Title: Two questions about GN'R
Post by: Skid Rose on January 10, 2007, 10:44:24 PM
Hey guys, I live in L.A. and I've heard rumors that the church in the November Rain video (the bigger church where Axl and Stephanie walk out of), is located in Pasadena. Is this true? Has anyone here been to that same church?

Also, does anyone have a clip of Axl's piano solo from the Dec 19 performance? It's the one he did right before Nov.Rain. Not the one he usually does.I  think this one was improvised.

Thanks.

just a set, as far as I've heard, could be any church really, guess they just matched it in with some nice backgrounds.

don't know 'bout the clip.

I thought it was a real church in New Mexico...

I'm pretty sure they say that in the 'Making of November Rain' video.

I guess they used two churchs for the video: a real one (I don't know where is) and a fake one build on set

I think the smaller church was actually a mobile church, its discussed on the 'Making of November Rain' video. I'll have to watch it again now

What the hell does that have to do with anything?

As for the churches. The small one is used in movies and s mobil. the other is real. Can't remember the location. Just remember them commenting it costs a lot of money to rent.

Nah, the one they get married in is/was a real church because in the Making Of video Axl talks about how the priest  who 'marries" them use to do service at that same church and that he didn't know that untill they arrived there that day.

the church in the slash solo scene is a replica from a church in Mexico. they made one similar in the desert just for the video.

Wrong.

I believe the truth is it's a church on wheels from the movie Silverado.

You hit the nail right on the head!!  That is exactly what Axl said in the video.  They said that because it was late winter, early spring they were not able to find the perfect scenery, due to the time of year, that is when they decided to go with the church on wheels.  All of the answers about both of the churches are in the video.  I can even recall  Andy Morahan saying how expensive it was for them to rent the big church.

I think I remember reading somewhere that the band paid for the video themselves and the record company wouldn't cover a dime.?

I heard it was Axl alone who paid the costs of November Rain, Estranged and Don't Cry videos because of the big budget (1-1,5 million $).

A little off topic, but I think the priest was a former priest who no longer did services, Axl said in making of-he mentioned the church they had ceremony was one of the last places he had done services

Okay, I know for sure that there are two completely different churches in the video.  I know that the small one is used from a set.  But the other church is somewhere in So.California. Some say it's in Pasadena, but that's what I'm trying to figure out.  I have an aunt that lives in Pasadena and when I visit, I pass by tons of old churches.  That's what makes it hard for me to identify it.  Plus, they all look alike and I'm sure there's so many more I still haven't seen 'cause for some reason, Pasadena has many, many, many churches.
