"Evil Urges" is a solid album.  After only 1.5 listens, I'm glad I picked it up, but damn, is "Highly Suspicious" a God-awful song.  Sorry, I can't buy into the "cutting edge" or "experimental" labels on this one, it's just bad.   "Touch Me I'm Going to Scream Pt. 1" is fantastic, though, as are most of the other tracks.  The few glorious missteps, however,  really take away from an otherwise great record...

I agree with you there.. i really like the album but it's definitely not perfect.  i have no idea why they choose some of the songs they do.
all in all i think i like all the tunes except for a couple.  they have a couple of solid rockers which i wasn't really expecting!!!
maybe they were all wasted when they did highly suspicious???

I think there's a really nice balance between the mellow tracks and the more rock-driven songs.  Pitchfork slaughtered the record, saying James had abandoned his lower-register vocals, but I can't say I agree...vocally, the songs are all pretty diverse.   I find myself playing the 70's rock, A.M. style songs on the album the most at this point ("Sec Walkin).  Still, "Highly Suspicious" doesn't exactly fit in anywhere, but maybe that was the point?
