Title: Favourite Ex-gunners album
Post by: alejoyp on January 24, 2007, 02:30:38 PM
Well, since so many musicians had already play with GN'R in the last decade, I will consider as "Ex-gunners" (at least for this topic) the musicians that had recorded with GN'R (appeared in official albums) : Slash, Izzy, Duff, Matt, Steven n' Gilby

Well, I think VR "Contraband" is an excellent album, also loves It's 5 O'clock anywhere form Snakepit n' most of Izzy material (my fav is 117?) but as an album with so many hits n' high points I will pick "Pawnshop Guitars" from Gilby...
Also though that "Cure or Kill Me" may be the best song recorded/composed by any of ex-gunners... also "Black", "Tijuana Jail" are classic at now... the cover of "Dead Flowers" is awesome, no words for it (it's Axl singing there for god'ssake!!)
Wich is your opinion?

tough choice between contraband and 5 o'clock

Am going for 5 o'clock somewhere - some absolutely killer slash on that, and i liked Eric's voice a lot too.

It's Five O'clock Somewhere - Slash's Snake pit.

The lead Eric Dover singer reminds me of Axl, and in some ways I think he is better. I donot know how successful his band (Jelly fish) were. but he should have stuck with Slash. Further on down line Duff, Gilby Clarke and Matt Sorum could have joined Slash's Snake Pit in what could have been one of the best bands on earth.

Slash's Snake Pit

The cover art is great:

some info:
It's Five O'Clock Somewhere is the debut album by the rock group Slash's Snakepit, released on February 14, 1995 (see 1995 in music). The album went platinum worldwide. The album title came from when Slash wanted a drink in an airport, but bars don't open before 5 PM. A bartender said "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere" and the rest is history. Slash originally wrote some of these songs for his old band Guns N' Roses to use for the album which was intended to follow The Spaghetti Incident, but Axl Rose disliked them. Slash then used the songs he had written for the Slash's Snakepit album. The artwork for the album is infact a photograph of a spray-painted wall in a flat which was created by Slash's brother. If you look very closely towards the bottom right of the picture underneath the cigarette, a plug socket can be seen.

Jellyfish had a small, loyal following, but Dover wasn't big in that band. He was only the lead singer in Imperial Drag and he had a solo effort, Sextus.
You can check their stuff out on some myspace pages:
