You were not living unless you watched: Friday Night Videos!

That was the best.  I think they played Billy Idol's "Flesh for Fantasy" every single week.

80s TV was unreal.  I'm among the generation of boys that was traumatized when Dudley got molested on Diffrent Strokes (the actor who played the molestor, Gordon Jump, almost never made it back on television after that episode).

Family Ties, The Fall Guy (... Heather Thomas   ), Dynasty (forgive me, I was the only male in the household), Greatest American Hero, Smurfs, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, WWF Saturday Night's Main Event, The Ropers...

Before TYO, the main guys had a show called "Comic Strip Presents" from which the most famous episode is a spoof metal band called Bad News. They did
a follow up where they actually got to play Donington ( I was there) which made up part of it. Very funny - you can find bits of it on youtube, just checked. The original Bad News came about the same time as Spinal Tap, and from what I looked up once they were probably made without knowing of the other.

I hate to sound old, but they just don't make TV shows like they used to.  The only sitcom I watch these days is "The Office".  "Family Guy" and "South Park" are good shows.  Dramas are better these days, but they just can't write sitcoms like they used to.  And unfortunately reality TV (which I have been sucked into) rules the world at the present.

Yeah, same here, along with "Knight Rider", "Saved by the Bell", "Murder, She Wrote" and sometimes "Charles in Charge".

There used to be a show about a girl whose father was an alien (talked to her from where-ever through a crystal contraption) and who had the power to stop time and stuff. Forgot the name. :headscratch:

Damn, Genesis, I wish I could help you on that one but I just can't remember that one.

Yes Sexkitten, if I wasn't playing or watching sports, I was watching tv.  Nerd to the max...some things never change.  :)

I keep remembering shows that I watched every week:
Head of the Class
Whiz Kids
WKRP in Cincinnati re-runs
Electric Company on PBS only for the intro music and minute-long Spiderman segment that occasionally aired at the end of the show.
When I mentioned Just the Ten of Us I forgot to mention how hot the daughters were...and before anybody asks, yes, Nicole Eggert was way hotter than Alyssa Milano.
Oh yeah, one more, a short-lived show called Spencer that starred Chad Lowe if I'm not mistaken.

My childhood/adolescence is starting to look quite sad in retrospect!   :'(

Hilarious, that's my only recollection of that show too.  That Spiderman was great, whenever he shot his web at someone the camera would just cut to the target who was suddenly covered under a soccer goal net.

I'm glad somebody else remembered that too.  Ha.  Hilarious stuff.   :)

P.S. to Faldor, yup, you're absolutely right, The Office and Family Guy are excellent.  The Simpsons is still good but no longer great.

P.S. 2, It probably would have been easier for me to list the '80's shows I did not watch.   ;D

P.S. 3, I forgot to mention 227 and Amen...oh Jesus I think I need counseling!!!  My childhood was spent sitting in front of tv's!  I think I must have looked like Axl in the Welcome to the Jungle video!!!!!!!!!!  (except I had thick, black horn-rimmed glasses.   :hihi:)

Nicole Eggert was hot, but my vote goes to Alyssa.  To each his own though.  And by the way, BOTH are probably still hot.  I know Alyssa is, I imagine Nicole is too.  She was still hot when she was on Baywatch.  Haven't seen any of her since then.

Oh god no Faldor!!!  Eggert got hit hard by Father Time.  Oh man, I saw her on a made for tv movie and she looked horrendous.  I never want to see her again.  If you want to see her look really good, check out a terrible movie called Blown Away...not the one with Tommie Lee Jones.   ;)

Lots of BAD shows in the 80s too:

Small Wonder
Alf

The alien one with the crystal thing, i can TOTALLY picture it in my head.  but i don't remember the name....let me do a quick search....

OUT OF THIS WORLD. The girls name was Evie and she could pause time by putting her fingers together. Her father was an alien and she could talk to him through a crystal. If she stopped time and then touched someone that person would be able to move around like she could while the rest of the world was still.

Evie was totally hot.  I always wanted her power.

One of my favorite shows from the 80's was a science show called 3-2-1 Contact on PBS.

Does anyone remember My Secret Identity?  It was about a teenager who accidentally got superpowers because of his mad scientist neighbor.  I dont remember much else, but I thought it was great as a kid.  :hihi:

ok, here's what i have for you and its not much. first of all it was 1979 so i was 1 year off but here's the info:

"The Curse of Dracula" (1979)

Originally broadcast in short weekly installments as part of the series "Clilffhangers" (see "Stop Susan Williams" (1979) and "The Secret Empire" (1979)). This was the only one of the three stories to be completed by the time "Cliffhangers" was cancelled.

"Stop Susan Williams" was part of the Cliff Hangers TV series which featured three revolving serials. Susan Williams is a journalist whose investigation of her reporter brother's murder takes her around the world in pursuit of bad guy Anthony Kort. Susan narrowly escapes death episode after episode.

"The Secret Empire" (1979)
In this homage to the cliffhanger serials of the '30s and '40s, 19th Century Wild West Marshal Jim Donner stumbled upon a secret underground city known as Chimera while chasing a gang of robbers. Chimera is lorded over by an evil despot named Thorval. Donner teams up with the resistance rebels in their effort to overthrow Thorval's cruel reign, while simultaneously investigating the gold robberies on the surface. p.s. i was right about it being a western!!!!

p.s.s. im gonna get a copy so let me know if you want it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PS  I have very early memories of being baby-sat and when my parents got home from bowling night smelling of smoke, Mork and Mindy would be on tv and I remember it being cool that I was staying up late.  I was 5 when they split, so this is goin' waaay back.   :)

That was Voyagers...he and the curly-haired kid traveled through time making sure everything went according to plan...Phinnaeus Bogg?  I think that was his name on the show.  I can't remember the kid's name.  I watched the show...loved it.   :peace:

Dance Fever was one of those shows I remember from the distant past.  Was that the '70's?  Danny or Denny Terio was the host.

btw, I randomly turned on a Who's the Boss re-run last night and lo and behold, it was the episode where Tony saw Angela naked!!!  Oh man it was great....and by the way, who the hell can deny the fact that the little kid on that show was gay already?  That still cracks me up.  Not that homosexuality is funny, it's just that he was so effeminate from an early age.

Anyhow, funny show.  :)

It was in the early 80's, I remember watching it when I was about 12-13 yrs old. Danny Terrio later sued Merv Griffin for what he deemed was unwanted homosexual advances.

I liked the three blonde chicks, there was one for season one, another for season two, and then the one for 3-8, or how many season it was.

OUT OF THIS WORLD. The girls name was Evie and she could pause time by putting her fingers together. Her father was an alien and she could talk to him through a crystal. If she stopped time and then touched someone that person would be able to move around like she could while the rest of the world was still.

Oh shit! I remember that! Haven't thought about that in AGES!!!

And yes, Small Wonder was really bad.

Yup, Jo Polnicek on the Facts of Life.  Now she does Lifetime movies.  She was the cutest of a pretty homely bunch on that show...well, except for that hottie Edna Garrett.  :hihi:

Yes Nixon, Night Court was hilarious.  I think they went through even more bailiffs.  The rough-talking smokers kept dying.  And yes, I liked Markie Post as well, the blonde lawyer.  She was in There's Something about Mary.  She held up well all those years...and my god, I've never been a big breast man, but damn she had a large rack.   ;D

probably my all-time favorite show. not sure why it hasn't been released on dvd - maybe they are waiting for the 20 year anniversary in 2008? (every season was supposed to have taken place 20 years prior.)

my wife got me the entire series on dvd from e-bay or something. they were just taped from TV, so quality isn't great, but watchable.

I've got the answer as to why it hasn't been released on DVD. ?I just read this the other day.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0094582/faq

Due to the high cost of securing music rights, the distributors of "The Wonder Years" and artists whose music appeared on the show have yet to come to an agreement. Original music rights agreements were negotiated before the widespread use of DVDs, thus the rights to use the music never extended beyond the original airings and syndication. Several television shows that have relied heavily on external music sources, most notably "WKRP in Cincinnati" and "The Wonder Years" therefore run into a problem, since the original agreements never included home video or DVD rights, thus the rights to each song must be renegotiated in order for the song to be included on the DVD. This can be very expensive, and can take many years. For example, the first season DVD of "WKRP in Cincinnati" released in 2007 omitted most of the original music in the soundtrack, since agreements could not be reached with many of the record companies. Therefore, music heard in the original airings and syndication was removed in favor of "generic" music, for which royalties are not due. For a show like "The Wonder Years," in which the original music is an essential part of the structure of each episode, music rights would have to be secured for each episode for each season, since using generic music would ruin the structure of the storytelling. The cost would likely run into the millions of dollars to secure tracks from "The Beatles" and other high-profile artists, which would cut into the profit margin of the DVD sales. This would reduce the profit margin significantly, thereby reducing the liklihood that a comprehensive DVD set would ever be released.

To date, there have been two 'best-of' DVD sets for "The Wonder Years" They are: "The Best of The Wonder Years: July 24, 1999" (1 Disc-2 episode set) and "The Christmas Wonder Years: July 24, 1999" (1 Disc-2 episode set). However, they are quite expensive and do not contain the original music.

I liked Becky Slater the best of Kevin's flames on The Wonder Years.  Winnie was too, blah.  Trouble always ensued in Becky Slater episodes.  Nicole Eggert was/is hot, but my top 80's sitcom chick has to be Samantha Miceli (Alyssa Milano).  She still looks fine as hell today.  Another random fact about an 80's childhood star, Soleil Moon Frye (Punky Brewster) had to get breast reduction surgery.  She had 38DD's, on that 5'1" frame.  Had to tame those puppies down to a 36C at age 15.

Joanie Loves Chachi...definitely has a place on the list of "Worst Shows Ever."

America's Funniest Home Videos on a best of the '80's list?  As Balki Bartokomoos of Perfect Strangers would say to his cousin Larry Appleton, "Don't be riducu los"

I didn't know it was a best-of list. I thought we were reminiscing ... :)

P.S: Does anybody remember Ghost Writer?

Plus, there are again so many I don't remember the titles of:

1) Girl from the future somehow gets trapped in a white octagonal time machine and gets sent to some point in time. Rest of the series is how she tries to get back (the time machine gets stolen, damaged, etc.)

2) A series about a boy and a girl both of single-parents astrologers (who get married at the end). The story was about various things that happened between their families. A scene I remember from this vividly is the guy skateboarding on a huge radio telescope dish.

Plus, lots more I don't even know how to describe.

SCTV counts as '80's and yeah that was hilarious.   Guy Caballero played by Joe Flaherty I think?  So many of those guys and girls went on to be in everything on tv and in movies.  Moranis, Short, Martin, Thomas, Candy.

Wings was alright, but if I'm not mistaken, wasn't it a little '80's a little more '90's?  I can't remember.  To me it was always, ehh.  Alright.   :-\

Wow! Yes. All of it was hilarious! I loved that show. But the only characters I can remember is Doug and Bob McKenzie - the brothers from Canada - take off eh and because they did that song with Geddy Lee from Rush. Yeah, all those guys did go on to pretty decent careers but they are good. I wish they would get together and do skits again. Could you imagine the stuff now?

I don't know how the hell I missed this post!  Great stuff, but I'm sorry, Nicole Eggert was by far the queen of the '80's.  Milano, Bach, and Grey are in a 3-way tie for 2nd.

Honorable mention has to go to the girlfriends of Mike Seaver on Growing Pains.  Chelsea Noble was like a tv Cindy Crawford, and the blonde who posed in Playboy and was subsequently kicked off the show wasn't too bad either.   ;)

There were 2 hotties on Just the 10 of Us as well.

One more thing, I always preferred Berkely to Amber-Thiessen on Saved by the Bell.

Funny you bring up Scott Baio.  The joke about him is he used to get all the up and coming actresses straight off the bus once they arrived in Hollywood.  He had Pam Anderson, before she made it big, and many, many, many others.  He was on the Howard Stern show earlier this year and revealed all.  It was a fascinating interview.  The guy was blessed and he lived life to the fullest, that's for sure.  I talk about him in the past tense not because he's dead, but he's older and has apparently settled down some (hence that stupid show he had on VH1).

Nicolette Sheridan, I think it was Knots Landing.  I can't believe I forgot my favorite soap opera beauty - Victoria Principal.  For better or worse, the females dominated the TV viewing in my household, so I was subjected to far more soap operas than any young boy should have to endure.  But, I did get to enjoy some scantily clad beauties, along with a cat fight here and there.  So I had that going for me.  Which was nice.
