The Province ( http://www.canada.com/vancouver/theprovince/news/story.html?id=041d0dcc-9218-47f4-97e1-6136a5183239 ) reports: A lawyer for Vancouver B.C.'s Police Complaints Commission says the actions of two Vancouver police officers during the GUNS N' ROSES riot in 2002 were unreasonable and unnecessary.

Dana Urban told a public hearing that to simply accept the word of the two officers that their actions were justified would step onto the slippery slope toward a police state.

Constables Ryan D'Onofrio and Reg Forster were caught on videotape (Real Media) beating two people while trying to subdue a rampaging crowd outside GM Place after the rock group cancelled its show.

Urban says none of the other officers or security guards saw the need to strike people repeatedly with their steel batons, yet they shared the same fears.

A lawyer for Robert Parent, who lost his teeth during the riot, has said police were out of control that night and acted like the mob they were fighting.
