Coincidentally, Velvet Revolver's album just got pushed back till June. You know, I'd rather see a single with a video like "Madagascar" come out around the original, "tentative" release date to allow that much time for a proper setup and promotion for this band to come back strong. March right now would be rushing it too hard. A summer release is more fitting, and we can look forward to the single gaining that much speed. As I recall, "Slither" came out well before Contraband and that strategy worked well for them.

We will see.....

Regardless - as much as I love Madagascar, it is not the right choice as a comeback single. Epic isn't the way to go - a straight up rock song like Better that kicks all kinds of serious ass is the right way to say "WE'RE BACK MOTHERFUCKERS!"

According to Axl Rose, ?Chinese Democracy? the first GNR studio album in 14 years, will appear in June. This news may have been exciting to fans, if it weren?t for the fact that Rose had changed the release date of the album more than 30 times.

 

This album may make it to the World Book of Guinness records. ?Chinese Democracy? was initially supposed to appear in 1999.  Since then, the date of release was changed at least four or five times per year. Each time, Axl Rose explained that the songs are good, actually quite good, however he still has to work on them.  To date the work on the album cost him 13 million dollars.

 

Interestingly, the most hard core fans know almost all of the new songs, which are supposed to appear on ?Chinese Democracy?. The band regularly plays them at concerts. In June 2006, two of these were played at a concert in Warsaw. Supposedly Axl also has a music video ready for the song ?Madagascar?.

 

Despite the length of time, there is enormous interest in the new GNR album. Concert tickets are selling out, and a greatest hits album released 2 years ago went 5 times platinum. The last publicized GNR recording ?Oh My God? appeared in Nov 1999 on the soundtrack of the movie ?(some movie title which translates directly to ?The end is near?)?.

Well we can forget the June thing they won't know anything we don't, a Polish newspaper won't leak the release of CD (no disrespect to anybody Polish btw). The Madagascar bit is interesting though, I've never heard that, it certainly seems to be a favourite of his considering it's been played at about 95 % of shows since RIR 3. It doesn't claim that Madagascar will be the first single, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was a 2nd or 3rd single though.

The article also says that "Axl has changed the release day over 30 times". Well last I looked, Axl has never given an actual release date, and the one date that he did provide is listed as "tentative"

According to that Rolling Stone plea to Axl Rose by a "famous" singer, Madagascar is meant to be better than November Rain, he said he had heard the studio version and thats what he was basing his opinion on! The June release date is probably a guess, but as things stand at the moment there is no way March 6th is happening, Summer sounds more probable since Axl supposedly has another 3 months booked in a recording studio in NY.

We dont know Better is the first single, its pretty clear looking back that the Harley Ad was rushed, very rushed, they just took the Paradise City commercial and layed Better over the top of it. It was a last minute thing done by Merck to try and hit the original November/December release date. As for already having a video done for Madagascar, they probably assume that the recording you see played on the screens during the live performance of Maddy is from the video (see the VMA performance for reference)

New management, new approach..... hell the record company may not even want Better as the single.

Well, IMO, as far as ballads go, I have yet to hear a live version of NR, SCOM or Patience, that sound nearly
as good as their studio version counterparts....So its safe to say, the studio versions will elevate these songs, which

In fairness it does not say Madagascar is the first single, just that Axl has a video for it. I'm with you though I think it's a load of shit and the writers probably made it up.

They are gonna release it through ordinary measures that every other band uses to release albums.

Other than the track Chinese Democracy, Madagascar is my least favorite out of all the 'new' songs that have been leaked/played live (not counting Silkworms or OMG). By no means am I saying 'it sucks' or anything, it certainly doesn't, I'm thinking I'm just missing something since I've heard it the least compared to the rest of the tracks (and when I hear it live its played during the encore when its pushing 2 am!)...also The Blues took a while to grow on me, so maybe Madagascar will sooner or later as well.

But yeah, its too dark to be the first single. I'm sure PitMan(n)iac's would be thrilled that their boy got a two minute solo in the first single though  :P

I'm guessing if they put out a ballad, it'll be the 2nd or 3rd single, and would most likely be 'The Blues'...first single will either be 'Better' or some hard-rock oriented track that we haven't heard yet.

Also, lotsa bands film more than one video before albums are released these days...seems to be a growing trend the last 5 years or so.

madagascar is among my favorites of guns  songs ever and out of the new songs its right up there with better twat catcher and the blues in my opinion

Madagascar is a great song; its lyrics lend itself very readily to the visual medium. It also announces Axl's triumphant return to the world music stage. Personally, it is a great choice, but the only drawback is the fact that it has been out there circulating for four plus years now.
