Post by: wells on July 18, 2007, 02:00:59 AM
Where is our host for tonight? Still sleeping? Wake Up! Mr. Updater...  :hihi:

Seroiusly, Christos... you and sukeberon are the best updaters in a while, after T&T (you know I had to say that).

To all attending, be safe, have fun and beware of ninjas  :hihi:

edit: how the hell did I manage to screw up the title... damn, coffee is what I need, coffee is what I want

Quote
CHRISTOS HIJACKING VELIMIR'S POST... PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING:

Thanks to the updaters: Suntorytime, Axl the Red

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO COPY THE UPDATES OR/AND THE SETLIST TO OTHER SITES, AT LEAST MENTION THE NAMES OF THE PEOPLE SENDING THE UPDATES... THEY'RE SPENDING MONEY TO DO IT AND MISS PARTS OF THE SHOW FOR US...

I'll text Jarmo and see if we're getting any updates from him as I don't know who else will be at the show.

Sukeberon won't be for sure...

Suntorytime: My Michelle

I guess Axl the Red made a mistake earlier... Asked them both...

I left this mistake on purpose, so I could see if the person I was implying all these days gets their updates from us, even through another site.

Axl the Red was right, My Michelle was played before Liquor & Whores, and not before Madagascar...

I asked very nicely to add the names of the updaters wherever you post the updates or the setlist.

Since you like it this way, from now on I'll be an "asshole" and name the ones who don't do it...

I have just come back from the show.

UTLH in Budokan was completely different from that of the 2006 tour with Izzy.
Today's one was quick-paced dance music-like UTLH.

I definitely prefer the version of the 2006 tour. But I am happy that at least I listened to the song live.

I don't know what other Japanese fans thought when Bubbles turned up ;D Just a big ?

Except that Bubbles appeared and did Liquor & Whores...

Unless Jarmo has anything important to add...

One more small thing...

Richard was wearing a " 一番 " Number One T-shirt at the begining
and did not wear his stocking-like arm warmers today.

Some Japanese female fans including me are curious about them because
they changed from red -> black -> red during the first three shows ?::)
and we don't know exactly what they are meant to be. Fasion?

I hope he will resume wearing them in Osaka. (Preferably different-colored..)

One of Alice Cooper's guitarists also wore those arm stockings. They were black but you could see red underneath where the holes were. We thought that he was wearing them because he didn't have any tattoos on his arms.

Yeah I'm not complaining either, but "Rocket Queen" is my favorite song and they don't play it nearly enough for my taste.  They played it pretty much every show in 2002, guess that was one of the songs along with "Think About You" that got knocked off due to the "leaks".  Dah well!  Fantastic set anyway, as always.

It was not like reggae. It started like
"I used to love her but I need to kill her ... " in all one sound without the melody.
I could not recognise that it was UTLH first because of it.

the second time with the melody something like that.

I cannot describe the style of the music (the 80's pop music like?). It sounded like they did it for fun as it was after Bubbles.

Hey guys, first time at a computer since the concert at budokan. Axl was really strong, THe Japanese fans pretty much only sang during choruses which was pretty funny, but I can understand since i`m trying to learn japanese.

mucc was pretty decent, cool stage presence, the bass player had an electric upright which is cool and their fans were hot.

A singleton Japanese fan tried to start the guns n roses chant (several times actuallY) before the show started which was pretty funny.

Frank sounded really good, I nevr thought i`d notice a drummer making so much of a difference.

Axl got on his knees during KOHD and crawled across the stage, prayer style? He omitted the sing along instructions, figuring it would be ?moot with the language barrier i guess. Because of that his entrances got off and the ending got confused. I`ll try and explain, normally he sings the chorus with crowd echoes thret times and then a break right? this time he sang twice and so it was confusing where the climactic one was. anyway the band got confused and the ending seemed a little improvised.

another minor glitch was axl almost missing an entrance before the first guitar solo in nr.

otherwise, everything was great. all the new songs need is... recognition.

i hope my english is ok, I`ve been living here in Japan awhile now >-<

Keith Tarrier of Rock and Roll All Nite has submitted the following report: "I was just at the historic Budokan in Tokyo [on July 18] to see GUNS N' ROSES. As well as [putting on] another awesome show here in Japan, GN'R invited special guest Bubbles [a.k.a. actor/musician Mike Smith] from the 'Trailer Park Boys' [Canadian comedy show/film] to sing that 'Liquor and Whores' song [which Smith performs in character on 'Trailer Park Boys']. Bubbles took front stage and the band played the whole song. The Japanese crowd were not too sure who Bubbles was, but they were into the song nonetheless as they knew this was something special to see. GN'R clocked in tonight's performance at just on two and a half hours. Once again they played 'Don't Cry'. Next GN'R move on to Osaka on [Saturday, July 21] to finish off their Japan tour."

I can write a long report on each song...but for now I report this...on the way back to the station a few guys before me were walking silent and one suddenly said to the others 'but...it was a real great show, wasn't it' and the others nod and said 'totally'. and then they were quiet again.
So I got that  they were silent not because they were tired but because still blown away by the show.

*I was at the arena and heard quite a few peeps singing along to the new songs. esp better...pretty surprising.

*I found L and W was not only fun but also good performance.

* IRS sounded urtra modern with wicked bass beats/sounds.

*when they came back for the encores, guiter guys were bare top and tommy had a few shiny tapes on his chest.

*when richard was playing his riff, axl tickled him on his sides.

Yeah, I noticed the same thing. At the three concerts I've been to on this tour, there was a quite a big cheer when Better started and many were singing along. I found that pretty surprising too. Perhaps, the Japanese are downloading motherfuckers also...

Bubbles wasn't as unknown to some Japanese fans as you might think.

Here in Japan, a lot of the places that teaches English (conversation) they use Trailer Park Boys shows as teaching material.

Even though they might not have known the song Liquor & Whores, they probably knew who Bubbles is.

Fans have recognized him at the shows.

I've never seen fans that are this polite at the GN'R shows anywhere else in the world. They have a lot of respect for the band and the band members.

It's very apparent when you watch the fans while somebody plays a guitar solo.

Remind me again, why do I have to explain this to you?

You are like.... who?

Cause last time I checked, it wasn't you spending four and a half hours infront of his computer to update people on this board...

And I didn't expect that posting a couple of jokes, without interrupting the updates that I was posting 6 days ago, would hurt anyone...

And what's even funnier, is that your first post on this thread, instead of being a "thanks for the updates", is a post on how should we our jobs...

get well soon, christos.? :-*

here a japanese review. http://www.barks.jp/news/?id=1000032978

many of old rock writers in japan are crap.? they call themselves critics and yet all they do is to try to look important.? 'I am this close to the musicians you admire! I?m a big shot!'' fuck that! they diss bands that don't do what they want. only to prove themselves deaf and blind.

apparently this writer is not that kind. He saw every show to the end and has been giving a fair review to it. in short he was blown away by the band like everyone that saw them. The whole house was one.
I like writers like him that still can feel music. according to him axl pronounced 'budokan as '武道館' like japanese people would do, (mmm? ;D )which is rare and to his knowledge?only one other frontman could do that and it was the late Freddie mercury.

To Mr, Masuda, thanks for the confirmation after budokan. You should post here sometimes. :D

Suntory, funny you should mention that...

That just reminded me of when Axl said "domo arigato - どうも ありがとう" at the first Chiba gig his pronunciation was spot on. Many gaijin (including myself at times) fuck that one up by saying "arigoto" instead of "arigato." That's not a biggie but with some words a simple vowel mistake can get you arrested... I should know, I've made some classic mistakes...

It would be pretty cool, if Axl could speak Japanese.

This is exactly what I wanted to say. (but was too scared to mention.) Thanks. Well said.
I was especially pissed off by Masa Ito because of what he said in his raidio program in March this year. (I still believe that his negative comments on GNR caused poorly sold tickets of the original dates...)
