Title: Buckcherry
Post by: blues rocker on January 28, 2005, 01:31:47 PM

HOLY SHIT!!!!! i just read that buckcherry have reunited...well, at least their singer and lead guitarist have - which is pretty much the core of the band anyway...this fucking rules....buckcherry was the only band to produce real, old-fashioned rock during that whole rap-metal trend in the late 90's/early 2000's....they were the only band i really liked after gnr...this is great news...I'M ALL LIT UP AGAIN, beotch...I LOVE THE COCAINE, I LOVE THE COCAINE...peaceout

by the way, their singer (josh todd) was supposed to be the singer of velvet revolver until they dumped him because he wasn't famous enough..

BUCKCHERRY - Back Together
According to MTV, Just three years after they broke up, Los Angeles hard rockers BUCKCHERRY are prepping a reunion. Well, singer Josh Todd and guitarist Keith Nelson, are, anyway. The band's songwriting core has reunited and is recording its third album with a new rhythm section and second guitarist. The as-yet-untitled album is due out later this year.

as far as i know it's just the singer (josh todd) and the lead guitarist (keith nelson)...they have found new members to play bass, rhythm and drums...i didn't like the second album as much...maybe they'll go back to the more bluesy sound of the first album

wow...i looked into it and jimmy ashhurst played with izzy in the juju hounds....no way!  somehow buckcherry always seems to have some kind of connection to gnr members...i don't know anything about ashhurst, but if he played with izzy, he must be good....that would be awesome if he was the new bassist for buckcherry

if you don't mind me asking...what is your connection with jimmy? are you a musician, or someone in the music business or what?  i'm just asking, because whenever someone comes on a board and says they've spoken to this person or that person,  i am naturally going to be skeptical and consider the possibility that the person is just making it up and screwing with me...i'm not asking you to tell me your name or where you work, just a vague explanation..

this is fantastic news.  the only news better than this would be axl and slash reuniting.. seems like all my favorite bands break up.... I really wish that velvet revolver went with josh todd rather than scott.... but i'll be happy with a buckcherry album.  i all most like them better than the new gnr.  the music is pretty good.. maddy the blues ect.. but i can't get into teh 3 ring circus.. goth, guys with buckets on their head.  seem like people you would make fun of in highscholl not rock icons.. anyway back to buckcherry.  does anyone know where to download any of their rare tracks likd late night in voodoo or fast back 69.. and the cover on the nascar soundtrack.. that cover by the way is one of the best cover since kohd by gnr.  so fired up to hear about bc getting back together.. thanks for the info.. keep up updated

...Or because he wasnt the best guy.

Anyway, Im glad to hear this, I like the band.

psh...sorry, but josh todd is a much better singer and writer than scott...he would've been the perfect singer for VR...when i first heard josh would be the singer, i thought: "now that's a perfect fit"....then when i later heard they had chosen scott instead, i thought: "scott weiland?! he's a grunge singer...he is not at all right for a band composed mostly of ex-gunners"....it is obvious they just wanted a singer who already had a big reputation so people would pay more attention to their band....they were afraid to accept a no-name singer for their band...as a result of choosing scott, their album is dull and boring...not at all as good as it could've been if they'd stuck with josh

Haha, just hearing the name Buckcherry makes me laugh.

Not tryin' to start a fight here, but they are probably one of the worst bands I've ever heard. And I also saw them live when they opened for Kiss back in '99.
Everyone thought they were crap, and the singer Todd insulted the crowd many times, so when he decided to to a stage dive, everyone just stepped aside and he landed on the ground. One of the funniest things I've ever seen :)

I have been a HUGE Buck fan since I saw the ad for the first album on tv back in '99... I got to meet and hang out with the band at a gig in London, ON and that was one of the coolest nights of my life. I can't begin to describe how exciting this is for me... I can only hope it is true. This feeling is like when the GN'R '02 tour was announced.

I can't believe that I am just finding out about this now, though... How sad that I call myself a huge fan!

songs about drugs

I found this rumor on the BuckCherry message board...

"BuckCherry is said to be playing Canyon Club in Agoura Hills, Cali on Friday, August 5th. It would make sense since they are yet to perform together in front of a crowd, and they need to warm-up for Summer Sonic

I phoned up the Canyon Club to confirm and they said Molly Hatchet is scheduled to play that evening. The opening band though is a new group called 'The Cherry Brothers'"

It is now confirmed that reunited Los Angeles hard rockers BUCKCHERRY will be playing a "secret" club show tonight (August 5) at the Canyon Club in Agoura Hills, California The band will hit the stage at around 8:30 p.m. under the name THE CHERRY BROTHERS. Headlining the concert will be MOLLY HATCHET. This will be BUCKCHERRY's first show with their new lineup:

Josh Todd (vocals)
Keith Nelson (guitar)
Jimmy Ashhurst (bass)
Stevie D. (guitar)
Xavier Muriel (drums)

BUCKCHERRY will be playing material from their first two releases plus new material from their forthcoming CD, "Fifteen", which will be released on Universal in Japan in October. The follow-up to 2001's "Time Bomb" was produced by Nelson and is expected to receive a U.S. release in the first quarter of 2006.

As previously reported, BUCKCHERRY have been confirmed for the Summer Sonic Festival, set to take place August 13-14 in Tokyo and Osaka, Japan. Also scheduled to appear at the festival are SLIPKNOT, NINE INCH NAILS and DEEP PURPLE, among others.

you must check out this new buckcherry song...even if you already like buckcherry, you will be blown away by this song...and if you don't like buckcherry, you will after hearing it.  just click the link below and the song will play automatically (i recommend using headphones)

forget everything you know about buckcherry - this song is far beyond any of their previous work, and it is on par with great bands like GnR and Aerosmith.  their music has matured quite a bit since their last album...this song illustrates what this band is truly capable of.

if you are disappointed by VR because they abandoned the GnR style of music, you will be comforted by this song...it has a very strong GnR style - old school and blues based, but still powerful and modern...it has a timeless quality that is difficult to achieve.  and it's CATCHY AS HELL.

actually, the october release is in japan...it won't come out in the U.S. until early 2006 (jan - april)

this will be their 3rd album, and it will be called "fifteen"

just a side note - buckcherry's new bass player (jimmy ashhurst) played bass for izzy in izzy's solo band "izzy stradlin and the juju hounds"...just an interesting piece of trivia

Music is good but VR smokes this. I like VR's modern rock style. If they would have gotten Josh Todd people then would be ripping them because they sound too much like GnR , they would have been saying they should have gotten Scott instead, it is a no win situation for them . I think Weiland is ten times the front man Todd is. Josh Todd is good but not even close to Scott.

Its funny cause VR sucks cause of Weiland supposedly but yet all people bitch about is the music.

Last I checked Weiland doesnt play an instrument so......

Watched VR live to see Slash and Duff, spent the whole time watching Scott cause he is amazing

I like lyricist who write bout something I can relate to.

Josh Todd sounds like a junior high kid learning how to cuss for the first time.

there is no substance to that song whatsoever and I guess thats what I listen to music for.

I agree the lyrics of this Buckcherry song are awful, but how in the world does somebody relate to stuff like this

Quote
Somebody raped my tapeworm abortion
Come on motherfuckers and deliver the cow
Brain and body melting while there's roaches multiplying
It's the alien infection it's the coming of Christ

That's from Sucker Train Blues.

Crazy Bitch Vocals are overproduced.  ::) And the singer should SHUT UP before the damn solo is over!

Lit Up is a fun as hell song though, even though I prefer KISS more for that style of music. Buckcherry have definitely gone down over the years. Rock bands are like the opposite of metal in that way; they get worse as time goes on (especially after the 3rd album) instead of better.

there music has a very classic rock n roll sound.. i think similar to very early aerosmith or the black crows.. some songs have a bit of a hairband feel.. not really giving them much justice.. . pm me if anyone wants a listen to the new album thats not released in US yet.. if you like "deep" music about how your life sux that you get paid millions to play music and bang hot groupies everynight.. then you prob won't like.. if your into songs about sex, drugs and rock n roll then you will def like them

It also has a huge internet following.

heard it thought it sucked.

Is that song really allowed to be played on the radio ??? WTF

what happened to the days when singers could subtley insert references to sex and drugs into their lyrics huh?

IMHO, it's tasteless and only written as shock value to listeners. I was seriously thinking about checking out this band until i heard this song, now I'm not interested.

I hope it doesn't become huge  cuz then I'll have to change the radio station twice an hour.

IMHO, it's tasteless and only written as shock value to listeners. I was seriously thinking about checking out this band until i heard this song, now I'm not interested.

Let this song be as it is. It's not really about shock value, but rock. The album is very good, you should give BC a try.

Their first album did go gold.

I ordered it on ebay for 5.50 total.

I can't wait to get it. They are playing at the final 4 in indy.

Their biggest hit was Lit Up

Ridin' went to #9 on the mainstream rock chart in 2001

Right now, Crazy bitch jumped from 31 to #25 last week and charts just came out today, and it's jumped from #25 to #19 this week.

Right on... might have to get the new album...

I heard that stations are getting huge amounts of Payola to play this bad boy.

oh, I'm beginning to hear it on KROQ a lot now.  One of the dj's made a point of telling everyone to check out Buckcherry.

The lyrics are too repetitive, but the music is great and I like the song.

Ya how big was Lit Up?
I wouldn't really know because I wasn't into Rock, or music in general 'till a few years ago when it became my life.

My friend played me Immigrint Song which eventually led to my discovery of Sweet Child... that changed my life.

I didnt' like the new disc at all when I first heard it, but after giving it another go I am pretty happy with it.  Not as good as their first disc and there are a few tracks that are pretty crappy, but over all its got some good tunes.  Just fun, attitudey rock.  I think Crazy Bitch is the best rock song on the CD though.  Carousel is a great song too.

Yes, he is. His name is Josh Todd and he was at one point working with Slash, Duff and Matt in an early version of what would become Velvet Revolver (just in case you didn't already know that). He left Buckcherry and I believe they split up for a while as a result, and then got back together without the original bass player and drummer. Anyway, Buckcherry have a new album out called "15". It's not great, it's really just "more of the same", but sometimes that's all you want and all you need. Josh Todd's also got a solo album out. It's worth checking out.

anyone who doesn't like their new album "15" is a dumb-ass...got it the day it came out and it is not only buckcherry's best album yet, it's probably the best album to come out in years...period...

the lyrics in  "crazy bitch" are a little over the top...but you can't deny that the song kicks serious ass...great guitars and vocal melodies.

the rest of the album is awesome as well...in fact, most of the songs are even better than "crazy bitch"...if you like solid rock n roll, you'd be a fool not to buy the album.

Apparently this song is going to be huge.
I heard that stations are getting huge amounts of Payola to play this bad boy.
It also has a huge internet following.

HAHAHA...that's a good one....payola?  who's paying the stations?  buckcherry isn't even on a major label in the U.S. - so unless the band members are "paying" the radio stations with their own pocket change, i highly doubt there is any payola going on.

this band purposefully went with an independent label in the U.S. because they got screwed by their last label (dreamworks)...then the label shut down suddenly and they were out on their asses with no label right after releasing their second album...

for the new album, they didn't want to put the success of their music in the hands of corporate douches who could screw them over on a whim.

i don't blame them...

actually...surprisingly, their name has nothing to do with chuck berry....

in the late 90's when they were playing clubs in L.A., a transvesite by the name of "buck cherry" used to frequent some of the clubs that they played...that's where they got the idea for the name.

just got back from vegas.. and two things about buckcherry fired me up... the first was hearing crazy bitch being blasted at a bar called the rainbow.. accros the street from the hard rock.. and the second wich was a suprise.. hearing "anything" being blasted on the casino floor of the hardrock..   the rainbow also played lit up... but that is a bit more common..  they seem to be pretty popular there.. and rightfully so..  they stand for what vegas is all about...

I like 15, it's got a couple fillers but I love the majority (tracks 12356791011).? It's a pretty cool guitar album, I like alot of the rhythm parts with the stop start action.? Probably my favorite intro and verse is #3 but favorite solo is #9 and overall would be CB and Next to You.? ?

The record store guy I talked to, who knows his shit when I talk to him about every other week, told me that they underestimated the selling of this album and didn't make enough copies and didn't send out enough from what he's heard from other record stores.? Maybe this has something to do with their low chart position.?

For those that have seen them live, how are their shows and what kind of energy do they have?? I'd imagine they just blow up the place.? I missed them earlier this year and am still kicking myself.

[raising their ever-important post count by responding to everyone who disagrees with their thoughts on an 80's punk band that turned into a band geared towards selling albums with a great guitarist and rhythm section, but with a singer who flat out can't sing.

to the gentleman who thought buckcherry's debut chart position wasn't all that impressive. I work at best buy and every store in the chain is sold out or very limited in the amount of copies. Considering this is the first release for an indie label and the album has had absolutely no promotion of any kind, other than sending the single to radio and touring like madmen there has been no corporate push to promote this thing at all. If you look at most albums from bands on indie labels they chart very low and stick around or never at all. And now that's what i call music has sold more copies in the last ten years than guns n roses, i suppose that means they are much better than gnr or anyone short of the backstreet boys.

i've had this cd for quite a long time. it was released in Japan back in October. I was so fucking happy to find out that they are back!! now, they need to be the opener for GnR on their USA tour.

i've seen them twice in concert and they absolutely rocked the place. The first time i saw them i was actually giving Keith cigarettes throughout the show. He hooked me up with guitar picks in return.

Does the US release of 15 include "back in the day" and "pump it up"?

man I just listened to 15 for the first time in over a week, and this album really flows.

What do you guys think will be the next single?  Carousel or Sorry?

Of course we'd all prefer rockers to be singles but that doesn't happen in the radio world so I'm guessing 'sorry' will be their next 'for the movies'.

haha... i was kinda close... thanks for the correction

also i think Next to you will be the next single... i'm not sure if thats official or not.. but there is a video for this... i'll try to find a link for it... i think that its a good choice for a second single... then release sorry. carousel or everything.. as a third... thats a pretty good 1,2 ,3 punch..
would it be completely assinine to rerelease riddin and a slow song from time bomb?  i mean.. once this album runs it course.. i think there are some really good songs on that album too that got totally over looked when they released.. porno star was funny but a terrible song to release.. timebomb is an awsome song too.... so is slammin

Title: Re: Buckcherry

Yeah I agree with you on Next 2 You as a single, I think it will be released third however, and then if it gets to a fourth it'll be Carousel.  I don't think record companies have time to sit on a top 40 hit like Sorry, although it may be different with these guys since they're independent.

That's cool about the video for N2Y, I didn't know that.

looks like buckcherry got signed by atlantic records.. this is great news for the band.. hopefully this will push them into the mainstream.. here is the article

Acclaimed Rockers Buckcherry Ink With Atlantic Records; Deal Launches With Current Hit Album, "FIFTEEN"

NEW YORK, NY -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 05/10/2006 -- Acclaimed rock 'n' roll band Buckcherry has joined Atlantic Records via a long-term deal with Eleven Seven Music. The worldwide pact (excluding selected territories) launches with the band's current hit album, "FIFTEEN," which will be marketed by Lava/Atlantic Records effective immediately.

Atlantic Head of A&R Andy Karp commented: "The reemergence of Buckcherry is an exciting moment in modern rock 'n' roll. They are a great band that has yet to realize their full potential, and 'FIFTEEN' is a fantastic record that is already bringing them the recognition and success they have long deserved. We are thrilled to welcome Buckcherry into the Atlantic family."

Allen Kovac, CEO of Eleven Seven Music, noted: "The first lesson in artist development is make a great CD. Buckcherry has done that with Eleven Seven, and we are excited to be working with the Atlantic team on taking this CD to the next level."

"FIFTEEN," the band's first studio album in four years, was released in the U.S. last month on Eleven Seven Music in association with ADA, a Warner Music Group company. Featuring the current rock radio smash, "Crazy Bitch," the album debuted at #2 on the Independent Album Chart, #9 on Top Alternative Albums (highest debut of the week), as well as #48 on the Billboard 200, marking the band's best sales week and chart position to date. The single has bulleted into the top five at active and mainstream rock radio, into the top thirty at alternative rock outlets, and is continuing to build momentum.

Formed in Los Angeles in 1995, Buckcherry broke onto the national scene in 1999 with the release of their self-titled debut album. The critically acclaimed set scored such Modern Rock hits as "Lit Up," "Check Your Head," and "For The Movies," while fans and industry insiders alike celebrated the band's refreshingly direct, no-holds-barred return to pure rock 'n' roll. In the summer of 2001, Buckcherry released "TIME BOMB," which was followed by a stint opening for one of their long time heroes, AC/DC.

In 2005, following a three-year hiatus, Buckcherry reformed with founding members Josh Todd (vocals) and Keith Nelson (guitar), who are joined by new recruits Stevie D. (guitar), Jimmy Ashhurst (bass), and Xavier Muriel (drums). "FIFTEEN" is titled after the number of days that it took the band to record the album.

Buckcherry is currently in the midst of an extensive North American tour. For more information, please go to www.buckcherry.com

Yeah their album debuted at 48, and D made fun of that... thats #48 on a indie label... lmao.

That's really good actually. I can't believe he dissed a solid rock album. then it's maintained 58-67 on the charts. I call Gold status in 3 months.

I love this cd

Indy labels such as Epitath have shipped. 8 million for Smash. I'm not sure about 1st week sales, but if you want it you'll get it.

in my oppinion i find the 2nd album to be the heaviest album, stronger riffs, less nice chorus's.

the third album "15" isnt as heavy....but its damn funky

Yeah, I saw that. I assume they are going to break it even more with "Crazy Bitch". The song finally broke "mainstream" last week and its current #99 in the U.S. and #4 on the mainstream rock chart. That mainstream rock chart is loaded with quality music.

Go Buckcherry. I believe "Sorry" can be a top 40 hit. What do you guys think?

I'd be suprised if anything that a reunited Guns N' Roses line up (as in the actual GN'R) put out made the top 20 of the Hot 100... So ya, Buckcherry making the top 60 isn't impossible but it is quite unprobable.

PROVE ME WRONG JOSH!

Are you serious?   15 has 3 good tracks and that is pushing it....I've seen Buckcherry 15 times in 4 different states, I am a HUGE BC fan, but 15 is not better than the debut....
15 is being panned by critics and fans alike, where as the debut was being compared to AFD, and they were being compared to GNR

15 is a good album, but not their best..

I agree.  15 is ok - its called 15 b/c they recorded it in 15 days, and at times it sounds like it.  Their first album is FAR AND AWAY their best effort.  Simply amazing disc that still stands up to time and repeated listens.  I think Time Bomb and 15 are kinda on the same level, but the first disc blows them both out of the water.

Drink the water is such a great song.

15 is still MUCH better then most of the crap out there now though.

For you BC fans out there, if you haven't heard "Lit Up" live from woodstock (I think thats where my boot is from??) try to find it.  AWESOME version.

Listen to me, and listen to me now. Spend your money on the new release "15". DOn't by the first one. If I didn't get it for 5.80 on ebay then I would regret it. It's worth 6 bucks (the first album) but not 12 or 13.

Anyways, get the first album if you like the newer one. First buy the newer album though. Don't buy the first one.

15 rocks!

True, if you like BCs sound, all three albums are enjoyable....but the first one has the highest number of REALLY good songs.  Its edgier and harder then the last two as well if you ask me.

Why is everyone stuck on the first BC album?

It isn't that good. It's alright. The first album has about 4 solid songs compared to "15" where it has about 8 solid songs.

15 is their highest peaking album at #48, it has spawned their ONLY Top 100 hit with "Crazy Bitch" at #97 currently and it's just  the best album.

The first album is vague, weak. It's a decent buy for 6 bucks like I said.

nah....first album was awesome....second was a step back - most of the songs were too repetitous...but the new one is at least as good as the first...

here are my ratings for each album (on a scale of 1-10):

1st album (self titled):? ? 9

2nd album (time bomb):? ? 7

3rd album (15):? ? 9

Funny you say that, Pump It Up sounds alot like "wild wild west" (forget the band who sang it, not koo moe dee though, haha).

Carousel would be a MUCH better choice then sorry for a single after next to you (which I think is a great second single - great rock song for hanging out in a dirty pub)

I don't think that Carosel would be a better single...

"Sorry" has all that a power ballad is, it will be their best charting song, I'm sure. It has that potential. Watch it soar.

I know this song has it all for them. I hope it does well. I think that Crazy Bitch is going to stall soon. It peaked from 94 to 92 this week. I think it will start falling soon.

Peace

Update on BC.

"Crazy Bitch" is now up to #81 in America. Their biggest single ever. The album has also peaked at #46 in America.

"crazy bitch" is now at #3 on the billboard mainstream rock charts!!!!!!!!!?

the only bands ahead of them are tool and red hot chili peppers

they knocked off godsmack to take the 3rd spot.

it is a huge deal for this song to be staying at the top among some of the biggest bands of the past decade.

their album sales continue to rise, along with the popularity of the single.

this is only the beginning of what will be the biggest thing to hit rock in years...

yeah its disappointing as the first disc was really solid - 15 is ok, but def not their best effort.  Still, just goes to show you people are starved for good old rock n' roll.  Maybe people who are checking out 15 will look into the older stuff too...

Well the first album did sell well, Lit Up and For The Movies were both moderate hits and the album went gold.  I think that 15 is a very good album, almost every single song on it is good.  I usually skip over songs 4 and 8 but the rest of the songs are good.  So Far, Out Of Line, Sunshine, Brooklyn and Broken Glass are the real standouts, Carousel and Sorry are good mellow love songs, Crazy Bitch is incredibly catchy even though it isn't a great song.  But it's a very good album.  Of course the debut album is great because every single song is good.  When I listen to it there aren't any songs I skip.  Time Bomb has some rockin songs on it too

15 climbed to #43 on the charts, Crazy Bitch is #13 on the Modern Rock charts and #4 on Mainstream Rock

Seems like they're content to ride the Crazy Bitch wave for now, it's not a bad idea.  Once Sorry hits the airwaves, this album will really take off, so they might as well get as much out of Crazy Bitch as they can

Yes as reported above, the album is currently #43 on the charts

And the single "Crazy Bitch" is #61 in the U.S.

This message is for all those non-believers... believe

Just in!....

Buckcherry's new album has climbed to its peak position at #42 this week on the charts.

The single "Crazy Bitch" has now peaked at #59 this week also.

It's a great week for BC fans!!!!!!!

I listen to this album about 5 times a week and still am not sick of it after 2 months.  I love the bridges in all the songs, that's where I think Josh is his best.  Also, it was probably just me but today I was listening to Sorry and felt a little bit of Axl in Josh's deliverance.  I'm sure it was just me but the way he holds certain syllables is reminiscent of Axl for me.  Very cool.

Post by: Thorned Rose on July 18, 2006, 09:21:15 PM
Yeah, this album really is solid. It's an album that has been a missing piece from the rock today.

That is why it's held from 42-65 on the charts. And also why Crazy Bitch has climbed each week from #99 to this week #59 in 12 weeks. This is a true progressive album. Wait until "Sorry" I'm sure it will spill the glass.

Unfortunatly the creatures' debut didn't sell enough, and their follow up sucks. They are done, and it is  because the guitarist left.

Well their album "15" is everything an album is. Debuted at a decent number (45) and has stayed between 65-42 since. the single has slowly climbed every week for 2 months.

BC's new album is already a success.

Thats awesome.  I wonder how the word is getting out about them.  Not like they are playing any major festivals, they aren't getting any video play, I guess its all radio?  Crazy bitch is a good tune, but its def time for another song.  I think a ballad right now would be a mistake.  People are DYING for kick ass, fun rock.  Next 2 you would be good and the vid is cool too.

Anyone a fan of JT's solo stuff?  I think its pretty awesome.  I can put it in a mix with BC songs and it fits just fine.  Shine, Lovely Bones, Mind Infection and Circles are good tunes.

This album is awesome. I'm going to see them live in Louisville on the 27th.

They're okay...Lit Up is great, Crazy Bitch is catchy, but their albums have a lot of filler and people tend to overrate them as a "return to classic rock" etc. - I don't think they're that great. Good, yes. Great, no.

Dude Beautiful Creatures second album rocks I own it. To the guy who said that you liked it better when no one knew about Buckcherry wtf? I don't get these people that want all their favorite bands to stay "underground". The band needs to sell albums to continue going and the more people that hear real music the better. I was  BC fan before crazy bitch and I see what you mean but man I think it's great they're selling a lot. The album is almost gold! I also disagree with the guy that said their albums have a lot of filler. On 15 I think there's only one song I would classify as filler and one I hate. The rest I listen to all the time. Buckcherry are awesomeness.

Personally I like every song on 15 but Carousel and Sunshine and Carousel is just not a style of song I like. Some people like Sunshine but I think it's just a filler song that sounds like a generic rocker. I find their songs recognizable, memorable and out of all my albums I seem to listen to this one the most. I've got a lot of albums. Usually I listen to them for a month or two and then just put 'em on the rack and occasionally spend them. I've had this since like the day after it came out I think in April and I have yet to stop listening to it. I was listening to it just this morning actually. Besides there's not much else going on hard rock wise.I wanna see 'em live.

Too bad they're pretty much stuck to touring clubs. I'm just crossing my fingers that they'll release sorry or everything as a single and it'll blow up huge like Hinder's "Lips Of An Angel" and then maybe they could tour in bigger places.

Buckcherry's label really dropped the ball by failing to follow up on Crazy Bitch with Sorry.  15's on the verge of slipping off the top 100.  They had a ton of buzz with Crazy Bitch and didn't capitalize

I like crazy bitch but it's not one of my favorites. My favorite "rock" song off the album is probably "Onset". I love that song. I love all the songs 'cept for carousel and sunshine. I don't think Buckcherry's label dropped the ball by not released Sorry. I think they dropped the ball by not really promoting "Next 2 You". By the way for those who're interested they filmed a new video for "Next 2 You" by Buckcherry and it's avaliable online.

I think 'Sorry' could be a big hit.? i also think 'Out of Line' is a great track, and has hit potential.? it has a great vibe and great lyrics.

i agree that 'Onset' is the most rockin track on 15.?

'Crazy Bitch' is the most fun track on the album, and the lyrics obviously do a great job to draw attention and the young, hip crowd.

am i the only one who loves Time Bomb? it's still my favorite Buckcherry album.

I think next they should release either "Sorry" or "Everything". Either could be a big hit on the pop charts. I haven't heard Timebomb. I've heard the songs "Timebomb", "Slit My Wrists" and "{segue}Helpless" and like them though. I can't find it in stores. I hope they re-release it like they're re-releasing their first on Oct. 31.

yeah, i think 'Sorry' would be a big hit!  it has that feeling to it... hope it is a single, soon.

damn, i didn't know Timebomb was hard to find.  i have had it since it released, back in 01.  i love the album... i still can't figure out why it gets such bad reviews... but then again, it seems like the best stuff often gets poor reviews, imo.  i hope they re-release it, too!

i still think Buckcherry should be the second opener for GN'R during this tour.  they are a perfect fit, imo!!  SO much better than Papa Roach! (who only has one good song, imo)

just think, it would be Sebastian Bach, Buckcherry, and GN'R.  what an awesome lineup!!!

Title: Re: Buckcherry
Post by: J.J. Cook on October 21, 2006, 06:16:26 PM
Y'know a lot of time history gets altered. Like with Motley Crue's generation swine. It wasn't a huge hit but it debuted at #4 on the charts and went gold + the tour was successful. Popular belief is that it was a complete and total bomb. This is the same for Timebomb I think. Most of the reviews I read for it were positive and the ones that weren't obviously just didn't like buckcherry or that genre of music. Plus the single reached like 7 on the mainstream rock track charts which is pretty good and they toured with AC/DC. I think it simply didn't sell that well because of lack of promotion because didn't Dreamworks fold while that album was out? The album's out of print. The only way I've heard people get it is online from the ocasional copy on ebay or some other store. I can't even find the debut. I saw it once but didn't buy it and then the next time it wasn't there. Luckily it's being re-released with the two bonus tracks {fastback 69 & Late nights in voodoo" that were on the Japanese release and with a bonus dvd that has a  bunch of videos and live performances. One of the videos must've gone unreleased because everyone has said they've never seen the video and I can't find it online. I can't wait to get it and then I believe they're going to re-release timebomb.

I dunno if it's actually sold that many though. The RIAA does certifications based on how many records have been SHIPPED. Last I heard it sold 452 000. But if it didn't sell 500 000 it will for sure. Next to you's rising on the charts and the album stopped decreasing in sales and sold more last week and jumped from 103 to 97 on the billboard 200 I think.

BC, especially when they first came out, were compared to GNR a lot.  Other then the rawness of their first album, I don't really see it too much.  AFD was angry and had that "dangerous" feel to it.  BC is more just raw, sleazy, sex, drugs and rock n' roll - rock.  Its a little more light hearted, not so deep.

BC is definitely one of the few TRUE rock bands out there today though, glad to see them make a small comeback.  I think they should re-release crazy bitch, i think a lot of people still dont' know about it.  its a really catchy song.

Ummm you wont need to.  They toured the UK in the latter part of 2006.  I've been told they'll be back sometime this year.

Emailing management would have no effect.  It's about whether it would make any money.......

In 2006 they played about 5 gigs in the UK (I think).  I know the Oxford Zodiac and the Londen Underworld were both sold out - but they aren't exactly big venues..... a few hundred in each.

that concert last night was fucking crazy! They opened with "So Far" and the place just went nuts! There were crowd surfers, mosh pits, you name it! My friend and I managed to get up to the front of the stage by the end of the show, we were on the right side with that crazy guitarist with the dreads and the tatoos. We were talking to him, going "You rock!' and he flashed us the rock on side. It was pretty awesome, and definetly a great night. The tickets were real cheap. if you like this band, I highly recomend you go and see them!

Yeah, I was there too.  I think it was a real shame that BYB's suffered from the old 'support band gets shit sound' syndrome, cause their set was great and half of the crowd were there to see them rather than Buckcherry.

Buckcherry were great as always.  Stevie D is so animated, and that really adds to their show.  Keith was also much more mobile than usual.

I was there too. Top show. Set list pretty similar (idential?) to London. Although there was no encore.

Josh was jumping around something crazy parts of the time but other times looked a little bored.
Crazy bitch killed (and I almost got killed in the crowd) and was excellent. Lit up as expected went down well.
I got right to the front quite quickly and it wasn't too hard to stay there. There was some moshing and some guy got kicked out for crowd surfing. Another guy got on stage and got taken out ultra quick by security (like something from a Segal movie or something).

Backyard Babies were excellent too and I think made a lot of new fans. Got the crowd warmed up really well.
A good night - they are at Download so check em out if your going.

nottingham was a fucking insane gig!!!

probably the most voilent crowd ive ever dealt with haha, but it was a bloody awesome gig, josh was on top form, though he didnt have a mad rambling or endless stream of swearing during the middle of lit up which was dissapointing cause it makes me laugh.

boring. totally, they didnt do anything for me, the crowd were going wild for them but i couldnt see what was that good, the singer didnt have the charisma to make me think "yeahhh rock n roll" and the music was boring and very same-ish each song, IMO.

Ya see, I kinda have the opposite feeling.  I love Buckcherry, but I think Backyard babies pull off the 'rock n roll' thing as completely natural - wheras Buckcherry try really hard to look rock n roll, but come off a bit cheesey.  Backyard Babies songwriting is also superior in my opinion (hence why Buckcherry have somgwriters help them out on the songs that are hits'.

I think both bands are great.

This is from the official biography on the Atlantic Records website:

"You can hear that intensity on the opening salvo of 'So Far' and in 'Next 2 You,' a collaboration between Josh, Keith, Jimmy Ashhurst and songwriter Marti Fredrickson (Aerosmith). "

and

"there's also the Bic-flicking, Marti Frederickson co-written power ballad, 'Sorry,' "

So there ya go.

Oh, and Crazy Bitch was written when the original band were still together.  It doesn't bother me anyway - I like all of their albums and think they are a good band.  I personally feel that Backyard Babies write better songs.

Those are two songs that Mart added to. But of course neither of them are hits. Maybe "Next 2 You" but that's a minor rock hit at best and the lowest charting of the 3 released from 15. Buckcherry wrote Lit Up, Crazy Bitch and Everything themselves which are/were hits. Just saying.

my floor days are over...officially after the 5/14 GnR performance at Hammerstein.. now days when i go to shows my girlfriend wants to go but she suffers from anxiety and the surge at the 5/14 show was pretty intense being front row center, mid way thru rocket queen she about passed out and she had to get pulled over, which meant i had to get pulled over and i was fuckin pissed.. standing in that line from 10 am to enjoy 20 minutes of a show and the rest of the time being in the back. No More Floor for me

I don't care if they sell out of not, that term is overused so much. The only band to TRULY sell out in my opinion is Green Day.

Buckcherry's album rules, the previous 2 are ok. The 2nd one is lackluster in every way though.

They've only had 1 major hit with "Crazy Bitch". "Everything" is still like #4 on the mainstream rock chart, not on the main chart quite yet.

Is they want another top 100 hit, they need to release "Sorry", best song on the album.

I think I'm going to get tickets to the bad boy tour in Louisville.

i used to think the self titled album was the best.. but there really isn't a bad song on 15.  i think next to  you is the best but they all are good.. timebomb is the weakest but prob the best album released during that awful time in music.  my third fav band behind gnr and pearl jam (91-98).

Nice to hear they are working on new stuff.  I agree about 15 not having any weak songs but the self-titled is still their best album.  15 though was the best pure rock album that I heard from last year though.  Buckcherry are my favorite contemporary rock band, their music has real energy and attitude and they are great live.  It's great that their album is selling well, they deserve it, hopefully they can keep the momentum rolling with the next album

frontside in the speakers at the moment :headbanger:

whats your fav song off timebomb?

id say mine is slammin

Glad to see some other people like that album.  It tends to get slammed, but I quite enjoy it.  Not sure about a favorite track.  Whiskey In the Morning is certainly in touch with the rock n' roll lifestyle.  :hihi:

i cant see what the hate for the album is, its a stripped down ac/dc/aerosmith sounding buckcherry album it rocks.

Ridin is real good. I would say it is up there. Slit my wrists is just ok to me tho. Still I think Timebomb is their best and one of my favorite albums. But the highlights for me are the title track, whiskey in the morning, porno Star, and Slammin'. I could never get tired of any of those songs. Only track I don't really love is You. Honestly I love Buckcherry but I never like how they do ballads. They can't seem to find that middleground. Their rockers are so bad ass it's wonderful but then the ballads always end up sounding wussy to me. "Baby" on the first album is great but I don't think I would consider it a ballad. "Sorry" is awful. It sounds like Styx coulda recorded it.

I like their ballads.  I'm always infinitely more tolerant of a ballad, when I know the band has some serious rock credibility.  But a band that JUST puts out sappy love songs?  Nah, that makes for a boring album.

Hey everybody, this is the first entry in the studio blog for the upcoming record. We came off the road at the end of September and took a few days off, then got right back to work writing and rehearsing new material. Right now things are going well, we've got 5 songs completed as full demo recordings, another 4 or 5 songs that have been written completely, and a boat load of great ideas we're trying to finish. I'm stoked on the new stuff! We got off to a slow start for us, I think we're were all so used to being in a tour bus that it took us a while to settle in. Oh..... and X and I had to ride our choppers from Florida to LA with a few friends to blow out the cobwebs, and get in the right frame of mind for the long studio hours. JT's been spending some quality time in the boxing gym, Stevie's been decorating his new pad, and Jimmy is impeccably dressed, as usual. But... we are definitely deep in it now, and this past week has produced what may be the most ass-kicking songs we've ever written. I'm really looking forward to playing this stuff live, and I really can't wait for you guys to hear this stuff!!! Anyway, I'll have more specifics later on the songs, maybe a few titles, and we?ll keep ya posted as to when we actually start the record. More and this and other useless info soon to follow. Keep the faith!

I agree.  They WERE Indie in the strictest sense of the word (independant label) but certainly they are sleazy hard rock.  100%.   And I love it.

Maybe they mean alternative as in "we're an alternative to all the complete and utter shit that's out there."

Either way, they rock.  Labels mean nothing.

Ha, I think I'm great...

I knew Sorry would be big, and it's #48 this week according to billboard.

They deserve it, it's a solid, great ballad.

No, the band's album 15 has officially moved "1,000,000" copies in the U.S. I don't know what they've done outside the U.S.

Oh yeah, update. THeir biggest single to date "Sorry" which I love so much is charting very high and I'm so glad a good talented band has a nice rock song ont he charts. It's nice to see and it's a rarity.

Solid performance. When bands play Leno they tone it down so much, I hate that.

did anyone  catch the  jay leno show.. it was ok nothing great.. that format doesnt really play to their strengths...  playing a single ballad on network tv isn't really what they do best.. just my opinion.. still grat exposure for the band.  what i did find interesting was the addition of a strings section to the song... does anyone think they will add something like this to their next album.. and produce a november rain esqe tune?  they threw in a piano track as a bonus on time bomb.. so who knows..

I really don't like 'sorry'. I think it's the worst song from any of the 3 albums and completely lacks the energy and groove that I think makes Buckcherry great. I thought the ballads on Time Bomb were just as cheesy and not half as catchy

Now, it sure isn't as good as Check Your Head or For The Movies, but it's a good pop-rock type ballad.  I think Buckcherry realizes what their bread and butter is, they're not going to go away from their hard rock styles.  It's not like they have an Axl in the band who can write an amazing piano ballad, these guys are meat and potatoes rockers and they know what they do best.  But songs like Sorry are necessary to get the type of recognition they need and frankly deserve

Apparently Out Of Line is the next single.  That is a great song, I think in a four way tie with Sunshine, Brooklyn and So Far it's my favorite of the album

Buckcherry Gets Busy On Next Album
Buckcherry

April 14, 2008, 11:00 AM ET

Gary Graff, Detroit
Buckcherry is eyeballing a summer release for its next album, the follow-up to 2006's platinum "15," which spawned crossover hits such as "Crazy Bitch" and "Sorry."

"We're finishing up the songwriting," frontman Josh Todd tells Billboard.com, adding that the group hopes to hit the studio in May with the "15" production team of Buckcherry guitarist Keith Nelson, Mike Plotnikoff and Paul DeCarli. "We're at the hardest point now. We've got a lot of stuff in the can, and the record is f*cking great," he says. "We just want it to be that much better.

"We've just had the biggest record of our career and now we gotta follow it up, and it's not easy," Todd continues. "I feel a lot of pressure. I also feel confident. I feel it all, but we work great under pressure. It motivates me, and it motivates the whole band."

Todd says that while he and Nelson remain Buckcherry's primary songwriters, the group's other members -- guitarist Stevie D., bassist Jimmy Ashhurst and drummer Xavier Muriel, who joined before "15" -- have also been contributing ideas.

Todd adds that the new set is "definitely a rock record. It's not like we're reinventing the wheel. We're a rock'n'roll band. We've just matured as songwriters, and I think it's gonna be more melodic. I'm singing a lot more on this record. There's some really great songs. There's some deep lyrics. I don't want to give it all away, but it's gonna be good. I think people are gonna be happy."

Buckcherry is making the new album under a mission statement to be The Next Great American Rock Band, and Todd says, "our next goal is to be an arena rock band. We want to be a band that can sell out an arena on our own as a headliner."

That said, Buckcherry is rumored to be part of Motley Crue's Cruefest summer tour, which will be announced tomorrow (April 15).

I hope not (even as a lifelong A-smith fan). Buckcherry just don't do ballads well in my opinion. I would love for an album of "So Far" "Timebomb" "Whiskey In The Morning" type songs with no "You" or "sorry" songs on it at all.

well, i think "You" is a really, really good ballad by the band personally. Even if it is really stereotypical.

They're well on the way to releasing the next album :peace:

http://buckcherry.com/LitUp/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=35584

Today is the day. We started writing and rehearsing for these recording
sessions a few months back and now the time has come to put this baby on
wax! we have so many songs now, the biggest challenge is what NOT to
include on the record. A quality problem. True to form we work quick,
afterall we did "15" in fifteen days. We're shooting for the same vibe with
this one, but maybe adding an extra week. Will we call it "21"? Ummm... No.
But, part of what made that record so much fun is we just captured the raw
essence of the band without over-thinking the recording process, and that's
exactly how we're making this one.

Stay tuned for more updates as I'll be taking the time to let you know
what's going on here and how everything is progressing a little more
frequently than before. We can't wait for everyone to hear this new music.
Keep the faith and stay tuned!

Keith

Studio Blog from Keith - May 21, 2008

The BC Express just keeps rollin'.... Just wanted to check in with you all and give you an update on our progress. Thanks to an outstanding rhythm section of Xavier and Jimmy we knocked the basic tracks out in three days. Damn! And we still had time to crown Jimmy the king of the ping-pong table as well.

Everybody's been in high spirits and the record is just flowing flawlessly. We started overdubs a few days later and are almost halfway through, we should have this baby wrapped up in the next 10 days even though we added 2 extra songs that we hadn't anticipated including. We can't wait until this record hits the open air, and I'm sure you'll be getting a few sneak previews when we hit the road in July. Ok, back to work, catch ya very soon.

Keef

looks awesome :)

Hahahaha great tune. I was worried it would be an album full of "sorry" type songs but i'm glad to hear their sticking to what they do best. I love how unapologetic the lyrics are when they do songs like this, "so far", "porno star", "crazy bitch" etc.

sounds like they are trying to make songs in the vein of Crazy Bitch as its there most successful. Thats not a bad t hing, although i hope not all the songs are this moderate pace, i love Buckcherry cause they have mad fast songs, very aggressive.

love the solo in that new song, sounds very hendrix, 60s feeling.

  new music

We're out on the road again, and just played a killer first show on Crue Fest 2008 in West Palm Beach, Florida!

It's come to our attention that one of the tracks off our new album has leaked out on the net. Honestly, we hate it when this shit happens, because we want our FANS to have any new songs first.

HERE is the link to officially find the song "Too Drunk...". We're gonna go try and find time over the next few days to make a down and dirty video for it.

Enjoy the new song and we're looking forward to putting out the new album in a couple of months!

-Josh, Keith, Jimmy, Stevie, and Xavier

the "HERE" is a link to a torrentsite :hihi: that's just funny!

song's kickass "yong, dumb and full of cum"

i didnt notice that before, was that edited in for this video release?

Title: Re: Buckcherry
Post by: JimBobTTD on July 13, 2008, 02:55:21 AM
Yeah, the end solo is based on the opening riff in Hendrix's "Purple Haze". But the first solo starts off with a riff from "Hey Joe". And the song is the (very famous) name of a Dead Kennedys track. I rather like Buckcherry, but this song, albeit rather catchy, has "LAME!!!" written all over it!

We're out on Cr?e Fest, playing "Too Drunk . . ." as part of our set every night.  It's cool to see the killer response we get from the crowd and while we were initially a little weirded out about the song leaking on the internet before BLACK BUTTERFLY comes out in September, we took a day off and made a video for the track for the fans to check out online. The song and lyrics are about my youth and the house party is where it all started.

Maybe Viagra will come to us for an endorsement deal. Ha!

There is a torrent for some new songs from Black Butterfly.  But it looks like it's some scam to attract traffic to some dodgy dating site.  Not sure, the readme says to go to  http://convert.convert2media.com/z/714/CD989/&dp=1614 to create a profile and I was willing to try it out of desperation, but it says that it's not available from my area.

Anyone know if the new leaks are legit?  Supposed song titles:
We Will Rise
Party All Night
Die Bitch

I actually think Timebomb is their best work to date. Many would disagree with that though.

Title: Re: Buckcherry
Post by: ShotgunBlues1978 on August 26, 2008, 10:11:28 PM
The thing with Timebomb is, and this is just my opinion, the good songs are really good but there are more bad songs than any album they've done.

Frontside, Timebomb, Whiskey In The Morning, and Slammin are some of their best songs.

Ridin, Porno Star, You, and the hidden piano track are all good.

But Place In The Sun, Underneath, Slit My Wrists, and Fall could easily be the 4 worst songs they've put on any of their albums at least IMO

i think timebomb is great.  Ridin, slammin, and timebomb are some of there best tracks.  the ballads are good too.  i really like all of their albums but each has a slightly diff sound

Buckcherry- has the most classic rock sound
Timebomb- is the heaviest album
15- is the most poppy.

ya i wasnt too impressed with 15. It had its moments like Sorry and Brooklyn but i didnt really like it overall.

all ive heard off Timebomb is Ridin and i thought it was ok.

i think ill give the album a listen

Gotta say that I'm not as pleased with the new CD as with 15.   It's good, but the first spin doesn't grab me as much as 15 did.   Admittedly after 15 my expectations are pretty high.  :)

It's not out, but if you search "buckcherry black butterfly download" there'll be a link to a rapidshare upload of it (if you don't want to wait for a torrent).

I'm about halfway through, and I can't say I'm horribly impressed.

It's just different.   The song writing is different.  Songs like Too Drunk can easily be comapred to Crazy Bitch as they have that same fun immaturity (don't get me wrong, I love both songs).   Just like Ridin' and Lit Up.

So having been listening to it solidly for the last few hours.

Great songs - all in no particular order:
Rescue Me - we all heard that one.  FANTASTIC rocker.
Tired of You - Sort of on the rock by numbers Buckcherry style format.  Strong riff, good lyrics.  Good track.  Straight ahead rocker.
Too Drunk...  We all heard this one too.  Good fun track.
A Child Call "It" - Kinda reminds me of something that would come from Blink182 for some reason.   Good track.  Different pace to anything from their other CDs in my opinion.
Cream - Has some slower methodical parts, but some great rock parts too.  I LOVE this song, I really do.  Perhaps even my favourite track.  A more mature track.  Not that their previous CDs were all immature music, but I believe that this one shows their progression.
Don't Go Away - I really don't like the intro to this song.  The haunting snippet.   But the song is a great song all the same.  This is the "sorry" for Black Butterfly.
Fallout - Fast paced rock song.  In the vein of Broken Glass.  Love it.
Imminent Bail Out  - another fast paced rocker.  Sounds like it would have been more at home on Timebomb with songs like Whiskey in the Morning.  Great track - if you liked Whiskey in the Morning.

Good songs
Dreams  - power ballad.  I like it.  But it's not in the same league as the others.   Stronger than sorry, has a faster pace.
Talk To Me - I don't think those are Josh's vocals opening the track.  Straight ahead rocker but I'm not big on the chorus.  Not a bad song, just not up there with the others.

Take or leave songs
Rose - another power ballad... Not a bad song, but we already have Dreams and Don't Go Away.
All Of Me - uhmmmm...  slow plodding ballad.  Almost sounds like a nursery rhyme or kids song.  I don't get it.  Leave it.

To put this in perspective, Broken Glass never really jumped out at me till I heard it live, then I got a new appreciation for it and now love the song.  So - 6 months from now perhaps those lists will be reversed. :)

I didn't add ratings.   But having given it some proper time at a decent volume (;)) I'm really loving this release.

The amount of "great" songs seems generous to me, but that is, admittedly, after only one listen.  I felt it to be somewhat mediocre, to be honest, though I plan to give it more than one chance (and at a higher volume, ASAP).

I really like 15, but it didn't hit me at first, either, so here's hopin'!

Yeah to be honest the review was more positive than I thought it might be.   The first couple of listens were kinda quiet last night.   Maybe it was a few more listens, maybe it was just listening to it with much better sound.  Either way it's grown on me more than I thought it would.   The opening for Don't Go Away really turned me off.   That was firmly in the "don't like" pile until I gave it a chance.

A little volume improved it greatly.  You always miss those subtle things in the background when it isn't cranked a bit.  I'll now need a few more listens to really get it.

Apologies if the formatting is butchered, responding through the mobile version of the site.

My SHM-CD arrived from Japan today.

Stunning packaging.  It's a really well put together package with the CD sliding into a cardboard sleeve LP style.

After my first listen to the two bonus tracks:
Nothing - Raw, rough and ready rocker.  Timebomb-esque.

Stayin' High - is a soft ballad.  I can see why they didn't put it on the general relase.   Black Butterfly has some great power ballads on there, and some soft ballads too.  Not a 'bad' song, but we don't need to many of this type of song.

Agreed.  By far their worst album.  I really like Rescue Me, Tired of You, and Fallout.  The rest of it is pretty unmemorable.  Buckcherry's strongest suits were always the raw, unbridled energy and attitude and those attributes are definitely watered down.  Oh well

Definitely worth the 9.99 via Amazon MP3s.  Fallout is a great tune, Rescue Me is rockin.  A few filler songs.  Too Drunk is kinda lame, they were def going for the Crazy Bitch vibe, but CB is actually a good tune.

Good disc.  I wasn't expecting anything to blow me away.  BC is a great band but I know what to expect with them, cock-rock thats fun to drink to.

Probably their best record thus far...If I had to rank them it would be 1.Black Butterfly 2.15 3. self titled 4. Time bomb...Ive seen this band countless times and I was one of the few who did not give up on them when they were broken up a few years back...I went to their first show here in Jersey for the 15 tour and the place was empty...the next show they played a year later was jam packed...its good to see them hit it big again..I will however say they are making a huge mistake with their first single....this was part of the reason 'Time bomb' tanked, because "Ridin" was a shitty single, and one of the worst songs on the record...the same can be said about "Too Drunk"...Rescue me, Dont go away, Dreams are all way better options for a first single...

Not really a fan of Erlewine, but ouch...

1.5 Stars (of 5)

Review by Stephen Thomas Erlewine

Has any party band been less rock & roll fun than Buckcherry? Self-appointed saviors of sleaze, the L.A. scuzz rockers are disciples of the Sunset Strip circa 1987, singing songs of crazy bitches and cocaine, scored to second-hand Aerosmith rip-offs stripped of boogie so they're turned into lead-footed stomps. Rock & roll doesn't need to be complicated ? it's often better if it isn't ? but if it's going to be the soundtrack for a night of binge drinking at strip clubs, it damn well better make wallowing in filth sound irresistible, not drudgery. Buckcherry dutifully hit all their marks on their fourth album Black Butterfly ? the greasy guitar, the snake-dancing vocals, rhythms designed with a Texas lapdance in mind ? so that makes the record no different in form or function than their other LPs, but it nevertheless marks a significant downturn in energy, lacking the stoopid hooks of "Lit Up" and "Crazy Bitch," hooks which now more than ever seems accidental. Here, they piss on the Dead Kennedys, swipe power ballads from M?tley Cr?e, and pluck Guns N' Roses with absolutely no sense of glee; it's dutiful cardboard cock rock. If the band played with any sense of enthusiasm, this could be tempting toxicity ? music you know is bad for you but you can't resist. But Buckcherry is so far gone on the road of rock & roll indulgence they wind up repeating the same stupid excesses not because they're fun, but because they don't know how to do anything else. Far from being the soundtrack to a raging party, Black Butterfly is the flipside of indulgence: Buckcherry is now the sound of a slow slide into the monotony of addiction.

Maybe a little too harsh but I definitely think that their past three albums if nothing else had a totally authentic level of energy and attitude and were flat out fun to listen to.  They were good (if simplistic) songwriters with a great sense of melody and the ability to write fist-pumping anthems but musically and lyrically have never been that good.  It's always been the combination of songwriting and attitude that made them good.

This album isn't much fun.  They didn't elevate or expand upon in a writing sense (except maybe Cream, it's more ambitious structurally and musically than anything they've done), but they lost a lot of the the swagger, attitude and reckless sense of fun that made them one of my favorite contemporary bands.  It's a listenable album but a huge step down from 15

Not really a fan of Erlewine, but ouch...

so what's blink 182 about it? the bass?

IMO it's one of the better songs along with, talk to me, rescue me, fallout, tired of you, too drunk.. and imminent bailout

pretty mych only likes don't go away of the slower songs

Seeing BC tomorrow nite, digging the new record.

There's a couple of clunkers but a good listen for the most part.

"Talk To Me" is currently in heaviest rotation for me...

Shinedown's also on the bill with former Silvertide member - the amazing Nick Perri on lead guitar.

Lookin' forward to it.

they have a few kinks to work out but the list of songs that i like started at 3 and now there are only 3 songs i DONT like

id give it 7/10

Saw the boys last night, good show for the most part.

Setlist was a little disjointed, they broke out "Lit Up" like four songs in, a little too early in my estimation.  "Too Drunk" brought the house down
as did "Crazy Bitch", although a "way too long" version of the latter.

Not a huge Shinedown fan at all..

But..

Seeing Nick Perri (SD lead guitarist) live again was worth the price of admission, the kid is some kind of player.  He's got it all - the chops and stage presence, an absolute rock star.

What is with all this comotion with which cd is best?

Their best cd is clearly 15, very solid album

Black Butterfly is good, although a slight dissapointment to me, cause 15 was so good. I love 15 very much, and BB is good, it's got songs that compare, I mean they stayed to what 15 was about I think....

Too Drunk has a funky beat like Crazy Bitch, and Don't Go Away is simulair to Sorry...

Good effort

15 = B+
BB = B-

For me:

Buckcherry (s/t) 9/10
15 9/10
Black Butterfly 8/10
TimeBomb 6/10

All four albums have a different feel.  BB is not like the others, but if I want to listen to 15 I'll put on 15, not put on BB and bitch that it's not 15.

For me:

Buckcherry (s/t) 9/10
15 9/10
Black Butterfly 8/10
TimeBomb 6/10

All four albums have a different feel.  BB is not like the others, but if I want to listen to 15 I'll put on 15, not put on BB and bitch that it's not 15.

*sigh*

so listening to Time Bomb again tonight...  I was way too harsh on it.  I forgot how much I sometimes love the rawness of this CD.

Timebomb gets a bad rap, but I like it a lot.

Maybe you guys can help me out... Is there any way to get the 3 audio tracks off the DVD (and onto iTunes) from Buckcherry's Self-titled Album (Special Edition)?

Black Butterfly is not even close to their previous three

For me it goes

Self-Titled - 10/10 - best rock album of this style in the past decade
15 - 8/10 - mostly good-great tracks with a couple stinkers
Time Bomb - 7/10 - some of their best tracks ever combined with some of their worse, uneven, but the best songs are among the best they've done

Black Butterfly - 5/10 - dull and soft.  The one thing that elevated Buckcherry above the average rock band was the balls and the energy and the fun.  This album is way too pop, not heavy enough, and they don't have the pure songwriting or musical talent to expand into the pop territory they ventured into on this one

Buckcherry put on a great show tonight in Camden with A7X and Papa Roach...It really dawned on me tonight how awesome Velvet Revolver COULD have been if they didnt get rid of Josh and Keith...good call Slash... ::)

I was very disappointed when they cut Keith and Josh out, I was always under the impression they could have been HUGE.

But, having been behind Buckcherry since the debut, I'm really glad they've found their own success. They deserve it.

BUCKCHERRY Guitarist On AC/DC: 'Musically, The Band Is An Unstoppable Freight Train' - May 15, 2009

Road Crew Magazine recently conducted an interview with BUCKCHERRY guitarist Keith Nelson. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

Road Crew Magazine: You were the co-producer on "Black Butterfly". So how did that differ from playing the musician's role?

Keith: Well, it started with the album "15" kind of out of sheer necessity. Because back when we were looking at making the record "15", not only was there no record deal but there was no money to pay people the ridiculous salaries to come down and produce a record. So, I made a proposition to the band. I said, "Let me do three songs over the weekend and let me produce it and if we like it, I'll make the record. If we don't like it, then we will move on and I won't bring it up again." I also offered to refund the band the cost of the studio time. Those songs were actually "Carousel" and "So Far" off "15". So, it was a boost of confidence for me and it just kind of seemed natural. I feel like we made a lot of records and we have worked with some really cool producers but, I just kind of felt like the band just needed to be the band and we just needed to capture what was going on with it with some subtle pushes in some places. For the most part, everyone can play and there is not a whole lot of direction needed. So, I guess it is kind of my job in that role to insure that we are coming across.

Road Crew Magazine: BUCKCHERRY is doing a campaign right now called the "Rescue Me" campaign to bring awareness to child abuse. Can you tell me how you got involved in that?

Keith: It came about as a result of Josh [Todd; vocals]. He read a book called "A Child Called It" and it inspired the lyrics to two songs on this record ("Rescue Me", "A Child Called It"). Once we got aware of the tragedy of that and the ongoing abuse that occurs, we looked for something that we could be involved in. We didn't think it would be this high profile. We thought we would do it a little more on the down low, but this organization and us are a really good fit. There is an event planned and we have tried to raise a little bit of awareness. We really aren't a very political band. We really like to think of ourselves as a good time rock and roll band but, there have been a few causes that we have aligned ourselves with and this is a pretty worthy one.

Road Crew Magazine: I heard AC/DC is a huge influence on you guys.

Keith: They really are. Their music is just timeless. That is one of the things that is really inspiring. Their music is timeless and they keep doing it, the longevity of their career.

Road Crew Magazine: When you got to meet them, how was that?

Keith: It was incredible. We did a number of shows with them a few years back, they were very gracious and spent some time with the entire band. Their entire band spent time with us after the last show we did with them and it was pretty cool.

Road Crew Magazine: What did you take away from that musically?

Keith: Musically and personally... Musically, the band is an unstoppable freight train. Personally, we live on the road and we meet a lot of bands and it seems like the more successful bands are and the more accomplished they are, the nicer they are. Bands that are struggling and up and coming tend to be harder to deal with and not very personable. When you play shows with bands like KISS, AEROSMITH, and AC/DC and they are just guys hanging out, it is really cool to meet people like that and have them be so cool.

Road Crew Magazine: Are you taking any bands under your wing now?

Keith: I don't really know if we are taking any bands under our wing because I don't really know that we are so established that we have a wing yet. There are definitely bands out there that we like that are maybe one or two steps on the ladder from where we just came from. It's fun to be able to pick bands to take on tour and pick bands to get involved with.

Just listened to the self-titled album for the first time in a while.  They had something special going on for that one.  It's a hell of an album, unfortunately it got buried under the crap that was coming out in that era

If there's a better balls out hard rock album in the last decade I still haven't heard it

i may not like the new album alot.

But Buckcherry are still a great live band. And they are finally playing my hometown, and bringing some great support acts with them, for a cheap price in a pretty big venue.

im definately going!

I thought "Black Butterfly" was their best album, and ive been a fan since 98.  I'm not really digging the new song "All Night Long" though.  I have one word....GENERIC.

New CD leaked recently...scooped it up last night. Its pretty generic. A few good songs at best on it. Guess "I Want You" would be my favorite on there.

Personally, I'll stick with their debut CD and 15  :peace:

Been a big fan of them since the start back in the late nineties. I'm glad to see them enjoying the recognition they should have gotten with their debut and Timebomb, but I have to say I'm disappointed in All Night Long. It's 100 times better than the embarrassment that was Black Butterfly, but Buckcherry-Timebomb-15 blows these two more recent ones away.

Still put on a good show though.
