I ll be there too ... Hope it tops the show I went to in NY 05/14/06, I'll probably go to estero too.. I saw Motley crue playing there in February.. It's a small venue compared to the Bank Atlantic Center which is huge!!, Estero only has 2 levels, so pretty much you can have a perfect view from anywhere... FINALLYYY THE WAIT IS OVERR.... GNFR!!!!!  :peace:

I've been wanting to see GNR since I was in high school!  Just never had the resources...  NOW I'M MAKING THE RESOURCES!  I am 100% positive that I'll be there at Bank Atlantic!  I might be able to give some board members a ride from the Stuart area or anywhere south of there.  Get ready for an awesome tailgate party!

Please count me in on any presale info!

Post by: MisterSaintLaurent on September 13, 2006, 04:43:02 PM
I will be at this show for sure. It seems like it was just yesterday that the Tampa & West Palm shows were cancelled. I went into a major depression after that. It's almost too good to be true that GNR will finally be returning to Florida. I don't think they've been here since '91, although I could be wrong. That's the last time I can remember GNR coming to Florida. I wasn't allowed to go because I was only 8. If I'd known the wait would be so long for them to come back, I would have performed criminal acts to find a way to attend.

I don't know the road, but you are very close from there. I'd say about 10-15 minutes tops.

Depending on the time of day, traffic on Sunrise can be a nightmare. I go to the venue for hockey games all the time. An alternative is just take Hallandale west to Flamingo and go north until you hit Panther Parkway andd turn left.

Once you get past University Boulevard, heading west on hallandale, traffic should be pretty easy. 595 west to Flamingo is another option but at that time of the day stay clear  of it.

Maybe I can come by, maybe not.. But I cant drink :P
Ill deffintely be in front of the venue early though, someone shuld bring a boom box, and we shuld blast GNR  :) ( I would, but Im being dropped off so dont have a car to put it back when we're done)

The bahama breeze has a great outdoor area...there's even a mooching gator that shows up from time to time! maybe they can set it up for the gunners. it's worth investigating.

and coming from hallandale the poster that said to take flamingo is right on. another thought, if you go after 6:30, take 595 to flamingo.

should be a good night in sunrise! 8)

Ok, I was yesterday at the bank atlantic center for the Gigantour with Megadeth... I was so psyched that in only 16 days I was gonna be back at the same place for the GNR concert.. at the Box office and at the entrance flyers were given away promoting th GNR concert,, That was cool.. Inside I can tell u I expected more people to attend this show,, abt 60  to 70 % of the venue was empty, the third and fourth levels were closed for the public, Floor was general admission, ANd damn these guys were killing each other down there, moshpits all over the place with crazy big guys that I bet just went to the concert to kick some butt.. I 'm not a big fan of Megadeth, but I got the tickets for free,, so I had to check it out... Anyway,, I 'm pretty sure there ll be more people for the gnr concert, and that we' ll have an awesome time...    :smoking:

I seriously cannot wait for this. I'm glad I finally get to see this band regardless of the line-up. I was going to see them in 2002 but ofcourse it was cancelled, so I missed them and CKY - I actually still have my tickets from that. I really dig all the members of this line-up - of course I'm a major fan of Buckethead but from what I've seen from Ron, I'm glad he's in instead - he definately seems the part and his skills just blow me away. Too bad I took too long toying with the idea of getting floor tix, so I have section 108. I'd love to be on the floor but that just isn't going to happen, especially since I'm going with a Friend.

Hope to see all you fellow Gunners there. Take care all.

The cool thing I like to do for musicians I enjoy, is burn them a few bootlegs and give em all to them. Unforunately I don't think I can do that for GNR. I tried doing it for Pearl Jam once and wanted to give it to their sound engineer but I wasn't given the chance really. I just want to give back to the artists I enjoy whom will my mind with the great music they make. I know where the over-hang it where they come in for the arena but if you've been there, you'd know it's a long way down to drop those CDs.

I've got a friend who works at that Bahama Breeze. I've got to get in contact with her and see if she's still working there. I haven't spoken to her in a long time. For all I know I could get all of us in there, if there's a pre-party. Please do NOT relay on me though to get in quickly. I doubt I'll get a hold of her before or on the 24th.

In a perfect world, yes.  I've been to one GA show in Sacremento where the GA list had actually formed 3 days prior to the show(non GNR).  The day of the show, the venue said we won't honor that list.  Until the band's security got involved and said they would honor the list.  This was an entire floor with GA, and the first 15-20 yards from the stage were sectioned off.  The 400-500 people who were there first, picked a number, for example, person #68 drew #1, then 69 would be #2, 70 #3 and so on.  Be organized and don't raise any hell until you get your spot. : ok:

Hey y'all...some questions....
What place are you coming from?
The north or the south?

Also, there's a chance
My wife may be unable
To attend the show.

If anyone needs
A ticket for the concert,
Reply or PM.

There is a downside...
You'd have to be seated with
Annoying ol' me!

JUST GOT BACK FROM THE SHOW!!!!! and............................. IT KICKED SOME MAJOR ASS! This is my fifth time seeing them (Las Vegas 01, Minneapolis 02, Fargo 02 and Chicago 02) and I can honestly say that this was the best show I've ever seen. Band sounded tight and the crowd was live as fuck (mainly because they didn't have chairs on the floor!)

Doors opened around 7:30pm. I went in and stopped by the merchandise stand. They had a lot of stuff including a GN'R hockey jersey for $100! I went with a T-shirt with a yellow GN'R symbol on the front and the tour dates on the back and a banner to hang up in my new apartment. Then I grabbed a burger and a beer and went down to the floor at about 8pm where Sebastian Bach had already started playing!

Baz sounded great! He played around 5 new songs of his new bands and about 5 old school Skid Row songs! They were 18 and Life, Piece of Me, I Remember You, Monkey Business, and Youth Gone Wild! I'm a pretty big Skid Row fan so I was very pleasantly surprised. He said his album is coming sometime in 2007. It probably won't tear up the charts or anything but it should be worth checking out.

Sebastion finished up at around 8:40 and Papa Roach hit the stage shortly after 9. I'm not a big fan of Papa Roach, in fact the only song I was looking forward to hearing was Last Resort. But I will say that they brought a lot of energy to the stage and did a great job at getting the crowd warmed up. They opened with that new song thats playing on the radio now, closed with Last Resort, and played all their hits and some new stuff in between.

Papa Roach was done by 10pm and then the long wait for GN'R started. Now I saw that there was already a long ass thread in another area about the wait time being to long so I'm not gonna continue the argument, but I will say that waiting and hour and a half standing and sweating with no where to sit is not fun. Chants of what the fuck, fuck Axl, and bullshit started. Some people even said screw it and left. I will see GN'R whenever they're in the area and no matter when Axl goes on, but there is really no need for this.

At approximately 11:30 the lights went down and crowd went apeshit! They did the same intro they've been doing (I personally wish they would use that Exorcist thing they used in 2001 but oh well) The band came out followed by Axl at the center of the stage and they went right into Welcome To The Jungle, followed by Its So Easy, Mr. Brownstone and Live and Let Die. The crowd was absolutely nuts throughout these four songs. Then Axl informed everyone that he was partying into the wee hours of the morning the night before riding a mechanical bull. I am 99% sure he was referring to the Tequila Ranch and the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood. I wish I would have thought of that considering I live 5 minutes away. Robin did a solo and then Sweet Child o Mine got the crowd going again. After this it gets really cloudy so I'll just say what I remember. The new songs they did were IRS, Better, The Blues, and Chinese Democracy for the encore. Not a good crowd response but thats expected considering almost all the people have not heard those songs. You Could Be Mine was bad ass and crowd was jumping up and down in the front throughout it all. Axl introduced the band at about halfway through. Frank Ferrara was on drums and there is really no word on whats going on with Brain. I like Brain but Frank does a great job so its not really that big of a thing to me. Dizzy looked to be in great shape, I think Pittman was drunk of on drugs or something, Tommy looked really grungy, Fortus had on a bright red shirt and looked basically like he always does, Ron Thal had on a bright Hawaiian like shirt, and I think its official that Robin is now a hippie style rocker rather than the goth axeman we saw back in 02. He was even doing a psychedelic dance during the intros. Axl had about 5 or so different outfits that we've seen on the European tour. Sebastian came out for My Michelle and told Thal that he should turn his shirt down cuz it was causing interference. Funny shit! That song and Nighttrain both rocked hard and Patience- November Rain were very emotional with everyone singing along. First encore was Chinese Democracy and then Paradise City which was awesome. Crowd was going crazy with a big pit that formed which I was a part of. Fireworks and confetti ended the night!

The band was great and the crowd was hot which in my opinion is always important to making the show a success. Axl even commented at one point that "your certainly a live bunch." He also stated that he smelled an aroma and that he's just gonna assume its for medical purposes only. Good stuff! After Paradise City the whole band even came out and took a big bow at center stage which I don't remember hearing that they do a lot. I think they knew that they had just had an outstanding show to kickoff the tour. Nothing about a release date but I'm sure that will come soon. After the bow, Axl stated that they hope to be back soon. All you motherfuckers that have tickets to this show in your city, get ready because your in for a wild ride!

Gunner4Life - thanks for a great, inclusive review and especially for remembering Axl's comments to the crowd; it's the little details like this that give me a sense of what the atmosphere at the show was really like.? IMO, reviews from people who actually attended the show are the only ones worth taking notice of, so I really appreciate you taking the time to post it.

A couple of points to comment on:
1)? A wait of around an hour and a half between the last support act and GNR was commonplace during the European tour.? Not being a spring chicken anymore, the wait took a physical toll on me too when I was standing, but it's just something you have to grin and bear with Guns.? And, of course, the minute the lights dim and the intro starts playing, all the pain melts away anyway.? :D

2) The whole band onstage taking a bow at the end of show is another regular item.? I like it because it's our final chance of the evening to go wild and say thank to you an amazing group of musicians who've just given us two and a half hours of magical entertainment.

Finally, about Axl's comment about his previous night's activities...

Then Axl informed everyone that he was partying into the wee hours of the morning the night before riding a mechanical bull.?

...must just add that that would explain the, ahem, colourful shirt then!? ?:hihi:? (You'd have to have read my post on the thread with the new Axl pics to get this.)

Thanks again, G4L, I'm glad you had such a wonderful time.? ?

The concert was amazing I was in the front row!!!
It started with Sebastian Bach and his band, he played some new tunes and old classics as well.
He was was screamming so loud it was great. The last song he performed well I guess we all this one right Youth Gone Wild
Then came Papa Roach I think they did a good job as a warm up for GNR.
Well, sometime after 11pm Axl Rose finally hit the stage openning the night with WTTJ. They played a few new songs as well.
He didn't say anything about the new album but he was in a good mood.
He said something about not remenbering about the prior last night and a mechanical bull.
At one point he said that he he was smelling a familiar aroma but it wasn't a that for medicinal purpose only.
Notes: Robin Fink was amazing last night his guitar solos were tight as hell.
Bumblefoot was great he plays the guitar is fastest I have seen. During Paradise City he let everyone touch his guitar.
Setlist (what I can remenber right now)
WTTJ
Its so easy
Live and Let Die
Mr. Brownstone
Knocking on heavens door
You could be mine
The Blues
Outta get me
November Rain
Better
IRS
My Michele w/ Sebastian Bach
Patience
Nightrain
Chinese Democracy
Paradise City

I will review this list later today after I get some sleep

They had a metal scanner, and I got my "throw-away digital" camera in no problem, had it in my crotch area, but they found my brother's portable and took it away. There was ALOT of digital camera, and small video camera's around me. I was in the very very first row, and the security didn't care at all. Once you get it in the arena, you're good. Atleast for this show. Will posts pics when I get home......

Guns N' Roses: Welcome to the Awesome

Before we commence to embarrasingly gushing over last night's Guns N' Roses "Chinese Democracy" tour opener at Sunrise's BankAtlantic Center, it is necessary to grant Axl Rose a strict finger-wagging. It is completely inexusable to make your fans wait more than an hour after the last opening act for you to deign to come onstage at 11:20 p.m. Especially since the bulk of your demographic is in their late 20s and early 30s, have jobs and/or families, and are going to be completely wiped out and useless at work this morning because your portion of the show didn't end until 1:30 a.m. So, shame, shame, shame.

However, the show was pretty much the most exciting, gut-pumping, lighter-flicking thing seen so far this year in South Florida. Yes, it's true - long the butt of jokes for his stage shennagins, band line-up shuffling, creative hairdo and long-delayed pet project, frontman Axl Rose and his reconstituted Guns delivered a more than two-hour set that covered most of their older hits and at least one newer number.

The relaxed, friendly and cheerfully profane Rose admitted to being a little worse for wear following some debauched evenings in Miami ("I'd like to know where I was in the wee hours of this morning"), which may have explained his many departures from the stage to allow various bandmembers solos that occassionally slowed the evening down.

But those solos, including a strong guitar jam by former Nine Inch Nails guitarist Robin Finck and an almost Jim Brickman-esque piano piece by longtime keyboardist Dizzy Reed, were mostly started, and they couldn't zap the energy of Capt. Axl and his still-seductive stage snakiness.

The story started strong and mostly stayed that way. After the hideous wait (and there's still no excuse for that) the lights went down on a stage flanked by the letters G N'R in Chinese-like characters. Ominous storm trooper-type music began to play as the restless fans began yelling things like "Come on!" And BOOM!, just like that, the staccato strains of "Welcome To The Jungle" greeted geysers of pyrotechnic flare-ups and the appearance of the strutting Rose, his multi-colored braids tied back behind his head.

"You know where you are?" Rose screamed along with the crowd. "You're in the junnn-gal, bay-BAYY!"

Why, yes we are. Grab that pith helmet and a stun gun and elaborate, my friend.

Rose's voice has always been something of a contridiction - completely comfortable with twisting his pleasant raspiness into a seducticely dangerous shriek. It was in evidence during "Jungle," as well as the intense "You Could Be Mine," "Mr. Brownstone" and "It's So Easy." By the end of the show, he sounded like he'd over-extended himself, but he stopped throwing himself into it, even with the probable hangover pounding on his cornrows.

The band did pretty much everything you'd think they would - the strongest bits included the expert bombast of Wings' "Live And Let Die" (and did you remember how good that thing was?), the welcome whistle of "Patience" and a gleeful "Sweet Child O' Mine."

Oddly, for a tour named "Chinese Democracy," there was very little evidence of the still-unreleased album that lends it its name. Toward the end, before the stomping encore of "Paradise City," Axl and company did the title song, a loud and solid number that invokes the importance of thinking for yourself and not letting them fool ya and what-not. It's OK, although it's no "November Rain." However, it blended seamlessly into the rest of the Guns N' Roses canon, and the modern Guns N'Roses blends seamlessly into the band's legend.

one new "number" as in song, not one new member,

maybe they're mixing some of the new stuff up with old stuff.

Good to see that some journalists still have the abillity to be a bit objective. Saw them on Roskilde Festival this summer, great fucking show. Axl was dead on with the vocals and the band were kicking serious ass. The next day the Festival Paper gave them 3 out of 6. Bitched about Axl being 45 minutes late (big surprise there.....).

I completely agree with pollux and easy e here. ?First it's a concert to see Guns N roses not Yanni - it's going to go late - hell, I wished they would play for 3 or 4 hours, work be damned. ?And, like pollux said, it's not a big surprise. ?This happened all throughout the Illusion tours (maybe Appetite too), not to mention every single night (I was at all 4) of the Hammerstein shows. ?For everyone who has never been but is going to one of the upcoming shows all I can say is this - Always late but worth the wait.

Suprised teh Post gave such a good review, considering the day before they had a photo of a GNR tribute band on their concert calendar.  I actually saw the chick who wrote the review at the show.

I was reading all the responses  to the article  on the  Blog page  and there are some people that hated the concert  and are saying that Axl was using backing vocals.    They say he could hardly be heard  and that people started leaving.     I have also read some positive reviews   .  Were there more satisfied  people than disappointed ones??

I was in the very very first row, and the security didn't care at all.

The dudes in the yellow didn't care but the bald dude in the light blue shirt cared. They made a mention of that before hand. I was right in front of the Screech look-a-like security guard.

Sorry, this is late but this is the first time I have been home since the show.

This being the first time I saw the band since Hammerstein in NY, the first thing that stood out was how much more Ron fits in to the group. In NY he seemed tentative to take a lead or to outshine anyone else. This night in Sunrise, Ron made me not miss the Bucket anymore.

The sound was fantastic. You could easily pick out who was playing what parts. Looks like they finally got someone who knows how to operate the soundboard. The only mass exodus of people that I noticed was after Nightrain. It appears some people werent aware that bands play encores. New songs were noticeably met with luke warm reception at the start but all received good responses by the end.

If I was home reaing updates on the web, I might have been upset about the set list but being in the venue and experiencing the energy of the band and the audience might change your perspective. The opening night of the tour was quite the success but just scratched the surface of what would come in Tampa.

glad you had a good time.  which hammerstein show were you at?  I was at the last one.

you know what you said about the set list is so true.  once they are on stage playing, it really doesn't matter what songs they play.  it's just a true rock and roll experience, the only thing that matters is that the songs rock, no matter if they are new, or are ones we've heard a million times over.

I went to all 4 hammerstein shows.

The band feeds off the crowd and the crowd was excellent both nights so far. Even if the "new" songs didnt get an overwhelming reaction at the start, by the time they were over, they got a good response. In Tampa last night, after Better was done, you would have thought they just finished Sweet Child by the crowd reaction.

They had a metal scanner, and I got my "throw-away digital" camera in no problem, had it in my crotch area, but they found my brother's portable and took it away.

How did they find your brothers camera? With the metal scanner? Did he croth it or had it in a napsack.
 :peace:
