these news, there was the same "reported by the ap" news in 2003, are NEVER confirmed.
the same unique pictures float around the internet, the officials in these locations are either not able to confirm these dimensions or are usually the same people who take part of the hoax.

It's been measured and weighed and is now being confirmed elsewhere from what I understand.

Sometimes things ARE real.  Silver backed gorillas for example.  Those were pish-poshed as not real for a very long time before they were accepted.  It is a wild story and will need to be verified again, but to just say it's fake out of hand, that just can't be fair.

so now we have to "prove" that thing are fake? ... usually it"s the other way around ....

Wild hogs are supposed to be shot pretty much anywhere in the US because they destroy habitat and are not native animals. I dont know why everyone here is so angry.

OK , I just saw a local news report about this , apparently this thing was a legend in that part of Al. . It was called Hogzilla by the locals . Someone managed to take a photo of it a few weeks ago . The report said it's weight was 1051lbs. and the kid shot it with a .50cal revolver , 350gr. bullet . That is one hell of a large round . I used to pop off .54cal , 425gr. maxis out of a rifle and after 5 or 6 rounds my shoulder would be sore .

I've fired a colt (3 bullets in a row) - what ammo size does that take? - so I can compare.....

Is it a humongous hog, a monster mistake, or a huge hoax?

That's the question being asked Tuesday about a stunning photo distributed last Friday by the Associated Press that purports to show an 11-year-old Alabama boy standing behind a half-ton wild hog his father said he bagged with a pistol.

The boy, Jamison Stone, looks tiny in the photo as he stands behind his prize pig, which his father claims measures 9 feet 4 inches, and weighs 1,051 pounds.

"It feels really good," Jamison said last week in a telephone interview with The Associated Press. "It's a good accomplishment. I probably won't ever kill anything else that big."

Jamison's father, Mike Stone, said the prize porker was hauled off on a truck to the Clay County Farmers Exchange in Lineville, where Jeff Kinder said they used his scale, recently calibrated, to weigh the hog, according to the Associated Press and a story published in the Anniston, Ala. Star newspaper.

Kinder's scale measures only to the nearest 10, but Stone said it balanced one notch past the 1,050-pound mark.

"It probably weighed 1,060 pounds. We were just afraid to change it once the story was out," he said.

But the photo ? published on hundreds of Web sites, including FOXNews.com, and emailed millions of times ? now is under attack from blogs and Web sites that claim to be able to prove that the boy and his father hammed it up for the photo, and that truth sometimes isn't in the eye of the beholder.

I have seen a pig on a farm that appeared to be too fat to walk, and it laid on its back. or its side. Im sure it had to roll over once in awhile and upright itself to eat. But i wouldnt be able to guess its weight. Fat as hell though.

The Mystery of the Monster pig appears to have been solved.

The 1,051-pound hog, shot and killed by 11-year-old Jamison Stone and the subject of a world-wide Web firestorm over the photo's authenticity, really is...

That's "Fred" the pig, and according to Rhonda and Phil Blissitt their humongous hog escaped on April 29, four days before it was killed, according to the Star newspaper.

Late Thursday evening, their claims were confirmed by Andy Howell, Game Warden for the Alabama Department of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries.

"I didn't want to stir up anything," Rhonda Blissitt said. "I just wanted the truth to be told. That wasn't a wild pig."

Her husband agreed.
