Title: A Clockwork Orange
Post by: MadmanDan on September 03, 2006, 10:01:27 PM
I saw it, thought it was a pretty good and original movie. Then I played it to my friends, and all of them, without exeption, thought it was the biggest piece of horseshit they ever saw....

  Any opinions?

It's one of the greatest movies ever.  It really reflected the struggle in society in that time period.

                                                                                                                         Regards,
                                                                                                             Your Humble Narrator ;)

It's out there alright!  But yes, it's a masterpiece.  I just love the quotes from that movie, like, "Naughty, naughty, naughty!"   :hihi:

I just love how he addresses Beethoven as Ludwig Van!  :hihi:

So many great moments in that film, I can't even begin to list them.

I had an A Clockwork Orange avatar for about fifteen thousand years, so count me.

All I will add though is,

what a soundtrack!

Another great thing was Alex's wardrobe throughout the film, I just dug the white jumpsuits and fedoras, then the suits....

There were so many references to evil in that movie.  The prison warden who looked like Hitler, and the uniform numbers of Alex's old friends, the one's who became police officers and almost killed him.  They were 665 and 667.

One of the best Kubrick's movies. I can't believe some people dislike it, it's really a piece of art, along with 2001, Full Metal Jacket, Lolita and The Shining - and I'm only talkin' about the Warner movies!

Also, you may want to try Dr. Strangelove. Peter Sellers is nothing but amazing!

Edited to fix the mistake.

NBK is not a kubrick movie... i mean, you know that, sorry. :)

I love this movie.. it's so strange that it's good :) I just like the simple idea of the movie and it made me really think about some things.

Dr. Strangelove was brilliant also!  I love how Kubrick puts his own mad twisteed humor on things, it really adds to the film!

A Clockwork Orange is actually my favorite movie and Stanley Kubrick is my favorite director.  all of his movies were brilliant, with the exception of Fear And Desire and Killers Kiss.   he was one of the true artists of film making.  he never repeated himself, he always did something different every time.

Because you've seen it a zillion times doesn't make it overrated.  ;)

Just because she said it was both overrated and that she's seen it zillions of times doesn't mean she was implying it was overrated because of the latter.  ;)

I just think the directing is all over the place, the storyline isn't clear enough, you don't really know what Kubrick really wants ( did he ), the actors aren't particularly good, and if what made if cult is the violence, not my cup of tea.
Plus, it isn't representative of the era at all.

I do think Kubrick should have gone more into the medical side of prisons, trying to cure criminals, but it was full of "eluKubrickations" instead.

What the bloody 'ell does that have to do with anything?

He used wallpapers, clothes, whatever you name it of the time he made the film, there are connotations of the time politics too, even the main character's family is into their time, yet, all of it is illogical.

As always when Kubrick tried to bring in politics or morals.

Eh, I liked it and everything, but I do agree it's very over rated.  I do have to be drunk to stay intrested all the way through.

biggest piece of horseshit I ever saw.... well not the biggest but it's up there. It's a  shit movie and I swear it's appeal is based on cult status. It's "cool" to like it.  In some way I think alot(not all) of people who like it, feel it gives them some type of indie cred or something. My buddy used to love it so much when we were in highschool and yet the other day he tells me he thinks it sucks now. gee that's funny I've been saying that for years :hihi:. Anyways this is just my opinion of course but I think it blows donkey ass.

Natural Born Killers was directed by Oliver Stone, but it is a Quentin Tarantino orginal story. Quentin did not endorse the movie because Oliver Stone massacred his script.
