Here Today... Gone To Hell!

This weekend I'm getting some GNR ink done, I thought it'd be fitting before the show on the 15th (just my way of showing my excitement haha) Anyways, I can't decide exactly what I want to get. Does anyone have a different version of that pic cause i know there is a few or can anyone post a picture that they think would be cool, like another logo? Anybody have any better suggestions? I'm getting it on the calf of my leg.

ive got the top banner from teh apitite logo on my back, im going to add to it eventually but i don't think it will be the rest of the apptitite logo, but will be more gnr stuff.
I wouldn't go with that pic you have found because its not really gnr related at all and to be honest i just think it looks a mess especially as a tattoo it would just not look right.

A good tattoo fits the body well. Like circular tattoos work well on the side of people's shoulders, i have one myself.

yeah when gnr are over so you can tell your kids and grankids about when music was good :) i don't see the the reasoning behind saying don't get this or that done, sure if its a band of the now like trivium but most memories from gnr are from over 15 years ago so it is a tribute to soemthing that was not somthing of the now that you may not like in say 10 years time, its already tood the test of time.

Anyway mines on my back, if i ever don't like it anymore (not that i think i will) i just won't look at my back in the mirror :D

Don't just pick something, choose something with arguments.....think about it for two weeks...And review if you still want it. You should see it as art, as it is. Choosing something with symbology behind it, like Parisrocks said is the smartest way to do it.

That's funny, I never saw that interview, but that has always been my rule for tattoos.  I have 2 so far & I'm still happy with both - 6 years & 3 years later.  Also, as far as the round GNR logo, I decided at about 9 that I wanted that as my first tattoo, but when I got older, I thought it might be a little too much lol.  I'm reconsidering it now for my ankle, without the blood spatter background.

I got a GN'R Tattoo when I was 15 as my first and only tatoo. Eventually I had to have it removed by laser (I felt stupid every time I took my shirt off), I was scarred and had to have re-tattooed to cover the scare with a "well thought out tattoo" that I still love as an adult. The whole process cost me over $2,000.00

I couldn't agree more, I mean a tat is a symbol of YOU, so have a tat of something for you, done by you even. Such as use a GNR symbol and recreate it into something more personal to you :)

My tat is personal to me as I am actually bald and I wear a green bandana all the time. Also I even have a scar on the top of my head from a tree falling on my head. Plus I redrew it myself, as I believe a tat should be your own, and drawing it yourself and having it personal to yourself should make it so nobody else will have the same tat as you, cuz having the same tat as someone else is about as cool as herpes...

So pretty much what I am saying is get something that is personal to you as a tat, you will enjoy it a lot more ;)

On a similar note though, I too have GnR related ink. ?It's based on an idea I had when I was about 17 for a tattoo. ?I kept putting it off and putting it off as I didn't want a band tattoo and I didn't want writing. ?However, the idea just kept coming back and coming back and 8 years later, I decided it was very fucking right for me after all. ?It's very personal and well thought out. ?It doesn't look like much and it's only tiny but it's exactly how I wanted it... ?I wanted it to look like I'd always imagined it would, like it always looked in my sketches. ?It might look handwritten and not very detailed, but that's how I planned it. ?Only thing I didn't plan was knocking the scab during healing, so the 'e' needs touching up! ?It's a lot brighter irl too. ?Here's a picture anyway:

I actually have a GNR specific tattoo on my arm as well - I got it in 2001 - It says GN'R in red, and has tribal thorns going around it. ?In size it's around 3x3. ?I love it - I have been a fan my whole life, i'm 28 and always wanted a GNR related tattoo. ?I thought it out for a long time and made sure it was what I wanted, and I couldn't be happier.

I don't know about yourself, but I've already been listening to GN'R for over half of my life, I could easily see myself listening to GN'R til the day I die. I reckon most people on this board are the same too.

It's funny, my parents asked me not so long ago, when I was gonna buy a new Metallica shirt "when are you gonna grow out of this?" and I thought that was odd, because the older I get, the more I'm into music. I guess I'll never "grow out" of rock n' roll.

It's not exactly like the design on the shirt, but it's the same idea. By the way, the blood towards the bottom is real, not part of the tattoo  :P

I would only get a Guns tattoo, if you have been a fan from the very begging. If you have just started liking the band the last couple of years, then I would wait awhile since your music style has a chance of changing. Remember a tat is going to last a very long time. How are you going to feel having roses tattoo'd on you when your 70.

I have 5 tats, and there are times, when I think man I should of never got them but there are other times when I want to get more.

I would love to get Axl's Rocket Queen tattoo, or the red moster from the Appetite CD, maybe even a set of Chineses starts on your shoulders.

Just think long and hard before you make a rash decision of getting a tattoo.

Actually, I just went to a tatoo parlor yesterday and gave the tattoo artist a stencil of the gnr logo with the flowers on the banner.

Even though I'm 15, it doesn't matter, because my parents don't care so yadaydayda. I get it right after today's gig...gonna be painful because one of the flowers is going on my wrist.

I always take my time on choosing a tattoo but at the end of the day if I'm not completely happy with the way it turns out I don't care....they always means something to me and they highlight an aspect of my life....
I've ony had two tattoo's so far....the first one is a sort of tribal heart on my lower back....it's just basically my first tattoo and it's actually really nice.....the second one is a silhouette of a cat on my hip, my cat (which I had since I was al ittle girl) was poisoned by a neighbour so we had to put her down and I had the tat done in her memory.....plus it can serve for directions incase I'm with a fella who is THAT clueless (or THAT drunk!) ;D

Woah! Dude slow down, you are only 15 and want to get a tattoo that will stay with you for your entire life. My first tatt, was when I was 16 and now that I'm 25 I regret ever getting what I choose to get. Never ever get a band, girl\boy friends name or a naked woman tattooed on you. You will regret it in life when your music taste has changed, you'll have some persons name on your body that would of screwed you over, and the naked woman would look like a old lady once your body grows, or shrinks. I would only get me a Guns tat for the fact I have been a fan since I was 8 years old, and I'm still holding back on making a mistake of having something drew on me that could be obsolete in 10 years. Its your choice to get whatever tattoo you want if any, but just know you are very young and your taste, and style will more than likly change as you get older. Just be patient before you get all inked up.

Yeah, there's always gonna be somewhere that'll do it.  My little sister who is 14 has someone ready to ink her.  She's not gonna do it anymore though after I had a few words! 

I told her that if someone's willing to break the law and fuck with their license over something such as age, who knows what other laws/guidelines they're breaking and not giving a shit about as well.  It's one thing to take a risk with being young and not liking your ink in a few years, it's a whole other story to have your arm fall off or something cos the same tattooist who didn't give a shit about your age didn't give a shit about his dirty needles either.

I promised her that if she waits, I'll buy her first tat when she's 18.  Just hope she does wait.

It was such a crazy experience getting that tattoo!

I remember searching high and low on this site for high quality pictures of that picture and found very few...

But it turned out that the tattoo artist was one of the biggest Axl fans ever just like myself and had kept old magazine covers with Axl on the front from his childhood, so naturally we were able to find a much better picture of the Rocker tattoo :D

Anything goes,  That is a fantastic piece of art.

Some tips to help it heal - at night smother it in sudo cream,by the morning it would of soaked in.  During the day keep putting baby lotion on. I did this with all mine and they healed lovely. Also don't pick!!  I did one of mine and it went a bit patchy, but that was 16 years ago and it don't look too bad.

Hoping to get my new one Sunday - fingers crossed.

Dude go with the Cross if it's not too late. Dont put the Skulls on it, just the cross. A cross tattoo will always stay in style, and when you are 50, 60 or 70, it's just a cross. dont have to explain to people it's a GNR cross. I have Axl's rose (without his name) on my ankle and on my back right shoulder area I have the Guns N Roses flowers and guns (old logo) and it does say Guns N Roses above it. I got Axl's rose when I was like 17 and the logo when I was 19. I don't regret either. I love them and I'm glad I got them. And I'm ancient now! The rose is a little faded and I need to get it redone but my current boyfriend is having a fit about it haha.

On the show Miami Ink it is on TLC, some chick came into the studio, to have a GNR tattoo inked on her knee cap I was only able to catch the very end of the episode where they give a run down of the shows tats that were inked. Anyone see this episode???

Yeah,I saw it last night. It was pretty cool. She had a darringer pistol and two roses tattooed on her kneecap. The story behind it was she is a huge GNR fan, and her friends always made fun of her for it. She met her husband, and said to herself if he's a GNR fan she'll be happy. It was cool, and an awesome tattoo.

He had brought all his tattoo stuff over (it was all professional equipment) and anyways, he was giving my roomates some cool tats and I came home around midnight drunk outta my mind, and I said to give me and Axl portrait. He said he couldn't do portraits yet, so I said just make something up, and this is what I got....I do really like it though. :)

^ I never said it was the new logo, but I was just at the two Sydney shows and they had official merchandise with that design on there and it has also been used on the banners at the back of the stage on both the 2007 and 2006 tours.

Just make sure its a quality tattoo, whichever logo you choose.? I see too many, um, mediocre to poor tattoos because a lot of people dont know what is possible nowadays.? Dont mistake really bad "coloring book" looking? tattoos for "old school" style tattoos.? Thats a big mistake I see people making.

You should've had some white highlights put in the rose. Makes it "pop" and not look so "coloring book" like. I notice whoever did it kinda botched the right pistol by the trigger. Looks good otherwise.

I pondered a long time about a GnR tattoo that i could get that didn't say GnR...Didn't have guns on it...Didn't have skulls on it....and was original. At this point...I'm worried that if I post my tattoo picture on here people are going to steal the idea. I just got this done 2 weeks ago and the cross won't be done until next friday. Now i have just figured out that I have no idea how to attach a picture to this so haha if someone tells me how to do it...i'll post my picture.

That is fucking sweet dude!

That's a nice tat, but the thing that throws me off is how different the guns are. The hammers are completely different. The grip panels are also completely different, top and the bottom flare. Also, the cylinders and the transition immediately aft of them above the grip are very different. The gun on the right is pretty unrealistic while the gun on the left is much more accurate. I think I would have just preferred it if the guns were symmetrical.

The thing I don't really like is when one takes a pic right after the tatt got done. It always looks too shiny. One of my friend did the very same thing, sending me a pic of her  new tatt a few hours after she got it done.  It was hard to give an appreciation because there was this shiny thing about the color :(
It's a shame that the gun on the right doesn't look quite right because of some irregularities in the drawing. It's a great tatt anyway.   :beer:

The Artist is Nikko Hurtado. He did this one, and my Axl, when he was first starting out. He is well-known for doing color-portraits now.

Don't you think it might be a tad more original (and respectful to whoever's tattoo this is) to get your own design worked out instead of just copying someone else's exactly? 

I know I'd hate to walk round with a tattoo knowing someone else had the exact same one and I'd also hate it if someone saw one of mine and nicked it for themselves.  Maybe it's just me. 

Ehh, that design is used on many of GN'R's logos. Many people have that tattoo, it's one of the more common GN'R tattoos  ;)

It may be a common enough design, I guess, but it seemed like the original poster wanted to wholesale lift that tattoo, placement and all.  Maybe I'm just a bit over sensitive on the subject! 

As far as I read his post, he only wanted the template of the logo  :)

I don't have a camera phone but I got a bunch of blue roses around my ankle. Axl has a blue rose on his shoulder and I wanted a gnr tattoo that wasn't obvious. Not only that but Steven Tyler used to wear blue all the time because he thought it 'was the closest color to truth' so I have two of my favorite bands and no one but me can tell  : ok:

Was made just this morning.  Thanks to my brazilian friend Rodrigo Bastos Didier who designed it.  He is making myself the same tatoo right now with DJ Ashba instead of Axl, so I can put on the other arm.  Thanks a lot bro.  And thanks to the best tatoo artist in the world, Marie-Claude Perron from Studio Exstasie in Montreal to did exactly what I had in mind.....

I'm getting a new tattoo in a couple of weeks. It's not a GNR tattoo exactly but GNR was definately a big influence in my design. I'm getting a quarter sleeve done, which will basically just be a group of green roses. Cannot wait ;D

It's a nice design man, certainly I would be proud to have that as my tattoo.

It stands out, and the tattoo design is layed out very nicely with the skull in the middle.

Ouch!!  That had to of hurt just a tad, but then again you had previously visited the bar as you mentioned.  I like it and especially due to the fact it is a pretty unique gnr related tat, can't say I have seen that done before. :beer: :beer:

My mum died two years ago and when CD was released 3 months later This I Love was the song that pulled me through my lowest times; the lyrics felt like they'd been written exactly for the situation I was in.  I've always adored Axl's lyrics and it means so much to have them permanently inked on my body.  I thought these particular ones would fit perfectly with the portrait of mum I wanted to get - from a photo she had taken in 1945, when she was 21.  I was fortunate enough to get the work done by the incredibly talented Hannah Aitchison and she also tattooed a memorial portrait of one of my dogs at the same time.  Both were done yesterday so please forgive the red and swollen arm.  When it's healed properly I'll post a better pic because you can't quite see all the lyrics in this one.  It reads: "I've searched the universe, And found myself within her eyes."

Outstanding. To me I've always thought the song has serious weight when considered from a bereaved point of view rather than being dumped by a chick. I've always thought of it as an ode to Axls mum rather than an ex girlfriend.

Celebrating my 15 year anniversary of my UYI tattoo and decided it was time to get it touched up.  It's stayed in great shape over the years.  Got to show Axl the tatt during the HOB Vegas show during the solo in "Rocket Queen" where he saw it said "Wow!"  Gave me the thumbs up and walked to the back of the stage towards Tommy, his eyes locked on me the entire time, said something to Tommy and motioned him to walk to the front of the stage with him, where he pointed at me for Tommy to see the tatt and he and Axl gave me the thumbs up!  One of the coolest moments in my G N' R life  :)
Got to show the tatt to Axl again after the last Hammerstein show in NYC in 2006 and he remembered me from the HOB show.  It was a great quick and very cool moment.  Hope I get to show it to Axl again sometime soon now that is freshly touched up  :)
Crazy how time flies; remember getting the tattoo in 1995, at 17 years old, a senior in high school - and getting so much shit from people who had G N' R dead and buried (yet these were the same people 3 years prior who were wearing G N' R t-shirts).

That is a tattoo, that I'm interested in getting done too. And I recently asked a tattoo artist, and he said that it would be a problem as it's orange and it will fade.

He most probably is an amatear and I'm going to ask around other artists. That's why in the Appetite For Collection thread, I was asking for that picture of the guy at the Hammerstein shows, with the UYI 1 tattoo.

Nice tattoo, and it makes me even more excited to get the same done.

I'm going to be getting alot of GN'R ink, need to start planning. I'm 22, Feb 1st, so it's the perfect time to start getting tattoos I feel.

That UYI tat is amazing!

Back in '95 the blue and purple ink weren't as strong as they are now; however I also felt getting UYI I was more fitting as it was the first album in the set and I always loved the colors of red and yellow together in this piece.

I'd imagine that, as he's already done, retouching it at a later date would be less problematic on the lighter colours. Some tattoo's done 20-30 years ago end up being a complete mess, if you're gonna have any of the UYI artwork done I'd suggest the yellow and red combo too as its so much easier to keep fresh.

WOW, this is so sweet.  Years ago i burned GNR into my arm.  When I first saw this logo it was on a page with a bunch of other rumored CD logos.  I tattooed it freehand over my burn because I liked it so much.  Imagine my joy when it turned out to be the logo.  My other tat is "GNR" on my forearm, done at age 12 on a greyhound with a thread wrapped needle dipped in india ink.  It is HORRIBLE.  After seeing yours I MUST get a professional one as well.  I TOO will be at the KC show, it'd be awesome to see your ink in person.

This morning I went to my car to go to work and I discovered that somebody had stolen all my CDS. They got my NWA CD.
