Thought id get my account with htgth started with the thread for the first uk tour date in my home town of sheffield!!!!!!!!

I have posted on mygnr for the last couple of years but have decided its time for a change!

Hope everybody enjoys Sheffield, its 32 degrees here today, great beer garden weather!!!

The noose and gibbet pub opposite the arena is a great place to have a few beers before the concert, hope to see an army of gnr fans there later this afternoon!!!!

Ill be happy to text someone updates if they want to pm me with a number, preferably an english member as txt get expensive for m worldwide!

What time does the show starts?

8:30pm.


Axl should NOT be late for any of these concerts for one main reason, there is a heat wave in the UK at the moment and this week is one of the hottest weeks of the year, and if he's on hour (or over) late then that will really be unfair on fans and a pretty shitty thing to do because in those arena's peoples health might be a concern.


So yes 8:30 is the official kick off time till 11:00pm, but lets so how it goes.

They've played spain and portugal, where the heat actually gets to 40? and higher, i think the UK fans can survive the heat wave without having health problems...

UK people arn't used to that sort of heat, especially in a magnified heat box like an arena.

I thought that was funny too Meanbone..in parts of Georgia right now it is 100 degrees. I was in Phoenix Arizona a few weeks ago and it was 110 degrees. They will be fine. My 7 year old daughter is at soccer camp from 9am to 4 pm everyday and it is blazing hot and humid. ?: ok:

No, this is the first proper arena/indoor venue tour Guns have done in the UK since the AFD days.

All the UYI shows were in outdoor venues, and the only 2 indoor shows they have done since then have been one-off shows by the new band in London (London Arena in 2002 and Hammersmith last month).

But it is hot, we are currently set for the hottest July on record, and in some places today it was so hot, roads started to melt.

I will be watching with interest to see what time they actually hit the stage, so I dont get too fucking drunk early on and pace myself just right, this Friday night.

ya and if they change the setlist any bit. not too much just play more illusions or something. just reading the setlists from the shows in europe.Needs a freshen up.

All the Euro set lists were the same...kinda boring, no surprises, really...sigh...i hope they do a nice little-change up for these UK shows although i doubt the set lists will change much until the US Tour and the album is released.

My Manchester tickets put the on-stage time as even earlier, and I think the Sunday curfew is 10:30pm at the MEN Arena...  :-\

so they said here in norway... bla bla bla, curfew is  strickt, blablabla. almost 2 hours over they were!

Then Axl will probably hit the stage around 10 pm local time.

You were kidding right? In Paris "strict" curfew was 11:30PM (strict and Paris don't belong in the same sentence but whatever loool) and the show ended around 1:20AM...

In the UK they impose fines per minute after curfew, and they're normally pretty nasty. I don't know if they do that in France and Norway! For example, the Rolling Stones picked up a ?50,000 fine ($90,000 US) for finishing 20 minutes late.

I bet Mr motherfuckin' Promoter does, though! ?:P For those who asked how much they'll have to pay. You can assume it'll be ?1,000+ per minute. They're designed to be punitive for big ticket bands precisely to stop them (or more accurately whoever's promoting the tour) having that attitude.

Damn, I don't like that setlist. When I went to Hammersmith the setlist was so much better. Here's hoping for some more new songs in Manchester & Birmingham.

If there were tech difficulties and Axl said to the crowd that he couldn't hear himself sing...maybe he decided AGAINST doing the new songs because of how they'd come across?

So he stuck with the familiar as he can pull those off?

The timings for the UK shows just make no sense to me from doors time right through to curfew - 6:45 doors on Sunday at Manchester - how on earth do you get 2 bands on, and have Guns do 2hrs+ when curfew is 10:30-10:45? Let's say Bach does 7:00-7:30 (which won't happen) and Bullet do 7:45-8:30 - best case is we can get them on at 8:45 (yeah, right) and give them two hours... maybe if they don't have Bach (only Bullet is advertised) then it works?

Judging by tonight's show, the support were late off... why wasn't their set curtailed to get the headliner on earlier?

Tsk, tsk, not a good way to start the UK part of the tour. ?Maybe if they showed up on time......

I know people want to hear the new songs, but even if they didn't play many new songs it doesn't mean it wasn't a good show.  If the band had a lot of energy, and izzy played the last four or five shows it could still be a great show.

We have remember that those watching the show, arnt the ones who spend their life on the message boads, so it was probably a exciting and fun show for them. Most of the people at the show probably dont even know Axl has new songs. Also for those who are going to start saying this band needs to be on time, need to realize Guns N Roses have never been on time or if they are then it happens once in a blue moon.

Why do they have to change the setlist, it's a tour right, and with 13 years of no album comming out, what do you expect!

I went to the first new york show and got to see the new songs played, but if they only played the blues and I got to see izzy play 4-5 songs with the band I would have been thrilled. ?To me it the songs they play matter, but how the band sounds and the energy are much more important.

Hilarious that they play a cover in a slot where "better" or another new song could have went, but still leave on a bunch of AFD rehash... I feel so bad for all the fans of the new group that got cheated out of seeing 4-5 new tracks. :no:

Ok dont want to start a rumour but ron really did not look happy i dont know why he didnt do his usual solo he seemed to hide away in the dark not his usual jolly self plus durin patience axl put his arms on his shoulders but got no response from him so axl shrugs his shoulders and walks off. For me it was a disapointing show the bootleg is better than greece but i need better mics me thinks ?

What is the reason that they have these early curfews?

To minimise disturbance for local residents when the venues empty out, essentially. The fines are imposed by the local councils.

this was the first shw that i'd say was a real dissapointment. this far into everythiing yet only ?1 new song. and its not good seeing ron not happy..

My Girlfriends sister went to watch Boyzone and Ronan Keating there and they didn't go off till almost 11.

I would guess GNR will go on at around 9 and play till almost 11.

Nobody said 10pm. Virtually every venue in the country is 11pm, except Sundays which ~can~ be as early as 10:30.

The whole "Ron not looking happy" thing could be because of a lot of different reasons.  My guess is that he could have been pissed becase of technical issues with the sound.

Yeah, they didn't play a lot of new songs, but Izzy was there, and that's pretty cool I think.

80 minutes late and a loss of 5 or six songs? Very disappointing. I don't think we'll get any reasons for this and obviously someone has told the band they can't go on past 11pm or the plug will be pulled.

If you went to a sporting occassion would you tolerate it being this late? I doubt it. I've gotta catch the last bus from Newcastle out into the suburbs at 1130pm tomorrow night and if the band choose to be that late it's inconsiderate for all the fans who have to travel back.

The whole Ron being upset situation seems simple.  He's pissed about going on late and the "technical difficulties".

I've been to probably 100 concerts, and I've never seen a band have "technical difficulties" like GNR.?

i cant remember which song, but on the 15th at hammerstein, ron was crouching down while playing looked up at the fans and threw his guitar pick at them, then reached in his pocket and got another one.  i mean i dont know if anyone else noticed that but its those kinds of things that are cool about him

I think you people need to fucking realize this is Guns N Roses you have heard it a million time and I will say this again. Axl is always late!!!!!!! Its his thing, so why change it? From the looks of the setlist it looks like the fans had one hell of a show. I dont feel sorry for those in attendance they still had a kick ass set, and got to see a kick ass band. The only people who are going to complain are the few people on the boards who have already seen the bootlegs of other shows, or seen the other show playlists. Majority of the people at the show probably have no clue what Better, IRS, or Madagascar really is. So they more than likly enjoyed themsleves the sad thing is we will never know because they are the ones who dont frequent the boards.

it does look like a bad start, but i bet whoever was there had a wonderful time (bar reviewers). it is a shame the UKs curfew system is such that it goes against basically everything rock n roll (and by default gnr) stands for. and it would be nice for them to be able to take the law into their own hands, but obviously its just not feasible. and of course there is the matter that axl should be on time, well, i gotta call bullshit on that. the UK laws are far too strict and cause far too much upset. its just another problem with the granny state of which the UK is living through these days. (i know other countries have similar laws, but the UK, and irish, laws affect me directly which is why i get so pissed off at them).

just got home from sheffield and what can i say.Axls fukin voice is top fricken notch.although he was a little high in the mix,he sounded 100% spot on.the show seemed to go by fast and after each song finished another soon started.only 1 new song (the blues) in the setlist and there i was wishin for more new songs.is this the plan axl has had all along,maybe play the shit outta the old songs until poeple start to wish for new songs in the setlist,maybe.

overall - a top show,band sounded good,axl sounded good,came on at a decent time,izzy played,weather was nice etc etc  :hihi:

What a lame setlist. Too bad the band hadn't learned alot more old songs. This turn of events would have been the perfect time to play a few UYI gems in place of the new songs. If BBF stays in the band, Axl should be prepared for when something like this occurs again.

If Ron wasn't out there for the whole show, then his absence explains why so few new songs were played: he is integral to Better, TWAT (when it is rarely played), Madagascar (he and Fortus work together during the bridge), IRS of course, and CD (bucket's backup solo).

My guess is that he wasn't feeling well; probably had to go offstage for liquids and rest.

If thats true, then why not come onstage only during the new songs? He isn't needed for AFD.

Ron plays the AFD solos that Bucket covered. Axl may have decided to give Ron an easy night and went with the AFD because the majority of the crowd would have wanted it that way.

I know he does the BH solos, but he would be more effective and better used doing the new stuff. Surely fans would rather he be involved and hear some CD instead of having him do BH additions to 20 yr old songs. Things are going to get very interesting late September/early October.

Not really. I just bought a ticket for his September show in Boston, not that it is proof of anything except that bucket is going out on tour in the Fall.

If by incident you mean Axl putting his hands on Ron's shoulders and not getting a response, that could have been because Ron wasn't in the mood to play because he was sick or because of the technical difficulties.  It still doesn't prove that anything happened between the band members, as far as arguments or anything like that.

Some of you panic over nothink, if Bumblefoot was pissed off then so what. Tommy smashed his fucking Bass guitar up at Rock in Rio during the 1st song, did it mean anythink, no just that he was pissed that night/the beginning of it. Bumblefoot might of just have been feeling low, that's all, don't look too much into things.


The concerning thing is the band going on at 9:50 and coming off at 11:00, being 1hr and 20mins late and only playing a 80min setlist is so weak.

Like the gig in Ireland (only worse) gig cut short due to starting late (in ireland was because Axl had to catch plane to london for a party!), what a disgrace.  The smart thing to do would be to drop all these nonsense solos between songs and play more new songs.  What would you prefer Beautiful by christina or IRS by GNR?

I hope that Glasgow with one support act and no Bach will allow for a full set.

the band came on at 9.45 exactly they finished just before 11.50 Sebastian bachs band played for an hour  they came on at 7.00 and finshed at 8.00 fulleral for my bullet came on at 8.15 played 45mins and finished at 9.00 how the fuck were gnr late stop saying that because they was not late thare were on time

From what I remember after a couple of hours sleep.

A great show despite the technical difficulties, I think there were 3 in total. At times it felt a bit disjointed due to the number of breaks, but it didn't take long to get the momentum going again.

At one point Axl said he couldn?t hear himself sing the top notes through his earpiece and said "To me, it sounds like I'm singing through a fucking kazoo"

I got to see Izzy! When I saw them at the Hammersmith I was expecting Izzy to make an appearance but he never did. So I never expected him to show up in Sheffield. He looked extremely happy and comfortable on stage, laughing with the band, taking lead vocals on You Gotta Move, I can?t help but think/hope he's a permanent member.

Bumblefoot seemed to be missing for ? the set list and when he was on stage looked like he didn?t want to be there. ?Although I loved his Don?t cry solo, I couldn?t tell the difference when he was/wasn't playing. I can?t say I missed him when he wasn't on stage. ?He might be a great guitarist but in my opinion I don?t know if he adds anything to the overall sound.

It felt a bit rushed towards the end and only Paradise City for the encore. Slight disappointed with the lack of new songs, I thought they would at least play Better but probably cut the set short due to the problems.

Despite the problems they still put on a fantastic 2 hour show and Axl gave 100% as usual. I can't wait to see them on Friday in Glasgow.

You should read more in the GN'R section since I'm not only complaining. But if Axl wants his new band introduce to the fans they should play more new tracks.

For the Leeds and Sheffield comment... have you known that both cities are in England?
Others mentioned in the thread that the band had to cut the show 'because of the stupid English laws', but Axl & Co knew about these 'stupid laws' so  - if the 'stupid laws' are the reasons for the lack of new songs - they could have started a bit earlier.

Pretty ironic that after all the fears before the tour about Axl and what could happen with his unpredictability - he seems to be the one who is having a ball and is most consistant, when there are times when other band members have been looking like they are ready to fuck off home.

They are working through they're difficulties though, a very good sign.

They are real people, with real emotions - and sometimes people just get proper fucked off and can't be arsed withanyone.

The thing is with the internet, we have access to too much information and can analyze every performance as they happen and compare them to others.
We can take a morsel of information, a mere snapshot of another humans life and create a story, a fantasy we have no right to create - rather than just accepting what we are presented with.

Ron was not his usual self last night, hey - oh well, shit happens.

With this level of devotion and interest in this tour from the GN'R online community, it has ceased to be simply looking at reveiws of concerts.

It has become like a soap-opera and the band members are the characters, almost like Big Brother, we are prying on real people living their life.

I'm not saying its neccessarily a bad thing, just that some people need to get some perspective.

We have people complaining about predictable setlists and people whining when they cut out songs.

Certain GN'R fans are impossible to please. Especially the ones who weren't at the show in question. Judging shows by reading the setlist online.... Some of you should be journalists! ?:hihi:

So more than 1 new song would kill the whole show since 'the majority of the audience will wonder what the fuck is going on'? I don't expect them playin' 6-10 new ones, but 3-4 would show the new direction. You know that it's not such a new band, I guess the players are not happy with playin' others' songs every night while their own tunes are left out.

Look at the setlists. They play more new songs on most nights.

This was one show. Let's see how it goes tonight before making judgments on the whole tour....

It's great when they play the new songs, especially for the many fans on this board who already know them. To the ordinary fan out there it can get rather boring - as i saw when i was at Download festival, people just didn't really seem to be interested.

Overall, i thought the gig last night was great. Bumblefoot's absence for a lot of the gig wasn't really noticable as someone said earlier as it didn't really change the sound of the band too much when he did play. Although, the fact that he wasn't running around and getting into it like he normally does was rather obvious. I think all this stuff about BF punching Richard is rubbish - people just trying to start rumours out of nothing.

I was down the front for most of the gig and one thing i noticed was that there was a lot of young kids who were rocking out to BFMV and didn't know any of the songs when GNR played. Ideally i would say cut BFMV from the set list but thats only because i have a strong dislike for them and Sebastian Bach, in my opinion, is a rock legend.

Setlist was a little strange...but i for one had an awsome time...Great to see Bach's band open cause they were really good. Technical problems were happening through Bach's set aswell but he got on with it...but we all know Axl is a perfectionist...still sounded phenominal to me....and as for Ron at the beginning of the gig before any band were on he were chillin at the side of the stage with the roadies and looked happy smiling away and giving the rock salute to people in the crowd...so by the time Guns were on stage im not sure what had changed. Bring on Manchester.

I'm not over analyzing it, but from Fortus emails I've always got the impression that he doesn't like Ron very much. I don't want to start anything, it's just something I've realised, even though I might be wrong.

Tommy Stinton came across as anti Buckethead. I think he called him hi maintenance.
from the sounds of things it appears BF was happy ealier on in the night. Maybe he was bored waiting for the rest of the band to show up. Maybe they had words before the gig started. Maybe he was pissed as the real reason for not playing the new songd was due to a lack of time. Guess we'll know some day  :hihi:

I was one row from the barrier through out the whole gig (I got to the barrier 20 mins towards the end when the people infornt of me gave up) and I didn't see this alleged punch.....and I watched the guitarists alot (possibly more than Axl)....

Anyway I thought it was a truely amazing gig and I can't wait for Birmingham!....I got some amazing pictures but unfortunately the data on my Memory card got corrupted and only seven pictures survived....and they're the rubbish blurry ones!!!

Do you reckon they'll refund a bit of my money if I promise to turn around and fill my ears with cement during BFMV at Birmingham? :P.....I really cannot stand them....who's bloody idea was it to have them support GnR?!

People have the wrong idea about the new songs. ?When I went to the GnR NYE/HOB show in Vegas the highlight of the show was the new songs which I never heard before. ?During the old songs we were all going crazy but when the new songs came on it was time to shut up and listen. ?So I disagree with the idea that people havent been into the new songs just because they calm down during the songs. ?The reason I am saying this is because someone said that the board members are the main people that know the songs and want to hear them. ?I think everyone wants to hear the new songs at all the shows even if they dont know them. ?We all know AFD. ?CD is what the world is waiting for. ?

Wow Finck, we agree! :rofl: Thats a first. :beer: Back when I seen GNR in July 1991, I went not just to see my favorite band, but to finally get to hear UYI. That is what my excitement was for, not AFD/Lies. Same this time. Yeah, the crowd was quiet during all those new songs, but thats because they wanted to hear them, not hear themselves screaming/talking over them.

I have a question...where do these so called curfew fines go?

It isn't returned to the fans for their inconvenience and I'm sure it doesn't go to the venue employees who have to stay late...

Yeah he didn't play his BBF guitar....he did seem in a bad mood but during his Dont Cry guitar solo he came over to my side and managed a smile (which I'm almost 100% sure was aimed at me.....I know Richard smiled at me but he was smiling at loads of people on our side!)...

Argh cannot wait till Birmingham!.....I hope everyone is in a better mood and that the sound tech guys do their job properly....not only was Axl unable to hear himself but it seemed there was a problem with the Bass drum and Sebastian was having tech difficulties during his bands set....and I'm pretty sure I saw Robin complain about something to the sound tech (I was on the right hand side so I had a clear view....saw Beta alot aswell)

He was off for a fair fiew songs....I actually thought he wasn't going to come back but he did (I think during KOHD).....tis a shame and I would have been dissapointed if I wasn't going to see them again!

Someone threw a rose on stage and Richard picked it up and put it in his mouth....you cold see the thorns but I don't think he cared....and Robin came over to my side alot....he didn't seem to mind the amount of photo's I (and many others) were taking.....I'm going to try and find someone who can send photo's to the comp so I can upload the three pictures I've got on my phone....seriously not happy about the memory card in my camera!

Maybe his guitar got lost in baggage or some shit...looks like this was blown way out of proportion to me :peace:

Fortus has not yet even answered the emails from the time Ron has been in the band. He's answering his April emails at the moment, right? Of course he might have already known at that point that Ron is or will be in the band, but the people sending him emails and asking about stuff learned about Ron joining the band only in mid-May.

Boy Ron looked really grumpy. I read somewhere that he may have had a fight with his wife on the phone.

So far no one else has confirmed him and Fortus having a fight so I don't know what to beleive.

just speculation..and prolly wrong how would anybody know who he talked to on the phone...somebody posted that before the show they saw ron in a good mood talking with Roadies then at some point he got pissed off and left the stage for a couple tunes after the tech problems....his foot guitar prolly got busted or lost or something...it's his own custom guitar...one of a kind and it's prolly his favorite and at least a few years old since there are older pictures of him with it...

if it's all fucked up he has a right to be pissed off...but it's all guesses. nobody know why he's pissed off

I think if anything, that supports the idea that he was upset  because of technical issues.  That "I hope so" doesn't necessarily mean that he hopes he's still with the band.  Could be he hopes the fan gets a chance to see the band again.

If he had a falling out with Axl, Axl wouldn't have put his hand on Ron's shoulders during the show.  I think Ron was just pissed because of technical issues.

I think its more than being hard on himself. Ron wasn't onstage for a significant part of the show. It wasn't a question of not performing well, he didn't perform many of the songs that he had a hand in from previous shows.

It could be more than that, but we don't know what.  I say we wait until today's show to see how things go before pressing the panic button.  It could have just been a bad night for a reason we may never know.  If something's up today, then it's time to be concerned.

The new songs definately do. The band made a decision not to play them. The million dollar question right now is why?

Ron may have shown up late to the gig, forcing the band to go with a setlist heavy in the old stuff.

I hate to say this because he really does seem like a nice guy. But, after listening to the live twat and other recordings from the shows, Ron simply isn't on the level of Buckethead-in any aspect except he looks normal. If he isn't around, so what? Finck and Fortus are just fine. If they need a third guitarist to fill in the sound sometimes, a rhythm player like Izzy can do that. Finck and Fortus could handle the Bucket stuff we have heard on the demos-not just like Bucket but they could do it close enough and with their own style. I honestly thought Ron butchered the end of twat from Madrid and seems to butcher Nov Rain as well. Where Bucket shows restraint, Ron seems to shred more. I don't know...maybe it is just me. :-\ There is a time for shredding and a time for restraint, Bucket seems to have a better sense when it comes to performing live.

i don't think ron butchers anything. he's just not as soulful as bucket, his fast picking isn't half as interesting, nor accurate as BH's, and his melodic side is lacking in perfection as well.
his guitar tone also bugs me a little, even thogh he could change in time most of these things cuz he's a very skifull guitar player, i don't think he fits in gn'r. and everyone just likes him for being a nice guy... but the fact is, problably most of the roadies and guitar techs from the band are nice guys, still they're not in the band.
ron doesn't seem to fit as well. and his sound isn't half as impressive as bucket was...

I thought the show was very good to be honest, i was about 10m back from the front and didnt really see any bad shit goin on with the band. Axl was pissed off at the beginin and ron did seem a bit distant though through the whole evening.

Saw them in lisbon and dublin, two great shows, id say musically they were better last night, really tight, no fuck ups that i remeber, unlike the previous 2 i attended.

Only negative side for me was the lack of new tracks, why drop better???? i cant understand.

One thing i have to say, which really pisses me off: during 2002 and now it seems 2006, gnr have had more technical problems than any band ive followed, wtf is goin on, if the technicians are crap, sack them!!!!!!! get some more!!!!!!!! I'd be really dissapointed if they play no new songs at Birmingham. ?The new songs are awsome and this is the new era GNR, so the new stuff should have priority. ?Download had a great set list and that was at a festival. These are actual GNR shows now, so i'd expect even more new songs. ?

I dont go and see a band just expecting the hits and i think only a minority of people actually do just want the hits. ?Especially if it's not the people who wrote them playing them. ?But hey i'm sure those who went had a great time, especially if u haven't seen them b4, so rock on!

They probably just did not play the new songs because of the sound problems, maybe they would not have come off good if they tried, so they didnt want to ruin the new songs by making a poor attempt at them.

Ron himself has said that he doesn't know how long he will be in the group.  He says he's just doing the European tour and after that he's not sure.

Bumble join in 2 weeks notice, and tried is them best both as a player and to the fans, the guy has one bad night and he's no good for GNR, are you the same people that bashed Robin every show of the 2002 tour? Because back then a lot of people didn't consider him worthy of GNR and anyone could do what he did.
Bf is porbably still ajusting/integraiting is way of playing with the other guys and with music he had nothing to do with most of it written 15/20 years ago. Even if is only in for the our i prefer a musician that shows efort than a virtuoso that doesen't care, Bucket didn't want to stay in the band and didn't get along with some of the other members.
If they didn't need a 3? guitar cause Fortus n Robin could do it, why on hell would they take one then? They had a vancancy on the tour bus and decided to fill it in with the guy and a foot guitar?

Buckethead won me over as a musician in Boston of '02. ?That being said, I'm glad he is no longer in this band. ?The bucket, Mask and yellow slicker makes the band look like a circus act and people are going to judge this book by it's cover. ?I was really happy when the band came out on 05/12 and looked like a normal rock group. ?I'm not saying that it's right, but it's the way things are - people are going to look for every reason to hate this band.

So far this band has rocked as is - i say don't tchange a thing.

BH was....no is, weird!  Come on.....the guy plays guitar (extremely well I grant you) with a KFC bucket on his head!!! Now is it just me who finds this totally fucking wacko!!!   BF rocks, RF totally rules he is so amazingly cool.  For my money BH can stay in loonyville.  Just my opinion, for what its worth.

Didn't Tommy say in 2004 after BH's deparrture the band would work fine with 2 guitar players? Didn't Axl and Tommy have a feud before the Tour because of that? I also think this is a little bit disrespectfull toward Richard, and I can understand if he is pissed off. He is a human, you know, he has an ego. I don't want to speak for himself, but I don't know... fuck, he could play more lead. After the Paris show, I though he was the best but I noticed he was under-exploited concerning the Lead. I prefer 2 guitar players at 100% than 3 guitar players at 65%. ?
My opinion is that a 3rd guitar player just brings egos problems and instability in the band. GNR is not iron Maiden, this band can't work with 3 guitar players simply because it is not needed. Do you really need 3 guitar players and 2 keyboards to play "it's so easy"? Come on, give me a break... VR have just 2 guitar players and they played that song fucking LOUD when I saw them. If Axl wants more guitars, just tell him to turn Rich and Rob amps up! No need this 3 guitar player circus. And the worst part, when Izzy joined the band (wich was great), there were 4 guitars to play "I used to love her". It was a mess. You didn't know who played what. You heard a guitar solo and you had to look at every guitar players fingers to see who was playing the solo. By the time you (finally) found the right guy, the solo was over ::)

what do you do when ron and robin do the due solo on paradise city? who to watch?

The band knew about Brain's partner having a bun in the oven for a good while and had the time to make all the necessary arrangements. Getting replacements mid-tour isn't the easiest thing in the world; remember the time Gilby's hand was broken? They went straight to Izzy.

Also, the idea that Finck is trying to copy Slash's image is laughable. The only time I have ever heard that said was when he wore that bowlers hat - also hes not even the lead guitarist. I mean the guys been having his own image with GNR for the last 9 years and suddenly now hes "trying to be Slash". Anyone with half a knowledge of GNR wanting to talk about supposed image copying would be pulling the Fortus/Stradlin comparisons out.

I thought that was a fiar review, althought I know Axl's voice isn't that bad in 2006, and i don't like calling Baz a 'muppet'. But the part where he talked about Izzy adding legitimacy to certain songs is true, and the guitarists being hired hands........it's true, they admit it, Axl admits it, so don't get upset about it guys!

yep - he used to write for the NME (says it all really) and he reviews a lot of gigs in london mainly.  Last seen, he had pointy bits of cardboard stuck to the sides of his head (think his spikes/dreads fell out) - maybe he wrote this dodgy review on one of them!

Can anyone name one music critic who has championed a hard rock or metal band? Kurt Loder has been good to Axl for quite a long time. But it seems that every other critic has to shun hard rock and metal.

Any critic who does even go near metal will laud bands like Tool, Perfect Circle or some Maynard-related group. But when it comes to straight Metal and Hard rock, they just write it off as a throwback-bloated-misogynistic-crap.

this guy is also a classic Indie/goth - he really isnt into this kind of music (from what I've seen of his other writing in NME - he used to to tour reviews for the Manics) - so I reckon he absoutely wrote this beforehand - prob based on 2002 reviews.

I dont reckon SCOM should be an encore either - its a great song, but for those of us who are real fans - it is somewhat overplayed - its far better to have a new song like IRS or Maddy before PC.  Or a pile-driver like nightrain!

I don't think the critics hate Axl per say.  They just don't appreciate that he is calling this band Guns N' Roses.  And everybody has to expect that  When people think Guns N' Roses yes they do think about Axl, but they also think about Slash and Izzy.  While I have no problem with Axl calling this GNR, I still think he should've called it something else.  As far as critics goes he would've had better reviews if it was called something else.  I know that when I talk to my friends about this version of GNR they refuse to call them GNR.  They say it's Axl's band.  It will take time before this lineup is fully accepted as GNR.  Sad but unfortunately very true.

When it comes to a new album, ten years is way way waaaay too long a time.
When it comes to realizing that Slash isn't in the band anymore, ten years is no time at all.

All the people above bashed him as it's not what they wanted to hear (presumably "Axl put on an amazing show, and sounds amazing and/or just as he did 'back in the day').

The guy has an opinion.

Surely we can agree / disagree with it sensibly, by bringing up a good, solid counter-arguement, instead of saying "he writes like a highschool kid" or something of the like. It doesn't show that what the guy has written is incorrect. To me it just shows that the people above are on major losing streaks with things to say, so resort to critiscising the fine details of the review.

This review is well written but  full of envy, negative energy and bitterness. Really made me feel unconfortable. I wonder why this man has been so negative towards the idea of this gig he was attending, right from the first moment.

I know this guy's a dick (most NME people are), but how can anyone dispute that statement. We KNOW that's what happened, and if it wasn't for that Axl wouldn't have the name anymore, and therefore there's no way he would play a set made almost entirely up of old songs. I knocked the review because I just dont think its a well-written review - it seems very paint by numbers to me.  his actual opinion doesnt bother me (each to his own etc) - but this review is more of a bad summary rather than a thought-provoking, interesting review.  I see no point in sending goth has-beens to review gigs that they dont give two hoots about.  I'm not disputing the facts of the past.

I agree with a few of you here. It is not a sin to give GNR a bad review if indeed the reviewer felt the show was not up to par or something. But this guy Simon Price does not back up his criticisim. Why was Baz a muppet? Finck looks nothing like Slash. And calling GNR hair metal?  Anybody who has listened or seen GNR know this is no hair metal band. I also agree it looks like this was written before the guy even attended the show. No comments on how the band actually played, he answers none of the questions many people may wonder about that may not be familiar with the new band like: were the new guitarists any good? I really don't care if someone writes a negative review about GNR, as long as it's well-written and they have something to say. Unfortunately, with this review, that is simply not the case. This is one of those reviews where partway through you think, this guy didn't like the show and I'm curious as to why, halfway through you want to grab him by the scruff of his shirt to say why are you making such ridiculous points, and by the end you realize the article is so lame it's not worth the bother. Any kid coming out of the arena could have written a better review, good or bad, than this one.

Out of that list though, how many of those bands have only one original member in them? Beyond the numbers count will always be the problem that Slash took on an almost mythical stature as far as GNR was concerned given his contributions to the band and the rock n' roll image that he brought to the table. He was the epitome of everything a larger than life guitarist was, just as Axl was the epitome of a classic front man. For many people, GNR was a 2 man show, and no one would say boo if it was Axl, Slash and a totally new band.

Everyone who is getting wound up about the sometimes poor reviews should brace themselves for CD's reviews, because they will probably all be in the same vein. In fact, I would bet many are already written without having heard the album.

I suspect Axl could care less about these reviews though because he is more interested in using the name to headline shows, sell-out arenas and move albums than he is critical acclaim. Otherwise this band would not be called GNR, as he knew that such a great degree of negativity and polarity would be associated with keeping the name.

Some of you should lighten up, it's a pretty much bad review, so what? don't cry/whinge  about it. The important thing is that the fans who actually attended the show enjoyed it.

I guess my objection to his review is that he comments on everything but the music. Arent critics supposed to be the people who see through all the bullshit and appreciate just the music? Instead of the music, this guy peddles everything else. Its more like gossip that a review.

 I emailed the guy actually told him his review sucked as he spent 90% of it finding ways to try to be witty to insult Axl and not even focusing on the important stuff like the music,crowd reaction,overall vibe and feel of the show and suggested he should check out madonna maybe as perhaps Rock N Roll was not for him.He replied back to me with
