that is strange there is no thread on one the greatest bands of all time.

my favorite album, maybe Rocket To Russia.   favorite song, Poison Heart.  or the KKK Took My Baby Away.

There was no "typical punk band" when they helped create the genre.

Theyre popular because their musics good, they were cool and theyve influenced countless bands.  Hopefully youll give them another shot and come around...if not, oh well.

I bought The Crysalis Years 3 CD boxset a while back, and I can't listen to it in one sitting. So many similar songs. That said some of my favourite songs were by them so they're great in small doses. Blitzkrieg Bop and Today Your Love, Tomorrow The World were warm up songs at my old band's jams for ages.

They fucking rule and their sound can be attributed to loads of Rock and Punk bands too this very day. Timeless excellence.

Long live The Ramones.

Hey Ho, Lets Go!

Because their shirts are sold at Hot Topic. Thanks to that, there are a whole bunch of brand new longtime fans ::)

My favorite song is "Somebody Put Something In My Drink"

One reason is that the radio in USA didn't play their music.

I just watched 'The Story of The Ramones' DVD again yesterday, so I had to chime in.

They had their moments of greatness and their moments of shame, but they kept at it and they did it their way (albeit Johnny's way). I'm a fan of latter-era albums like Brain Drain and Mondo Bizarro, but the classic albums grandfathered entire musical genres like speed and thrash metal using the melodies of the 50's, so you have to give props.

And it's good, plain fun. How many bands are truly fun anymore?

Because they are unique.

"The Ramones are the first punk rock band. Other bands, such as the Stooges and the New York Dolls came before them and set the stage and aesthetic for punk, and bands that immediately followed, such as the Sex Pistols, made the latent violence of the music more explicit, but the Ramones crystallized the musical ideals of the genre."

From Allmusic.com and I couldn't agree more.

My second favorite band ever. If anyone asks me my 5 favorite bands I have trouble rounding out the last 3 cause so many come to mind like Pantera, Alice In Chains, Bad Religion, Misfits. But the top two are a lock. I have already informed my girlfriend if I ever get her pregnant with a son his name will be Joseph Ramone Buckalew. The man had one of the greatest voices in the history of music. Dee Dee was like their Izzy Stradlin in the songwriting sense. I think there is only 1 MAYBE 2 bands EVER that could challenge starting off their careers with 4 albums as amazing as the first four Ramones albums. Zepplin did and then maybe you could say Aerosmith or Sabbath or Bad Religion but then go back and listen to RAMONES, LEAVE HOME, ROCKET TO RUSSIA, AND ROAD TO RUIN. I think your mind might be changed when you're done. I remember getting into The Ramones when I was about 10 and finding out they had just called it quits. I just instantly fell in love with the music tho. It lead me into a love of punk rock I still have. Theres alot of bands like NOFX and Pennywise I probably would never have given the time to listen to. I am not jaded to the fact that they did have some duds. Not everything that they put out was great and no album ever matched the 1st 4 but they were never bad and never got the recognition they deserved. Great summer time music too. I love when it first starts getting warmer out and you can roll down your windows and let something blast. Usually for me it's some ramones or appetite.

so, tonight I listened to Ramones (really listened) for the first time in years, and I was like "why did I ever stop listen to them, this is brilliant punk rock" bopping my head and just wished for summer to come.. went on to wikipedia to see when Joey died, and it appearantly was 9 years ago today, quite a coincidence

so rest in peace Joey and thanks for the music :)
