@ ashlar....maybe the guitarists can pick what they want for solos ;)

That's true but if Axl was deadset on the song being 'retired' then he wouldn't want Thal playing it. It's pretty obvious Thal browses the internet alot so he prolly got the idea himself.

There will always be some assholes its a matter of probability.

I'm sure it'll be fine. ?There's always a few assholes in any crowd. ?SOME hardcore metal fans probably aren't thrilled that GNR is on the bill since they're not a metal band. ?But most people are open-minded. ?I'm sure the place is packed with enough GNR fans.

Yeah, I dont understand why the song is now being ignored. Question to those of you who were in NY: Did this song get a lukewarm response? Its the title track of the album, and its also a short song. No reason to not play it.

I was at the last show, the crowd loved it. Saw a lot of people really rocking out to it. It's a great rock song, especially with the new intro. I really have no clue as to why they aren't playing it at every show. Same with 'T.W.A.T'...  ???

Well, TWAT is longer than CD, so its a little understandable if it isn't in the setlist. Two AFD songs might have to be dumped to include it. :hihi: CD has been played since 2001. It needs to be in the setlist.

I have loved CD since the first time I heard it. CD and The Blues is what made me realize this band could really do something incredible. Yeah, CD would be a great opener. Hell, I thought it was potentially the first single until they dropped it from the setlist.

I honestly think C.D is the most lyrically weak song of the new batch... like "it would take a lot more time than you.. have got for masturbation".. I expect more maturity these days on the new songs.. would be better if it was ... "than you have for procrastination"... even then I still don't think the song is that strong lyrically. But, it does have a catchy intro.. and a good beat. I really don't think single material though.

Ohh, and it got good applause in NYC all 3 nights I went.

Read between the lines, see beyond the face value. "Masturbation" could mean self-indulgence or narcissism.

Its only lyrically weak to those who think its about China. If you'll look past that, you will see he is talking about his fans and the possibility of the album not even coming out. But this isn't the thread for a discussion about that, and its been discussed many times.

I'm glad it got positive responses in NY. He should give the song a chance to get positive responses in other countries also. :hihi: I have always thought it would be a good single. Like you said, catchy intro, and its length is perfect for radio. But excluding it from the setlist pretty much rules it out ever being a single.

Hmmm, never really looked at the lyrics that closely, I never thought it was about the album or the fans at all... I'll listen again another time in that aspect, but it was always one of the songs in NYC near the end of the show, and it got cheered pretty good, I mean I don't hate it, I just put it on a level with lets say "my michelle" or "perfect crime"

Ugh, this is the show I've been dreading the most. I've been so weary as to how this crowd would react to the set-list. GNR's show isn't a "metal" show. Hope everything turns out great, though.

What are you talking about metalheads love GNR and besides they are headlining the festival most of the people there went to see GNR.

There will always be some assholes its a matter of probability.

you get asshole's at any GNR gig! "where's slash" lol :hihi:

I have a feeling that Izzy Stradlin is going to rejoin GNR , I don't know why? I just have a feeling.? If that happens I know that Bumblefoot would probably be the guy who gets dropped.? Which i think would suck? because I think Finck is a terrible live guitarist.? if Ron Thal were no longer in the band? I? wish that Fortus? got all the major leads? instead of finck.? Robin is just too sloppy.? This band still doesn't have that Guitarist that someone can associate with the band .? With the old band? when you thought of guitarist ( slash immediately came to mind )? With this band? you don't know which guitarist to identify with GNR? ?it's all over the place .? ?I would hate to think that Finck would have to be that guitarist , he's just not world class in my opinion.? And it couldn't be Ron Thal because he hasn't written any of the new material .? Richard fortus joined the band in 2002? when almost all of the material was already created.? ?This band has no identity as far as a guitarist.?  Buckethead was that identity but too much of a freak in my opinion.   Is it that hard to find a guitarist that looks and plays badass?

The album not even coming out ? ;D
Axl is in to Geffen Records for about $13,000,000. If the album doesn't go Platinum (which it won't) and Axl cancels any shows at all this summer, he is going to go to PRISON for de-frauding Geffen out of 10 years and a shitload of money.

I think they should just go ahead and have Axl arrested.

. Richard fortus joined the band in 2002  when almost all of the material was already created.   This band has no identity as far as a guitarist.

Source? As far as I know, we basically know shit all about what has gone on the during the recording process of CD apart from speculation and vagueries. Stuff has been created and recorded, but is it going to be CD? To make the assertion that CD was mostly created pre-2002 we would need answers to these questions:

- What will be on CD?
- Who's writing the stuff?
- When was it written?
- When was it recorded?
- Who's played on the stuff?

There has been good guesses, but no solid answers as of yet. In fact, Axl himself said the band went into a productive creative period AFTER Buckethead left. Who knows, maybe a lot of CD will come from that  ???

Ridiculous - GnR's record company own what they have created, which is two and a half albums of stuff apparently. They can just release that to reap the cash if they want. THEY are indulging Axl and giving him the privilege of playing things on his own terms. Axl is doing nothing illegal by using that.

And for the sake of argument, do we even know the details of the contract GnR is currently under?

-------------

Besides this is all way off topic. We should create a new thread if people are really interested in discussing this.

Gimme a break. ::) You say that all the time. Give reasons why you really think it wont go platinum instead of just saying that. Hell, the response to that lame hits album is just one of many examples it will go far beyond platinum.

Is anyone denying that the stuff was mostly written before fortus arrived?? Haven't we heard at least 6 songs that will make cd?? The leaks seem to be pre fortus being those names were mentioned a few years before.. Maybe fortus is like bfoot

On a 13 track album though that leaves another 7 songs we havent heard. Itd be absurd to think that the whole of CD is stuff that could have come out at least 5 years ago.

If the album doesn't go Platinum (which it won't)
Gimme a break. ::) You say that all the time. Give reasons why you really think it wont go platinum instead of just saying that. Hell, the response to that lame hits album is just one of many examples it will go far beyond platinum.

of course it will go platinum, but I wonder why it'll go platinum or multi platinum? Will it be because new gnr music in 15 years or will it be because of a powerfull single drving people to the stores..? There's a big difference between those two situations.. Judging by greatest hits and no publicity it's the gnr name selling eevrything, is it impulse buying when people check the gnr racks?

Well seeing how long axl has been talking about how cd could drop for years now it's safe to say every song has been in the works for a very long time.. Kurt loder was talking to axl about cd in 99

Course CD will go platinum the name alone will be enough to sell that much, the quality of the music probably determines on how much higher sales go.

Fortus said in 2004 or 2005 that he hadn't written with the band and his recordings were 'quick'. Seems like he's not really involved.

Oh OK. Point conceeded.

But, to drag the argument on - him admitting he doesnt participate in the song writing does not mean it hasnt been ongoing after 2002.

?This band has no identity as far as a guitarist.?? Buckethead was that identity but too much of a freak in my opinion.? ?Is it that hard to find a guitarist that looks and plays badass?? ? ?

I've been thinking a lot about this too... and the conclusion I've kind of come to is that maybe we aren't supposed to be looking to the lead guitarist position for that "#2 guy" in the band or whatever. The more I've followed the modern Guns... the more I've come to feel that Tommy Stinson is really the #2 guy behind Axl. He's easily the most independently famous member in the band (Dizzy's fame comes from being a minor role player in the old GN'R, and the live NIN players (Robin) never got much notoreity)- and we know he's stood up to Axl already and lived to tell the story (showing me that Axl values greatly what Tommy brings to the band and that he wields a certain level of power and influence that I can't imagine that the other players have)- and if Axl were to fire his ass tomorrow- Tommy would immediately land on his feet as the bassist for Soul Asylum, taking part in a Replacements or Perfect reunion or recording his eagerly awaited for follow-up to VGH. Can't really say the same for the other guys.

Additionally, I think having the lead guitar slot be somewhat of a blurry "hard to define" entity in new Guns is a designed way to water down the Slash v. X comparisons, as well as, a way for Axl to maintain control over the whole thing.... once you have a lead guitarist that's becoming a star in his own right... then suddenly, potentially, you're right back in the whole old Axl v. lead guitarist arguments, etc. I don't think Axl wants that this time around.

Maoaxl, I agree with you completely. Axl has his bases covered with these three players. All are very different but they, as a team, make up for the absence of Slash sonically. Yet, they aren't a threat to Axl's dominance. Tommy is definitely the number two man in terms of personality and perceived power. We should wait and hear the album before judging the guitarists ultimate worth and contributions.? Izzy isn't coming back ::) maybe a few shows or in a limited writing capacity but that would be it.

Tommy = The General  :hihi:

I still think Robin is the soul of this band, musically anyway. Better is a prime example of it. He would be the biggest loss to this band if he ever left. Brian May said he was brought in (after Robin quit) because Axl was so emotionally attached to Robins work and couldn't listen to it.

Axl
Tommy
Dizzy
Robin
Richard
Bumblefoot
Brain
Pittman

There's no way Dizzy is over Robin! And Bumblefoot over Brain? I don't think so.

Even though I don't know one way or the other about the seniority (or rank) in this band, I will agree Pittman is low man on the todempole :hihi:

sounds utterly BS. Pittman is always on the top of the stage alongside with Dizzy.

This band is not about who is the bigger.  Everyone is doing what he is good at.
I don't see the pecking order there. ::)

But I still think BH may be coming back with the release of CD.

Hey guys, I just came home from Italy.

Show was fucking fantastic. Everyone was in good mood. Crowd wasn't all "metalheads", don't worry. Most people were GN'R fans, I've seen literally few thousands GN'R T-shirts. Everyone was waiting for them. People were singing along to every song, and you could hardly hear Axl sing, except when he was reaching high-tones. His voice was great but he was sometimes out of breath, and his voiced should have been a little stronger IMO. But then again, he had to "compete" with thousands of people singing, so it's normal you couldn't always hear him.

Setlist was as mentioned above. A long show, with 4 new songs played. There were many solos, I can't even remember who played and when. Axl was in good mood, you could see that. He was interacting with the crowd: he made comments about big sings in the crowd. Concerning that bracelet - someone threw that on stage, and Axl put it on his hand, called the camerman to film it so we could see it (but I didn't), said thank you to that person and dedicated "Out Ta Get Me" to him. People were chanting "Guns N' Roses" and "ole - ole - ole - ole - Axl - Axl" (some Italian sport chant), but Axl didn't like it. Then he sang a bit of "The Roof Is On Fire", and Sebastian Bach came to share vocals on My Michelle and last part of Nightrain.

Overall, it was a great show, my first GN'R experience (If you don't count VR ;D). I admit I wasn't expecting so much of them, but these guys fucking rock.

I understand the point you're making here but I think having Bumblefoot play it as part of his solo and having the audience sing it is the perfect way for them to make an instant "GNR rapport" between 'the new guy' and the fans.? IMO, a very smart move.? : ok:

I honestly think C.D is the most lyrically weak song of the new batch... like "it would take a lot more time than you.. have got for masturbation".. I expect more maturity these days on the new songs.. would be better if it was ... "than you have for procrastination"... even then I still don't think the song is that strong lyrically. But, it does have a catchy intro.. and a good beat. I really don't think single material though.

Ohh, and it got good applause in NYC all 3 nights I went.

I agree that CD would not be a popular single even tho I love the song, but I think your taking the masturbation line the wrong way. He doesnt mean jerking off, he means I guess that he thinks the Chinese Government is jerking with their people, I dont know if i sound stupid, its hard to convey what I really mean. I know ax said he wrote it after he saw that movie, but I think this song, is a probably an extremely intense political song, that just uses lots of metaphors. I f im wrong i dont care, Dont flame me, its stupid when people do that.

Hey guys... I just came back in Athens. I have seen old GNR twice in the past and I have to admit that this concert has nothing to do with them. This concert was too lounge for GNR but I really had a great time. Everything was amazing. Axl gave 100% of himself and his voice was better than ever. The show didn't have much delay. It was scheduled for 22.00 and they were on stage at 22.50 - as soon as the set up was ready. The set list was:

Welcome to the jungle
It s so easy
Mr Brownstone
Live and Let Die
Robin Solo
Sweet Child of Mine
Better
Dizzy Reed Solo
Blues
You could be mine
Knockin on heaven's door
Bumblefoot solo - Don't cry (the crowd sang the whole song)
Rocket Queen
November Rain
Richard Fortus solo
Robin and Bumblefoot - U r beautiful (many people were singing this)
Out ta get me
Madagascar
My Michelle,
Patience
Robin Solo
Nightrain
IRS
Paradise city

The show ended at 01.15 - two hours and 25 minutes long!!!!

Sebastian Bach was on stage for My Michele and Nightrain and both Axl and SB seemed to have fun - AXL during the most songs used to talk to the crowd
There was a flag with Axl is God written on it and when Axl saw that said that he is not god, and if he was the 3/4 of the crowd would be girls and the rest would be pizza - I guess this was funny
Someone throw a bracelet that was saying "Fuck me" on the stage and Axl dedicated to him the out ta get me
Robin walked down to the crowd during My Michele and Bumblefoot during Paradise city

I liked the new version of Knocking on heavens door and the new songs as well (but I was surprised to see that only few people knew their lyrics)

Here are some pics - Hope you like them.

now I have to go and rest myself for a while...

I'm still too much moved...I will never forget last Sunday night..so..I'm sorry for my bad english.. :P
Well,I arrived to Milan on Saturday morning and it was a very good day,I saw stratovarius, helloween, motorhead and especially great performance of def leppard and whitesnake (David Coverdale..what a legend..!!).
Just 2 hours of sleep and Sunday morning I was again there to wait for the opening of the gates.. I took the wristband and I spent the rest of the day to meet some friends, sleep on the grass and eat ice-cream..I was very nervous.. ::)
And..when the Korn show finished...what a moment..interminable minutes....and..when started WTTJ intro...the Axl's scream..oh my god..my heart was fired!!Great show!!!Axl was perfect,incredible voice,great look,was happy,he has danced ?
and he has run everywhere..and I liked very much the band..high intensity and a lot of passion....great show,incredible...I don't find the right words...I'm still excited...
Song list was very good..I'm very happy and surprised to listen a very "hungry" version of IRS!!And also..the special guest Sebastian Bach!!Some special moments:KOHD,SCOM,Nightrain,November rain,Rocket Queen,My Michelle,Out ta get me...Madagascar..but really I can't choose..I loved all!!Probably I'm not objective...I waited so much this moment...It was all so great!!Thanks Guns n' Roses!!Thanks Axl!!It was one of the most exciting moments of all my life..and now..Paris!!? ?
Later I'll try to post some pic...

ok... let's do that clear. Richard was doing his solo and then Robin and Ron started playing the u r beatiful...
I don't know if Richard played the whole song but I could see him playing at the beggining.
Maybe he didn t finish it or he may went somewhere on the stage that I couldn t see him anymore...

My brain remembers another thing: Axl introduced Bumblefoot as "the new kid on the cock... errr... block" (intentionally).

And he introduced Fortus as "someone who will move to California", or something like that...

Also, if someone has bootleg of this show, or any previous acts (Alice In Chains and KoRn particulary),
please put the link here or pm me.  :)
I must have it, I'll kill to have it if I have to!

I've come to feel that Tommy Stinson is really the #2 guy behind Axl. He's easily the most independently famous member in the band (Dizzy's fame comes from being a minor role player in the old GN'R, and the live NIN players (Robin) never got much notoreity)- and we know he's stood up to Axl already and lived to tell the story (showing me that Axl values greatly what Tommy brings to the band and that he wields a certain level of power and influence that I can't imagine that the other players have)

I still think Robin is the soul of this band, musically anyway. Better is a prime example of it. He would be the biggest loss to this band if he ever left. Brian May said he was brought in (after Robin quit) because Axl was so emotionally attached to Robins work and couldn't listen to it.

And Robin left in '99. He was called back - despite the bitter comments he gave to the press while touring with NIN. He stood up for Axl after MSG '02. He's still in the band. Not taking anything away from Tommy, but he's not the only one in the band who dares to call a spade a spade in front of Axl.

Very true. Robin deserves his due as well. I think of him as kind of the "Izzy Stradlin'" of the new GN'R. A very important song-writer and influence on the band's "vibe" in general- while live chops not necessarily being his strong suit... kind of like Izzy back in the day.

Anyway, it will be easier to nail down a "pecking order" with this band after they actually release the album and make some videos, etc. I'm pretty sure that up until they made it big, Izzy Stradlin' was clearly the #2 man behind Axl, and Slash was just a VERY young hotshot lead guitarist... but not necessarily a band "leader". All that changed once Appetite for Destruction went huge and their videos were all over MTV. Slash became an international star virtually just as famous as Axl , and Izzy was relegated to a role well behind Slash and Duff. The same thing could happen here... maybe Bumblefoot (my best guess) or someone will become an international star overnight eclipsing everyone in the band except for Axl... at which point we'll definitely know who the #2 is.

Anyway, sounds like a great show in Milan. Good setlist and some great photos coming in. :peace:

They sold unofficial T-shirts, flags and wristbands outside the venue for 10 Euro.

There was offical merchandising in the venue. But there were only 3 types of T-shirts,
not all of them. Price was 30 Euro. (greedy bastards!)
Also, you had official festival t-shirts for 20 Euro.
