DUFF MCKAGAN To Tour With WALKING PAPERS

PEARL JAM guitarist Mike McCready and ex-GUNS N' ROSES and VELVET REVOLVER bass player Duff McKagan are working with WALKING PAPERS, a new Seattle band launched by former SCREAMING TREES drummer Barrett Martin and longtime Seattle musician Jeff Angell. McKagan plays bass on the band's entire debut disc, while McCready contributes lead guitar solos. Mixed by Jack Endino, the record is due out on October 16 via Boredom Killing Business/Sunyata Records and the first single, "Your Secret's Safe With Me", is streaming at the band's Facebook page.

"Walking Papers" track listing:

01. Already Dead
02. The Whole World's Watching
03. Your Secret's Safe With Me
04. Red Envelopes
05. Leave Me In The Dark
06. The Butcher
07. Two Tickets And A Room
08. I'll Stick Around
09. Capital T
10. A Place Like This
11. Independence Day

Commented Martin: "WALKING PAPERS is excited to play our first international dates in the U.K. Two of us, myself and Duff McKagan, have debuted our first bands in London: Duff with GUNS N' ROSES, myself with both SKIN YARD and SCREAMING TREES.

"The British people understand rock and roll like no other country in the world, which is why fellow Seattleites Jimi Hendrix went there, why MUDHONEY went there, and why WALKING PAPERS is going there as well.

"Jeff Angell, our singer and guitarist, is a natural storyteller, and Ben Anderson plays keyboards like a classic soul man session player. With Duff and I as the rhythm section, let's just say we are the seasoned veterans. We play old-school, gritty, bluesy American rock and roll, and as a quartet, that's as real as it gets."

WALKING PAPERS tour dates:

Sep. 30 - Portland, OR - Dante's

Martin and McCready previously played together in MAD SEASON, alongside late ALICE IN CHAINS singer Layne Staley. The band is currently being reactivated with new vocals being recorded over tracks originally laid down for an abandoned second MAD SEASON album.

McKagan was born and raised in Seattle and played in a punk band there called 10 MINUTE WARNING before migrating to Los Angeles and joining GUNS.

McCready and the rest of PEARL JAM are also working on their 10th studio album, which should be out sometime in 2013.

Cool, looking forward to it.
I've always thought McCready was at his best when out of the confines of Pearl Jam.
Temple of the Dog and Mad Season Above are amazing, underrated records.

Hope that Mad Season/Disinformation project with Lanegan happens, too.

Totally right about Temple of the Dog and especially Mad Season.  I STILL listen to Mad Season's 'Above' record.  I literally just popped it in this week.  So so good.

I am disappointed that Walking Papers don't have any east coast dates scheduled at all.  Here's to hoping they get a few on there!

Yeah, I've never liked Pearl Jam. But "Above" is a favorite :) You did notice that these songs are left-overs from Mad Season? I think this project is a piece of quality. Difficult to get vocals like Lanegan and Staley though....

They're not. Recording vocals over leftovers from Mad Season is something else Barrett Martin is doing as well as this that the article just mentioned at the end. This music is all new. From what I've heard on their BandPage on Facebook, it's sounding great, too. Can't wait for the album.

Oh, sorry. I see that now. Lost in translation I guess...

Album is out in mp3 and flac form.  Haven't listened yet but the songs I've heard so far I'm digging.

The Mad Season stuff I'm really looking forward to as well.  Remastered "Above" then the tracks that were initially recorded for the second album with new vocals.  Back in the day there was a site for "Disinformation" with a good bit of information on it but this is the abbreviated version from Wiki.  Although the last paragraph says something about Barrett Martin singing "as originally planned" which is incorrect, it was going to be Mark Lanegan.

"In 1997, attempts were made by McCready, Saunders and Martin to revive Mad Season, although by this point Staley's health had worsened due to severe drug addiction. As a result he declined to participate in the project any further, thus leaving Mad Season without a singer. With Staley now out of the picture, the band recruited vocalist Mark Lanegan (of the Screaming Trees), who had previously guested on the Above album (as well as at live shows) as its new permanent singer. With the switch in frontmen the group also switched names adopting the Disinformation moniker in late 1997.[10]

Work reportedly began in 1998 on what would have been Disinformation's debut album, although between everyone's busy schedules studio time was hard to come by. Over the course of the year the quartet gradually grew apart, making a Disinformation album all the more unlikely. Another critical blow was dealt to the project in January 1999 with the death of bassist John Baker Saunders from an overdose of heroin. The group (especially Saunders' long-time friend Mike McCready) was deeply saddened to hear news of his death.[9] Although no official announcement by the band was ever given, it is widely accepted that Mad Season/Disinformation broke up following Saunders' death. In a radio interview with Alice in Chains in July 1999, Layne Staley confirmed that Mad Season had broken up due to the death of John."

What do people think of the album? I love it and hope this band is going to go on to work together more and release albums with Duff as a full band member.

Just picked it up yesterday, and I'm liking it.
Really like the music. Lead singer has a good voice, and writes pretty good lyrics, a rarity today.
The only thing that bugs me so far is that some of the lyrics seem out of place with the music, on some songs..
Probably nitpicking, though.

Standouts for me after the first spin are Already Dead, (McCready's short but sweet solo in) Your Secret's Safe With Me and Independence Day.
I can see these guys growing into something pretty cool, so hope Duff sticks with them. Too bad McCready isn't touring.
Closest thing to a legit new rock band I've heard in a while, and with Lanegan's Blues Funeral, makes 2 CDs I've purchased this year that haven't become instant coasters/frisbees.
Thank you Seattle.

Add "Leave me in the Dark" and "Capital T" to the standouts.
The lyrics don't bother me as much second, 3rd time around in Capital T, and the music has an almost RATM-Lite sound to it.

I have never seen Duff and he's one of my favorite old members. Going to the show in Hamburg is definitely a possibility for me.

Is there any more information on the European dates? Venues, places to buy tickets, ticket prices etc.

nevermind, found it on their FB page

I don't know if anyone cares but I went to the concert in Hamburg last monday and I met the entire band including Duff after the concert

He was really sweet (they all were) He signed the things I'd brought along and he gave me his sweatband and a pick.

I had been talking to Jeff (the lead singer) on Facebook a little and because I'd helped promote the band on Facebook, Twitter etc he gave me a poster of Walking Papers with my name on it which the entire band signed. I thought that was really awesome  :)

You should really go see the band if you have a chance, they're great.
