want to make people aware that this could happen with the new system, it already has. again, this thread isn't to start any controversy, so just stay on topic please.

I am probably the last person you want advice from, but I'll give it anyways since we have a long history. You constantly insult people here, and have done so for years. Have you ever read the rules here? Lets forget about your seemingly morbid obsession with me for a second. I see you doing the same thing to many others here. You do post good posts from time to time, but you always go back to the same old shit. Just the other day, we were actually having a discussion about BH in the former gunners section. I could probably find somewhere else where you have quoted a post of mine and there will be an insult in your post.

Something else you do from time to time is threaten to kill someone, or wish for people here to die. That is fucking ridiculous. No one here has ever did anything to you for you to say those types of things. People are entitled to their opinions without getting stalked or insulted by you.

Jarmo has given you many chances here. You keep signing up under different names, but it only takes a few posts from you to be able to know who you are. It seems like you would finally learn how to act on a forum. I guess not, because you keep coming back saying the exact same things.

Im just curious! this may be off topic but how do people continue to reregister? arent you able to block there ip? I have noticed since this Karma thing has been set up people watch and think more before they post.. I may have participated in a heated debate about GNR and Nu GNR.. But it was wrong and it was in the wrong place.. should have just kept my mouth shut over it! neways i have faith in the mods that they will use it accordingly

first, i'm floored that you still think i (and others) care enough about you to have a "morbid obsession" with you. now that's fucking ridicilous. seriously, get over yourself , man. sorry to disappoint you but you are nothing but letters on a screen to me. secondly, i have never in my life threathened to kill someone, online or otherwise. i urge you to find a single post to back up your claim, you won't find it. this is an outrageous lie and an insult to me. and about the "go die" thing, it's a figure of speech which alot of people use. welcome to the real world, james. are you about done now? good.

i gotta a karma point  :'( .my own fault for insulting somebody (even though my original post was in good humour eh christos  ;) ) so why cant you give up now speed-stone.if ye carry on its gonna be goodnight for ye.this system will work im sure but you gotta stop thinking that the mods are picking you out coz your jus gonna keep insulting mods n poeple here and thatll be the end.just turn around and go and have a healthy debate or discussion with somebody.

another thing, how long do these karma points last and is there a way to get rid of em,maybe if i come and wash the mods cars or do their gardens for them  :hihi:

Hey can I get positive karma points Jarmo?

Say,  +10 would do nicely, I've been good, ask from my parole supervisors  :hihi:

Anyway I just wanted to say that Jarmo is the man and all the moderators are really nice people, if they let you know them.

Question: if a person has some negative points, can he/she ever get back to zero? Or are the negative points there forever? Can "good behavior" for a period of time redeem the past and get the person back to zero? Just curious.

Of course.

And also, this system doesn't mean you can't get banned without warning.

It would probably be time consuming, but I think it would be cool, if people were PM'ed a link to where exactly they broke a rule and received a negative point, that way they know exactly what they did wrong.

yeah, that way we wouldn't have "mods" handing out these points because they don't care for the poster.

Don't worry, the ones who need to know the reason, are made aware of it...

The 'Karma' idea is good.

Jarmo has said if you clean up your act you will have the Karma points refreshed!  This isnt a chat room.  It's a place where people can voice their opinions and read some others.

That dosent mean that things cant be taken light-heartedly, it just means you need to behave, obey the rules and shut up to the authority... whether you like it or not.  Its not your board.

Karma is smart, I would be willing to accept any negative karma I get if I deserve it.  If I asked for why, and got a reason, I wouldnt put up a fight at all... it would teach me a lesson.   Learn yours.

The best you can ever hope for is to hit 0.

They're called "karma" points because, I think, that's what the board software calls them.

Yes, I know what karma is.

I'm sure the person asking the question does, too.

It seems they were asking why the particular label was used, rather than "reputation" or whatever other board software calls it.

Karma is a mental force which causes positive or negative thinking. If you do something bad, karma will come to bite you in the ass, and if you do something good, karma will reward you. That is why they're called karma points... perhaps if positive Karma points were added, we'd all feel more positive about this.... I dunno.... just me rambling now! :hihi:

Title: Re: abuse of the "karma" points.

If people got positive ones we would get the exact same arguments.

Plus how do you decide when a poster deserves one?

Title: Re: abuse of the "karma" points.
Post by: Mandy. on May 09, 2006, 04:16:31 PM
Exactly! There's nothing like a "brilliant" post. People would have different opinions about what is brilliant and what is not, therefore it would make the whole positive karma thing unfair. On the other hand, rules are rules. You accept it or you don't, and if you don't then you shouldn't have registered in first place.

Title: Re: abuse of the "karma" points.
Post by: Axls Locomotive on May 09, 2006, 04:51:08 PM
does anyone actually understand that the karma points in this situation dont actually refer to karmaitself ...they are being used as a device to judge a persons worthiness for a ban

so all these arguments on how to get positive points are pointless (sorry about the pun).
