I know this is official, but man I'm chomping at the bit for an announcement on GNR's site or the joint.  Mainly because I want to see if they will have any packages, etc.

I need to find a way to be there, because I MUST be there.

Remember what Richard Fortus said in that interview a couple of months ago. After the tour (europe) they will do some recording, try to complete the new record and and tour the US again... Looks like that theyr plan is working out fine :)

It depends.. If there is a new album coming out in the near future, i guess there is a chance for a new song or two.. a bit too early to say anything about theyr plans yet, but i hope we will get more info on this soon. But if the plans Fortus mentioned is going well, i actually think there is a good chance for new material.

I'm sure this is a welcome gig in some respects for Ron, to do a residency and not have to travel.  

I was originally planning a Vegas trip for the beginning of October. Seeing as GN'R is going to be there in the beginning of November, I may just change my trip to there since it isn't booked yet and it'll be the same price.

This is AWESOME news, first time GN'R have done anything like this really, 12 shows at the same venue. I flew to Vegas from the UK in 2006, to see GN'R 2 times at the old Joint, and it was amazing. Would love to go to this, I'm SOOOOOO tempted, GN'R in Vegas is one of the best things you can experience.  :drool:

I went in Feb when Motley Crue did a residency there, I went for a week and saw 4 of the shows! One of the best trips of my life, but the whole I was thinking "Imagine if this was Guns N Roses!!!!"

When Motley did their thing this past Feburary, the entire Hard Rock was "Motley"......everywhere you looked. I can't wait to see what they do with Gn'R!

I will be at the Halloween show and November 2nd and 3rd. I am wearing a cute Halloween costume for the Halloween show! I think I will stand on the floor for Halloween and balcony for the other 2. I am so glad that I booked my hotel and airfare on Saturday!

I was also thinking about this.  I really hope so.  Would love to see a true pro video, maybe some backstage stuff.

I love how the poster looks BTW, it really does give the impression of the Appetite / Democracy, combination. But I must admit, I am surprised by the use of the "Appetite" artwork by Axl and GN'R, at one point in time, this would have seemed impossible regarding Nu GN'R. It was all about looking forward, and concentrating on whats ahead and THAT only.

Now it seems like Axl is at a point where he can celebrate past achievements without feeling like it is counter-productive to any upcoming project...

Hopefully they'll playing material that they haven't played since the original line-up. As much as I would love to hear new material, I doubt Axl will take the risks again of us "downloading motherfuckers" bootlegging the shows. Which I completely understand, and it is easy to give the wrong impression when debuting new material live without the audience having the chance to listen to the finished article.

I am beyond pumped for this. I am getting ready to relocate to Vegas and this is perfect timing. I think these shows will be awesome!!

As for the comment that the shows might not sell well we will just have to wait and see. Ticket sales do not equal how good a show is and won't really stop me from enjoying seeing my favorite band live: GUNS N ROSES! I for one hope they all sell well but would like some tickets to be available for each show as I don't yet know which ones I can commit to going to.

Hey there.  Are you selecting the $250 package?  If so, that is the orchestra seating which sounds like it would be closer but is not.  When I select the $225 package it just goes straight to the cart and indicates general admission.  Also of note is that it indicates tickets available at will call which hopefully avoids some of the fiasco from NY.  Those concerts were fun though!

So, I asked someone I know that works at the local rock radio station KOMP 92.3 if they were signed on as the radio sponsor and if there were going to be promos ect, all he said was they weren't sure yet. The morning show mentions the residency briefly, because they're giving away tickets, but that's about it. The DJ after the morning show doesn't mention it at all, even today when they play two from Gn'R in a row. I know KOMP was Motley's radio sponsor, so they talked it up CONSTANTLY, to the point of being annoying. I guess if they're not gettin' paid it's not worth their breath. I hope they get signed on, then they'll give away lots more tickets and play them a lot more on the air.

For anyone familiar with the joint...for seats on the balcony is row J the first row? Cause that's the best available for all of the shows right now for the presale. Just wondering if row J is the first row or if they're holding rows A-I for the actual on sale date? Thanks.

A is the first row....I've never liked how Ticketmaster does things. The "Best Available" option doesn't mean shit. 

So the closer seats should be available Friday morning?

I just tried and got Row H, 8th row. You'll get a good view no matter where....the only thing I don't recommend is the GA on the third floor....not bad if your on the rail, but sucks if there's someone in front of you since you're essentially looking down on the band.

I'm getting my ticket for the 11-24 show tomorrow.  Can't wait always wanted to see my favorite band in Vegas ! hope to meet all of you there.  Should I get GA or Balcony seats ? what's better ?

GA's better. They don't over sell the place like a lot of venue's do. On new years, I walked into both shows about 5 minutes before they took the stage and was able to catch a bunch of DJ's pics....and you know a guitar pic doesn't fly that far, lol.

But the seating chart shows it as having "Standing Room Only" being behind the orchestra section doesn't it?

Appetite for Democracy i'm thinking of a setlist from AFD to Chinese... don't think we will hear new music, but probably some Lies, UYI maybe some Spagetti Incident  :hihi: so jacked up, alot of jager and booze that night.

Also, how does the meet and greet work? I trying to figure out what flight I am going to take in, and im probably going to land the day of the show?

Maybe it goes on sale when the general on sale starts?

thought I would throw in my two cents along with some questions for Jarmo or whoever else can answer.

When I first heard the announcement I was pretty excited about the chance to fly to Vegas (from Miami) to see GNR. But upon thinking about it some more, I'm not too sure about wanting to make the trip and spend the money for what could potentially be the same show/set list as they have been doing for the past year. This is not a knock on the band, just whether or not I would personally want to make the trip.

On the other hand, If I do make the trip im thinking about Nov 9-10 with the 12th being my birthday and that day is a holiday so a good day to travel back home. I'm also thinking about getting GA tickets and at least one night VIP Package.

Question: how does the VIP meet and greet work? Assuming the meet and greet happens before the show, after the meet and greet is over what happens? Do they let you into the arena (GA, balcony, etc) before others do? Do they make you go outside and get in line? When I saw them for UCAP I waited outside for hours to get a good spot up in front of the stage. I'm worried I wouldn't get the chance to be that close here...

I don't think it will be the same show (set list) as it states in the promo.  If it is.... I don't care it's Guns N' Roses  :beer:

you have to go gunsnroses.com and purchase the VIP Package. It is NOT a fan club thing. Just go to the website, click on tickets at the top, choose which VIP package you want from the list of shows and thats it.

I wonder if the stuff that comes with the vip package is given to you at the meet and greet to get it signed and stuff or if you need to bring it or what? It probably won't affect my decision to purchase but I'm a stickler for details.

Wow, i'm all set for Halloween and 11/2-11/3. This will be my 16th-18th show. Kinda crazy growing up and thinking I'd never see my favorite band, now I've seen them all over the country and world. Last year's Vegas shows were amazing -- can't wait to see the Hard Rock all GNR'd out -rock!! :beer:

Well the VIP laminate you will get there on site from teh Ground Control employee.  The lithograph will most likely be mailed to you.  I think for the NY shows it arrived beforehand, but not by much.  And this is all if things are the same as last time but of course the logistics could be quite different this time.  I know you can call GroundControl.  They are pretty good about answering.

Completely unrelated but if gnr tour England again I'd love to see a gig in the royal Albert hall. Saw the cult there a while back and it was awesome.

Haven't seen them in Vegas since I was there Dec. 29, 2001.  I heard they changed/expanded "The Joint"..is this true?  I loved how small it was before, not sure about how it looks now.  Anyone been in it since the re-model?  Was it re-modeled?  I hope this goes with a NEW ALBUM plan!

Yes, it's completely new. The space where the old Joint was is now more casino space. (They also added two new Hotel towers) The New Joint is twice as big. It doesn't seem like it though. The Stage is bigger, and can handle a much larger production, and there are now three levels. At first, I was mad they changed it, but that was all put to rest. It's is a bit bigger, but also better. My favorite venue in town, if not the country.

I just got my VIP tickets!  Should I bring any of my GnR vinyls to get signed?!

How do these VIP's usually work.  Do you just stand in line and they sit at a table or do you usually mill around a room? I can't wait. This is going to be a great show.  I'm not looking up any setlists before I go.  I want to be surprised!

I think it'll be organized so everybody gets a chance to get stuff signed and a photo.

Anyone can tell me what's the difference between Orchesta seating tickets and GA? which one will get this ass closer to the front row?

Orchestra seating gets you a ticket in a seat (behind the GA section).

GA floor standing room is closest to the stage.

Is there a difference between the GA seats and the reserved floor seats in section 101 and 102?

For anyone who's been in the balcony seats...I have seats in section 402 and I'm just wondering how good or bad they are?

Hard Rocks website has a section for The Joint were you can look at the seating chart.  I think section 402 is way in the back... not 100 percent sure.

I am very curious about the set list.  I will be honest, I have seen the latest set list 5 times... and I would not give a shit if I saw it again.  However, it would be great to see something different.  I would love to see some more songs from UYI I or some more songs of CD since the current band put so much into those songs. 

Besides individual songs, are there any "themes" that people want to see? IE albums you want to see songs from or perhaps playing an entire album front to back?

GN'R doing something like this is unexpected, very cool indeed. I got to see the band at the old joint 2 times back in 2006. The venue has changed since then, but I'm guessing it's still intimate. I would like to see Riad and OMG for sure, why not they deserve to be played. Would like to hear more of TWAT and Catcher as well, seeing as they are rarely played currently.

It will be cool how this whole residency is set up, with the HRH being GnR themed, as well as it being Vegas and how crazy it will get.  I'm not so concerned about the set-list cause I pretty much love every song, I just wish I could make more than one show.  For me this is a once in a lifetime event... If anyone is on the fence about not going cause of the same set-list as the last legs of the tour, your going to miss something special.  Get tix and go ! or you will regret it.

If there is anyone planning on going to one or more shows from the UK, can you give me a shout please.

Crunching the numbers and pretty optimistic about getting out to Vegas, would be cool to swap plan ideas.

I'm just going by what I've read online about it... not 100% sure.

I've seen gnr quite a few times, but the last time was at the end of 2009 during their Canadian tour, so I've never seen them perform civil war and don't cry...2 of my all time favorites. So I really hope those 2 songs remain a constant in the setlist. As for the setlist as a whole I personally hope it stays the same because since they added estranged, civil war and don't cry I think it's the perfect setlist. The only change I would make is take out Madagascar and put in TWAT! I don't normally say this living in Canada but can summer hurry up and be over so November can be here as quick as possible!

I think it would be great if they added a few songs from Illusions and CD but switched up the setlist every other night.  I think a lot of us die-hards will be going to multiple shows. 

Does anyone know how ticket sales are going so far?

I remember going to the show at the "old" joint on Dec. 29, 2001 in GA and have done General Admission almost everytime since, but this time I noticed the joint offers VIP tables for this event, in which I reserved a table with four chairs. They are only about 35-40 more per ticket to get a table. The only thing I'm worried about is the view of the concert, or where the tables are placed it won't sound or look as good from that vantage point. Has anyone ever done something like this or know anything about the joint and the VIP Section 305 area..I hear its great, but would love to hear some opinions on the matter. THANK YOU in advance!

You'll be fine. The tables are located right against the rail, so you won't have to worry about anyone being in front of you. So you'll be really close, just kinda looking down on the stage. The only place I don't recommend is on the third level on the other side from where you are. There's no tables there, it's just GA, so unless your on the rail, you can't see anything because of the people in front of you. I got stuck with that once for a different show, and I couldn't see a thing..luckily they had a bar up there so I just drank and listened. Haha.

I don't think so. I think each "seat" at a table is treated as exactly that. You can get two seats at a table, but then you'll be sitting at the same table with people you don't know.

I just looked for a table on ticketmaster, and yeah, it appears there's 4 seats to a table, and your table is assigned, but your seat is not. It's first come first serve. So if there's two of you, make sure you get there before the other two people.

Anyone have any suggestions on where to buy airfare?  How is everyone paying for roundtrip tickets?  I am coming from Louisville, KY and everything is over $400.00 for roundtrip airfare.  Thank you in advance.

I looked and looked, couldn't find anything cheap. Even checked cities somewhat close. The cheapest I found was $330 out of Indianapolis, but I suppose the two hour dive each way isn't worth the $70. Sign up for www.airfarewatchdog.com. You put your location in, then a couple times a week you'll get an email with the lowest fares and deals/promotions the airlines are running. Fares change constantly, so just keep looking. Buy on a Tuesday or Wednesday too.

I was searching high and low for good deals from Canada but everything was between 400 and 500 bucks and I was getting a bit frustrated...but then I remembered about my airmiles that I've never used. Turns out I had enough saved for 2 round trips. And as far as hotels, the cheapest I could find was Excalibur...super cheap prices compared to everywhere else I checked. Would've loved to stay at the hard rock but excalibur's prices were just to good to pass up. Plus they're the only hotel that keeps their entire pool with all of it's services open through the winter months...just an extra bonus.

Check out Bills Gambling Hall and Flamingo.  They should have cheap rates, Excalibur will charge u a resort fee each night you stay.  I'm staying at Flamingo and they don't charge resort fees.  My hotel was a little over 150 but I'm going Thanksgiving weekend.  Cab fare may be more then say Excalibur but it beats the resort fees MGM properties charge.

If you're looking for airfare+hotel+car I would recommend Expedia. I have been going to Vegas for job interviews and staying for a few days checking out houses too. My combined package is usually under $500 from Portland. Orbitz and Travelocity are also good places to check out for prices. Vegas.com is killer too.

Also, Downtown hotels are cheaper and you have the Fremont Experience, STREATS, First Friday, Rock of Ages is coming.... I recommend the Plaza Hotel and Casino as well as the El Cortez. If you want more glitz on the main part of the strip I can say the LVH, Flamingo, Cosmopolitan and Trump are really nice and you can walk to tons of things.

VEGAS RESIDENCY STARTS NOW!

I checked the flamingo and for the 5 nights that we're there and after the $15 per day resort fee at the Excalibur, the flamingo works out to be a total of $5 cheaper or $1 per night.

Definitely stay downtown. So much more fun, so much cheaper. Whenever I have friends or family come into town, I try my hardest to talk them out of going to the strip.

For those of you coming in for Gn'R and don't plan on going anywhere else, Terrible'S Hotel and Casino is right across the street from the Hard Rock, and much cheaper.

I got so lucky on Thursday.  KOMP 92.3, the local rock station in Las Vegas, gave out  a pair of tickets and I won. 

If you get off the strip prices for hotels drop significantly. I had a friend who stayed for less than $50 a night. Last December 2011 to see GNR on 12.31 the wife and I stayed in Springhill Suites by Marriot on Paradise Rd., a short walk to Hard Rock Hotel and the Joint. Point is: get off the strip to save big bucks.

Every Thursday they go to a different location for lunch and give tickets away.  They were at some BBQ place near LV blvd/Warm Springs.  I was the 3rd one picked and was shocked the frist 2 people didn't get them.  They only had 1 pair.

We just got tickets for the nov 14th and 17th shows!!!My wife and I were planning on going to Vegas anyway that weekend and it just so happens that our 5 year wedding anniv. is on the the 17th! Not a bad way to celebrate the day! This is our first time to Vegas as well, should be a memorable one!

Same here. We were already gonna go back to Vegas in the beginning of October, but just moved it to the first week in November instead. We got tickets to the November 7th show! We're staying at our favorite place we already stay at which is real close to the Hard Rock anyways.

Depends on when you're flying. Say you just want to go to the Halloween show. . . fly out of Louisville on the 30th and return on the 1st. That's running at $360 right now. Not much less than $400, but $40 is $40.

I appreciate the quick responses.  I checked/compared airfare(s) today and they actually WENT UP!  They are anywhere from $440.00 to over $500.00 for that particular weekend Nov 22-Nov 26 from Louisville, KY to Las Vegas.  Do guys think I should wait?  How will I know when airfare is the cheapest? 

One thing that helps me get the lowest airfare is by having several tabs open on different travel sights and going through each of them at the same time. I would get Expedia, Travelocity, Vegas.com, and cheaptickets.com all open and see who gives you the best. I have saved a few hundred bucks doing it this way. Weird how places offering the same flight can have such big price differences.

Also remember certain Airlines aren't listed in in the travel sites. Like Southwest and Allegiant for example.

I'm flying out of Allegiant and i'm paying under 200 bucks for round trip air fare.

Round trip and two nights at the hard rock is about $600 each for 2 people. I would do VIP one night and regular the next, but can't convince anyone to make the trip.....

Got my tickets in the mail yesterday... 2 tickets GA for 10/31 Halloween show!  I was wondering if GA is right up front why aren't those the most expensive tickets.... there's no section between GA and the stage correct?  Also what time do you think would be best to show up?  I arrived in Atlanta GA back in November with Ga tickets at 5ish and was like 40th in line and got myself front row GA.  I'm planning on wearing my Axl outfit and dressing up since it's Halloween... anybody else wearing a costume?

I guess it depends on the venue. Sometimes the actual seats are more expensive because then you get a seat to sit in and you're guaranteed a good view.

With GA, you might end up further back behind some tall person... ;)

It's actually not that uncommon for really good seats to be more expensive than GA. At least that's what I've found from my time on the road. It makes sense really but I always can't resist the unpredictability of GA. And if the old Joint was anything to go by, getting a bad view is next to impossible... Just stay away from tall people. :confused:

Is the Joint camera friendly?  I was able to get some great pictures and videos when I saw them in Atlanta back in November and hope to do the same from Vegas.

I think you might be confusing things.

The GN'R VIP package is for people who actually bought a GN'R VIP package. They get merchandise, access to a Meet & Greet with band members and a ticket to the show.

The logistics of that are handled by Ground CTRL.



The guestlist is for the bands family and friends.

Yeah I know, I was just thinking that after you bought the VIP package, it would be added to some guest list or something. What I asked them was "Do you guys sell upgrades for VIP if I already have a ticket?" and the guy said "let me see... ... ... no I looked on the site and it doesn't look like we have that available yet, it might be available soon but I don't really know."

I'm curious as to what time they'll go on. Just found it interesting that the weekday shows are listed at 9, and the others at 10. Not that I care, the later starts don't bother me one bit, I just don't want to be late myself. Over New Years I managed to show up 5 minutes before showtime and got great spots up front. One part of me says all the shows are gonna start at the same time regardless what the ticket says, but then a tiny part thinks the Hard Rock talked them into a schedule. I suppose I'll just show up according to the ticket time on Halloween and plan the rest of the shows around that.

Also, was wondering about the "VIP Party Room" ......is an open bar included in that? I was lucky enough to get after show passes for a couple shows on the last tour, and they just had soda. (The only reason I ask is, for the (over) price of drinks at the Hard Rock....the VIP package could be worth that price just in booze if it's available.

NY UCAP shows - no drinks, no food, no M+G, no VIP room

Vegas 12/30/11 show - supposed to get 2 tickets for free drinks (one free drink per ticket), but they gave us 4 if I remember correctly because hardly anyone came, the only food was cheese and crackers, the VIP room was very plain, the M+G took place in another room that was quite nice

Vegas 12/31/11 show - 2 tickets for free drinks (there was a lot of people this night), the VIP room was the M+G room from the night before (really nice), the food was great

Overall the VIP experience has been interesting.  For the NY shows it was great because it was winter time and they allowed early access.  So basically you showed up 15 minutes before the doors opened, they let you in and you got right up front, and I am talking against the rail here for every show.  But for the Ritz show it was a bit chaotic to say the least, however I don?t see this being an issue with the Vegas shows.

Now for the Vegas shows things were a bit different.  From what I recall there was no early entry, you were let in the same time as everyone else, but at least you were amongst the first people going in.  Still no guarantee of rail though if you wanted to get a drink, go to the bathroom, get a shirt, etc.  The real problem was the M+G occurred during Bach?s set.  Not only did you miss Bach, but you had to give up your spot too.  For the first night the M+G was much more relaxed since there was maybe ten of us.  It was more like mingling with the band members for a while and then doing a picture at the end.  You were allowed to bring in one item to get signed.  The 2nd night was similar, but there was no mingling since there were so many of us.  When the M+G was ready to happen we all left the VIP room.  Then 10 of us were called in at a time to get one item signed and take pics.  Definitely not an open bar though.  Of course, this could all be quite different this time.  Hope this helps!

Cool, thanks! I doubt I'll to a VIP, since I can pay for 2.5 shows for the same price, and money is an issue. But if for some reason I can't make all the shows, I'll maybe try it out with the saved money, providing there's any left. (I really just want the laminate :) )

Do you still have to pay all the same extra charges through www.gunsnroses.com as you do through ticketmaster?  I'd imagine so, but just wondering.

Cameras were allowed for the NYE shows, but again, that doesn't necessarily mean they will be for these shows.

Often people were allowed to bring cameras, but not always allowed to use them. ;)


Everybody else has to wait while somebody figures out why their camera isn't working as it should.

Same thing with getting things signed. You have to find the right page, have the right colored pen etc....

Sometimes it's something you verbally inform the people attending. So it's not a case of seeing them. ;)


But, speaking from a logical point of view, signing an album sleeve takes a lot less time than flicking through pages in a book or booklet looking for the proper page to sign.....

Is anyone staying at the Hard Rock, or at another place? I'm debating staying at the Las Vegas Hotel (formally the Hilton), its about $300 cheaper. For two nights plus airfare at the LVH its around 550, for 2 nights at the HRH is around 850

I've stayed at the LVH (Hilton) before... it was about $10 ride to the Hard Rock (if I remember right...).

There's the monorail thing you can take to the strip and what not which is cool, the LVH is just a bit out of the way.

The room we had was nothing special, just your basic room but nothing terrible.... and this was before the renovation/name change.

Theres a La Quinta Inn up Paradise Road that is mapquested at 1 minute from the HRH. This might be a good option and it's also the cheapest  :beer:

Im staying at Las Vegas Super 8 which is .7 miles from Hard Rock, I just need a bed won't be there much, but I got air and hotel from Nove8-11 from JFK, 465$. And .7 miles is walking distance, I walk more here in the city daily.. :beer: ;D

The Excalibur is $35 during the week and $85 on the weekend for either 2 queens or 1 king. Plus full pool service year round.

The Excalibur is close as far as hotels on the strip go. It's about a 15-20 minute walk from the strip to the hard rock...so I'd say about a half hour walk or 3 minute cab ride.

I'm staying at the same place I always stay in Las Vegas. It's a place called Terrible's and it's less than a mile from the The Joint. They're always ultra cheap and it's a decent place. Clean, good size rooms, nice little gaming floor, easy access to everywhere you need to get in Vegas, etc.. For those interested, here's their website:

What is the deal with navigating your way round Vegas? Are we talking cabs everywhere? If so, are they reasonably priced and do you need to tip?!!

I remember in Canada 2010, you needed to tip for everything! This was a shock for me coming from a country with no customer service culture.

If you're staying on the strip, you'd be best off taking a cab over to the Hard Rock.  You COULD walk it, but it's a bit of a hike.  However, it's not so far, so a cab ride is reasonably priced.  It's been awhile, but I'd say it's no more than a 10 minute ride WITH traffic, and there's plenty of that in Vegas.  And yes, you should tip at least a few bucks.  It won't break the bank though.

Yeah it's a hell of a deal. I've been staying there for about 10 years now. It doesn't have all the glitz and glamour that the strip hotels have but it doesn't need to. It's got clean, good sized rooms, a nice little casino, a couple of good bars, a good sized pool, etc.



As others are saying, tipping is customary for cabs in Las Vegas. As I mentioned above, you could just get a cheap room there and it's about a half mile (3 minute) walk to the Hard Rock.

Just make sure the cab driver doesn't bring you the "LONG" way. :)

That's true in most places....

You get some "sightseeing" because the cab driver says there's traffic or something.

On another note, does the VIP  Party room usually get packed?

I stayed at The Comfort Inn when I visited Las Vegas in 2006 to see GN'R 2 times. It's a great no frills small apartment complex, which was literally right across the road from the Hard Rock. I honestly don't know if it's still there, but it was cheap, clean and within 2 mins walking distance from the venue.  8)

Booked my hotel for 11/24 show... i'm staying on the Strip at Bills Gambling Hall.  Got a real good deal as its mid strip and its under 50 bucks the first night ! counting down the days till I see Guns in Vegas.

I've never stayed there but have friends that have. Great location as you said and I bet it'll be cool to see that last 11/24 show!

I stayed at Bills a few years ago. Its not the nicest hotel but its in a great location and Bills casino is one of my favorites

Just booked my hotel, air, and tix for 11/21 and 11/23. Staying at the Hard Rock. Got an outrageous deal from SW Air. Cannot fucking wait. Saw them 12/31/11 and it was the best night of my life. I am so excited!!!

Alright it's booked ! Will land in Vegas 3:30 pm on 11/9 and fly out 11/11 at 6 AM !! Staying at Terrible's saving about $140 instead of staying at the Hard Rock, Mapquest has it at .28 miles away ... walking distance !!!

I paid about $676, for flight and two nights .... I went with Southwest because they offered non stop direct flights. I could've went cheaper but there would be stops in between.

How's the casino at Terrible's ? Are you doing VIP for Friday ?

Casino is small but decent. Depends on what you're looking for. They have a ton of slots, mostly newer video slots and a small selection of table games that are very cheap to play on.

We're going to the Wednesday 11/07 show and not doing VIP, just general admission.

Yeah originally I wanted to do a weekend show or two, but for a variety of reasons I ended up having to go during the week so I'm at least glad there's a Wednesday option for me.

The SW deal I got gave me one night free at Hard Rock, so I can get drunk and not have to walk anywhere after the show. The total for airfare and 3 nights was $635, including all air fees and taxes. I consider that to be an outrageously good price, given the fact that the wife and I were considering going to Vegas in December and airfare alone was over $600 per person. The SW sale is going on until 9/13 (at least in the Dallas market).

Why isn't tommy on the posters? It goes Frank, Dj, Chris, Axl, Ron, Richard and Dizzy...but no Tommy??? I noticed that he wasn't on the elevator poster either.

Not surprised at all at how this looks. If you've ever been to Vegas (or a related 'entertainment town'/casino complex/etc ), then you'll have such a multi-platform of advertising. This is standard in Vegas. Looks like they went top-shelf plastering promo everywhere, not just a billboard or two on the Strip.

Curious to know what Robert Williams got from licensing his art for this (although doubting such details would get released). Wasn't he a bit sour on the licensing the first time around? Maybe time and a lot of $ heals....

How did you upgrade to the Hard Rock?  Are you just going to Hard Rock's website and booking your room through that or are you doing a package deal with a flight and hotel?  I just don't know what option to take and it is expensive as hell to fly out of Louisville, KY.  I appreciate any advice.  I have tickets to the 11/24 show.  Thanks!

Southwest has package deals to Vegas for cheap. You can choose from a variety of hotels, including Hard Rock. Sale ends 9/13.

It's cool you got to switch for cheap. My thing with hotels in Vegas is that I'm just not in my room enough to care about amenities or whatever. As long as the place is safe and I can pass out for a while between drinking binges, I'm good  :hihi:

I won't be in the room much either, aside from sleeping all day on Saturday. I plan on partying all night after the show !!!

I have a room at the Flamingo already, which makes it seem a little harder to find a good deal on a roundtrip flight from Louisville, KY to Vegas from Nov. 22 to Nov. 26.  I plan on staying out there for a few days.  Anyone have any other ideas on finding at least somewhat of a cheap flight for this time?  I'll buy you a drink or two if you help me out and I see you there, lol.  Thanks again.

I suggest flying out of a relatively small airport. I'm flying out of Syracuse, NY for $175 whereas it probably would have been close to $400 to fly out of Toronto.

In 2006 when I went to Vegas, I got my photo taken in front of the GN'R display. It had Axl's blue HOB jacket, and also had his cowboy hat and kilt. Is this still there as well?, if so where is this in relation to this stand?.

No, that displays been gone for awhile now. Right before New Years, they had a huge Axl display set up right outside the Joint. That stayed until a few months ago, when they remodeled again. When I was there yesterday, there's a huge empty spot right outside the Joint, opposite where that other one was. I'm guessing they'll fill that with Gn'R stuff. The display in the pic is located right inside the front doors coming in from valet....the circle bar is right behind this.

It's also worth noting that EVERY employee in the place are wearing Gn'R shirts. The front have the rape scene promo, and the back say "staff" and something else, I think the dates.

If I was gonna be there I'd totally be down for this.  Have fun!  If that's too far for you, check out Valley of Fire State Park.  Pretty awesome place.

Depends on what you want to do, here's some stuff we've done over time:

The roller coaster at New York, New York right on the strip
Zip line on Fremont Street in downtown Vegas
Shoot machine guns at any number of places
Go to Insert Coin (a classic arcade / bar on Fremont Street)
Madame Tussauds Wax Museum is near The Venetian
All the rides on The Stratosphere (which now includes the ability to jump off of it)
Eli Roth's Goretorium is opening on the strip some time in September so I haven't been there but it looks pretty cool and I wanna go in November.

As far as I know, all the surrounding towns (Jean, Henderson, etc) pretty much offer the gambling, shopping and stuff you'll find on the strip.

I read on someone's twitter...maybe Eli Roth's that Dj has been doing a lot of work on the goretorium. Seems like it would be right up DJ's alley! Anyone know if this is true? It sounds like quite the place!!

Haha, I brought my mom there for mothers day. It's VERY generic for a Mini Golf Course.....you'd think with a budget like Kiss', they could afford something much more exciting.

I actually went and played there, for my friends Bachelor party.  It's really fun ! I suggest anyone who goes to the GnR shows to check it out.  Right across the street from the Hard Rock Hotel.

Tickets are available to any of the shows I tried. I really don't think any show will sell out. This is good for those of us who don't have funds yet. I'll be living in Vegas when they start the residency and plan on going to as many as possible.

I'll be living in Paradise Palms right on the golf course about 8 min away. Relocating to Vegas couldn't have had better timing  :) I think the shows will be very packed before GNR hits the stage but I think day of you will still be able to get gen admission tickets and others. I'd actually like to sit down this time around. I've always been on the floor for Guns so it'd be different for me. If some sell out I'll resort to buying from a scalper though I despise doing that. I'm going one way or the other ;D

Vagas is a popular tourist destination, so would say the "have to leave early to go get up for work" reasons for not going probably not count, particularly if people are wanting a break from gambling.     That said, could still run a book on what time they hit the stage... ;)

Obviously weekends are bigger, but I guess weekdays will attract a different crowd....

I myself prefer Vegas trips to be Sunday - Thursday so I was super excited to be able to attend a Wednesday show.

A LOT of people come here during the week. Airfare, rooms, everything is cheaper.

They don't or anywhere close for that matter..sucks.  I guess I will jump the gun tomorrow morning and get some tickets.  I just heard that around 6 weeks is the best time to buy, but all they seem to go is go up, even if you leave on Thanksgiving day.

It's holds around 4 thousand people. So around 48 thousand tickets in total. I suppose a lot of Vegas tourists may just buy tickets when they are there..

Orbitz's lowest rt flight is running @ $241.

Or, book directly through the airline's website. Delta is running about $340 rt SDF to/from LAS 11/20 through 11/27. Southwest is running about $415 rt same schedule. American is running $250 rt same route. Just remember these are the el cheapo no-refund economy tickets which may or may not include baggage fees. And each flight will probably have 1+ stops.

What?  How lame - I wanted one too - seems like they are missing out on profits and making fans happy.  Hopefully they will have them once the shows start.  I missed out on a European t-shirt this summer - by the time I went to see them they didn't have my size in the only female style shirt they even had.  Total fail in the merch dept if you ask me.

I'm sure closer/during the shows there will be plenty of merch available. Just not quite yet. :)

Two questions:

1 - I bought a VIP ticket, which will be at Will Call when I go, but for the 10th I bought a balcony ticket ... will that one be shipped or will call also?

2 - Way off topic .... but has anyone ever been to the Pink Taco in the Hard Rock ? I love Mexican food  :beer:

They say will call for VIP.  I think what they mean though is that someone who works for Ground Control will have an area set up to meet you guys, and that will most likely be somewhere in the vicinity of the box office/will call area.  You're doing the meet and greet?  I'd imagine the balcony ticket would be mailed.  What's cool is that it doesn't really matter since it's an actual seat.  You could show up 5 miutes before the show and be fine, whereas if you had to pick up a general admission ticket you would have to show up early (if you wanted to be in front anyways).

As for the pink taco, or we talking metaphorically or literally?  lol.  I have been there and it is good!  And it's open real late even after the concert.  Sweet!

I bought GA tickets and they are will call only. I wonder if all tickets sold by gnr.com are will call only unless you buy them from ticketmaster then they mail it to you

We're two behind you in E.  In Atlantic City the after-show party passes were handed out to the VIP line just prior to (early) entry.

What was the after show party like ?

Pink Taco, while good, still very over priced and mediocre tacos passed off as "Authentic".....There's HUNDREDS of places here to get the good stuff. Look for the dirtiest hole in the wall place, it'll be cheap, but GREAT!. Try Tacos El Compita #3. Haha. I love that place. 

I'm hoping for Robin show's up and play some songs in Vegas, at least Better.

I'll volunteer myself as a source. I've been to Vegas a TON since 2004 including having been there twice since last September and I'll be there again in the first week of November for GN'R.

If you or anyone else have questions on Vegas, feel free to ask here or via PM.

I live exactly 5 miles down the road from the Hard Rock. If anyone has any questions at all, don't hesitate to message me! (We'll try to keep that stuff out of this thread.)

For a start though. There's plenty of cool/free things that are must sees for the first timer. The Fountains at Bellagio is probably the coolest on the strip. Also, Freemont Street is a MUST SEE. Go at night, on an off show day. The canopy provides amazing light shows, everything's closer together, and the people watching alone is worth the trip. I always tell my visitors from out of town to forget the Strip, and go to Freemont. It's much cheaper, and IMO, much more fun. Go to the Strip to see it, then go party on Freemont. IMO, once you've seen one Casino, you've seen them all. There are many great shows to check out on the Strip though, just don't even think about going to see Chris Angel. :P You'll also he "Half Price Show Ticket places all around, check them out, you can get great deals. As far as food goes, I'm not one to ask in that regard. There's many places around town that I LOVE, but I realize most people won't be leaving the Tourist areas to go eat. Some notable places though are The Hash House A Go Go inside Imperial Palace, and the HEart Attack Grill on Freemont. Haven't had a better burger or shake yet. As far as travel goes....there is the Monorail that runs from MGM all the way up to the Sahara, but that won't get you to the Hard Rock. There used to be a free shuttle from The Harley Davidson Cafe to the Hard Rock, but I'm not even sure if it's there anymore. Most Hotels have their own shuttles to and from the Airport, but if you cab it, just make sure the driver doesn't take you on a freeway. I don't care what he says, or even if it appears you're headed in the right direction, if you get on a freeway, he's ripping you off. For the drinkers out there, don't waste your money on drinks inside the casinos. Whenever I go to the Hard Rock, I go across the steet and get a 6 or 12 pack, then go over. You won't be able to get it in the Joint, but they don't care if you bring it in the Casino. Even better if you have a room there, then you can just stow it in the sink with ice. ;) All in all, it is Vegas, and most things are over priced, but that's the same with any tourist destination. Just remember: FREEMONT STREET!

I'm going to TRY go to them all. If I do GA for every one, I just won't be able to afford it though. So I think I'll go GA on some, and then Balcony on others.

I find it's a tough choice - wanting to get a good view of the band up close and getting better sound further away so I decided to do one day GA and one day balcony.  Best of both worlds in one weekend!

Same days as me but opposite order!  I see you also went to the Silver Spring show in Feb.  That show was great - the best I've been to with this lineup.

Sweet! Yeah, the way I look at it is, although I prefer GA, I'd rather be at 2 sitting on the balcony than 1 GA. I have 3 GA so far, Halloween, and the last 2. Gonna buy a few this weekend, somehow I'll make all 12! lol. If I don't have a ticket come a show day, I'll just go and see what happens. I'm sure at a last resort I could snag a cheap ticket there.

There's a Hash House inside The Plaza on Fremont Street as well. I've eaten at both so whichever one you're near is good to hit.

If anyone is looking for fine dining, I cannot recommend Bouchon in The Venetian enough. We've eaten there a few times and it's just incredible food.

Also those who are coming to Vegas, make sure if you take a Taxi from Airport to your Hotel, tell the Cabbie "No Tunnel" there's been problems with long hauling.  Just a little tip.

Yep, the tunnel brings them in the totally opposite direction straight onto the freeway. They do it ALL the time.

The concerts have been great this past year... 3-hour shows, adding some songs we hadn't played in other tours. The residency will be interesting, something we haven't done before. I'm expecting the whole experience to be a more personal one for fans."

Yeah, I'd say they are headed to Bridge School today. Then on to Vegas I would assume for rehearsals, etc.

Those shows are not sold out. Tickets are still available for every show on ticket master. I have no idea why they're not on gnr. com anymore.

My old lady went through ticketmaster to get her November 7th ticket today, so yeah, they're still on ticketmaster.

They are getting close to selling out though. I checked ticket availability for the 14th and 17th...the 17th is ga floor and the back row upper deck. The 14th has tickets in every section still but not a lot in each.

I have the poker chip that I got the day I bought Chinese democracy. Any idea how common these were?

I am finally all moved into Vegas and so excited this is how I get to kick off living here. Just bought tix for the show on the 3rd. I'll be buying more mostly for the shows happening Fri-Sun. The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino is going all out for the upcoming Guns N? Roses ?Appetite for Democracy? Las Vegas residency, even adding a special drink menu for those coming out to the shows.

Blabbermouth reports that during the band?s November run, The Joint, Vinyl, and all of Hard Rock?s bars will serve themed drinks dedicated to Guns N? Roses, carefully crafted by the venue?s mixology experts. There are six specialty items in all and they include:

- Patience Punch ? This tasty treat consists of Ketel One, Triple Sec, pineapple juice, orange juice and grenadine. Knock one back for $10.

- November Rain ? The tart concoction consists of Belvedere Lemon Tea and fresh lemonade. It costs $10.

- Liquid Dream Shot ? This fruity libation features a mix of Absolut Raspberry, Absolut Vanilla, Blue Curacao, pineapple juice and grenadine. Drink one down for $9.

Nice. We aren't that far away then. I am in Paradise Palms. I'm off E Desert Inn and right on the Vegas National Golf Course. So far I love it. Vegas is small in size but there are SO MANY things to see and do.

OK, I'll give this a shot before I actually purchase from the Hard Rock. I have tickets (or have them lined up) to 10/31, 11/2, 11/3, 11/9, 11/10, 11/23, and 11/24. Still need a single ticket to every other show. If anyone has an extra for any show, let me know and we'll make a deal. Prefer GA floor, but will take anything. (There's no way I can afford to do GA for all 12, so will do balcony if I have to.) Worse comes to worse, if I don't have a ticket to a particular show day, I'll just go down there and see if I can find someone getting rid of one.

Is everyone thinking of pre-partying at the Hard Rock or are there better/cheaper bars/pubs nearby?

I think there's a liquor store right by the Hard Rock closer to Kiss mini golf.  It would probably be cheaper... Then again I wouldn't wanna carry a 6 pck around, unless you go Randy Quaid style.

I'm staying at Terrible's a half mile away from the Hard Rock. Drinks are cheap there so we'll be pre-partying our asses off there, grabbing cheap beer from their party store and walking down to the Hard Rock whenever the time is right.

In case anyone's worried about their ground(ctrl) order . . . last night they e-mailed me with a UPS tracking number. So, I guess tickets should start arriving soon. Unfortunately, my ticket is scheduled to arrive after I've already left town.  :P But I was told to let them know to reprint the ticket, so I can pick it up at will call the night of the show.

Right on! I'm excited to hear the buzz from next weeks shows, then it's my turn the week after!!

When I saw GN'R in Las Vegas twice in 2006, I had my photo taken in front of the old stand. The one which had Axl's blue Vegas jacket, and his cowboy hat and kilt.  8)

Appetite for a residency: Chatting with Guns N? Roses? Tommy Stinson

Will you prepare for a 12-show residency any differently than you prepare for a tour? Probably a little bit, because I think we?re going to have to alternate sets and do different things. Whereas when we tour we kind of tweak the set as we go and then kind of get in a mode of it being a certain way, with a few audible changes as we go along. I think with the Vegas sets, we?re going to try and make some different things happen to kind of keep each show a little bit different.

Like, keep a basic set and mix in a few songs? Or will you have multiple setlists? I think we?re really going to have to think about that. And as you just say that ? (pauses) ? an idea came into my mind ? to really, drastically change the set. I can?t share it with you, but I think would be really good. I think there?s a couple different ways we could go about all this, and I think we should.

Is there you?ll be able to do, production-wise, to make these shows special since you won?t have to tear it all down every night? I?ve got a couple of ideas, and I think everyone is going to have to use their noggin to try to figure it out. I know Axl [Rose] is going to try and make every show different from one to the next. I think that would be the way he thinks.

Sounds like there?s still a lot up in the air. Do you think it will mostly happen spontaneously? Ya know, I don?t know. I think that we?re probably going to have to talk about how different we want to make the shows, then once we do that and we all get on the same page it?ll be easy to say, ?Hey, how ?bout tonight we do it this way?? That way, people aren?t gonna go, ?Wow, I saw them last week, and I saw that set.? It would be good to have them see a different set each time. To make people go, ?Wow, that was totally different.? It might be totally acoustic for half the set tonight. Or maybe we?ll do half the set on f*cking kazoos! (laughs)

The residency is called Appetite for Democracy. Does that mean it will mostly draw from Appetite for Destruction and Chinese Democracy? I just think somebody came up with a cute term (laughs). I don?t really know where that came from, but it is definitely going to be more than just Appetite and Chinese Democracy. It?s going to be a lot of things?as much as we can throw out there.

You?ve been in Guns N? Roses almost 15 years, right? Yeah, ?98! F*ckin A!

I know you played on Chinese Democracy, but were you involved in the writing process or was the album already written by the time you joined the band? I came in sort of ? in the middle of the record, but there was a lot to write and a lot to put together still. So I was pretty much involved in helping put all that stuff that you hear on Chinese Democracy together in one aspect or another.

When you took over GNR bass duties, did you try to play like Duff McKagan? Or did you try to make it your own? I think, other than him being more riff oriented than I am, we?re not all that different players. We both kind of came from a punk-rock background, and it wasn?t all that much of a stretch. I did, however, tweak my sound a little bit so that it would fit sonically with what was going on. I didn?t really try to sound like Duff necessarily, but to make it sound as powerful as I could while still fitting in to what?s going on.

I read that you and Paul Westerberg are working on new Replacements material. Yeah, we recorded some songs live in the studio a couple weekends ago to benefit Slim Dunlap, the guitar player that took my brother?s place. He had a massive series of strokes this last spring, and he?s pretty laid up, so we?re trying to raise some money for his recovery. We did, like, four songs. [Ex-Replacements drummer] Chris Mars did a song to throw on there, and we?re going to release a Replacements EP at some point. The proceeds will all go to Slim.

That will surely feed Replacements reunion tour rumor mill ? You never know. We certainly had a f*cking ball doing it, and it was fun to get in the f*cking mud and just kind of sling around until it kind of warps into something and you?re just like, ?Wow, we can actually still f*cking do that.? I think some time, maybe end of December or early January, we might try to just record some songs together, not for any purpose for The Replacements necessarily but just do some recording just to have that vibe, whether it?s for his record, my record, whatever. That?s just something we talked about. It could fall apart at any point. We both had enough fun with it that it seemed like it would be a good thing to try and do.

During the ?80s, The Replacements exemplified anti-mainstream music. Now, you play in Guns N? Roses, one of the most popular bands from that period. Was that a strange transition, mentally? Ya know, they?re totally different things, but they?re both totally the same in a lot of ways, in that its rock ?n? roll. It?s what I?ve always done. Axl is about as anti-corporate-rock as anyone I know, Paul [Westerberg] included. It just so happens that their model of anti-corporate-rock got through and people liked it. People bought it. I can?t speak for the whole band, but I can speak for me getting down with Axl, and he comes from the same place as all of us.

I think there's a liquor store and a brew house across from the Hard Rock, but I'm sure some are going to tough it out at the nickel slots for "free" drinks.

Keep in mind the Hard Rock's not on the strip, it's prob. a half hour walk, it's close to UNLV.

There were complaints about the beer selection at The Joint, there's decent brewpubs all over the Strip, but don't remember there being one in the Hard Rock casino.

 

The Hofbr?uhaus is right across the street.

We drank our ASSES OFF one morning at that place a couple trips ago! Great place!

Food ain't bad either. :) That's about as good as your gonna get for a pre party place. Besides the Hard Rock itself. I wish the Rainbow was still right across the street. That place didn't last too long.

In less than a week Sin City will be home to the legendary rock band Guns N? Roses. The group is setting up shop at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino for their first residency, ?Appetite for Democracy.?  Their 12-show run at The Joint starts Oct. 31 and runs through Nov. 24.

To honor the occasion, the Hard Rock is renaming their street to welcome the rockers to Vegas. On Oct. 29 Hard Rock and Clark County will declare Paradise Road to be known as Paradise City Road. The name pays homage to the group?s record-breaking hit ?Paradise City.?

?Appetite for Democracy? will feature an exclusive set list that spans the group?s biggest hit songs from their debut album, ?Appetite for Destruction? (1987), to their most recent platinum-selling album, ?Chinese Democracy? (2008).

Today?s GNR lineup consists of frontman and founder Axl Rose, DJ Ashba (guitar), Dizzy Reed (keyboards), Tommy Stinson (bass), Richard Fortus (guitar), Ron ?Bumblefoot? Thal (guitar), Chris Pitman (keyboards) and Frank Ferrer (drums).

?There?s definitely going to be some cool surprises, and I don?t want to give anything away,? said Reed. ?The main thing is that [fans] are going to see a kickass rock and roll show. ?

Reed joined GNR in 1990, making him the longest-running member in the band aside from Rose. He played on both the ?Use Your Illusion I and II? albums and contributed to a majority of the songs, including ?Dust N Bones,? ?Live and Let Die,? ?Novemeber Rain,? ?Garden of Eden,? ?Civil War? and ?Yesterdays.?

VEGAS.com had a chance to talk to Reed about the group?s upcoming residency and what it means to the band to be playing in the Entertainment Capital of the World. Here?s what he had to say:

What made the band decide to do this residency in Vegas at the Hard Rock?

?Vegas is a fun town, a great place to play. We love playing there. Great atmosphere, very festive,  so it seemed like a good idea.?

What does the band have planned for the residency shows?

?We?ll do a lot of drinking, a lot of gambling, hope to play some golf during the day and yeah and play at night.?

Are fans in Vegas going to see anything different with your residency shows than they would when the band is on tour?

?There?s definitely going to be some cool surprises, and I don?t want to give anything away. The main thing is that they?re going to see a kickass rock and roll show. That?s what we deliver, and we do it every  night. That?s where it?s at; that?s the bottom line.?

What about your set list? What do you have planned?

?Well, we have a shitload of songs worked up, and we have for a while. You know the thing with this band and the way it?s always been with this band is there?s never really a set set list. It?s just more of a guide. ? We have a huge repertoire, and we?ll be pulling stuff from that every night??

When you?re not performing are you going to be staying in Vegas?

?As far as I know, we?re going to be hanging in Vegas most of the time, the whole time probably. I may have to come home maybe once or twice just to check on the place, but for the most part we?ll hanging there. So, you?ll see us around out on the golf course, in the casinos, the nightclubs ? that?s what Vegas is all about.?

What does it mean to you that 2012 is also the 25th anniversary of ?Appetite for Destruction??

?The whole anniversary thing is pretty amazing to me ? it just makes me feel kind of old. I?ve been in this band a long time. That?s a lifetime for a lot of people, but it?s cool that it?s still going strong. It?s great to be a part of it. Like I said, this is just a kickass band, and we definitely do it all justice.?

Why do you think that album continues to be so iconic today?

?Today I think music is so much more about the production and the bells and the whistles and the tones and the sounds, who won ?American Idol.? It?s more about the presentation, but at the end of the day if you can sit down and play a song on your acoustic guitar or on the piano and it still sounds great, that?s what it?s all about. I think that record comes from that period of time when you had to have that.?

I know you joined the band after that album came out, but what is it like for you to play those songs for fans 25 years after ?Appetite? was released?

?Well, you know, we?ve been playing a lot of those songs for a long time, but when I first joined the band, I was a big fan of that record. It?s always a treat for me to add what I can to those songs. I always think it?s good to twist things around a little bit when you play things live. To me, it?s always kind of disappointing to go see a band and they play their record exactly the same as the record from beginning to end. It?s a little boring? To add anything creatively and to help deliver it to people that?s always a treat. That?s why we do this.?

Are you working on any new music now?

?We?ve been kicking some ideas around. We have some time off in Vegas. Hopefully we?ll be able to organize ourselves to get in a room and continue to refine a lot of those ideas and see what happens. I think as a whole this particular lineup has never really written together. We have in smaller groups?it could be great, it could be a disaster, you never know. We have three guitar players. You have three guitar players in a room together it?s always going to be volatile, but I shouldn?t say that because those guys are great. They actually work really great together, and they?re all so good. They?re the top of the heap, and for them to be able to work things out and present it the way we do every night live, it?s pretty amazing. I?m sure we can harness that energy and that vibe and get stuff recorded.?

There always seems to be some controversy surrounding GNR, but what do you want fans to know about the band and your music?

?I just want our fans to know we?re thinking about them. We always do because it?s for them. Everything we do is for the fans. As far as controversy and stuff, I probably said something in this interview that?s going to start something. I never know (laughs)? We?re here for the fans and we appreciate the fans, especially the ones that have been fans for such a long time and the ones that have come out and seen the new band. I know there?s always been skeptics, obviously, and the ones that actually come out, I think most of them walk away going, ?Wow that was cool; that is a great band.? So if you haven?t seen us yet come check it out.?

What does it mean to you that GNR is going to be part of the entertainment lineup in Vegas?

?You know when I was growing up it was such a really cool special thing. You heard about the Rat Pack  performing there.  Then when Elvis did his residency, that was just a huge thing. It was just like magic ? you just wanted to be there. So I think , you know, not that we?re as cool as Elvis or anything, but we?re still alive, that?s a positive, and just to be a part of that, that?s pretty awesome.?

Guns N' Roses planning most elaborate spectacle yet for extended Vegas stay

When DJ Ashba was but 9 years old he was already playing guitar in cover bands, small in stature if not aspiration.

"I remember trying to play Guns N' Roses songs," he says, recalling a bit of youthful prescience.

Today, Ashba sits in a backroom of The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel as one of the guitarists of the band whose locomotive riffs and finger-spraining solos challenged him as a kid.

It took close to three decades to get the gig, but here he is, reclining on a couch, talking about GNR's upcoming "Appetite for Democracy" 12-show residency at the venue.

"We're doing stuff that we've never done before at any shows," he boasts, though boasting isn't really his thing.

Ashba looks like an extrovert, someone comfortable being at the center of attention, with tattooed arms as brightly colored as macaw plumage sticking out of a sleeveless blue flannel shirt, matching lip and nose rings and the fashionably distressed cowboy hat of a range-riding goth.

He has the appearance of a rock star - and he certainly is - but he doesn't always carry himself like one, a thoughtful, soft-spoken presence who's gradually gone from outcast to insider.

"It was really tough as a kid," Ashba recalls of growing up in the soybean country of central Illinois. "I would spend most of my time under our stairs in the basement. I felt so alone. I couldn't really relate to anyone. I didn't know why I felt like I did. I just knew I wasn't in the right place. I knew that I didn't belong there."

As confusing as his childhood was at times, it would prepare Ashba well for eventually joining Guns N' Roses, a band of misfits who made not fitting in both a visual and musical aesthetic.

The album that started it all for the band, that got Ashba and millions of others hooked, that continues to stand as a landmark of sleaze, danger and leather, 1987's "Appetite for Destruction," turned 25 this year and is still the heart that pumps the blood through the band's veins, even though only singer Axl Rose remains from the lineup that recorded the album.

This has long been a sore spot for certain GNR loyalists, some of whom have gone so far as to show up to the band's gigs sporting the signature top hat of former guitarist Slash in protest of his absence from the current incarnation of the group.

"If you're coming out to see the old band, you're going to be bummed," Ashba says. "They haven't been around for well over 15 years. If you're coming out with an open mind, you're going to get your ass kicked hard. That I can promise."

Guns N' Roses lived up to Ashba's words the last time the band was in town for a pair of shows New Year's weekend, also at The Joint.

On the first night of the two-day stand, the band powered through a sweaty, completely over-the-top, three-hour demonstration of rock 'n' roll of button-bursting heft.

In a town of all-you-can-eat buffets, this was the hard rock equivalent.

In addition to Ashba, the band features two more guitarists (Ron "Bumblefoot" Thall and Richard Fortus), all of whom soloed at will, oblivious to concision.

Rose seldom stopped moving, and when he did, it was to plant his feet and send his voice hurtling up to the rafters in his trademark shriek that still hammers eardrums the way a blacksmith pounds his anvil.

Meanwhile, there was so much pyro going off that nostrils were stung by the acrid sent of sulfur that lingered in the air after the explosions.

It was spectacle served in corpulent portions, a thoroughly overstuffed performance - but that was the whole point.

From the outset, this band has been defined by excess, initially of a darker, drugs and booze variety, but this same too-much-is-never-enough spirit still propels the group forward.

For their extended Vegas stay, GNR is planning their most elaborate production yet.

"When you're on the road, you can only do so much a night because the show has to be big, but it can't be too big to where you can't tear it down and get it to the next state," says Ashba, who now lives in Vegas. "This is something where we can custom build a stage just for the venue, we can bring in the right lighting. You can do so many things and really cater to the venue that you're playing in."

Ashba also says that the band will mix things up songwise from night to night.

"We don't want to play the same show 12 times in a row," he explains. "We do know that there's people who are going to see the show four or five times, and our main goal is to make sure that it's a different experience every show.

"What Axl's really good at doing is reading the crowd," he continues. "We never follow a set list. Basically, we just kind of go from song to song and throw it out on the spot, in between every song, and that's what makes every show so spontaneous and different. It makes it a little more nerve-racking, but it makes it fun and real. It doesn't get stale."

It's hard to imagine life in this band ever growing old for Ashba, a music lifer who started playing piano at age 3 at his mother's prompting.

All these years later, he's still performing some of the same songs he did as a kid, handed the key to a "Paradise City" all his own.

"I never doubted what I was going to do," Ashba says of a career in rock 'n' roll. "In fact, I dated a girl all through high school, and I remember telling her in the sixth grade, 'I'm just letting you know, one day, I'm going to L.A. to become a rock star.' As soon as I graduated, I went, 'All right, I'm out.'

"She didn't believe me," he says, savoring the memory, "but I always knew."

Glad I didn't book trip for the first 3 shows from NY, I think I would be fucked with the damn storm coming exactly the same time I would be trying to leave, just hope it doesn't bleed into next week when I do go.

I had a flight booked for Tuesday so I changed it last night knowing I was probably going to be screwed. I'm glad I took care of it so quickly! I now leave tomorrow at 1pm and on top of my 3 Guns shows, I got tickets for Dylan and Elton John! I can't fn' wait. :beer:

I am seriously debating getting my butt to Vegas for some residency shows.  Anyone think it will be possible to get a pic with Axl?  Seems like if he is staying in the rea he may be more accessible to the fans.  It is my dream to have a photograph of myself with W. Axl Rose.  It would be a keeper!   :love:

When I went to Las Vegas in 2006, to see the Sept 16th/17th shows at the old Joint. I was walking around the Hard Rock checking things out and I got my photo taken in front of the GN'R display window by another fan. And I went into the memoribilia store which was located just next to the reception where guests checked in. And I'm looking at the t shirts, and I almost literaly bump into Ron doing the same, it was unbelievable.  :smoking:

I told him how great the show last night was, and we was talking about me flying from the UK, and also the show on that night. I got a photo with him and he was the nicest guy ever, and he also waved at me on that night at the show, and everyone around me was like "WTF is he waving at you?".  ;D

Also saw Robin and Richard laughing at the GN'R display window, probably because of all of the old bands gear being in there at that time. Also saw Dizzy and Del strolling through the casino... and all this was in 2 days!!!!!!!!.

So if you want to meet members of GN'R, Las Vegas IS the place to go to see them.  ;D ;D ;D

YEP! Over new years, I saw every one in the casino at some point, and that was just one weekend! Haha. (Totally off subject, but as I was taking the elevator down to the casino one time, the door opens and I see Fieldy from Korn standing there by himself playing with his phone. Haha, I said what's up Fieldy, and he just looked up and smiled and extended his hand. Almost as if he was happy someone recognized him. So yeah, besides the band, it wouldn't surprise me to see other known people wandering around as well.)

I just got back from the Paradise City Road ceremony! It was pretty cool. The whole band except Axl was there. When Bumble was talking he thanked everyone for coming, then pointed at me and said "Especially you!" hahaha. I ran into Chris in the casino and he goes "What's your name again? I know I know you from someplace" Then he took another pic with me. I"ll post pictures later, but I left my damn camera cord at work. Ms. Bumble's pics covered everything anyways. :) 2 more days!!!!!!!!!

I should also note that I saw 2 local TV stations there filming. Then after the ceremony I saw them interview Dizzy and DJ. Not sure if and when it'll be on their websites, but here's the links anyway.

This is fake for sure. I'd LOVE to see Locomotive played but it is unlikely it seems like a more die hard fan track. Sympathy and Goin' Down I just don't ever see happening. Things I could see though would be Pretty Tied Up and Yesterdays. Both are hits and would be huge crowd favorites.

GN?R Keyboardist Reed Looking Forward to Performing "Appetite for Destruction" at Vegas Residency

Guns N? Roses will kick off a series of shows at The Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas this Wednesday, where they?ll be paying tribute to the 25th anniversary of the release of their debut album, Appetite for Destruction.  Keyboardist Dizzy Reed says he?s excited to play the album in its entirety each night of the residency.

?I was a big fan of that record when it came out, [even though] I wasn?t in the band yet,? Reed tells ABC News Radio.  ?They?re all great songs, so a good song speaks for itself and if you can add anything to it, that?s even better and also?the crowd reaction is always cool too.?

Reed adds that he hopes the band?s month-long stay in Vegas will help the guys write some new music for a follow-up to 2008′s Chinese Democracy.  ?All of us are always bouncing ideas around,? explains the keyboardist.  ?We got a lot of time to kill on the bus and stuff, so I know that there?s a lot of stuff floating around and [Vegas] might be a good time to get together and float some more.?

Guns N? Roses? Vegas residency, dubbed ?Appetite for Democracy,? will run through November 24.  In addition to playing tracks from their debut album, frontman Axl Rose and company have said they?ll draw songs from every GN?R album for their sets.

A Clark County commissioner said she regrets the commission?s decision to temporarily rename Paradise Road to Paradise City Road to promote Guns N? Roses concerts because an ad for the iconic group?s concerts depicts what appears to be a sexually assaulted woman beneath the ?Welcome to Las Vegas? sign.

?Paradise City? is among the band?s best-selling songs. Guns N? Roses will be resident artists at the Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel through Nov. 24. Paradise Road runs alongside the Hard Rock.

The ad is a revised version of the group?s banned cover of its first album, ?Appetite for Destruction.? The cartoon-like drawing depicts a robotic monster lurking over a skeletal robot, with a disheveled woman sprawled on a sidewalk, her underwear pulled down below her knees and her blouse opened, exposing a breast. The ?Welcome to Las Vegas? sign, and another that reads ?Welcome to Paradise Sin City? have been added to the drawing for the current concert promotion.

The artwork appears on the group?s website selling tickets to its shows at the Joint, and a somewhat sanitized version ? no exposed breast and no underwear ? is used in mainstream advertising including newspaper promotions and taxicab placards.

When the Sun posted the story Monday about the street name change, a reader responded, ?So with this ad, do you really think violence against women doesn?t resonate? Why would the county commissioners not recognize this demoralization of women and then go ahead and name a street after this band??

Commissioner Mary Beth Scow, who represented the county at the ceremony commemorating the temporary name change, said she was unaware of the ad promoting the concert that the county was throwing its support behind.

?I hadn?t seen the advertising before the media event,? she said Tuesday. ?It?s clearly inappropriate. Maybe it?s the risk of doing business with a rock band, but I guess we?ll have some remorse over this decision. It?s a lesson learned.?

A spokeswoman for Safe Nest, a woman's shelter, said the county should rescind the street name change and that the Joint and the rock band should apologize and stop using the image because it promotes acceptance of violence against women.

"It?s very frustrating to see approval ? almost a celebration ? of rape and violence against women," said Lisa Lynn Chapman. "Our community has enough issues with domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse and so many other violent issues that to have this being paraded around town on taxicabs and in advertising is very offensive."

Even the toned-down version of the ad reflects violence, because of the torn garments, and allowing that sort of image "makes it easier to perpetuate a culture of violence against women," Chapman said. Guns N' Roses "should not be rewarded (with a street name in its honor) for this kind of insult against our community."

A spokesman for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority offered an, ?Oh, boy? when told of the promotion's artwork and then deferred to county government officials for comment.

The county prepared a street sign for Paradise City Road for presentation to the group on the assurance that promoters would reimburse the county the $300 cost of making it. There were no plans to actually post the sign on street corners.

Scow said she thought she had done due diligence before attending Monday?s event, saying she even looked to the lyrics of ?Paradise City.?

She said she liked the song?s chorus: ?Take me down to the paradise city, where the grass is green and the girls are pretty ...?

Yup. And the artwork has always been colloquially known as the "rape scene" so I never thought that was under debate. I always thought it was actually condemning rape -- the monster is jumping the fence to kill the robot rapist -- but I can see how it would completely trigger someone who has been sexually assaulted. Painting, photo, whatever, an image of a woman who has been violated in some way can be really upsetting. That's not a judgment on the image; it's not a judgment on the quality.

I'm sure I'll get roasted for this, but I wish, all things considered, that they had chosen a different image for the residency. I get why they did it, it's the original AfD cover and all, and it's a very evocative painting, but I wish they'd gone with something else. Or, since they've altered the original painting as it is, they could have replaced the beaten woman with a happy/sexy one. Or turned the table and had the woman kicking the shit out of the robot.

So yeah, first show tomorrow!  Who's stoked?!
