ok i'll leave this topic alone now but LOL @ EDITING OUT YOUR COMMENT WHICH SAID "GIANT ROBOTS MAKES FOR BLISTERING SCI-FI ACTION!!" or something in that tone. lmao. i knew i should have quoted that comment but oh well. you're probably gonna try to deny it too you big kid. go shine your 2 inch thick glasses with rubber bands around the neck and go watch star trek.

Well, apart from the fact that the robot designs suck, I'm looking forward to it, since I love Transformers. But no way this will beat the 1987 cartoon movie.

Yeah, a Michael Bay movie about an 80s toy franchise, starring Shia LaBeouf. . . how can that not work? Bay has already shown his immense talent for sci-fi story-telling in such movies as, uh, The Island? And that space rock movie. Coupling that talent with a property with the immense pedigree of Transformers is a master stroke, this movie could easily be the Blade Runner of the new millenium.

Even if Bay wasn't involved I don't think there's any way you could entice me to line up to see a movie about robot cars.

I really hope Michael Bay don't mess this up, transformers are just great and yes 1987 cartoon movie kick ass. Transformers Robots in the sky, the soundtrack of that movie is great too  : ok:
Is my idea or at 00:57 Nicole Kidman is there?  ???

The special effects look pretty damn impressive, that's for sure. I think I'm glad that it didn't copy the cartoon exactly. It looks much more modern.

I thought the Cartoon movie sucked ass.  They killed off all the best characters to make way for famous Hollywood voices to be put into the mix.  As for this movie, it's going to blow.  I don't think they can pull it off.  Tyrese will be like "OH SHYT SON, TRANSFORMAS IN DIS MUTHAFUCKA" or something stupid and of course we've already seen the poor product placement by Chevy. It'll be nothing more than overblown Hollywood hooplah.

the cartoon movie is ok, but i totally agree with you, the best characters are barely in the movie and are replaced with new toys for hasbro to sell.  lame.  the franchise went downhill after that.

totally kick ass soundtrack though ;)

nope she's not

...we have Megan Fox instead

The effects are just looking incredible, and i love the new designs - though Megatron perhaps wasnt as well thought out as he could have been

Two sequals have already been announced, though of course final approavl is gonna wait for the opening weekend.....

and i love the new designs

you CAN'T be serious....they are horrible and barely resemble the original characters.  take our prime and show me the rest of them and i wouldn't even know it was a transformers movie.

megatron looks like a metal turd and all the other robots look like scrap metal quickly welded together.

the only thing that can save this movie are the effects and the action.  the story is already dog shit.

None of the designs were "well thought out," as they're all based around one huge brain-fart: These designs are supposed to be "realistic" because when in robot form  all of the internal and external vehicle parts are still on display. Why is that a fallacy? Because these giant robots aren't really cars and trucks, they're really giant robots. Why are they full of car parts? Surely they should be full of robot parts which facilitate transmogrification between their different forms? Shouldn't they? Of course they should. Silly robots.

Maybe they evolved from Nasa space-junk. That would be pretty ironic.

I cant believe Im going to actually try and argue this point, but Im board.  The designs dont look like the cartoon because this is "live action".  Thats why they dont resemble the original designs.  Optimus looks awsome.  And so does Bumblebee.  Im waiting to see how the rest work on screen. Also, did you want Megatron to become a hand held gun?  Im happy they came up with new designs.  It makes this movie more than just a retro 80s thing.   Anyways, Im not some Transformers fanboy,  I just hate that message boards have become a dumping ground of negativity when it comes to movies.  Also, Michael Bay isnt THAT bad.  He delivers what he promises.  Pearl Harbor was kinda dumb, because he took himself too seriously. And since then, he has become an easy target.  But I felt that he redeemed himself with the Island.

That makes no sense. Transformers fanboys could point to any number of cross-platform franchises as proof that good design transcends media. And in return we could argue that Transformers cartoon characters are hardly the pinnacle of iconic design. To which the fanboys could argue that if you don't like the design of the characters and you intend to change their story there seems to be little point in licensing their franchise when you could just make up your own robot names and silly narrative and call it an original movie, leaving their 80s cartoon franchise unmolested. To which we would reply "well, that's Hollywood for you."

Amen, brother.

I'll wait for the DVD...then, if it's shit, at least I can stop it, get up, put it in my driveway, and back over it repeatedly why cursing Bay.

And if it's not...I'll only have waited about 3 months longer than the theater crowd.

Seems a worthwhile trade off.....

Title: Re: Transformers 2007

Why are they full of car parts?

...er, disguise...remember?

You could ask why a giant robot would bother to take on a disguise in the first place - the whole transformation thing is pure nonsense, it serves no purpose at all!

...but its fun, aint it?

Quote
Surely they should be full of robot parts which facilitate transmogrification between their different forms? Shouldn't they?

...er...they do.

What looks like a car door etc is just a part of their body...disguised. Its full of 'robot parts' but outwardly has been formatted for its new appearence

..if you could make your hard drive look like a steering wheel, hell - why the hell not?

The original cartoon designs were shite even back then - 30 foot robot into a gun...or boom box...and where DID that trailer come from?

Funnt how people forget this stuff....

Why would a robot able to fly convert into a plane? :hihi:

Quote
Maybe they evolved from Nasa space-junk. That would be pretty ironic.

...indeed, Nasa missions ACHIEVEING something!

Transformers are supposed to be aliens, wouldnt an alien design look.....alien to our eyes?

...how will it be....''shit''?

Ur not seriosuly going to evaluate a film designed to sell toys, made by a toy company by criteria like plot, acting and internal coherance?

The original show was utterly absurd - gun>robot, the fact the governments of Earth never reacted to the Transformers and the strange decision of both factions to fight over Earth rather than just get ''energon'' elsewhere...

Transformers has always been stupid - its about blatant commericialism and having a good time,

How the hell will a director that fills his films with product placements anyway possible go wrong?!?

What I meant was, in the cartoon, because its animation, they can magically transform from robot to car without anyone questioning it.   In the "real" world, the robot designs actually have to look like they can work, and actually transform.  Thats the biggest reason for the design change.  Also, the designs are updated so as to not look like an 80s cartoon.  And by the way, how is making a live action movie molesting an 80s franchise?  The cartoons are still there.  You can watch them whenever you want.  The movie does nothing to them.  I dont even know if Im going to like this movie.  Im just saying I understand a lot of what the filmakers have been doing.  Changes are neccessary.  A strict translation to film would be pointless, and really wouldnt work anyway.

I have no problems with changes.  but when you radically redesign how the characters look, change their entire origin story....why!?!?  does prime need flames on him?  do robots have lips!!!!!!!  No more Arc? No matrix?  Starscream looks like a monkey....

some changes are just STOOOPID.  did batman need nipples on his costume?  Izzy probably loved that...TOTALLY bold move!!!

Notice I said "IF it's shit", not "it will be shit".  For my money, it's still even money how it will turn out.  Because execution is going to be everything in this type of movie.  So I'll wait.

Man if they want to combine robots that really look like Transformers and besides have a realistic transformation concept, why not base it on an advanced design of the Alternators line?

I really, really don't want to watch them but thanks all the same.

I can appreciate that some changes are usually necessary in making an unnecessary translation from kids cartoon to kids live-action movie but I'm more sympathetic towards the pre-existing fans on this one. We aren't looking at simple aesthetic changes here but radical redesigns of the characters and rewriting of their story which goes so far beyond the "necessary" as to suggest that those involved in the production are less interested in "bringing the franchise to the big screen" than they are in making lots of money by sticking recognizable names and logos on their otherwise unrelated giant robot movie.

But if there's one thing I enjoy about how this "translation" has played out it's that the inevitable line of toys based on this movie-based-on-a-cartoon-based-on-a-toy-line are going to be so impractical or potentially injurious as to defeat the very purpose of the movie.

Nope, Prime and Optimus are brothers who ruled Cybertron together untill Megatron decided he'd rather have power for himself and went hunting for ''the Allspark'' - during the hunt he......crashed....and froze in the Arctic. Damn that really does suck!

i'm not gonna be paying attention to the acting/plot that much either, i mean what do u expect, Michael Bay of all people is directing.

what i am looking forward to is the robot fighting as well, i want some badass action scenes. i used to love transformers as a kid.

it should be a fun movie.

Indeed, all the reports leaking out suggest this film has more action than any comparable blockbuster to date - it should be a CGI masterpiece

no one is saying the effects aren't going to be awesome.  but theres no good reason for why the story is going to have to suck balls.  i find it ironic that the guy who cries over every movie he sees b/c its not "bold" enough or the plot was boring or the story wasn't good etc....  is only looking forward to cgi effects and giant robot fights.

I've read if you dont' care about plot/story at all and only want to see giant CGI robots in cool action scenes then you will LOVE this movie.

i'll probably like it, but never have a strong desire to ever watch it repeatedly

I went to see this last night and I thought it was fucking great. It obviously wasn't meant to be taken too seriously, but for a movie based off cartoon robot cars and trucks fighting eachother, they couldn't have done it any better. And the action scenes were simply amazing!

I loved the cartoon when I was younger and I thought they made good reference to the cartoons too, just with some of the humour of the autobots characters. The movie had quite a few funny scenes and some sad scenes where you really feel for the Autobots characters.

All in all, very well made, and very enjoyable.

Easily the best movie I've seen this year. Highly recommended.

sadly a huge chunk has been OFFICIALLY released as trailers even before the film was released in the cinema!

Bay said he'd never allow any of his trailers to show a robot transforming - well....he's a liar, Blackout, Prime, Starscrean, Bonecrusher and Megatron can all be viewed transforming in trailers he's helped make!

Trawl Youtube and u can watch scene after scene after scene

I have to laugh when these fat cats moan about piracy - they put the stuff out there in the first place

I thought I had watched all the videos.. Seems like I missed this one with Bonecrusher transforming. Cool, tho! :)

Also, some of the scenes had some premiere in Leno and Letterman... Nowadays is hard to not read/watch any spoilers of the movies...

Hmm.. early into the movie my favorite scene was when the cop was after the kid and transformed but as it when on there were so many awesome parts to choose. The highway scene was awesome and the big fight scene at the end. I really like how after some of them transformed it went slow motion.

yea i loved the slow motion parts.
i also loved when that first transformer attacked them in the desert , the helicopter dude.   prime/megatron battles are always good.. should have been longer though.

hopefully a sequel will come.

Transformers 2 is confirmed by Dreamworks/Hasbro

Megan Fox, Peter Cullen and Shia LaBeouf are all signed up - Michael Bay wont be involved (hopefully) but said he's up for it if they ask him

...if he does return expect an aircraft carrier transforming into a giant robot as a certainty - apparently he's dead keen on that

Transformers conquer US cinemas

Sci-fi blockbuster Transformers has entered the North American box office chart at number one, with takings of $67.6m (?33.6m) in its first weekend.

The film has registered the highest first-week box office returns for a non-sequel in US cinema history, beating 2002's Spider-Man.

Transformers, about two races of rival robots who bring their battle to Earth, was also a popular 1980s TV series.

Robin Williams' new comedy License to Wed entered the chart at number four.

Last week's chart-topper Rataouille dipped to number two, with Bruce Willis' fourth outing in the Die Hard films dropping from number two to three.

Former box office leader Evan Almighty, psychological thriller 1408 and Michael Moore's Sicko, a documentary about the US healthcare system, all fell inside the top 10.

Pirates of the Caribbean: AtWorld's End, which was released in May, broke the $300m (?149m) box office barrier, becoming the third film to make that amount this year after Spider-Man 3 and Shrek the Third.

But overall cinema takings fell 23% compared with the same weekend in 2006, which set a record of $135.6m (?67.4m).

Take it seriously?! It's a Michael Bay movie about giant robots, starring Shia The Beef. Use your head man!

I haven't seen it. I'm sure the effects are great an all but ILM isn't about to drop off the face of the earth, I'll wait until they make giant transforming robots for a talented director's good movie.

I honestly can't believe how anyone who was a fan of transformers as a kid didn't love this movie. A female friend of mine said she couldn't believe the level of coolness in that movie (I am 28, she is 30).

I was worried about them ruining the memory for me of transformers but it was real bad-ass. Def worth seeing in theatres.

And now he's retracted his outburst:

"Last night at dinner I was having dinner with three Blu-Ray owners, they were pissed about no Transformers Blu-Ray and I drank the kool aid hook line and sinker. So at 1:30 in the morning I posted - nothing good ever comes out of early am posts mind you - I over reacted. I heard where Paramount is coming from and the future of HD and players that will be close to the $200 mark which is the magic number. I like what I heard. As a director, I'm all about people seeing films in the best quality possible, and I saw and heard firsthand people upset about a corporate decision. So today I saw 300 on HD-DVD, it rocks! So I think I might be back on to do Transformers 2!"

Translation: "Gotta stop running my stupid mouth after all-day coke binges. Please, Paramount, let me have another chug of corporate franchise cock. Thanks."

i kinda sorta know i'm not really a good director and my movies might, wel, kinda suck a lot and i raped the childhoods of millions of kids with this movie that, well, i'm not really sure what i was doing when i put flames on prime and gave him lips but I think people liked it...
