Title: VMAs last night
Post by: Robman? on September 10, 2007, 07:28:10 AM
what a fucking joke. worst VMA's ever.

It was a mess, the had like 10 stages with people performing at the same time, and nothing was in sync so there was no full performances,

Don't even get me started on the shitty opening performance.  ::)

It was bad, I set it up to record & breezed thru it in between the commercials of the Giants/Cowboys game. The VMA's just get worse every year. MTV makes such a big deal about themselves during the whole proceedings. I also miss the presence of more than 2 bands from the rock genre. Also, how can you have a video awards show when they don't play videos anymore?

Britney Spears Performance Kicks Off MTV Video Music Awards

Sunday , September 09, 2007

LAS VEGAS ?
Somewhere, Kevin Federline is laughing. An out-of-shape, out-of-touch Britney Spears delivered what was destined to be the most talked about performance of the MTV Video Music Awards ? but for all the wrong reasons.

Kicking off the show Sunday night with her new single, "Gimme More," Spears looked bleary and unprepared, much like her recent tabloid exploits on the streets of Los Angeles. She walked through her dance moves with little enthusiasm. It appeared she had forgotten the entire art of lip-synching. And, perhaps most unforgivable given her once-taut frame, she looked embarrassingly out of shape.

Even the celebrity-studded audience seemed bewildered. 50 Cent looked at Spears with a confused expression; Diddy, her new best friend, was expressionless.

Some comeback.

The VMAs was hoping to reinvent itself on Sunday. After suffering poor reviews and a decline in ratings over the last few years, MTV moved the show to Las Vegas' Palms Casino, shortened the show from three hours to two, and changed the show's setup to focus more on performances than awards.

To that end, Justin Timberlake and Timbaland, Kanye West, Fall Out Boy and the Foo Fighters were each hosting four separate suite parties, where much of the show's performances would be held.

Thankfully, after Spears' dismal start and a lukewarm intro by comedian Sarah Silverman, the show rebounded. Timberlake's suite was packed with revelers, alcohol and eight lingerie-clad stripper types on raised platforms. Before he accepted the Quadruple Threat of the Year award at his suite, the DJ summoned the partygoers to watch the monitor and go crazy if Timberlake won.

He did, they did, and Timberlake said: "I want to challenge MTV to play more videos!" Then he was whisked away by bodyguards and disappeared. He later won male artist of the year, and hit home on that point: "We don't want to see the Simpsons on reality television" ? apparently he's not a fan of either Jessica or Ashlee's MTV shows.

Meanwhile, Rihanna won Monster Single of the Year for her ubiquitous hit "Umbrella," and Beyonce and Shakira won Most Earthshattering Collaboration for "Beautiful Liar." Beyonce's shimmering gold dress barely contained her top; immediately after she picked up her trophy, she asked an assistant backstage to help fix her dress, apparently to prevent a wardrobe malfunction.

Other performers were appearing on the show's main stage, in front of an industry-only audience seated at tables, like at the Golden Globes. Chris Brown gave one of the evening's most extravagant performances ? a dance-centric, eye-popping spectacle that channeled Michael Jackson, right down to a brief "Billie Jean" imitation. Later. he was joined by Rihanna, who performed her monster single.

While Spears' performance was a showcase, others were delivered in snippets: Akon crooned a bit of his "Smack That" before an award was announced, while the cameras zoomed in on performances from Fall Out Boy and the Foo Fighters mid-performance in their suites, giving viewers the sense that they had happened upon an intimate concert. Cee-Lo delivered a rocking version of Prince's naughty classic "Darling Nikki" in the Foo Fighters suite; Soulja Boy was showing Kanye West his "Crank That" dance in West's suite.

Timberlake and Timbaland's joint suite looked like the most exciting ? T.I., buffeted by pole dancers, delivered a rousing version of "Big Things Poppin'" while 50 Cent stopped by to perform "Ayo Technology" with Timberlake and Timbaland.

Not to be outdone, T-Pain and West danced high atop Las Vegas in one of the Palms' balcony suites as celebrated "The Good Life." And Lil Wayne, doing double duty in the Fall Out Boy suite, was particularly animated during their joint performance.

But the TV audience never got full views of those performances, though the network promised viewers more via its Web site and other "remixed" versions of the show. That might have been the purpose ? to whet the audiences appetite for repeat viewings by promising glimpses of what they missed during the traditional broadcast.

TOMMY LEE Vs. KID ROCK: An Eyewitness Account - Sep. 10, 2007
The Associated Press is reporting that Kid Rock and Tommy Lee tussled in the audience at the "MTV Video Music Awards" on Sunday night. MTV VJ Sway said during the post-show that he saw Kid Rock walk up to the M?TLEY CR?E drummer, who was sitting next to Diddy, and "deck him." The incident was confirmed by Palms Hotel and Casino public relations representative Larry Fink. Both Lee and Kid Rock are ex-husbands of Pamela Anderson, who was a presenter at the show and delivered her lines from atop a table in the audience. Although it wasn't clear whether the two rockers were fighting over something related to Anderson, it was hard to imagine another scenario.

Another eyewitness, rap producer Rich Nice, said although Kid Rock threw the only blows that landed ? a backhand slap and a punch ? Tommy Lee was the instigator.

"It looked like Tommy Lee initiated it because Kid Rock was ignoring him," said Nice, who was two tables away. "And Tommy Lee kind of antagonized him. And then when Tommy Lee stood up, it looked a little weird, like 'Yo, what?'"

"When Tommy stands up is when Kid hit him the first time with a backhand," Nice continued. "And then Tommy Lee looked like he was trying to get at him to aggressively retaliate and then Kid Rock hits Tommy Lee again ? bong. And then security grabs Tommy Lee in a headlock and pulls him off."

It's notable that security guards let Kid Rock stay for the rest of the show while Lee was dragged out.

I realize MTV was trying to do something new and fresh but it sucked more then any award show i've ever seen...I felt like I was watching the BET Awards first of all...I hated that the performers didnt perform full songs....and it was just horrible....They shoulda had The Boss on there playing 'Radio Nowhere' and next year I wanan see Springsteen,VR,Foo Fighters, etc all nominated for best rock album

They have sucked for years. I don't see how they think they can keep the "V" in their name anymore, it's ridiculous.

Edit: I just watched the Britney opening act. I figured I'd give her a fair shake at it, since the reviews had been pretty bad. Honestly, she seemed as if she didn't even want to be there, completely detached. She moved so slow, it was bizarre. I feel sorry for her, and hope she does not go the way of Anna Nichole Smith.

THANK GOD

Sour grapes from Kanye West -- again. Shut out last night (Sept. 9) at the MTV Video Music Awards, West threw a tantrum in front of media and crew backstage as the show was ending.

West, waiting for an elevator in a crowded hallway, began yelling about losing all five categories for which he was nominated.

"That's two years in a row, man ... give a black man a chance," West said, stomping around his entourage and directing his comments at a reporter. "I'm trying hard man, I have the ... number one record, man."

West said he never will return to MTV.

The rapper was nominated for male artist of the year and video of the year for "Stronger." This is the latest in a series of awards show outburst for West. Last year, he crashed the stage at the MTV Europe Awards after not winning for best video.

yeah the played, they were good, but the sound sucked. Didn't see a full peformance from anyone, and every artist was playing at the same time in a different hotel room. Fuckin sucked ass, the new format is terrible.

Hopefully MTV realizes the real reason its ratings are so low are its shitty regular programing, its inability to reach out to music fans that dont watch the channel (which is any fan of music), since it doesnt promote itself on any other channels. They should focus on playing fuckin music, and showing things besides hip hop, r&b, and shitty pop at the vmas.

Britney Spears' performance at the MTV VMAs has been removed from MTV repeats and online.

According to the MTV website, the station was "forced" to remove the troubled singer's Sunday night performance at the 2007 VMAs from repeat broadcasts and it has "been pulled indefinitely from all MTV properties worldwide until further notice." No further explanation us offered.

Spears' expected "come back" appearance has been the subject of much discussion and negative reaction. She stumbled through the show, appearing disoriented and many have speculated that she was drunk and that her career will not recover.

 :hihi:

Edit - I haven't been able to find this on Youtube, anyone have a link?

Kanye West is really starting to rise as one of the key douchebags in entertainment these days.  I'm sick of all this "Kanye is real and speaks his mind" bullshit.  Kanye put himself into that MTV world and if he doesn't like it then boo-fucking-hoo.  Eazy-E and Dr. Dre weren't little cry baby bitches whining how "the MTV awards screwed them over and how kewliez Britney wasn't".  Those guys bucked up and took the world by storm in their own way.

Kanye has done nothing but bitch and moan over the past few years and try to pull the race card whenever he gets a chance.  It's 2007...get the fuck over it...obviously MTV and the entire music community lack this supposed "segregation" that Kanye is bitching about as the majority of musical programs they show these days features R & B and rap music.

The guy is a whiney bitch who made a few catchy tunes.  That's it.  His time will pass, he isn't a legendary producer, rapper or whatever.  He was lucky to get his Grammy awards and he should be quite happy with that.  There have been tons of better artists in that genre over the past few years than Kanye.

And to lastly put it......Rhianna's video deserved that award.  I'm not into that style of music, but out of all those videos it was absolutely the best.

And bless Sarah Silverman for putting stupid cunts like Britney and Paris Hilton in their places.

I guess Kanye feels disrespected because his music is written and produced by HIMSELF whereas these other artists basically pay a big time producer to write them a hit and they just peform it.

Male Artist should go to the BEST ARTIST, not someone who basically sung someone elses song.

So I agree with him there.

I love the double standard. Axl Rose is beloved and worshipped to this day based a lot not only on his talent but the fact he never cared to say what he really felt. His onstage rants are legendary and a big part of his persona and image.

I use to hate Kanye but now I can't help it, I am starting to really dig the guy.

Also, Tommy was watching alicia Keys with P Diddy when Kid rock taps him on his shoulder, he gets up and Kid Rock sucker punches him and then when he went to retaliate, SECURITY GRABS TOMMY and Kid Rock lands another sucker punch while Tommy is being held.

Kid Rock is a pussy, He didnt even knock Tommy's hat off and Tommy had no marks.

Could u imagine how bad *slightly off topic* Vince Neil would hurt Kid Rock?  I mean he laid Izzy out with one punch and if anyone has ever fought, thats pretty fuckin hard to do.

I've never heard his music, but I don't mind someone speaking their mind, and I agree that we give FAR too much credit to these pop stars who can't write a lick of music.  I always have more respect for those who write their own material.

Yeah I agree, maybe its because everything else sucks right now, and he's the least worst, or maybe he is talented, but I respect him, although he is a bit cocky.

Didn't Tommy mess up Kid Rock in the bathroom so he couldnt perform onstage like was planned?
And about Vince, yeah...he broke a soundmixers nose on a solo-tour ?:P
