Title: Paul Tobias appreciation thread
Post by: ShotgunBlues1978 on November 20, 2008, 06:58:58 PM
This is a guy who has had a ridiculous amount of trash talked about him, which I think is mainly due to the fact that Slash and Matt Sorum didn't like him

Axl said there would be no GnR today without Paul Tobias.  And guess what?  Paul is a co-writer of some of the best GnR songs in there are (in my opinion) with TWAT and Prostitute, and two other strong tracks off of CD with Catcher and IRS.  He also co-wrote Back Off Bitch, Shadow Of Your Love, and Oh My God.

Wow, maybe the guy has some songwriting ability.  Also have to note the irony in Matt Sorum, a replacement himself, who acting like he was a "real" bandmember but Paul was a fraud.  All this without a single GnR songwriting credit to his name.

Fair enough...

"Prostitute" is as good a GN'R song as there ever was...

Here's to Paul!  :peace:

Anyone else find it funny that Pitman helped write Madgascar and not Reed?

Yeah.  Mr. Tobias has definitely been underestimated.

Anyone else find it funny that Pitman helped write Madgascar and not Reed?

Why is this funny? ???

I always hoped Paul would get back on stage with GN'R. He was pretty cool in RIR3.

Because Reed is the one who plays the majority of the keyboards, including all the French Horns. He starts it off.

According to Pitman, Axl created the French horn intro, Dizzy just plays it live

It's very cool of Paul to thank "everyone who auditioned.." we all know paul kinda saved gnr and i think one reason is that he got axl to audition guitarplayers, drummers everything, keep on going to find the right ones and everything

good work man, oh yeah you wrote a couple of good songs too :)

Do we know why Paul isn't member of the band? It's his choice?

^I think it was something about not coping with the touring schedule or just not enjoying touring gnerally.

I'm sure someone has a less vague answer than that.

According to Axl:
"Paul helped us a lot in the writing and the recording of this record and to me was a vital part of not only the band but also my life. The world tour really wasn?t his cup of tea whereas he's much more comfortable in a studio setting. We?re fortunate to have found Richard who has this vibe kind of like Izzy but with amazing feel."

Paul Tobais aka Paul Huge is a great song writer.  I know true fans would like to see him play like, he did have a cool stage presence like the previous post above said. Richard, Paul and BBF would be pretty bad ass

paul = best gnr guitarist ever.  not only is he great friends with axl, but he also knows how to write songs.  i'd dare say even better than izzy stradlin.  these new songs he wrote are easiliy the best and most epic songs guns n' roses has ever sang.  now that robin's gone, hopefully paul will come back home to gnr where he belongs.  his songs are setting the world on fire.  he deserves to be a part of the happening.

Obviously Paul helped Axl out when he was at what seemed to be his lowest point, and for that we all owe him our thanks. I've never been too worried about this "controversy", I understand where Slash was coming from, for the lead guitar player in a band, he wants to have a say in what goes on with the guitars, and if he felt like he couldn't work with Tobias, that was his right. At the same time, Paul was an old friend of Axl's who helped him through some tough times and in the songwriting department, so it was his right to want to have him around at that time.

Only thing that confused me was why he left after the band got going, but I guess he just didn't want to get involved with a hectic tour schedule, which is entirely his right as well.
