Title: World Series 2006 Detroit vs. St. Louis
Post by: zakas80 on October 22, 2006, 02:49:54 PM
Thought I'd make this to discuss the games.  Detroit looked horrible last night.  I'm hoping that they can turn it around, I'm a bitter Met fan and don't wanna see Cardinals take this one : ok:  GO TIGERS!!

I hate the Cards too but I'd rather root for the National League, if only to better validate the Mets' 97 wins this year, as I'm sick of hearing they compiled MLB's best record (tied with NYY) in "Quadruple-A".

So far it looks like the extra rest hurt rather than helped the Tigers.  Also, I love this whole foreign substance controversy with Kenny Rogers.  With that in his head, his long-overdue postseason implosion is guaranteed in his next start (if they get that far).

I am amazed at what Rogers is doing. He now has 23 consecutive scorless innings. If he can do it again in game 6 he is gonna come very close to the MLB record hell by Rivera.

Rivera has it for the postseason record right? Cause Orel Hershiser has the Major League record with 59 consecutive scoreless innings in 1988.

Hershiser, my favorite pitcher of all-time!
Tigers will win in Game 4.

Yes RIvera has the postseason record of 33 1/3 consecutive innings without giving up a run. Running from 98 until game 5 of the 2001 ALCS.

I hope you are right but beating Suppan won't be easy. He's only given up one run himself!

Actually, if I'm not mistaken, the record for most consecutive postseason shutout innings for a pitcher belongs to Christy Mathewson.

Nope it is Rivera. He broke Whitey Ford's record. Oct 13, 2000 - The Yankees batter the Mariners? 8-2? to take a 2-games-to-1 lead in the ALCS. Bernie Williams and Tino Martinez hit back-to-back HRs in the 2nd inning for NY? while David Justice drives home 3 runs. Mariano Rivera breaks Whitey Ford's record for consecutive scoreless innings in postseason play with 33 1/3

Correction: Mathewson holds the record for consecutive scoreless innings in a SINGLE postseason.  Sorry for the confusion.

27 innings (three complete games!) in the 1905 World Series for the Philadelphia Athletics.  No small feat.
