i live near Bercy, i'll be there.
i've never seen Guns since 1992 at Vincennes.

well, i'm a bit surprised, Bercy is a big venue for Guns.

anyway it's a better choice than Z?nith where the sound sucks a lot.

i wonder who will be the first part to fill Bercy...

I personnally don't have any connections in that venue. Good luck to bring a video camera in, though. Depending on the shows, they can frisk you more or less thoroughly, and sometimes they use metal detectors. Even the thought of bringing in my gear for an audio bootleg freaks me out  :nervous:

A7X is very good, I like them a lot, espescially their 'Waking the Fallen' album is fantastic!

Most of the members are fan of GN'R: often they wear GN'R shirts on stage...

Their touring europe at the moment, they're playing the intro of Paradise City as part of one of their songs.

And ofcourse not the costs for hotel, travelling etc.

Well, I've just changed our return tickets from Lisbon to the 30th of May.

This week I'm buying the tickets to Madrid and back and I'll just wait for Madrid to get confirmed.

Worst scenario, if they don't play in Madrid, we'll get to see Madrid with 140 euros.

Prices will likely be around 45 euros. We don't have much information for now, sorry.

Title: Re: Paris, POPB, France - June 20, 2006
Post by: Will on March 17, 2006, 04:38:48 AM
Well the nearest is Orly but it's mainly for domestic flights. The nearest international is Roissy-Charles de Gaulle (CDG), which is about 45 minutes from Bercy (you take RER line B, you get off at Chatelet and take line 14 to Bercy). RER ticket costs about 10 euros from CDG to Paris. A metro (subway) ticket costs 1.40 euros. More info at www.ratp.info

Yeah, don't bother with planes. Eurostar rocks ! It's pretty cheap and fast (2 hours and 45 minutes now). It stops at Gare du Nord, which is not exactly close to the venue, but from there you only have two subway lines to take, it's not too bad !

Title: Re: Paris, POPB, France - June 20, 2006
Post by: CAFC Nick on March 17, 2006, 08:32:57 AM
Cool sounds good.

How much would these subways cost? Are they dangerous? And how much is the alternative of a taxi?

Title: Re: Paris, POPB, France - June 20, 2006
Post by: Will on March 17, 2006, 09:09:01 AM
Like I said a subway ticket is 1.40 euros. You need only one ticket to go to Bercy even if you need to change lines. As long as you don't come out of the subway, you don't need a new ticket. Yes subway is pretty safe, but Paris is a big city. I mean, you can have problems like in any other big city in the world. Try to travel with a friend that's always better, or try to gather with other fans... ;)

A taxi fare would cost about 15-20 euros to Bercy (one way).

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but you have to take into account that a lot of the tickets were bought in advance by companies who then sell them to their staff at a discount price. At least half of the tickets were gone that way I would say. So it's not only the general public that bought all those tickets so fast.

I don't think half of 17,000 tickets were bought by "C.E"s...If that's the case, I would like to know the source for that information. :) It's true CEs in France buy a lot of tickets, but I would say they maybe have 3,000, not many more...

i've just seen the venue (the 360 degrees picture) and it looks to me very similar to the Ahoy in Rotterdam. P.O.P is slightly bigger but because it's so similar i was wondering if we could expect a special section at the front of the stage...in Ahoy they don't have that...so i thought they also won't have it in P.O.P.

I saw Iron Maiden at Bercy in 2003, are you sure that it only holds 17.000 people? Cause it looked much bigger to me at the time...

I was gonna buy one but I won't risk getting the worst seats in the venue.

I'd like to get a standing ticket but if it doesn't happen I won't fly to Paris to see a show from the top of the world.

I'd rather get one from Ebay, pay a bit more, and make sure it's a standing ticket.

Standing (floor tickets) are available: 39.80 euros. They're called Cat. 2 (Cat?gorie 2).

Plus, it was selling very fast at first so they're adding more floor tickets. Now about 2300 available.

"Half" is just a guess by me. I don't have a source for that. But there are hundreds of CEs in France, and they buy maybe approx 30 tickets each. You do the math. When I see that I arrived so early I could get golden square tickets but seats in the wings (closest to the scene) were unavailable, my conclusion is that they were never made available, ie they were reserved. If you add tickets from the other categories as well, that's a hell of a lot of tickets.
It kind of pisses me off that non-hardcore fans will get the best seats, and at a discount price to boot, but I guess there's not much I can do about it....

I bought mine on Ticketnet, and the carr? d'or is not really close to the stage in terms of angle. Strangely enough, they seem to have positioned it center side. There are better seats than that in the wings.
What do you mean by "good seats" exactly? Do you remember what section it was (non carre or seats I mean)?

Title: Re: Paris, POPB, France - June 20, 2006
Post by: Pandora on March 20, 2006, 05:58:46 AM
OK. The problem is that the number of the row doesn't really mean shit if the angle is bad. That's why I was asking about the section. The best sections are O and F (each side of the stage). And they were never put on sale.

Title: Re: Paris, POPB, France - June 20, 2006
Post by: Pandora on March 20, 2006, 06:16:25 AM
After a bit of research, it seems that a handful of people managed to get tickets in the O and F sections, but not in the first few rows apparently.
The thing is, I panicked a little when I took mine, so I didn't really take the time to check my section and my row. All I saw was an approximate positioning on the map. I figured carr? d'or tickets could only be good. Now I'm looking forward to receiving them to know where I'll be located exactly  ;D

No, not even close.

Unfortunately Rock music is quite marginal here. France is not a country where Rock music is popular like in sweeden or in the UK. Plus, there is no promotion. There are a very, very few articles about the gig and most of them are trash. They trash Axl and say "Slash is not here anymore, it sucks, don't go to the show you will be desapointed".? Sometimes there are some positive comments, but they are just small tiny mentions. I'm afraid of the lack of promotion and of the global negativity (for the momment). I hope it will change...

My tickets just arrived from France. Waiting for me at local post office.
The problem is, that I messed up my VISA and had to use my girlfriends one. Now I have to wait till the weekend when she'll come to my place and take them from post office, because the tickets were orderded with her name.
See ya all in Paris  :smoking:  :smoking:

Flying into Paris from Toronto on the 17th, spending a few days, then it's GNR on the 20th...

Any other Canadians going to be in attendance?

Add me to the list of people from this board coming.  I've been a member for awhile, just rarely post.

I think after Rio, you'll see a big surge of ticket sales.  Smart way to start a tour in my opinion, even if the itinerary is all over the map following.

Cheers,

Andrew

I will be there too. Of course.

About the idea of having a rock party dedicated to GN'R in Paris: I told some of you about this a couple of weeks ago. For now, nothing is 100% sure, but I am trying to make it happen.
It wouldn't be an aftershow party, since it wouldn't be the day of the concert. Maybe the following friday: 23/06/2006.
There would be 2 dancefloors: one would be more "old school" and the other would be more modern.
There would be flyers around several weeks before, so it would also help promoting the concert and GN'R comeback in general.

Marcela, that's what I wanted to do. At first, I tried to see if I could do it on the 16th... But eventually, it will be the 23rd.

I am not doing it by myself. I have people doing it for me in a club in the center of Paris.

But don't worry: There will be around 12000 flyers that will be printed, and I have insisted that thoses flyers should promote the party AND THE CONCERT. I have been very clear about that. I am trying to have the whole thing as cheap as possible for the fans (entrance and drinks at low prices), so the flyers won't be luxurious. But they will be floating around in rock bars, music shops etc...
I will not make any money off that thing, and you probably won't see my name on the flyer (except maybe as a "special guest" since I would be one of the djs...).

For those who might be interested in a rock party dedicated to GN'R, it will definitely happen. June the 23rd.

I am not organizing it. I just convinced the owner of an underground rock/alternative club to do it, and I would be one of the djs, as a "special guest", as they say...
Unfortunately, I couldn't do it exactly as I wanted it to be: I wanted it to be free, but the entrance will cost 10 Euros. I am not making any money off this thing, but the organizers, the team and the owner of the club have to be paid. So sorry: it wasn't possible to make it free as I wanted it to be. It is as cheap as it can be in Paris.

There would probably be a local band playing around the begining of the party. And there would be 2 dancefloors.

GN'R music would be played on both levels.
But there would be a dancefloor that would be more rock/heavy/industrial/alternative where I'll play plenty of GN'R songs (not only the hits like Jungle, SCOM, You could be mine, It's so eay etc... but some food  for the hardcore fans like Right Next Door To Hell or Oh My God). And the second dancefloor would also feature some post-punk, new wave, and gothic stuff (for the regulars of the club).

There will be probably around 200-250 persons...

The flyers (which will annonce not only the party but also the concert) should be ready very soon. Nothing spectacular, really, but hundreds (if not thousands) of people will hear of GN'R comeback this way...

If board members want to come, just pm me, and I'll give more informations...

Will, can I send you a private message to tell you more?

Looking for gold circle tickets ( 2) .

Will pay them the price you bought them, no more. Have two tickets lower cat, so not desperate. Do not intend to pay extra money unless fees to send it to me ( mail fees).

And royalty rarely goes to the Ritz ( mohamed al fayed being the owner), they usually go to the Plaza Athenee ;) ( sweden does)

There are poor Guns fans and rich ones, anonymous and celebs, same for the da vinci code fans.

Tour operators head towards paris, the Cannes Festival opens wit hthe Da Vinci code in a few days, Paris is going to be INVADED until the hype dies down.

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ROOMS BOOKED in cheap and luxury hotels.

The Da Vinci Code release and the show are one month apart. I doubt the former will have much impact on the latter.

That being said, Paris is always pretty crowded from June onwards, so making reservations early is always a good idea.....

The news today already report the code impact and the film is not out yet.

So you can bet that it will be mutiplied as soon as the film is out.

Most people love a good " mystery" and tour ops propose the whole thing, st sulpice church, the louvres, the Ritz even ( because part of the action is IN the Ritz)...

Hi Will!

Originally, I wanted to make this party happen before the concert because I wanted to participate in building the excitement for the other fans like me. But in the end it wasn't possible on the 16th like I wanted. So the 23th was the best night I could find to do it. Then again, I am not organizing it. I just convinced people to do it. They are used to organize underground/alternative rock parties and gothic/eletro parties, but they thought it might be a good idea. I had them test it by playing a couple of GN'R songs to the regulars of their clubs and it worked, so they decided to trust me on this one. Wich is cool, because it shows how GN'R have credibility again after all these years when people didn't want to believe in them anymore. All the true fans know what I mean: it wasn't always easy to stand up by the band during these years of silence, but I am glad I have always done it no matter what.
On the 23th, there should be different types of music played. Maybe a rock band will plau at the begining, but I don't know: it is not in my hands... What I can tell for sure is that there will be one dancefloor totally dedicated to GN'R and rock music. On the second dancefloor, apart from GN'R, they might also want to play some post-punk, 80's, dark stuff for the regulars of the club, but I am not totally sure...

Anyway, I'll send you an e-mail mainly to invite you if you want to come...

PS: I saw you helped the magazine "Rock Hard" for their article about GN'R... That's really cool! You're  a true dedicated fan!

I hope Axl won't lose his voice till that  :nervous:

Maybe I should make my own Da Vinci Code tour for me and my gf, while we're in Paris  ;D

give us a shout if you have a problem  ;)

Hey, thanks  :)

Since this trip and GN'R show is a present for my gf, I'm in charge of thinking about tours and things to do in Paris. It would be nice if I could contact you sometime before my trip and you could tell me about some nice places to see and go (the ones that most tourists don't know).  Anyway, I booked our hotel in Monmarte. Not because it's cheaper, but I don't know other neighbourhoods so well and I liked it very much, when I was in Paris some 2 years ago  :D

No problem.

By then, make sure you told me about your tastes in general so i can work something out for you two.
There may be things you won't want to see as you have no interest in them. And i'll try and find stuff that most tourists don't know about ( although paris will be crowded everywhere i'm affraid ?)

You will be in Montmartre ? Right. Oki.

if you want to contact me, no problem, but make sure we have worked it out two weeks before you get there because i have a small son and i need to plan things out.

The show is in just 7 days. The exitation starts growing, and Izzy will be there? 8)
It will be a big show.

Hi,

I want to Watch the England v Sweden Game before going over to see GNR. Axl Probably wont come on until ten so that gives plenty of time to get there after the game, if there is a decent bar locally.

Is there anywhere near to the stadium that is good for watching Football?

Thanks

I have a DVD player at home! ;D

Guys, we'll have a meeting near the arena at the bar called le Pataqu?s around 4PM. I'll have a black GN'R t-shirt from the 06 European tour. You'll find us. You can see my pic in the gallery or on my site if needed.

For people asking: yes there will be taxis around the arena but as for every show they will be pretty busy tomorrow night. Yes, Paris is pretty safe, except in the northern suburbs (St Denis, Bobigny, etc.) and northern districts (18th/19th/20th). Other than that, that's cool.

I won't be updating the site (I'll be at the show), my friend Lucs will do it. If you insist he will update in English too. ;)

Well heres my review of the france concert.
I was with my friend and we arrived at Bercy at around 5. We proceeded to a local bar and we had an england football top on show to see if any other brits were there......didnt work. Anyhow we went to a bar by bercy and we spoke to some call French guys about GNR for about an hour. They all left by 9:30 but we stayed in the bar to watch England vs sweden.
By half time of the match no soul was left......all have gone into the stadium expecting GNR to start soon
But as ive been to hammersmith (10:40 start) i didnt expect axl to turn up early, so we watched the first half of england sweden before we went to the gig.
The stadium was packed, our seats were not close enough,  i enjoyed the concert but with 4 songs to go I blagged my way into the front by telling the bouncer i was there before! (he didnt dispute! i was let in) I managed to get three rows from the front and got a leg-up and crowd surfed to the front! just 1 meter from axl!
Anyhow..........after the concert ended I went with my friend to where the GNR coaches were. There was tight security. One girl left the compound.....she had a VIP sticker. I asked for it. She said "Have it and see how far it gets you"
So, there I am. In the GNR compound, looking into the coaches to try an see a band member. No one was around...until... I met Good ol Ron Thai. I asked him if he could see my friend Tone. He said "thats cool" and he even shouted "Wheres Tone!" (my friend got his autograph on his T shirt)
I asked Ron why they were so late tonight (10:45) he said that axl was watching England Vs Sweden. (so we could have stayed at the bar for the whole game!!!)
Anyhow, the GNR bouncer clocked me and threw me out...........only for me to get back to the enclosure...but no GNR soul remained.

You weren't the only Brit there  ;)

I kept checking the score during A7X and during the GN'R sound check. You might have also heard me shout BOLLOCKS during one of the solo's because i found out Larsson scored in the last minute  :'(

The best rock magazine in France, 'Rock & Folk', has reviewed gnr's Paris show in the latest issue...

It's a very short article. The new songs have been described as 'square'. :-X
