Post by: evergreen_layne on July 20, 2006, 09:07:10 PM
Just wanted to get this thread going.  Now that all the info has come out about Ron's Dad, hopefully he's had time to deal with it and he's ready to rock again.  I have a feeling we're gonna see the new songs pop up again at this show.  Perfect timing as its sold out!

Can't wait. Scottish crowds are always the best! Let's see how well GNR's first ever scottish date goes.

Let's see how well GNR's first ever scottish date goes.

That's a funny notion, after all those times Axl wore a kilt.

Let's hope he doesn't decide to rehash some memories!  :nervous:

ROCK N FUCKING ROLL!!!!!

The day is here, fuck work, I have more pressing business to attend to.

Gonna head into Glasgow, gonna find me a new Badass GN'R shirt.

All my others have been worn to permenant wilting point.

Fingers crossed that the one I ordered online will make for the show but :crying:, unlikely.

I'm aiming to arrive there for 8pm and then endure the 2+ hour wait. I will be taking my camera with me and hopefully SECC security are as relaxed as usual.

The further north you go, the better the crowds get.

T In The Park is always regarded as one of the best festivals.

This should be one of the loudest and liveliest dates on the tour  : ok:

Can't believe today is the day! Get into Gunners shape the last few days, listening through the songs to get in the mood!
Gonna be off the page, think this will be the latestshow I've ever seen at the SECC thats for sure. Hopeful of hearing the new material (esp I.R.S) and Rocket Queen!

Woo!!

it feels mental the the day is eventually here ?: ok: pity ,have to drive but whatever
my tickets say
doors 6pm so i'd expect
TOL on about 6.30-7.30,
BFMV say 8.30-9.30 and
Guns on at about 10.15,

remember the place has a curfew of about 11.30 (i think) ?

Few pointers for people who havent been to the secc before,

the security is a company called Rocksteady, don't expect any niceness from them (personel experience)
Car park costs ?3-?5. Park closest to the exit as you can as when you leave it is a nightmare for people pushing in
Try and eat before you get there as the burger stalls are crap and expensive
I'm told the merchendise is on sale after the gig so that save you carrying t-shirts around during the gig
no open bottles are allowed in
no smoking is allowed in the venue
I've never had any problems with cameras but I take a disposable one incase they take it off me, thenits only ?5 lost not ?200 on a digital one

most of all have fun, its gonna be hot so stock up on fluids, raid your piggy bank and for christs sake don't throw anything at axl

can we have a few chants : ok:
I'm going through to Glasgow for around 5pm, remember this is a city so the 5pm traffic will be busy

see you there

guns and roses!!!!

I have never had any problems with Rock Steady, I have always found them to be quite decent.

Lets hope I am right.

I am so fucking excited, I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve.

Heading to Glasgow soon....sooo excited about tonight but cannot help but think there will be problems with the curfew :(? Why cannot they just come on at 9pm to save all the hassle.? I was at Hammersmith in June and the waiting around did spoil the whole GNR experience...also the ?50 cab journey (due to the Tubes closing at 12.30) back to my mates flat was a bit of a blow.? Anyway, lets hope for a good one!
? G N f*cking R?

I'm also very nervous about the curfew as the SECC are known to be very strict with it. I'll be very annoyed if we only get an hour long gig.

Before people get to far ahead of themselves, if you check CD.com the person who posted the setlist was GUESSING!

So it's not 100% confirmed Better was played, and imo I doubt it was, as you all know from the previous two nights Axl has dropped all new sogns apart from the blues.

Indeed, Rocket Queen has not been played much, it's a pity because it's such a great song. If at least they played more new songs to replace it, but they don't :(

Rocket Queen was played at the Newcastle soundcheck and was meant to be played during the encore but with the events that followed it didnt get played, so theres a good chance they might have played it tonight

oslo day 1 had a massive setlist! i don't think any show had a setlist like that... every song was there, and even a drum solo!

Feckin awesome show  : ok: Just home. Best I've ever been to and I managed to get to the front for the second half of the show. I'm exhausted but still amazingly hyped. Axl and the band were in excellent form tonight.

No Rocket Queen :( The setlist was great though so I can't complain. We got Used To Love Her  : ok:

BFMV were terrible, I'm they only played one song but for 45 minutes.

The crowd were excellent and were jumping about like crazy for most of the concert. When the area I was in stopped jumping after 1 hour 45 minutes I moved to the front instead :) Everyone was talking about how awesome it was when we were leaving so all is good :)

Back from the concert, that band just rocked the place apart...the crowd were excellent, very rowdy...unbelievable experience for my first GNR concert

i was about 6 in from the front initially, but when GNR came on the crowd just rushed forward, everyone was crushed like sardines and were swaying back and forth seemingly with absolutely no control at all, i could swear i was at a 33 degree angle at one point...after the second song axl told everyone to move forward making a funny remark about how he is supposed to look after his fans...i got an hard elbow in the ribs and was still getting crushed so decided to move back a bit...they didnt play my michelle...at one point during the intro to November Rain some people were getting impatient, obviously Axls heard someone and made a comment about having to catch the bus and told them to fuck off, as far as i can remember...at one point axl was wearing the scottish flag around his neck...the band really did look like they were enjoying themselves...and i tell you this, izzy was fucking awesome...i have 3 minutes video of used to love her (pretty good quality) and half of think about you...

Evolution...i think i might have saw you, were you near the front and centre?

identical setlist to sheffield except better was back in instead of the the stones cover and madagascar was the first encore i must admit i was getting annoyed at the delay  (bullet finished at half eight gnr came on at 10.05 whats that all about) the crowd were booing for a good ten mins before they eventually came on but our frustations were quickly  erased when axl burst into welcome to the jungle - i watched rir3 and his voice was perfect tonight in comparision in fact the whole band played like there lives depended on it when izzy came on he looked laid back in comparision to the rest but then i realised he was just enjoying his moment and the crowd when nuts for him. dare i say it all it needed for a perfect night was mr saul hudson to walk on and we could have died happy -maybe one day. :smoking:

ps how good is that electric version of used to love her  please somebody upload it soon

Evolution...i think i might have saw you, were you near the front and centre?

I was at the start. Moved back because of the rough crowd. I had on a 2006 yellow GNR shirt with tourdates on the back and dark jeans?

Right, setlist as best as I can remember went like.

WTTJ, ISE, Brownstone, LALD, Better, Robin Solo, SCOM, KOHD, Dizzy Solo, The Blues, YCBM, Richard Solo into Beautiful, OTGM, Ron Solo(Don't Cry), Blues Jam, Nov Rain, Think About You, Used To Love Her, Patience and Nightrain all with Izzy.

Madagascar, Robin Solo and PC as an encore. Plus Ron had a solo in there before Izzy appeared.

Arrived at the SECC at around 6:30pm. Queue was quite large so Towers Of London started before I got inside. They ended with a punk cover of Freebird  :P As for BFMV, not my cup of tea.

The wait between BFMV and Guns was really hard. We are talking around 8:20 to 10:05 in boiling heat.

The orchestra music sounds so ominous in person, I love it. As Q mentioned crowd was mental in the pit so I moved back.

Random obvervations and highlights.

Ron had like a few mini braids in his hair which seemed to disappear.

Axl introduced Robin as "for our Scottish listening pleasure".

Axl attempted a Scots accent saying something like "Och aye goddamnit".

Izzy is like guitar god incarnate up there. One word I would use to describe seeing him there is respect. He just looks like someone you would never give cheek too. He was actually dancing a fair bit! Smiling like crazy, interacting with Robin and singing into Axl's mic.

Something cool to notice, during SCOM i think it was, Ron was doing a solo over by the left and Axl walked by and tapped him on the shoulder as he passed which made Ron smile and nod  : ok:

KOHD was a super long version and Nightrain blew the crowd away.

Ferrer is doing an excellent job up there, his intro to YCBM had a certain dancey tinge to it, and he was mucking around with Pittman a little, throwing fake punches.

Crowd didn't really recognize the leaks, I of course sang word for word! Tommy noticed I was the only guy singing in an area of the crowd and gave me a wink.

Crowd accepted GNR wholeheartedly, I heard many folk say how it was better than expected and how they thought Finck did a stand up job. We even clapped along to the jams! Glasgow fucking loved GNR.

Richard's solo went down very well where I was as did Ron's Don't Cry.

Axl told some guy to "go home, fuckhead. No-one is stopping you, you could catch a bus or something".

He also said "This band isn't McDonalds, and it isn't Burger King. This isn't have it your way".

Had my favourite gigging experience so far. Hearing the outro solo to PC, confetti flying everywhere whilst jumping up and down.

Right, well I've damn near written an essay! Enjoy the remainder of GNR's European tour all you folk attending  : ok:

My math teacher always says that, but it got annoying, haha.  I guess if Axl said it i'd probably so full of energy at the concert i wouldn't care.

It's nice to see the band interacting with eachother and stuff, its really cool.  The 2002 vids i've seen they never acted like that.

I got in line at 3.50pm so I was at the front.

Towers were decent but the Free Bird cover was dreadful. BFMV were utter garbage too. I mean they have to be one of the worst bands Ive ever seen. There lead guitarist did the same guitar licks, unison bends, in every song. I mean come on!

Gnr came on at 10 like I expected. Overall it sounded ok.. i mean the SECC is famous for not being a great sounding venue. Compared to London which was 10/10, glasgow sound wise had to be only 6 or something.  It jus all sounds a bit to incoherrent at SECC!

The crowd were awesome, every rock band IVe seen in Glasgow has said us Scottish are mental. It was seriously rowdy!!

Ron had braids for the first 3 songs or so then next think i noticed they were gone!

Axl made some cool rants n remarks to us!

I can kinda understand some people getting tired of all the guitar solos n stuff.. i mean i understand the reasoning behind it but gnr have so many hits id rather be listening to the songs that didnt make the setlist!

Overall awesome gig but it didnt come close to London. London was just something else...

Last night's gig was amazing, probably the best I've ever seen ever. Definitely better than Dublin (which in itself was a terrific show!)
The setlist was surprising considering what I'd seen in the set in Sheffield and Newcastle, with Better and Maddy returning, esp Better, great performance!
Playing the big rock guns early on (WTTJ, Easy, SCOM, YCBM) got the crowd going fucking crazy, and the front area where I managed to get up to was a sweat pit and a half!
Seeing Izzy was great, he seemed to be having a great time, playing 5 tunes with the band.
The solos, esp Dizzy was well recieved with the Civil War tune, and Bumblefoots Don't Cry was brilliant also, got the crowd singing along! Couple of idiots during Robin + Richards solo shouting for Slash but they were in the minority.
The new guys were well appreciated by the crowd!

One main comment from Axl was when in the piano intro to NR he told someone to 'Go The Fuck Home', cant remember maybe cos of some Slash chant or something, but he took it in his stride. Also similar to Dublin (where he got an Irish flag) he tied a Scotland flag round himself during a song!

Can't wait for CD to come out and see them touring back here hopefully next year!

Raving Reporter Olorins Rocking Report :headbanger:

What an unbelievable night!! This was a performance for the ages, they really were loving every minute of it. I was right down the front rocking like a man possessed for the whole show, and so was everyone else near me.

It was a pressure cooker down at the front, it was so intense, everyone was going bezerk and there is no doubt that the band were amazed at what they were seeing unfold in front of them.
I am surprised that folk have been saying the crowd could have been better because where I was we were all going proper nuts.
Occasionally I would look around behind to see what was going on, and I suppose the people at the back were not quite as mad as the people at the front.
But generally I was oblivious to this as from where I was, it was a bruising, frantic and at times scary audience performance. The searing heat may have affected the crowds energy levels, it was intense at the front.
The temperature was off the chart, I have never been so boiling hot in my life, my new GN?R tour shirt didn?t stay on long, it was whipped off to become a makeshift towel for the night. (and a flag and a scarf)
It was actually perilously hot down there, thank god I have been going to the gym for a few years, it was such a test of endurance to rock non-stop in those conditions. I could have calmed down a bit but loud GN?R makes me go wild at the best of times, never mind, GN?R live, loud, and on fucking fire 10 feet away from me.

Anyway here is my tale of chaos:

Drove down to my friend?s house on the afternoon, GN?R blasting out the stereo all the way.
He was sitting out on his balcony half way through a bottle of wine and was treating his neighbors to UYI2 at full volume.
I had a bottle of whisky with me and was soon out on his balcony having a few drams and smoking a few joints alongside him.
We kind of lost track of time, too busy singing our hearts out, and forgot the trains were 1 every hour. It was now 7.30pm and the train came in at 7.45pm, so we had to high-tale down to the train station pronto.
So? him with another bottle of wine and me with my bottle of whisky and both of us with spliffs hanging out of our mouths were soon charging through the streets desperately trying to get to the train station in time.
By some miracle we made it and settled down for an hour-long train journey, thank god we remembered the booze.
Fairly uneventful journey, just drinking our supplies and sneaking off to the toilet for a crafty smoke, we were very merry. I was a little worried as we wouldn?t get to the concert till roughly 9pm, I was getting paranoid thoughts like ?Fuck, what if they decide to come on early??
I wanted to get down to the front, and I didn?t want to miss the opening riffs of Welcome to the Jungle.
My cohort wasn?t worried at all, he was in his own little world, asking anyone who got on the train if they were going to see GN?R ? but by the time he had finished his wine, he was asking really elderly folk, like 70, 80 year olds if they were going, one old lady got on beside us with a Zimmer frame, and he is swaying in his seat eyes unfocused going ?Waheeey, you goin to see the guns and the roses then eh??
They were all just laughing and saying things like ?not tonight son, a wee bit loud for my taste.? It was all good really.

Made it to the venue for just before 9pm, got myself a GN?R 2006 tour shirt, binned the old one I was wearing, hooked up with some other friends and we made our way through the crowd to try and get a good position.
There was rumors flying around all over the place:

?Axls not here?
Axls in the building?
?They are going to come on at 9.15 and play a super long show?
?They are not coming on till half 10 and are only playing for an hour?

Basically from I could ascertain from all this was; no buggar knew what the hell was going to happen and I might just have time to go and take a piss before they came on. Good call, as had plenty of time.
Never seen anything of the support bands, they were all packed up before I got there and never heard anyone speaking about them so they must have been very memorable.
On my way back down to the front I spent some time chatting with others fans, I was drunk, damn well excited and so fucking pumped up I was bouncing around and psyching myself up to a frenzy, people were shaking my hand, other were bouncing up to me singing GN?R tunes, and I shit you not, people kept coming up to me and asking me if I had any drugs left over and could sell them any, they wanted pills off me ? They thought I was mad with the ecstacy or coke!!!

I managed somehow to get back down to my friends at the front, but it was getting pretty cramped, it was now after half 9 and people were getting restless ? from what I had gathered the last band had finished at half 8.
There was music coming out of the PA system, but it wasn?t very loud ? I picked out AC/DC but generally I couldn?t tell what was on.
One thing I do remember was I thought I heard a burst of the song ?checkmate?, that the clip is floating around online, hopefully someone else heard it.

Everytime a song ended there would be cheers, then another song would start and there would be a chorus of boos and whistles and Anti Axl shouts.
There was one really obnoxious little fucker beside me shouting all this ?Axl you?re a prick? crap, constantly. I said, ?why are you bothering? You can see as well as me that nobody is up there, Axl cant hear you.?
He was like, ? so he is still a prick though isn?t he??
Yeah, whatever mate.
I had one eye on him for a while and was thinking ?this wee prick looks likely to throw something at Axl?, and I swear if he did I would have gave him a proper doing, my friends were thinking the same thing, but thankfully it never came to that.

There was one fight actually. As it got closer to 10pm, people were really crammed in down the front and it must have been impossible for anyone to get through.
Didn?t stop one arrogant wanker barging his way through though, it was behind me it happened, I was looking backwards up at the folk in the stands. This guy burst through pissing off everyone on the way, people started throwing punches at him, he didn?t know what to do.
What he did do was square up to a girl who was telling him to fuck off, and started to rough her up, her boyfriend and a few bystanders launched themselves at him. Nobody could really get any decent blows landed on him, but he still ended up flat on the ground only to be roughly picked up and swiftly and aggressively passed back out through the people he barged through on the way down in the first place.
Mob justice.

Post by: Olorin on July 22, 2006, 12:01:12 PM
At just after 10pm the lights went off and the place erupted.
I was suddenly a little concerned by the heat and aware of the fact that I had drunk nothing but whisky for hours.
Welcome to the jungle ripped out and forgot my fear and was swept up in the roar of euphoria and thunderous chords of Jungle, the moment I had been waiting 20 years for, since I first put in my big brothers Appetite For Destruction cassette into my little hifi, when I was all of 7 years old.
It was just insane!! Magical! It was hard to keep your feet in the crowd because we were swaying all over the place and jumping up and down as one.
I?m a big guy so I?m better suited to it than others, must be really scary for smaller folk, especially kids, of which there was a few!
Its So Easy came crashing out the second Jungle finished and we just tore the roof off the place and continued our frenzy. Ron looked a little concerned at one point.
After its so easy, Axl asked for some lights and asked us to calm down because people were passing out, being hurt and getting carried out.
He asked everyone to take a few steps back, to try and ease the pressure at the front, and to my relief, everyone did so with no fuss whatsoever.
Mr Brownstone then blasted out and it was good to have a slightly slower song on, so I could catch my breath. Still rocked, just not as hard.
Live and Let Die came on and I went fucking nuts again, so did everyone else and it was damn sweet.
I think Better came on next and I just flipped, its not even my favorite song but the fact that Scotland was getting a far superior performance from the band compared to what I had read about the previous 2 uk shows, there was no doubt ? this band was firing on full cylinders and genuinely seemed to be having a ball. Ron looked extremely happy and energized. He had his hair in kind of braids or something, he was wearing a white vest which was soaked with sweat halfway through jungle.
Ron?s skin colour looked so pasty white he could have passed for a Scotsman!
Axl was just out of this world, truly mesmerizing. I really mean that, I barely glanced at the big screens behind the stage, I kept forgetting they were there, I could not take my eyes off of Axl. He was spellbinding, his energy levels were through the roof, vocals were searing and perfect and he was in a fantastic mood, infact he barely left the stage.
He pretended to put on a bra that was thrown on stage, and said something about being able to eat his breakfast cereal out of the cups.
He heard someone making a snidey remark, and basically said ?Why don?t you fuck off then? Nobody is stopping you, you can go out and catch a bus.?
There was lots of comments about Whisky, which I particularly enjoyed.
There was also a few things thrown at the stage, something that looked like a parcel which placed at the back of the stage.
Some idiot took it upon themselves to throw a miniature whisky bottle at the stage, which Axl only remarked ?Oh wow, miniatures, thank you?

He talked about Sweden, cant really remember what he said though.

He had a Scottish flag wrapped around him at one point also, and Beta was at the side of the stage much of the night, she really looked happy and into it. There was really such a feel good vibe coming from the band, it must have been that famous Scottish Hospitality.
Axl also said some thing like, "This band isn't McDonalds, and it isn't Burger King. This isn't have it your way". He was smiling though.

I better wrap up actually, this has become a bit of a monster of a report.

Izzy came on and had a blast, he looked like he had never been happier.
We got used to love her, which was awesome.
A stunning Patience with the crowd making they?re own percussion, stomping and clapping in time and singing, it was magical ? Frank loved it, and Big Frank kicked ass all night, he was great!!

I thought the jams were really cool, and yet another chance for me to catch my breath and rest. I had so much water pouring off me I could not have been any wetter if I was in the shower.
Rons solo was good, don?t cry was fun, I held my phone up for my friend at home who loves that song.
Ron was great all night.
Richard was great all night too(he is tiny!) but I don?t even really remember his solo much. That thing he does with Robin, the Christina song, I don?t know the song in question but I don?t think they played it very well last night, cause it sounded crap.
Robin was good when playing the songs but his solos were excruciatingly bad. They were awful. It was painful on the ears and I really don?t know what they were supposed to sound like. It was embarrassing.
I never really noticed tommy much; I was more over to the left side of the stage. I couldn?t help but notice he had a bra on his head at one point.
Dizzy was busy all night, cant believe the weight he has lost ? its like looking at a different person from the Illusion videos.
Chris was there looking busy as well, he got a good cheer when he was introduced.

Nightrain was the fucking shit!!! Amazing!! It was a non stop rock out from the people at the front, I didn?t give a fuck about heat or exhaustion by this point, I knew the show was almost over, so I just went for it.
The encore.
I seen Dizzy taking his place first and I was like pleeeeeeeeeaaase Madagascar, and low and behold the organ kicked in. I nearly fucking jumped out of my shoes!! It was amazing to hear it live, so powerful, so good to wave your hands to.
I really miss bucketheads lead guitar in the middle though, its just not the same anymore.
Paradise City ended the evenings festivities, and it was a storming rendition, everyone going bezerk and the band just feeding off it.
The show ended in a deafening roar of approval as the band took their bows, they all looked like they had had the best night ever and Axl thanked us and wished us all a safe journey home and good night! And then it was over.

The greatest musical experience of my life, thank you Guns N? Roses.

When we were walking out I was feeling really woozy from the heat and fluid loss, I was ok at first but as we were waiting to get out the hall, I was feeling really woozy, my friend was practically holding me up. I was so hot and so thirsty I cant describe it.
I asked a member of staff where I could go to get some water, and she was like ?oh the toilets are down there? and walked away.
So I found the toilets but the fuckers were locked up!!!
I was ready to kick in the door, when my friend took me outside saying there was foodstalls out there and he would go and get some bottled water.
I waited on him and noticed that my trousers were just completely drenched and I had puddles of sweat in my pockets.
My friend returned and had a couple of cans of fizzy juice for us each, saying they don?t have any water there either and they wont sell me more than 4 cans of juice!!
Bastards!!
Thank you SECC.
I drank the 2 cans of juice and felt a little better so we got in the car of the person who was taking us home, spent about and hour trying to get out of the car park.
We went to a 24 hour garage and got some bottles of water which was like liquid life, so good. But on the journey home I started shaking and feeling really cold, damn cold. By the time I got to the flat I was shivering uncontrollably and was freezing cold.
They ended up wrapping me up in loads of layers of blankets and feeding me hot drinks for an hour or so until I managed to heat up again and stay warm.
It was so surreal, boiling hot one minute, freezing the next.
After a couple of hours I felt completely normal again and crawled into bed, marking the end of the Best Friday Night Out in Glasgow Ever!!

Wow.
 :D

What a beast of a report! I like hearing about before the gig in reviews too  : ok:

Axl said something alone the lines of he got drug tested in Sweden because they can do that if they "have a tip". And their tip was some girl who was "hanging out with a rockstar"?

He then grabbed his balls and said he had another tip for her  :hihi:

The bra and cereal bowls thing also reminded me he kept saying "mmmm Scottish milk!"

I'm not sure, its a bit hazy

I forgot to say I loved the blues last night, it is a special song for me. I listened to it all the time when my best freind committed suicide back in 2002 - the lyrics said everything i was feeling at that time.
Last night hearing Axl singing it live had me filling up with tears of emotion, it was a powerful and personal moment amongst all the madness.

I also had a few tears in my eyes when they were taking their bows and when axl was saying goodbye.

But that might have been partly due to the onset of heat exaustion. :)

Yeah that was it.

I also forgot about the cup of water or beer or something that got launched at the stage.
It landed beside Axl, I held my breath for a few moments - not the only person I'm sure.
A roadie came running out with a couple of towels and him and Axl together mopped it up!!!
Axl was still singing and never skipped a beat

Axl was incredible all night, he was truly awsome and in great spirits.

AXL GOES IN WITH ALL GUNS BLAZING Daily Record 22nd july 2006

Guns N' Roses rocked Glasgow last night at a sell-out show the fans had waited more than a decade for.
Axl Rose is the only surviving member of the original line-up but that didnt deter the thousands who packed into the city's SECC for the bands only Scottish gig.
They kicked of the show in style with a stunning rendition of Welcome to the Jungle, accompanied by a massive pyrotechnic display. They followed it with Mr Brownstone, from debut album, Appetite for Destruction.
Their cover of Paul McCartney's Live and Let Die shook the entire arena as the band worked through a selection of greatest hits and tracks from new album, Chinese Democracy.
Rose showed no signs of wear or tear as he turned back the clock to provide a stand-out frontman performance.
And he returned the warm welcome he recieved, telling the crowd:
"Thank you so much for coming out tonight -you're the best, totally insane. And I should know because I'm Scottish too."

Robin was good when playing the songs but his solos were excruciatingly bad. They were awful. It was painful on the ears and I really don?t know what they were supposed to sound like. It was embarrassing.

OK,  here are my two cents, although evrything has been said already!! Taken a while because I've been sleeping off my hangover!!

Anyways, me and my friends arrived at the SECC at around about 8pm, having been drinking most of the day, My head told me that we'd be in for a long wait, but after seein GN'R go on on time at Download, I wanted to make sure I was there in time!! We arrived for the last couple of songs from Bullet, they seemed OK, not really my cup of tea, and judging by their reaction, not a lot of peoples cup of tea!! Bullet finished at 8.15 and they cleared the stage for GN'R. Rock songs were played over the PA, AC/DC and the like, and the arena filled up nicely, there was a HUGE sense of anticipation in the arena that is hard to describe, a sense of excitement at seeing Axl play Scotland for the first time, it really was a very special atmosphere in there. So two hours came and went, after every song finished there would be huge cheers...........only for another to start and be greeted with huge boos! haha  But then at 10.05 the house lights went down, the intro tape played..............

AND WOW! Jungle kicked in and the place went FUCKING NUTS! I went down the front but I just couldn't handle it, and I'm 6ft 3!! The front of the arena was goin ballistic, you couldn't hear a word Axl said because everyone was singing so loud! It was just so fucking cool! Jungle, ISE, Brownstone as usual, with Axl stopping after ISE and telling everyone to take a step back, almost the same speil as before ISE on Live Era "People are getting really smashed down the front".

LALD rocked and then Better played. I'd sent Ron a myspace message on Thursday to tell him that Scotland would love to hear Better and Maddy, and to my delight we got them both, I was freaking out when Better started and I was singing at the top of my voice, only to get strange looks from everybody wondering what the hell I'd been smoking  :hihi:

The middle of the show consisted of the usuals, YCBM, The Blues, SCOM, an awesome November Rain and all the solos. One thing I noticed is that everybody was really in to the solos round about where I was, they all recieved warm appluase, as did the new songs, there was a feeling that Scotland was there to enjoy themselves and not pick holes or pine for the old band! Axl was in a great mood, laughing and joking with the crowd, at one point before Nov Rain he did say "Go home fuckhead" but I didn't hear what it was about, but even then Axl seemed to be having a laugh and a joke about it all.

Then the place went apeshit when Izzy came on, and especially so when they kicked in to Used To Love Her, a great rendition, no You Gotta Move, but I woulda preferred Used To Love Her over that anyday. The show ended with an awesome Nightrain. Before the encore I said to my friends that If they played Maddy I'd die a happy guy, and sure enough the encore started with it, and it was unbelievable, although my only critiscism would be that the samples were not loud enough. PC came and went and was played as great as usual, confetti, fireworks, Goodnight Scotland!!!

So my thoughts then.........well IMO if ever there was a gig to show to people to show them the virtues of the new band, this was it. It was awesome from start to finish, never a note missed, entertaining as fuck, and with a great appreciative crowd that gave the new guys everything they had and were there for a good time. No calls for Slash, just happiness and appreciation that what we were seeing was a band on top of their game, playing a great show for the Scottish people. A great setlist, Axl was in a fucking great mood, and It really was the best gig I've seen, better than Download I reckon and one of the best nights of my life, it's nights like these that remind you why you are such a huge GN'R fan in the first place.

Roll on November and hopefully we'll have an album in our hands!! : ok:

I just know that whenever I am drunk from now on I will be bending some poor souls ear about Friday night.

My calf muscles are aching still, and so is my neck muscles.

For me, yesterday was such a come down.

It felt like Boxing Day did when I was a kid. All the excitement of Christmas that built up over months, suddenly no more.

Weird :'(

Back from Glasgow. Great reviews from everyone Olorin, Evolution?.? ?I'd just be repeating what everyone else has said, it was the perfect show!

Got the beers in while BFMV were on, saw them in Sheffield and they've learnt to roll one song into another so they can?t hear the booing. Beer was cheap and no queues? :)

I've seen Guns 3 times before Glasgow and thought every show was awesome but Friday night was something else. Crowd was mental throughout.? I saw at least 4 other people around me sing along to Better and Madagascar.

Axl in great mood laughing and joking connecting with the crowd, Izzy loving every minute, great job from Frank, he never stopped smiling and looked like he couldn?t believe he's got this gig.

2 ? hours went so quickly, I didn?t want it to end.

After the show went round by the back door to see them leave, Security told us they were having a big piss up backstage and wouldn?t be out for hours, so found nearest bar which was packed out with fellow gunners until 3am reliving the gig.

Roll on Wembley!!!!

Some of my photos from Friday night.

well thats me just got back to reality ?:-[ or at least the reality of sitting at my desk at work ?:hihi:
Heres my take on Fridays events for anyone who cares
We arrived at the SECC about 3.45pm and drove round the back to the car parks to see if we could see any tour busses ect, we couldn't but we did see some girls at the fence at the rear of the hall
we parked and joined the Q about 4pm, got speaking to a few people, a young bloke who was on his own and a stunning girl (& her b/f) who were in front of us.
We heard the sound check about 4.15 but were stuck outside in the Q untill about 6.35 ? it was a long day but we were prepared. Doors opened and down the front we ran. Managed to get a spot right in the centre of the stage with only one person in front. ?
Towers of London came on, and they were ok, the lead singer said "bet you didn't know we were gonna be here?, neither did we untill yesterday!" they wern't so bad sort of punky but i didn't like the constant spitting on stage. then there was a break then Bullit for my valentine came on
really the crowd weren't in to it apart from a few kiddies where we were standing. the only cheers they got seemed to be when the lead singer shouted "are you ready for the mighty guns n roses?" As someone said it sounded like they played the same song for 45 mins, not my thing at all
Then we waited, and waited and waited. there were some songs playing over the PA, not very loud tho, every thime a song ended the crowd started to cheer but towards 10pm they started to get restless and boo
Then about 10.15 Guns burst onto the stage, the crowd went mental and the first 10 rows of people crushed into where the first 2 rows were. It was really unconfotable and loads of people were getting smashed against the barrier. Axl stopped for a moment and asked people to take a step back, but the crush carried on. I moved back a few rows to find my feet and then they played better ? it was awsome live
Really I knew it was gonna be a crush, I knew it was gonna be hot, but I never expected it to be so damm good
we had pyro, big gass flames and cannons full of ticker tape
Axl wore a Scottish flag round his shoulders for a bit, and there was a comment about eating his breakfast "wheeties" out of a bra some girl had thrown on stage ( it was really big!)
they played for what seemed like ages all the hits as expected and we got a few new songs
no one really threw anything on stage or at the band, and they all seemed to be having a great time, smiling and playing back to back.
All in all an awsome gig ?: ok: : ok: I am still totally stunned about what I experienced, I don't think I'll ever experience another gig as good as that. I hope they come back sometime soon

I noticed a women with a white top and white hair sitting at the side of the stage, was that Beta?

It would have been good to have the dude at the start of the live era CD shouting "YOU WANTED THE BEST.............."

Izzy was on stage for a lot of the show, he was awsome too, looked to be enjoying himself

Don't think there were any downers on the show at all, everything was perfect

Thanks to Axl and the band for actually taking the time to come to Scotland
a BIG HEY! to the stunning lass we were talking to in the Q (lycra bottoms AFD t-shirt), hope you got out ok?
Hey to the young boy we spoke to who was on his own
Hey to the goth chick who I was heavily sweating on just before GnR came on (sorry)
and a big fuck you to the little rat boy who was in front of us with his goofy teenage mates, yes that is you with the plastic lemon (WTF) and the red bandana thing you threw on stage, who got taken out by security after BFMV. Your presense repulsed me and you were going to get a size 12 to the face

all you lucky people enjoy London as it will be superb! wish I was going but Glasgow has cleaned me out

it was beta at the side of the stage, axl came out of the stage after a wardrobe change and ran back in to change again, maybe he didn't like it?, and beta ran after him and they walked back talking..

this is the first chance i've had to write some of the things that happned at the gig...

there was some booing after the band was 45-50 mins late, people should kow that they won't come on till 10 at least so.... :-\

when they came on though...wow, it was a juggernaut of energy, the crowd went fucking nuts, as i knew they would as all bands comment on how crazy scots gigs are, i cant explain really the place just went wild.

i wont go in to set lists as people know them by now so i'll just comment on the new songs and peoles thoughts on them

better- this is my fave new song, but i thin the sound was a bit off in the guitars so it didnt really haver the drive that the studio version has, but i still enjoyed it as did many others around me

blues- absoulutely perfect, axl on top of the piano at the end, amazing. but folks seemed a bit puzzled,m though it was recieved well.

madagascar- best version i've evr heard, the sound was so amazing, people seemed to be into this one also, but i was the only person singing i could see.

i've seen gnr twice on this tour now, once at hammersmith as well, so i feel i can judge the guitarists and how well their solos go down.

richard-- i think richard, is the best guitarist in gnr, he's fuckin amazing, and duelly got the best reception for his solo.

robin-- robin played his solos for the songs well, but i don't think he should have a solo spot, he's just not that type of guitar player, and i think he suffered a little for that

ron-- ron played his solo spot excellently, don't cry with the crowd singing all the words to the entire song! when he was shredding though i think his guitar had a little to much juice if you know what i mean.

rants of note-

axl mentioned the sweden thing, he said something along the lines of the woman he was with was given a drug test because she was "hanging out with a rock star"

everyone knows about the highlander milk joke

someone shouted before NR " i got train to catch" axl stopped and said, "then go home, im not stopping you and you don't need to be here" he wasnt shouting or anything he just calmly told the person to piss off more or less.

after the next song axl said, " lets get a few things straight, this is not mcdonalds, this is not burger king. this is not "how you want it, so fuck the extra pickles, the onions and the mayonaise", to whcih tommy looked a little surprised and just pissed himself laughing and frank started applauding! :hihi:

that was axls only real rant. apart from that i would say, the band had a fucking great time, axl looked to be in a fantastic mood, the sound for the notoriously bad secc was nothing short of incredible, this band is as tight as fuck.

this was the best gig i ever been to, including gnr at hammersmith a few weeks ago, the crowd their were so stuffy and i didn't think any energy came from them, different story in scotland folks, gnr played great and the crowd went fuckin mental! : ok:

cheers
dave

I thought the sound quality at the gig was good, far better than some bands I've seen there. I could hear Axl and the band clearly, better than I could at Hammersmith (Axl).

good to hear - i've seen some good bands at secc been really let down by the sound.  GnR at hammersmith in my book was quite good sound - different story last time I saw VR there, couldnt really hear scott and was deafened in one ear by slash for 3 days - it fkn hurt!

Well said, the new songs sounded better (sorry!) than when I heard them in Dublin, maybe cos of the venue, my closeness to the front, I dunno. Also, a few folk around me knew these new songs a bit. Loved Better, singing and dancing along like a maniac slightly.
The Blues is genius, when Axl went on top of the piano (don't recall him doing it in Dublin, feel free to correct me) it gave the song a great vitality to which the crowd reacted to. Maddy was good, not my fav song from the new ones. Selfishly would have loved to have heard CD, IRS ahead of it, but hey it was an extra song for the encore!
The opening 6 numbers to the show were perfect, total rocking songs to get the crowd going nuts. One of my mates was in the diasbled section at the back and he said the whole place went nuts.
Truly the best gig I've seen in my shortish gigging life, beating Queen + PR, Maiden, VR, Green Day.
Bring on CD!

The first VR gig I watched at the SECC in the small hall had terrible sound but the last one in the main hall was perfect where I was positioned.

ive seen a dozen bands at the SECC, this was easily the best sound ive heard from the big red shed...

Glad folk enjoyed my report, I loved reading about everyone else's experience too, glad I'm not the only nutter

There is some sweet pics in this thread, great memories, great night.

I sent Richard a tongue in cheek email, thanking them for a great show and apologising for everyone not going completely fucking mental for the whole 2 and a half hours ;)

I said, if you thought Friday was good, come back when its a little cooler and we will give you's a performance that will singe your fucking eyebrows off. :headbanger:

Friday night was a high that I feel like I'm addicted to, I have being reliving the Welcome to the Jungle/Its So Easy experience all day at work, getting goosebumps and butterflys in my stomach.

I am seriously thinking of getting a ticket for the last London gig off Ebay, and hopping on a plane with another bottle of whisky and doing it all over again

When do you think they will be back with the album out? I'd say March next year at the very earliest.

If the album does indeed come out this year then hopefully they'll be back in the UK next summer.

As much as I try to remember them playing Patience i can't, it's as if someone removed that part of the concert from my memory ;D The worrying thing is that I was sober.

Well the scottish clip is on page 2.

He say's this after "its so easy" - when the crowd was going banana's and he was asking for calm.

This wasn't when he wore the flag, not really sure when that was to be honest, but he never had it on for that long and I wouldnt be suprised if a picture never surfaces.

Pretty sure he definitely had it on during those crazy early songs, but can't be positively sure tbh. Maybe YCBM?
There will be a pic somewhere surely. When I see what my mates have photos off, hopefully I'll be able to get that pic!

Unfortunately, I had too much 'Nightrain' (well beer) before hand and was only good for singing and going mental for the gig!

I wasnt in any state for pictures at all, but I do remember thinking that he put the flag on and took it off really quickly.

It was probably soaking with sweat if it came from the crowd. :hihi:

Another review, this time from The Scotsman.

http://living.scotsman.com/index.cfm?id=1071232006

Pretty average review tarnished by some digs at Axl.

Crap review from a journalist who is obviously not a huge fan of gnr. He's not very uptodate about the drummer situation either.

meh, whenever they mention the actual music they can't fault it. anything outside that just sounds like charlie brown's teacher to me.
