Hot on the heels of their sell out shows last week in Las Vegas, San Francisco and KROQ's Inland Invasion in Los Angeles Guns N' Roses announce the first leg of their "Chinese Democracy" North American Tour.

The tour which will kick off on the 20th of October in Jacksonville, Florida finds the band in top form having spent the summer in Europe playing to 700,000 plus people over 32 shows in 18 countries, making it one of the biggest tours of the year on the continent and in the UK. Concert goers were not let down as Axl Rose and his band mates Dizzy Reed, Robin Finck, Richard Fortus, Tommy Stinson, Chris Pitman, Brain and Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal burned through classics such as "Welcome to the Jungle," "Paradise City," "Nightrain," "Mr. Brownstone," "November Rain" and "Sweet Child O' Mine" as well as highlighting soon to be favourites from the forthcoming "Chinese Democracy" album.

Just this week, the Hollywood Reporter's concert review of KROQ's Inland Invasion observed, "when headliner Guns N' Roses took the stage everything old became new again - and everything new on the bill, just couldn't hold a candle in comparison... the night belonged to Guns N' Roses!"

There is not a chance in God's creation they are releasing the album 12/26. Considering that retailers do almost 25% of their yearly sales during the Christmas shopping season, I don't see the label purposely missing it. Not to mention that 1st quarter sales (January-March) are typically awful for music releases.

Dude, that would be a horrible release date.  Just horrible...(from a marketing perspective) If the label chooses to do things right this time then the album should come out in November and early December at the latest.

Too much money has gone into this album. If it is indeed coming out, it's coming out in Q4 to capitalize on Christmas sales, and that means between now and Dec. 24.

When would be a better time?  Only MAYBE a Sunday night...so that its there for all Monday morning, but we are grasping at straws here..

Typically the beginning of the week gets you the most media exposure. Old rule of thumb is that you always release BAD news on Friday/Saturday so that it gets lost and forgotten about in the news cycle by Monday. Guess whoever is running management missed class that day. :confused:

My prediction:

-Single in October
-Album in November
-Axl in a hot tub with hot chicks every night after the show

While this is true, it is still dwarfed by black Friday after Thanksgiving. There is no way the label would purposely plan to make sure the album isn't in stores for the 5-6 biggest shopping weeks of the year. Not even they are that stupid.

I would not be surprised if the album gets 'Unleashed' with very little prior notice. That in itself would create a huge buzz.

O.k. I thought about this. I DO think December 26th is the date. Boxing week is huge for retailers and a Boxing Week release would have a massive impact on first week sales in my opinion. Theres' likely more shopping done the week after Christmas than any week leading up to it. Also if Gn'R are gonna promote this the way other big acts do there will be about two months between first single and album. Thats' how U2 did it, That's how The Killers are doing it right now, I believe that's how RHCP just did it. The second single useually hits very shortly after the album has been released. Unless Gn'R has some better promo plan than all these other bands I don't see why they'd do it any differently. So a single in mid-late October, Album release on December 26th and second single in January. Just my Opinion. maybe I'm way fucking off though who knows.  :beer:

It's supposedly going to be around 13 tracks if I remember correctly what Axl said earlier this year (?). If they release it when I think they will (November 21st), then it will most likely be priced around $14 for the first 3 days (Tuesday through Thursday) but then SLASHED down to $9.99 or lower on Black Friday that week. Wal-Mart and other retailers will really drop the price on a hot new item like that. It may hurt the overall money made from it, but it will definitely help the NUMBER of albums sold (which would be awesome).

My birthday is November 26th. I honestly cannot think of a better birthday present than this album being released, other than obvious things like my dad finally getting healthy (he's had a rotten year with all kinds of health problems).

Yep, most definitely. As great as it will be to get CD, I'll never forget how excited I was to find out about the Eddie Trunk interview and to actually listen to it LIVE. Most folks didn't manage to find out about it until the next day. As the guys on the radio mentioned, it was like talking to Howard Hughes or something. Absolutely incredible to hear Axl talking about everything. He had some hilarious shit to say. HAHAHAHA.

At least in the American market the news cycle is typically thought to be 24-48 hours, hence most businesses/politicians and other entities release bad news on Friday/Saturday so it is forgotten about by Monday when the world resumes.

By releasing it on a Friday, it will illicit very little media attention because by Monday it will be old news. I am just a little surprised this wasn't done at the beginning of a week to give it a solid business week of exposure while it was still at its freshest point.

Oh well, at least it is something. Surely better than what we have had in the past.

What a great day for me as a GN'R fan.  Got floor seat tickets for my first ever GN'R show in Toronto, and now this.  It's very overwhelming.   :)

Yeah, it's pretty freakin' cool. With Ad-Block you can right-click and block image based ads. Flash banner ads are hard to kill, but there's this thing called "Filterset G." The guy who created it figured out the code behind Flash based ads and if you have Filterset G loaded into Ad-Block, it will automatically clean up crap on many websites like ESPN.com, CNN.com, etc. Apparently ArtistDirect is included in his code because I opened it in IE and there's a shitload of flash banner ads. LOL.

I know alot of us have been speculating possibly a November 21st release date, but it just dawned on me that rumor is Jay-Z is releasing his comeback album "Kingdom Come" that day as well. ?While they don't compete in the same genre, that album is almost assured to move an insane amount of copies.

Is it important for Guns to pick a date that will garner them a #1 album or does it not even matter at this point? I want the album, but I also don't want it being swept away by something that finishes #1 the week its released.

I'm hoping its something similar to that, but I can't envision any of the songs we have already heard, except maybe "Better" in such a package... so I hope if this is true, it will be an all new song.

That last statement is pretty much impossible. I'm sorry, but from what I've heard of the leaks, CD will not be as good as Led Zeppelin II, Led Zeppelin IV, Dark Side of the Moon, or Appetite For Destruction. However, if it is a more solid effort than the UYI albums I will be a really happy person. Both UYI albums are pretty good, but they've got some obvious filler on them. I just hope it's a kickass album and the best we've heard in the last 18 years perhaps (but I highly doubt it could be the best ever).

Filipe, "Greatest Hits" in 2004 debuted at #3 on the charts and I don't remember any hype around that album at all. In fact, the hype was NEGATIVE b/c the band itself was against the release of the album. CD is the most anticiapted album ever without a doubt. As someone else mentioned, die-hard fans will be buying probably 3 copies each at the MINIMUM. It will sell a ton of records the first week and I wouldn't be shocked if it beat out a rap album. But don't think it's going to sit around for a year completely unknown like Appetite did.

It is kind of a catch-22. The 21st of November is strategically the best date out there, but you also don't want to run the risk of getting swept away with Jay Hova's big comeback album, as you know that MTV and other various music publications will be having themselves a wet dream over it.

I want Guns to have all the spotlight to themselves, at least for a week. I hope maybe we see an earlier November release and get a couple good weeks under their belts before Emninem and Jay-Z come along in late November/early December.

But if Axl had just said that he was retired when the band broke up, no one would expect any kind of release and so the last 10+ years wouldn't be so hard on the die-hard fans.

Here's a thought , what if non of the leak songs are on the CD album ,

Filipe, when that first single comes out (I hope it's "Better" of the leaks unless there is something more kickass that we haven't heard yet), it will re-introduce Axl as a kickass frontman and it will help build a legitimate foundation for the other band members. I'm pretty sure that CD will sell 500,000+ copies its first week, and with the Black Friday boost...it might get near 1 million. We'll just have to wait and see, but I think you're underestimating the hype around the album.

I was originally thinking mid-november for release date.
But now I am thinking late october. ? Specifically October 24.

Here are my reasons: ?
1) Show rescheduled leaving gap between Sept warm up shows and October shows. ?This gap could be used for interviews and other promotion. ?Also could be filming a video. ?Anyway, the gap in between Sept dates and Oct dates seems to planned for a reason.
2) ?Bumblefoot mention (according to a post) that there would be no change in setlist for Sept shows but could be changes in Oct shows. ?Why the Oct show unless there is some change in the status of CD, such as release or at least a single. ?
3) Partnership with MLB. ?Oct is a big month for MLB playoffs and the World Series. ?This would make a for good opportunity for promotion. ?And in mid-Nov, MLB season is over and any kind of promotion partnership would not make since after then.
4) Late Nov through Dec is out. ?Labels rarely ever release major albums during this time because of the holiday shopping season.

Just my thoughts.

Uh.....that is WHY major labels release big albums during that time. You think Jay-Z and Eminem would release albums on Nov. 21 and Dec. 5 if that was a traditionally slow time for sales? That is why we have a good chance of seeing a Guns release during that time.

I think it's cool that are having a partnership with MLB. I tried to win a raffle for a White Sox Championship ring. The White Sox were doing this raffle to commerate their World Series win last year. I bought a ticket with the hope that in the slim possibility that I would win I could give it to Axl because he likes bling and in my mind he is a true champion in the way that he has reinvented GNR. Anyway my ticket number was 20857 and the winning number was 20867. That was just too close!!!!!It was cruel!

I worked at MLB.com this past summer as a freelance video editor, as a matter of fact I'll be there this weekend, working the final regular season weekend. Basically MLB.com is a website where you can go to see highlights of that day's ballgames, look up stats, order MLB merch, buy tickets, and, for a fee, listen to any game or watch any game being played. MLB.com has a reputation as being the best run, & best organized website for streaming video in the business. The last March madness College basketball tournament was streamed through MLB.com's web servers - so was the last Soccer World Cup. Having said that, even though it is run by Major League baseball, it doesn't necessarily mean there will be some sort of "partnership", or advertising, during the playoffs & World Series - many bands are partnered up with MLB.com - Def Leppard, Live, Cheap Trick, & Tom Petty are, & I don't recall seeing any mention of them while watching MLB games this summer - basically, what they do is sometimes come to the MLB.com studios, give interviews which are then seen on MLB.com, or they'll perform in Studio, again with the video being seen on MLB.com, or, in Def Leps case, we'll send a camera crew to the concert, then edit a "package" & show it on the MLB.com website. ?MLB.com is also partnered up with a website called "Rehearsal.com" which is a very, very cool website where bands allow themselves to be videotaped in their rehearsal studio, & shown on the site. Tom Petty & Dave Navarro's band were a few who come to mind who've been featured. ?One more thing, & i noticed this the first day I went to work there, & this MIGHT explain a little bit how this partnership came to be - Sanctuary(I don't know if it's their headquaters, or a satellite office) and MLB.com are in the same building in NYC. They are in the Chelsea Market building, on 9th Ave & 15th Street.

First of all, none of us are record execs, music marketers, and or anything to do with the record industry when it comes to publication or marketing. ?Saying that December 26th is the perfect release date is groundless (who was the person who said more shopping is done the week after Christmas than all the weeks leading up to Christmas... ?I'd like to get a source on that one).

Second, if you really want Chinese Democracy #1, it's simply a matter of the release date. ?Just look for a week without any releases from big artists and you have your number. ?Look at the movie industry. ?Simply releasing a movie in late August through September gives a producer a better shot of achieving the coveted #1 spot. ?But I hardly think that when it comes to Chinese Democracy people are going to buy something in its place. ?What matters more I suppose is the number of copies sold on its open week. ?If say, JayZ sells 700 000 copies and GNR sells 600 000 copies, does that mean it's not a success? ?Really, who cares if its number one or not. ?Perhaps some people are on here are hoping it makes #1 to justify the wait they've gone through. ?Not saying it's easy being a GNR fan, but whether the album is a success or not shouldn't really matter to you and I. ?I hope it is for the band's sake, but other than that, I see no reason for any vain need for it to be a smash.

The bottom line, based on the press release, the album will be out in the next couple of months, we have a massive GNR tour to look forward to, its time to enjoy the music my friends.

I definitely think the leaks were promotional. IRS was a throwaway since Piazza had already leaked a version of it. TWAT and Better were what they gave us to whet fans' appetites, to help get curiosity flowing and excitement.

Think about it - if they had started another tour all of a sudden without us hearing any material, would we have been quite as excited? A lot of us probably would have been skeptical and expected another 2002.

Also, think about how many times GN'R got their name in the news with the leaks - not wide, main headlines but they were featured in a lot of entertainment articles and got airplay...IRS peaked on the radio rock charts!  :hihi:

Most likely.  I go to the U so I am around that area. 

Meh, Axl has been telling us almost every year since 2000 that the album will be coming out, and there's always a delay.

In 2002 I was at a Gn'R concert, watched the first 2 opening bands play, and then Gn'R didn't show and there was a riot.

During that morning you would have been fucking crazy to tell me that Gn'R wasn't going to show and the album wasn't going to come out for at least 4 more years... but it was the truth.

The website opening up is nice, and all the promices from axl are promicing, but until I have that album in my hands, I just sit here waiting for another delay. ?I've had my hopes broken too many times by Axl. :nervous:

bach supposidily had a major announcement about this and him on a show on fox 2night/last night

"...with Sebastian hitting the stage every night at 8 pm followed by the Special Guest at 9 pm and Guns N' Roses shortly after 10 pm and lots of great music in between."

Whoever wrote up this press release must have a fast watch.  Only time I've ever seen GNR perform shortly after 10 pm was in 2002 at MSG (actually, it may have even been before 10).

I'm surprised nobody noticed this.  Guess too much good news at present time.

My guess is that since they are being cyptic with the 13 Tuesdays deal that the realease date will be in 7 Tuesdays time on Nov 14.
7 is The Chinese lucky number and I think it would be a cool little tie in.

Im hoping on the site they will talk of an Australian tour in late Jan thats been rumoured for a while. One of the main papers here in Melbourne said that Guns were the rumoured headline act of 07's Big Day Out.
Combine that with Sebastian Bach saying he should be back with Guns in the summer and its looking good.
But I did think that Sebastian is such clown that he meant The U.S Summer...  :P

Well I mean, the site is supposed to be up soon, so the people will get the info from there. I think the message just came from Merck and that's the only real source. I guess it had that Gallagher or whatever dudes signature or something tho. That was no help...

Well shit....I turn on my computer this morning and what do I see?.....A GNR PRESS RELEASE AND A PARTNERSHIP WITH MLB........HOLY FUCK....UMMM....HOLY FUCK.....There will be an announcement before the tour about the date CD will arrive in stores I am assuming...GNR has a lot of seats to fill and that is the only way to do it...... : ok:

So what does MLB have to do with this?  Maybe a big push during the world series?  For Spiderman 2, The Spiderman logo was painted on the bases the first time anyone had ever advertised like that.

I Agree with Jarmo, but can't you see better playing during like replays and promos for the games... Or Madagascar, Iwont be told anymore, then the guitar parts for the underdogs. I mean it sounds out there, but I could see it happenin like somehow if it was me doing the music to the plays...  :nervous:

What really sucks is that both dates that GNR are playing near me are on weeknights. It's too bad one of them wasn't on Thursday instead of that Wednesday, as we'd have Friday off due to a holiday.

If only Axl started on time, my hubby and friends wouldn't have a problem going on a weeknight. Unfortunately, all have to work the next day and aren't willing to go, knowing his habit of taking the stage excessively late into the evening.
