Here Today... Gone To Hell!

 Jack Bruce, the bassist and lead singer of Cream, had some harsh words about Led Zeppelin following news of a possible reunion.

In an interview with Classic Rock Magazine, Bruce had this to say about Led Zeppelin, "Everybody talks about Led Zeppelin, and they played one fucking gig ? one fucking lame gig ? while Cream did weeks of gigs; proper gigs, not just a lame gig like Zeppelin did, with all the [vocal] keys lowered and everything. We played everything in the original keys. [Becoming animated]: Fuck off, Zeppelin, you?re crap. You?ve always been crap and you?ll never be anything else. The worst thing is that people believe the crap that they?re sold. Cream is 10 times the band that Led Zeppelin is."

He later added, "What? You?re gonna compare Eric Clapton with that fucking Jimmy Page? Would you really compare that?"

Harsh words considering the original question was about Cream possibly reuniting again like they did in 2005. On the plus side, he said they probably will. You can check out the full interview here.

Bruce later recanted his statements (well, sort of) on 94.7 WCSX, a Detroit radio station, saying, "I was just having some fun with the press gallery really? being fairly tongue in cheek. The thing about Zeppelin is obviously it's a little bit of jealousy on my part, or more than a little bit because the audience was created by Cream and Jimi Hendrix? this sort of very large audience? then Zeppelin came along and had a very easy ride in that way. We were the pioneers and pioneers don?t always get the recognition they deserve. On the other hand, let?s face it: Jimmy Page ain?t no Eric Clapton? no matter what anybody thinks." He adds, "The only decent guy? the one good guy in that band is dead? so what are you gonna do? The trouble is if you say anything about the establishment? In Britain you mustn?t criticise the Queen or Led Zeppelin." The full interview can be heard here.

I really don?t know what to make of this story. I mean, what do you say when a rock legend bashes other rock legends? All I can honestly think about right now is how awesome a bare-knuckle fight between Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page would be. Be honest, you?d pay to watch that.

I think people superly overrated LEd Zeppelin. Sure they are one of the greats but I don't think they are anywhere near being the be all, end all of rock bands.

There are several I'd easily take over LZ.

Eric Clapton bores me to tears.

yeah, now he is old and snoozy but back in the 70s when he was whacked out he was pretty good.

I feel like whacking my brains out when I hear his stupid ass songs on the radio.  Even Cream songs.

He's a skilled player, but his songs and his playing do absolutely nothing for me. 

Jack Bruce obviously has an ego as big as Clapton's.  What a terrible thing for Bruce to say.  He comes off as a small Jealous man.  Led Zep was on another planet.  Just listen to the songs they wrote. Cream was a great blues rock band, but no where near the level of led zep.  Page may not have been as precise as Clapton, but he played with his balls and I prefer his music.  Clapton is the most boring pussy ever.

I agree totally with this.  I think LZ is the WORST band ever.  My top 3 worst bands include  LZ, The Doors and the Beatles  They make me wanna vomit hearing any of them

he comes off sounding jealous...although Clapton IS a way better guitar player than Page...Page really wasnt all that great on guitar..I can list 40 guitarists better than him off the top of my head..but its not about how well you can play its about what you do with it...ask Kurt Cobain

Maybe his top 3 best bands are Creed, Limp Bizkit and Marilyn Manson.

Jimmy Page has the Stairway to Heaven solo on his resume among others, Cobain has what? A few power chords and static?

Me too, but saying Kurt Cobain is better than Jimmy freakin' Page is like saying one of the guitarists from Korn is better than Slash.

thats true..and its arguable that Kurt Cobain is a bigger legend than he is depending on who you ask...  The point was technical skill doesn't always equal greatness...Paul Gilbert for instance is 10 times the player Page ever was and he played for MR BIG!!!  So Jack Bruce talking about how much better Clapton is than Page on a technical level  doesnt really mean anything..

Page > Cobain.

Clapton > Cobain.

Now, Page and Clapton. Both guitar gods.
