Title: Pukkelpop 2011 Disaster
Post by: The Prez on August 19, 2011, 05:53:52 PM
Didn't notice there is already a thread about this one but yesterday evening a huge 'surprise' weather storm broke loose for about 10-15mins, during a performance of Skunk Anansie. (top of the bill was Foo Fighters that evening)
The storm blew some trees down but also a 'dance hall' and 2 other stages collapsed.

Result: 5 people dead and still 10 people fighting for their lives. 50 people injured but in the 'safe zone'...
The 4 days festival has been cancelled.

Just wanted to express my respect to the victims and hopefully some fellow GN'R fans will do the same.

It's a festival which I have done already several times...

in 2002 Guns was a headliner....

Damn that sucks. Same thing happened here last weekend in Indiana. 5 people dead. Weather is nothing to mess around with.

Yes, saw some footage on the news about the stage collapsing in Indiana...Shit, and my reaction that moment 'I hope this never happens on a festival that I attend'... and then few days later it happens on a festival here, which I very often do and this year decided not...

I remember when a huge storm hit the festival area during Sonisphere, Pori 2010.. I was working on the second stage, putting M?tleys shit together and getting ready for Iggy Pop. That never happened, the stage was destroyed in 30secs. Very scary stuff, I don't think I have never run that fast anywhere before :/

Always very sad when things like this happen. I wonder how they don't seem to take these weather things seriously.. the guys who build the stage in Pori were joking about it, like it was a thing to play with. Blaeh.

We had part of the stage collapse in Rio de Janeiro last year. Scary.

The fact that we were delayed to arrive in Rio made everything delayed, which eventually meant that no concert goers were present when the structures collapsed....

Then there was a canceled show because of an unsafe stage in Costa Rica.

It's not really something to joke about.
