I'm bored and was just thinking about what tattoos you all have (if you are tattooed)? I for my part have four (got the fourth just two days ago - that's why I can only sleep on one side which is a bitch). I have the two that Axl has (his blue rose with his name and the Appetite cross), the Guns logo with the two colts/the roses/the Gn'R banner and a big smoking skull with a top hat. So what about you? [smoking]

It's not exactly the GN'R skull that is in the logo - he's smokin' and he has one eye, but of course a top hat. It's the biggest so far, I've done it on the rips downwards - it hurt like hell (more than all three I've done before together), but it looks  really cool! [smoking]

I bet it looks cool.  8) Yeah thats one of the things that suck about tattoos is they hurt like hell. Are you going to get anymore?

Well, it depends on where you do it. The three I got on my arms didn't hurt too much, I mean I did feel it but it wasn't like I went through hell, but his last one on the rips - dude, it really fuckin' hurt badly, they warned me before anyway... But they were really cool coz they played my GN'R Cd so I could at least listen to Guns while I was suffering... ;D I will probably get some more, but not right now.

Just out of interest, how much did the half sleeve cost, Mich-Ellie?

I have been thinking about getting a tattoo, but I'm not sure what I should get. It seems like the ones I want are too "guyish" and I don't want anyone to be put off on them. So what do you guys think of girls with tattoos?

Right now all I am certain about is that I want a tattoo on a place that is not always in plain sight. Like on my lower back (above my ass) or the back of my shoulder.

I'm a huge fan of Undertaker (from WWE) so I've always wanted a tat of his symbol, but now I am afraid it won't look right. What do you think? I'll try to upload a pic of it for those who aren't familiar with it.

I've also been thinking about getting the Godsmack sun logo but I'm not sure which to go with. The plain sun logo or the newest one but change their name to something else like my own name.

I've also been interested in a GnR tat but they all seem too "guyish" for my taste. Does anyone have any ideas on GnR tats that would look ok on a girl?

Any other ideas are welcome too!

Both of those designs are nice. I can't give you any advice because I don't have a tattoo yet, although maybe someday I'll get one.

I've got six tattoos, and most of the guys around me find them sexy.

Never think tattoo designs are too "guyish". I have a large skull on my back, with a chain travelling down my back to a small star. The star is on my lower back and is usually covered up by my pants so it usually look like the chain travels down my ass. It's very masculine and I feel comfortable with it because I like it.

I have a tattoo of a small bird (a raven, because I had an obsession with WWE wrestler Raven), on my hip. I've also got Motley Crue's New Tattoo album picture on my leg, and on the other leg I have GN'R's USI's picture. I've also got 'Dollface' across my fingers. My second tattoo ever was NWO 4 Lyfe on my foot because I'm obsessed with Scott Hall.

I know of some guys who don't like girls majorly tattooed, but what you want to get is fine. If your obsessing over the "guyish"ness of the design, put it in a more "feminine" place.

i'm in this martial arts academy at the moment and i've decided that if i reach my black belt, and get pretty damn good i'm getting a tattoo of the academy logo. which is this really cool gold and red dragon, on my left shoulder.

I have a long-stemmed yellow rose with green leaves thru a red heart (very feminine).  The flower and two leaves are above the heart and a single leaf and the rest of the stem curls out of the bottom left of the heart.  I had it placed on the curve of my left tit over my heart which is low enough where it can't be seen wearing a "normal v-cut" top - in other words, it can't be seen unless I want it to be seen.

I'm a big "Undertaker" fan, too!  I'm old enough to remember him as "Mean Mark".  His symbol would look great if you place it in the same spot like where I have my rose&heart.  And the Godsmack's logo would look great if you place it on your lower back.

Just my own personal way of thinking but I wouldn't put it on my upper arm because know matter how pretty the tat is whenever I see a girl with a tat there it always seems to give it a "butch" look.  On a girl's shoulder, tit, hip or ankle, IMO would be better.

No offense to your sister but I think three or four is more than enough.  I wouldn't think that those 17 or 19 tats are gonna look to appealing when she's 50.

I wasn't around for the old Taker, but from what I seen he was pretty amazing. I still love him now but I was kinda hoping he'd go back to the dark side. I was pissed when WWE got everyone's hopes up earlier in the year. It would be awesome if ya can get me that info!  

I want the Robert Williams "Demon" tattoo from AFD. I really dont want the entire piece, just the "Demon" jumping over the fence. I brought the picture to my tattoo artist, and he wants an arm and a leg to draw it, then tattoo it on me. He told me to have someone just draw the demon by itself, and that would be much easier to get it tattooed. So can anyone trace, or draw the exact demon image for me? I am a  horrible artist and have no patience to trace it out, and make it look good. PLEASE!!! Help a fellow GnR fan out!!

When I got my tattoo, all the guy did was take the picture I wanted and outlined it with ink to make a stencil that he applied to my skin and then filled the stencil in with the tattoo ink.

So maybe if you just Xerox the part with the demon that you want and then reduce it down to the size that you want on your body, the tattoo guy could use that as his "stencil".

Go to another shop.

Any good artist would prefer to re-draw it for themselves and familiarize themselves with what they are working with.
Most artists understand people don't have a ton of cash, so they try to be understanding. Shop around, but never substitute quality and cleanliness for a cheaper price.  It's there for life, so you want it to look good, and you don't want an hiv infection from a dirty needle.

I have a ton of ink myself, and getting tattoos is a really good thing, just be CAREFUL. If you need any advice, feel free to msg me.

any tattoo artist worth a shit should be able to look at the cover and draw it free hand without the skulls on it then put it on your back, im gonna get something similiar to axls on my forearm one of these days. just take the pic as is to the tattoo shop and they should be able to do it dead on without the skulls

Any tattoo artist could do it, except that they do not know what the deisgn underneath those skulls looks like. Take a good look at it, there's no way to know exactly how it goes.

Luckly for you lauren I have that exact tattoo on my right arm. I want something GnR related, but i don't ever want to get a tattoo with words, and I since it was my first tattoo, I didn't want to get anything that i may ever regret. Since I'm pretty religious, and I love GnR the cross without the skulls was the perfect alternative. So i spent a bunch of time drawing the cross out on my computer, and making a design for underneath the skulls that i thought was cool. So I still have it saved on my computer. If you want it just PM me your e-mail addy and I'll send it to you.

Well, it depends on where you get the tattoo, how big it is, and how much of a wuss you are.   ;D

My tats are dainty little feminine things- rose on my shoulder and a sun around my navel.  So, the pain wasn't bad at all.  

i have 4 tattoos and during 3 of em each on my arms i sit there and talked to the guy like we were just chillin drivin downt he highway didnt feel anything

the one on my back when it gets close to the center hurts somewhat, nothing uc ant really stand

I remember when I got mine thinking that it really doesn't hurt that bad - more like a burning sensation.  Nothing you couldn't easily tolerate.  But I also remember wishing the guy would hurry up and finish because it seemed to take forever.

Mine is a yellow rose with green leaves and the stem goes through a red heart and curls at the bottom.  The whole thing is outlined in black.  I don't remember the outline - which they do first - hurting at all.  It wasn't until the coloring-in part that I felt that slight burning sensation.

Just be careful what design you pick ... because they say it's EXTREMELY painful to have it removed.

Anyone who says it doesn't hurt is a liar, straight up. Set your macho pride aside, it's a needle going into your skin two thousand times a minute, of course it hurts.

Some of it is barable, ie. the coulouring in. The outline is the worst, the colouring in is annoying because of the time it takes.

I guess it also depends how much fat/muscle you have on your body, the closer your skin is to the bone, the more it's gonna hurt. My first one killed, but I was a wretch back then (6 years ago).

If you're going for your first one, get a small one. Easy to get rid of and easy to cover up, if you decide against it afterwards.

I'm hoping to start a full sleeve soon, within the next year, to do it I will need two tattoos covered.

I have been wanting to get one for a while on my upper arm. Still haven't gotten around to it yet. Can't imagine it being THAT painful. I'm sure there will be some pain though...

i mean u feel it but its not like pain that makes u wanna scream, i mean it causes some discomfort but nothing outrageous

no macho pride here, the ones on my arms really didnt hurt at all, i mean yeah i can feel the poke but like i said i just talked to the guy, no ouches, tensing up or nothing like that but i have an enormous amount of muscle so i think that is why i didnt feel it as much, however when it gets close to your bicep it does get more sharp

the back ok i was being a little macho there, the back is pretty painful in my opinion of course i got a very detailed very colorful tattoo, it has two suns with a sword going down the middle of a ying yang sign with snakes around the sword it took like 5 hours and the outline hurt, it felt like someone stickin a hot poker to your back when it got close to the spine

once again u tolerate it cause u cant stop once it has started, the pain was worth it though for that one

but seriously tattoos on your upper shoulder *right above bicep or in the middle of your bicep/tricep arent that painful at least not in myopinion

im bout to get a nipple ring i heard they hurt but once again it is something that will be worth the pain

well i have one tattoo that i got in july (2003) it is right in the middle of my back smack on the spine. Its a blue rose with my moms initials in a leaf falling off the stem... the lining hurt... i remember bitin my thumb for that... maybe im just a wuss... but id have to say it feels like gettin a billion paper cuts! but its not so bad and when its all over it was so worth it!

I read the GNR - Tattoo topic and wondered if any of the boardmembers have any ink done.

I have an angel on the left shoulder, done in black and red, kind of tribal style. I got the idea to it after surviving a car crash unharmed.

And a nipple piercing.

Last august while I was in philly visiting my cousin I took a tattoo on my right shoulder with two guns crossed and a rose coming up in the middle.

Then couple of months later after watching Welcome to the videos I noticed that Duff has the same kind of a tattoo in his left shoulder.

I used to have a t-shirt with that on. I would have gone for G N' R at the bottom but thats just me. Cool tat though!! There should be a permanent section where people can post pictures of there gnr tatoos.

i want the cross on my arm, I have arms the same size as Axl's so I don't really worry about how it would look, but what makes me hesitant is this:

Do people really give a crap when you go out and look for jobs and so on? IS it that much of a turn off. Usually I don't give a flying F, but it is a really wild (in the best of ways) tattoo, and I love the thign to death.

i know a lot of people care about those things, but if it really means that much to you, get it... i mean, if they don't want to hire you because of the tat, would you want to work for them?

i recently got the cross on my right calf. if i can i will post it on here. The job the tattooist did is amazing. it took about 5hrs over 2 sittings and cost $500 oz.The skulls look exactly like the picture, where as i think axls skulls are pretty shit.

YA! I can't post the pic. But I have a gnr tattoo. I have had it sense 92. It's a rose similar to Axl's and it has a pair of guns crossed below it. It is on my Left shoulder. I have several tats and it is still my favorite.

I took my first tattoo last friday.
Me and my friend went to a tattoo & piercing shop, because my friend wanted to take a piercing. While she took her piercing, i talked with the man who makes tattoos. If you're a male - get an eagle above one of your breasts, between that and the shoulder,
or something like a dragon on your lower tummy to the left or right, above your groin area.

If you're female get a mythical creature above your private area, lower tummy. It'll look good provided you're not fat.

It all depends on your own interests and style, you should talk about it with a tatoo artist! You could even look at the tatoos the members of gnr have and "borrow" one of thier designs!  :beer:

I wanted the skull because I thought it looked good and at the same time I wanted somethign reminiscent of GN'R (imagine two crossed pistols underneath).  I'm debating whether to have Semper Liber (Latin for "Always Free") or RN'FN'R! inked underneath the pistols when they're done.

Interesting story behind it was the picture I brought in from this board, the German tattoo guy said was to distorted, so that night he went home and dug through some really old and rare music magazines and ripped out a whack of Axl pictures and then left them adressed to me at the parlour as "the lil' Axl Fan" ;D

Back when Civil War was still new, before UYI's i had designed a gnr tat, but never got it inked (I was in, like, grade 9 or 10, yikes... I'm old  :hihi:)  I'll see if i can dig the sketch out and i'll scan and post it for you guys so you can let me know what you think of the design.

It's kinda like a modified version of the one doubletalking has.

Right on, mikegiuliana, I agree totally, and another thing, if you do decide to get a tat, make sure the artist you pick is really fucking good. Mine was shit when i got it done, I've had to get it touched up 3 times now (in 10 years) and, now there is so much scar tissue there I cant do any more to it. even adding to it is questionable because it hurts just to get near it with the gun.

The lost rose was a cool site. There is a member here named lost rose is that the old owner of that site? That was a cool logo he had, I actually used to go there all the time and when he shut down i transferred to HTGTH  :nervous: but i would never leave this site now. it kicks too much ass : ok:

the color in all of mine has lasted amazingly.. Back in the day all the people I use to stay with had ink fever and there was a damn good tattoo artist in the area.. I had gottemn some chinese writing back then on my forearm and to this day I get asked all the time what does it mean.. I really wish I never got that one.. yes, I have Axl's skull from AFD on my lower back. I'm not sure if I'll be making any additions to it, though, because I can't think of anything that would go with it... at the moment, anyway. It's too much of a cartoon for something like a vine with roses or some shit. In time, I'll think of something... if not, I'm cool with my baby tat.

I have 5 tattoos nothing GnR related. I have 3 dragons, a scorpion, and my initials in tribal. I have thought about getting something Guns related. I have thought about 2 red Chinese Democracy stars on my upper chest, the Illusions guy on the ankle, GNR Cross on my arm, Axls Broken Heart tattoo on my arm. I have always believed that you need a tattoo that represents a moment in your life and many of us Guns have been a very big part of our lives.

It was my 7th tattoo at the time, first one I got on my arm. I now have 26 tattoos. I want another GNR related tattoo at some point. I was thinking of getting the dragons from the tour t-shirt in 2002 on either side of my hips. So far it hasn't happened yet.

As for the time it takes, It all depends on the size, detail, artist, # of colours, etc, etc

about if it hurts? depends on your threshold of pain, mine wasn't too bad when i first got it (outside of bicep), but touching up sucked. also location, pinch where you want it (with your finger nails) the more it hurts then the more the tat will hurt. for instance pinch your shoulder, then pinch under your arms (inside of biceps) see that smarts huh? :) forearm isn't as bad as shoulder, under arm hurts, calf doesn't hurt as much as thigh. again it all depends on the individual. Just remeber tatoos are done with needles jabbing your skin repeatedly so it stings at first, but you get numbed to the pain rather quickly, the filling in isn't nearly as bad as the outline

Thats one of my favorite lines from any GNR song.  To this day I still listen to Locomotive and say, "Jesus Christ.   Amazing." So to me, that would be the perfect line, of any GNR song to get tattooed.   The revolver and rose thing probably wouldn't be too bad either.  Just do what you want.  It will probably be with you for a pretty long while.

39 when I got my first tat. Got it in Vegas in 05 a collage of red roses and pink hearts on vines with thorns.  It's beautiful.  Went back 4 month later and created my own gnr tat, didn't want to copy any of theirs, but it is two short stub pistols with red roses on my upper left shoulder.  Went again just last month and had another rose and somemore vines added to my existing tat on my lower back to center it a little bit more.  Thinking about adding some tiny pistols to vines instead of leaves or thorns.  The lower back is pretty painful.  Upper shoulder didn't hurt at all.  I will always return to Vegas for future tats, as my husband and I have found a great artist.  The place is called Diversity or (Tattoo Heaven), located on the strip down by the Stratosphere.

I think it's pretty average price, off course I'f like to see how complex it is.

I got my first tatoo 5 years ago. It's a tribal on my upper shoulder. It took only 50 minutes and didn't hurt at all. Actually I felt asleep on the chair and woke up 30 minutes later when some guy started screaming like a maniac next to me. He just had his penis pierced :o
When I woke up my tatoo was almost done.
Next month I plan to get a new one. This time I want to have it done on my foot or around my ankle. Somebody told me this area hurts a lot  :nervous:

Don't get inked cause you think it's "cool." ?A tattoo is going to be with you the rest of your life, so make sure it's something you'll appreicate when you're 60. ?I have two tattoos, but they're both on my upper arms and aren't visible unless I want you to see em. ?Nothing worse than trying to be taken serious as a professional and having a skull or something else visible; it's frowned upon. ?If I ever did get a tattoo GN'R related (which I doubt) it'd be something that meant more than just GN'R. ?Just my opinion, but don't rush out and get inked only to regret it a few days, week, months or even years later.

do your research and take it seriously. Dont just walk into any old shop.? I would opt for a more photo-realistic flower, if thats the route you want to take.? It doesnt look so much like off the wall flash.? You'd be amazed at what can be accomlpished nowadays. Dont go off of what you see on Inked.

not got any tattoos yet , but the wife and I are booked in for our first on Monday, she is having a vine with flowers on her foot and I am having a wolf on the back of my shoulder.

All tattoos hurt, but its different for everyone.  It isnt excruciating, otherwise nobody would get them.  I can say that the worst spot for me was my knee.  The chest wasnt too fun either.  It also depends on what kind of needle is being used.  A liner hurts worse than a shader. The back of your shoulder shouldnt be too bad. 

Just got back from tattoo parlour and all is well. My wife has a nice floral design on her foot and I have a nice wolf design on the back of my shoulder. Will try and post a pic if I can work out how to???
Fortunatly our local tattoo parlour do a numbing cream which works a treat (wimps, we know), not too much pain and all is well.

numbing cream?   Pretty much goes against the whole point of a tat, but..Does it go on before you start, or after you are done?  I do know of something called "Sestain" which you can apply during a tattoo, but it only numbs what has already been worked on, it wont numb fresh skin. Its not really a cream, its more of a liquid, and its only really used on tattoos that take a long time, and really makes it difficult to heal.  How long did you sit for?

It took pretty long time to ink it, because of the details. I think it took around four to five hours.

It should be pretty orginal since it was drawn for me.

The story behind it that I was in a car with my gf (back then) and her brother, suddenly on a motorway front tire went loose from the drivers side and we drove off the road doing 100-120 km/h, when I got out of the car I saw that we had narrowly missed a streetlight and I was thinking we got damn lucky.

Right across the road there was a white cross since someone hadn't been that lucky.

I found the idea of my own guardian angel-tattoo appealing and I searched the net for a good pic to give the tattooer an idea what I was looking, then after six months I went to a local tattoo shop and her draw me a couple of "ideas" where we improved one of them a few times and now it's on my shoulder.

I''ve been searching for an idea for an idea to a new tat, after I took the first three years ago, but I still haven't found one.

The cream goes on about 1 hour before and it only takes the edge away, you can still feel some pain but its bearable. My wife sat for about 45 mins and mine was about 1 hour 30mins ish.
The tattoos were got for personel reasons and took a great deal of thought (about 2 years on and off) but we decided to bite the bullet and go.
I am definitly up for some more now though.

I have 4 currently, will post pics in the next day or so, had them when I was 17/18/19 im 33 now and they still look pretty colourful although obviously not as vibrant as the day I was inked.

My advice upon experience would be to consider black only tats, least if they fade its alot easier to have them 'touched' up in the future. Another tip would be DONT pick the scabs when the tat is healing... You can pretty much take all the colour off.

I am currently having a new one designed, I checked my family surname history which dates back to the doomsday book of 1066. Basically my surname had a coat of arms and latin motto. I am having the latin motto on either my shoulder blades or the inside of my forearm. For anyone interested the motto reads; je te prie garde ma vie which translated means, lord i beseech thee save my life....

if you question getting it, then dont get it.  Axl said once that he thinks about his tattoos for a year.  After a year, if he still wants it, he gets it.  Think about what you want, and do your research. Find an artist you like and trust, and see what you guys come up with together.

that logo is pretty common. So is the cross logo. If you dont mind having the same tattoo as a lot of other people, then go for it. But, if you are so unsure about what you want, that you are asking a message board about it, then I would say dont get it.  Wait until you are 100 % sure what you want.  Its a good feeling to be sitting in the chair without any feeling of being unsure. Also, you'd be amazed at what can be done nowadays tattoo-wise. Dont just walk into a shop with a logo. Find a good artist that can come up with a truley unique piece that still represents GnR.

Just started my second arm sleeve i have my daughters initals (the letters look like stone) going down my for arm and have vines wrapping around them with her birthh flowers coming off the vines.
On my other arm i have flames wrapping around my fore arm and I have a dragon that looks like it is coming out of the fire. I have a wols head on my shoulder that looks out of place now. Got to love tattoo's.

Have your tattoo artist do the drawing for you.  Not someone here on the boards.  Do your homework, find an ARTIST that you like. Take him/her your ideas, and have 'em draw it up for you.  Cool drawings dont always make the best tattoos, no matter how good the drawing is.  A tattoo artist knows how to make something flow with your arm.  Im not a big fan of getting "logo" tattoos, but if you find a talented artist, a logo can be worked into a really cool tattoo.

I've been working with an idea with artist called Antti Vaaramaa for a year, mostly since he's been laz... buzy, the same on who did DarkFairys GNR-tattoo. Actually the guy was talking about a ritual suicide only half-jokingly when we talked.

Anyway the guy had to blow of four guys and two girls he wouldn't tattoo anyhow because his buzy schedule so I was surprised that I finally got my time booked at date 22nd may.

I had printed off a picture of the tattoo from Google, but the lady who did my tattoo said the picture wasn't clear enough, and she'd need a higher quality picture of the tattoo.

One of the guys who worked there ended up being a huge Gn'R fan who had several magazine covers and fold-out posters of Axl and the tattoo, so I ended up being able to get the ink done!

I asked my tattoo dude this yesterday. He said that one day he was at home, watching MTV. Crazytown came on with "Butterfly", and the song was already quite popular by that time. The singer had two stars, one on each shoulder. He said to himself, "I bet you I get people coming in the studio now wanting stars". He told me that it took about a week before the first person came in, and since then, it's been near constant. He was amazed that the trend has held, but added that he thinks that people think that stars are so rock n roll.

So, going by what he said, I think he means that they are popular because they are popular, but that it all started because of that guy in Crazytown.

I would be gettting the GNR 2006 tour logo done tonight...but the one i want was from the video that was on youtube for the Shaklers video. It was titled "For the Real Fans" had tour pics and this cool logo near the end of the song.

Logo was a big star with red rays comming off it.  If someone could help me out, would be much appreciated. I've looked all over the net tonight but can't find a pic of it anywhere.  of coures its taken off youtube the wk before i most needed to see it!

it'd be cool to get a tattoo like the afd cross, but with all real members of the band.  i hope that there's a design like that in the new album somewhere.

Thanks, but thats not quit the same logo as i'm looking for.   similar, but the rays are fewer and thicker and just at the top on the one i can't find.  The design with chineese writing (below  "GNR"on logo above)  is whats below the star on the one i'm looking for...but instead of the chineese writing it said 2006. apreciate you trying though Chief.

I'm sure I'm gonna get me a "gnr" tattoo in the future. But I would go for something subtle, a reference in some way, but no logo's or something. Perhaps a lyric.....but that ain't too subtle....dunno. Tattoo's rock and are very addictive, my arms are already filled with maori

It was alot alike the 2006 tour posters, but modified abit, same star with GNR in the middle, but this one had thick red rays at top and that design at bottom.  Maybe this logo is customized by the maker of the vid?

Appetite and CD represent different levels of the band over time, merging those two together, would clearly be a conflict of interest so to speak, is that what you want to represent? ???

That would be utterly disrespectful to the original GNR !!...and embarissing for the new GNR, i would think they would want to create they OWN logo and identity! not alter a well known symbol that represents GNR from almost 20 years ago!!

i didn't literally mean they should redo the afd cross. but something like it that could be iconic and show you who's in the band.  people are going to want to get new gnr tattos when new gnr albums come out.  just a fact.  i'd be cool if they had an option that included the new members of the band too.

I have had a long, difficult year that has resulted in a huge transition in my life.  I am thinking about getting my first tattoo.  I was wondering if people can give me tips based on their experiences.  Regrets?  Lessons learned?  Suggestions?  What to expect? 

I am thinking about getting something on my left arm/shoulder.  Probably something on the bigger side that can at least partly go around my arm as well.  Also, if anyone has any recommendations in LA, please let me know.

I took my first after being close to a bad accident five or six years ago. Luckily no one was hurt but after looking the scene the next morning I realized it was really close.

I've had the idea for my first tattoo a while before that, but that kind of made my mind, and having a reason behind it tattoo, a story, makes it more than just a pretty picture.

And after five years I've had no regrets for taking it.

Here's what I did; I took a scetch of the tattoo to a place called Needlepoint, where a guy called Antti drew his version based on the pic and ideas I gave to him. Then we modified it a few times until I was happy with it and did the ink on my shoulder.

I took a new one in my chest last summer/fall and I must say,  the shoulder/arm is relatively painless place to take the ink.

Keep in mind that having a fresh tattoo is like having a third degree burn.

I'm seconding this - if you can't find the EXACT picture you want or need, it's best if you take it into the shop and get your lad (or lass) to tweak it/redesign it/whatever. Custom work is ALWAYS cooler than a copy of someone else's. (remember the craze for kanji tattoos? tribals? old-school? don't jump on the bandwagon!!)  I took a design that my gf drew into the studio and then basically ended up throwing it out the window in favour of something bigger, badder and designed for me personally. :3  the second one was a walk-in of a septagram that I wanted for a while. bored and have money - buy yourself some pain. go figure.

and yeah, a fresh tattoo is like a 3rd degree burn on the surface and a big fat bruise underneath.  mm....my favourite kinda pain...

oh tips...if you're getting a big piece done, bring a pack of super extremely minty take-the-top-of-your-head-off gum.  it's a great distraction. :p

Thanks for the advice.  I'm a professional in an industry that probably doesn't look to fondly on them.  However, my general feeling is f#%k it.  It shouldn't be a problem most of the time as I have to wear business casual, but I want it high enough on my arm so that if I wear a short sleeve shirt it doesn't really show.

I think I have a pretty good idea of what I want, but I am hoping to find someone that can work with my idea and put their own artistic touch to it.

any tattoo artist should be only too happy to work with you.  if the sucker ain't, he's not worthy to mark ya!  best of luck mate.

I am getting my second tattoo soon and I want to do a black and white portrait of Axl.  I am having a very hard time finding the perfect picture, and was wondering if anyone had any pictures that meet my requirements.

Essentially I am looking for a complete head shot, with no bandana, hat or glasses.  His hair nice and neat and no microphones blocking anything.  I have gone through a few hundred different pix of Axl and found a couple potentials, but nothing that really hits me as perfect.

My first tattoo i designed myself, but for a portrait that is rather difficult.

Sweet!!!  I love it :yes:.  My next will be a portrait as well, but still undecided exactly, probably a more current Axl, but who knows, ultimately I would love to have it done before Montreal, but just not sure if I am ready to endure more tat pain, they hurt me :o.

7 hours? How many smoke breaks?  Good to see another Axl portrait tho. Mine took about 3 and a half hours.

The face, sunglasses, and hand are all messed up.

Axl is wearing a glove, its obviously in honor of the late michael jackson.  Pretty cool tat.... 

I think it looks cool, nice and big and the shading is a good job.  Just had a new one myself, its not GnR, but got some smoke and roses around an existing tatt on my arm, so my top right arm is looking a lot more inky! My first colour tattoo as well.  I love the pain of a new tattoo! although when the shading was touched up a few weeks later, that fkn hurt..!

planning on a GnR related tatt next year when on holiday in LA which hopefully will be feb/march.  :beer:

I'd say that to anyone.  I feel bad that the guy paid good money for a very important tattoo for himself, and the artist didn't do a sufficient job.  I understand that it can't be exactly photographic quality, but there are quite a few things wrong with the portrait.  Look at Axl's teeth for instance, on top of what I already listed.

And this thing is close to done, it's not like a wash or anything.

1.  The tattoo is NOT done.
2.  The picture was taken just after that session was finished...my arm was still swollen and the many shades of grey all look black until the skin peels and heals.
3.  There has been one peel so far, and the black is now all shades of grey, and looks more like a greyscale portrait that it should do.  It will look even better when the skin is healed.

dont get me wrong, that's awsome that you did a axl tat. & yes, it will lighten up alot when healed.  i do hope it comes out the way you wanted it to. as long as your happy with it, thats the end result right?  i do say the motto is true. good tattoos arent cheap, & cheap tattoos arent good. but they are really in the eye of the beholder!!!!

Tattoos generally look better fresh, before they are healed.  Thats why the artist takes a pic rights after.  Healing isnt going to improve the quaility. Its not a terrible tattoo, tho.  But after 7 hours, it should be done, or at least... better.

i agree, it's not terrible. i've seen way worse. but 7 hours is a long time to not finish it. btw crow, i believe the guy that did your batman tats did my friends insane clown posse tats also. great, great work!!!!

Just got my first new tattoo in almost 18 years.  I've been through some tough times over the past 2 years and what with that and reaching a milestone birthday at the beginning of the year, I decided that the time was right to add to my tattoo collection and mark both my survival this far and my determination to live fully in the moment.  It was done by Mie Satou at The Family Business Tattoo in London; first session a week ago (hence the dryness on the cherry blossom) and finished at another session earlier today.

Never one to do things by halves, I've got a full day session with Hannah Aitchison coming up on Saturday.  The tattoo will have a GN'R connection and I'll post pics when I can.

I want the 2 Las Vegas dates I attended in 2006 on my upper arm, with a GN'R logo and maybe a pair of dices. I'm going to look back at the Vegas designs, GN'R did for the 01 shows, and I'm going to try to incorporate my dates into those.

I'm choosing these dates out of the 23 I've seen purely because, they were the 2 best shows I have seen ever. And also Las Vegas is the furthest place I have travelled to see GN'R ahead of Toronto. (I'm from England)

I don't mind if a girl has a lot of tattoos as long as she hasn't have any work done on her face and got style on them. I mean these dolphins, roses, haywires and or these tribal thingie with some flowers or stars or buterflies on her lower back, real orginal sis.

I don't particularly care what they represent. I was just giving an example. It could be anything as long as it's small.

For some reason this comment made me think of some cute small kanji-letter-tattoo with a meaning "whore".

Once again, hardly a problem if the tattoo isn't visible normally. I don't think you should be getting too bothered about the 'inner meaning' of a tattoo on someone else's body.

Well, if you're going to have some ink on your body for a lifetime, it's propaby wise to do some research of the orginal meaning and history of the symbol and not just taking something because it's pretty or cool.

Then again, I don't take a tattoo from a list, beacause for me the tattoo should be something orginal and new and not something you see on everystreet corner.

If we take your point of view a bit further; it would be ok to have a japan 16-ray kamikaze flag tattoeed on you? What about swastika? Or maybe take something that you actually don't necessarily link to nazis, a runic symol The Wolfsangel (German for "wolf's hook"). I mean it probably would've been a good idea to do some reasearch now, wouldn't it? (unless the tat is hidden, right?).

Or have a watch with no hands done "because you're in no hurry" or somesuch and never did it occur that it's origins is among inmates serving a life-sentence.

And for me people who have some kanji-lettering meaning noodle soup just strike to me as idiots.

When I saw GN'R in Lisbon (Rock In Rio) in 2006, as I was waiting in the airport. A girl came up to me and said something in Portuguese, and then she showed me her arm. She had a tattoo of Axl in black and white, and she was very proud of it.

I was wearing GN'R clothes, so that's why she approached me. I remember being so happy at seeing that, it was my first ever time seeing GN'R and that sort of kicked the adventure off.  :)

I remember that GN'R tattoo from when you first posted that pic of it still sealed and then clearly visible. Really nice tattoo, and that dragon is a nice touch too.  ;)

I've always loved that version of the GN'R logo, it was used on the stage banners during live shows in 2006.

I'm definitely going to get one of many GN'R tattoos this year, I'm 22 and feel it's the perfect time. But I might go to London to get it done, seen a good few tattoo shops down there.
