SCOTT WEILAND: More Solo Album Details Revealed; Tour Dates Announced - Sep. 5, 2008

Following the success of his red-hot reunion tour with STONE TEMPLE PILOTS, Scott Weiland has announced the release of his highly-anticipated sophomore album, "Happy In Galoshes", out November 18, 2008 via the artist's label Softdrive Records and distributed by New West Records/ RED/ Sony.

Rocketing to the forefront of the music world in 1992, Scott Weiland has become one of the music world's most highly-respected and prolific artists. As the front man for STONE TEMPLE PILOTS, Weiland has remained a dominant force in rock music since the group's inception. Now with his sophomore solo release Weiland proves that his music and song-writing is as potent and powerful as ever.

"Happy In Galoshes", produced by Scott Weiland and Doug Grean (VELVET REVOLVER, SHERYL CROW, CRYSTAL METHOD), with select tracks recorded by Steve Albini, features a collection of songs that bring a revitalizing sound to Weiland's highly praised and unique musical style. The album also features several guest appearances including Adrian Young, Tony Kanal and Tom Dumont of NO DOUBT, who, along with Grean and Weiland, penned "Paralysis", which features Young on drums. "She's so Cold" was co-written by Gary Beers from INXS. The album also includes other standout tracks such as the dynamic "Missing Cleveland" and the catchy hooks of "Talk About Love".

Scott Weiland plans to tour (see dates below) in support of the release in November following the release of the album, and the completion of the STP's reunion tour, which re-cemented the group's standing as one of the most successful rock groups of all time.

SCOTT WEILAND Says Upcoming Solo Record Will Be 'Double Album' - Apr. 30, 2008

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS/ex-VELVET REVOLVER singer Scott Weiland has posted the following message on his MySpace page:

"I felt the need to check in and let everyone know what the latest and greatest is...as you know, my original band, STP, have reunited and are gearing up for our 4 month tour of the U.S. this summer. I'm really excited to be back in cohoots with my old buddies and share that tingly feeling when we perform.

"I've been crazy busy since coming off tour and never get the chance to sleep in anymore! I have been working on my solo record, which will be a double album due for a November release. It's gonna be awesome, with many different musical influences like rock, punk, R&B as well as an eclectic blend that we've come up with over the years. Can't wait for everyone to hear it. I'm also in the process of writing my autobiography along with famed writer David Ritz, also due out toward the end of the year. It will be a collection of stories, experiences and lessons throughout my life. Definitely a good read.

"Well, I gotta hit the studio now. Ill do my best to check in every now and then. I want you to know, I ALWAYS appreciate the love and support and am excited to give you all a great tour."

Maybe Admin was thinking of starting another childboard for the former members of VR but, since they don't have a cool nickname, he didn't know what to call it and Ex-VRers just didn't cut it so it wound up here.  :hihi:

Here's the link to an exciting Electronic Press Kit (EPK) Quicktime video about Scott Weiland's new solo album "Happy In Galoshes", which is reportedly due out on Softdrive/New West Records on November 25.

The video shows interview parts with Scott and producer/multi-instrumentalist and writing partner Douglas Grean and features snippets from several new solo songs, including the Prince-influenced "Big Black Monster", and the Palo Alto cover "Some Things Must Go This Way", which was recorded in 2001.

One frame in the video shows a computer screen, which mentions the following song titles, some of which were already confirmed/mentioned in the past: "At The Prison" (produced by Steve Albini), "Big Black Monster", "Be Not Afraid", "Breath Again Again", "Crash", "Distant Shore", "Happy" (the collaboration with Pharrell Williams), "I Know It's Late", "Killing Me Sweetly", "Lift Me Up", "Learning To Drive" and "The Man I Didn't Know".

Week in Review

SPIN.com's Best of the Week, September 15-21

What we learned this week: Eminem hates his new songs. Scott Weiland's new single is awesome. Paramore really like vampires. And more.
By Spin Staff 09.19.08 6:15 PM

What we learned from Scott Weiland's new song, "Paralysis": Even booze-swilling bad boys have a big, shiny pop heart. The first track leaked from Weiland's forthcoming solo record, Happy in Galoshes, is so positive-sounding that it might help him reconcile with the remaining members of Velvet Revolver -- uh, probably not. Scott Weiland

Happy in Galoshes 11/18

"There's no rules to the stuff I do on my own," ex-Velvet Revolver frontman Scott Weiland says about his new solo disc. "I don't have to worry about radio playing it." The record ? a concept album about his tumultuous marriage ? was partially recorded by indie engineer Steve Albini, and features three-fourths of No Doubt. "I liken it to [Marvin Gaye's] 'I Met a Little Girl,' " he says. Unlike the straight-ahead hard rock of Velvet Revolver, the songs range in style from pop ("Missing Cleveland") to light electronica ("January Drum Machine Song"). "If it turns off the Stone Temple Pilot fans, so be it," he says. "There's art and there's commerce and at the age I'm at, I've accomplished the commerce part."

I saw Weiland twice on his extremely short 12 bar blues tour

amazing!! - he was like a lion let out of a cage

kinda like the cops let him loose to only perform on stage

he definitly shines as a solo act...and he should stay there

STP was nice but it is over

VR sucked pretty much

don't miss this if you can regardless of what you think of stp and vr

just my thoughts

SCOTT WEILAND Colaborator DOUG GREAN Comments On 'Happy In Galoshes' - Oct. 13, 2008

Los Angeles-based producer/engineer/guitarist Doug Grean, along with creative partner Scott Weiland, announces the culmination of their ten-year long project, Weiland's solo album "Happy in Galoshes", set for a November 25 on the duo's Softdrive Records.

Grean and Weiland collaborated on nearly every aspect of the album. One of the first songs Grean and Weiland wrote together in 1998 is "Big Black Monster". This track appears on "Happy in Galoshes", and is one of 16 songs on the album that Grean co-wrote, co-produced, engineered and mixed. Grean is also a talented multi-instrumentalist; he plays guitar, bass, lap steel, banjo, and keyboards on the album. On the road, he's not only a member in Weiland's solo band, but he also acts as musical director. Grean and Weiland are also partners in the independent label Softdrive Records, where Grean has produced and engineered five of the six albums for Softdrive artists. Also, the two co-own Lavish recording studio in Burbank.

"Most of this album was made just by Scott and I hanging out and experimenting in our studio," Grean reveals. "So it's not like a traditional record where there's a 'band.' Inspiration would strike, and one of us would just play something. When you're being spontaneous, you can't call someone up and say come on over and play the bass, that just slows things down and kills the vibe. So I ended up playing a lot of different instruments on this record."

Besides Weiland, Grean has worked with various notable musical artists, such as Sheryl Crow, Ricki Lee Jones, Glen Campbell, Slash, VELVET REVOLVER, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS, THE CRYSTAL METHOD, Tim McGraw, Cyndi Lauper, Annabella Lwin (BOW WOW WOW), Corey Glover (LIVING COLOR), CAMP FREDDY, DJ Hurricane, and John Taylor (DURAN DURAN). In 2005, Grean appeared on the 47th annual Grammy Awards with VELVET REVOLVER as keyboardist, performing "All Across the Universe" with Stevie Wonder, Norah Jones, Bono, Steven Tyler, Brian Wilson, and Alison Krauss.

Barack Obama is the leader, the listener and the visionary with international respect to take us from the depths of where we are today and bring us to a new place where dreams are made, that place is call America.  A long time ago these same dreams, same visions brought us out of a similar darkness and united us together.  More to come...

It's our imperfections and our willingness to persevere that makes us stronger.

The one that we called OURS
Oh, bought a ticket to somewhere, anywhere

Did you think of me blind cause I walked in circles
I know you thought of me unkind
But I tried to lead you through the MINEFIELD
Instead I led you to another

Pack my bags
Walkin in the Rain
Hear that voice inside my head
Drinkin that booze
And taking down names
THE PLACES I"VE SEEN THE PLACES I'VE BEEN

Call my name
Shout my name
Gotta get to the place where I lay
Driving on the freeway
Passing up cars
CRASHED my car
Gotta get outta here

Had to wrap up my heart
Had to patch up my head
At the hotel terrace OOOHHH???
Had a drink at the bar
Stumbled up and away
Every place that I go is a ghost of you

Did you think of me blind
cause I fly around in circles
I know you think of me unwise
But I tried to lead you through the MINEFIELD
Instead I led you to another

When you realized me blind
You led me round in circles
For seven years I read your lies
But still I led you through THAT MINEFIELD
On my way back through another

It came in really clear for me.  On his solo tour, he says that it will not be a split set, he says that he will be performing a couple of STP songs and one VR song.  He is asked about Chinese Democracy and says that he cannot say if it is good or not because he has only hear two songs and is complimentary to Axl.  He also talks a little about STP but does not confirm a new album.

Scott is high or drunk in that video. The editors have removed alot of mumbling from those videos.
btw. the album leaked yesterday, so that makes it almost 4 weeks before release, or what? Seems like Axl is having better luck, so far...

SCOTT WEILAND Talks New Solo Album - Nov. 11, 2008

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS/ex-VELVET REVOLVER singer Scott Weiland recently spoke to MTV.com about his forthcoming solo album, "Happy in Galoshes", which is scheduled for release on November 25.

"Most of the heavy writing that was done for this record has been done [during the] separation ... between my wife and I," said Weiland, who is working on his autobiography with author David Ritz (who has previously authored books on Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin and Marvin Gaye, among others). "In those moments of emotional desperation, [my recording] studio would become my home, really. It's a massive warehouse place that used to be a heavy-machinery factory, which originally reeked of thick machine oil. I've had the studio for about 10 years, and it's like my art studio. It's a place where I have gone for solace. It's like my church, in a sense. When people ask me if I have a hobby, a lot of times my answer is that I like to surf in warm water. I like to ski, if I have the opportunity. But really, I like to go to my studio and write music that I want to write, where there's no pressure to come up with a hit single."

They really know how to drop the ball when it comes to pre-orders, first they screwed up with CD and the multiple covers, now they screw up Weiland's solo album. Soon it'll be three days in which they've been unable to add a functioning "pre-order now" link.

Plus, singer addresses Velvet Revolver split: 'It just mistakenly kind of eroded.'

However, the suit hasn't deterred the band from working on new material, Weiland said. "I know those guys have been writing, and there's been some really cool stuff that's come about from that," he explained. "I'm proud of everything we've written. But to make another record would mean another couple of years of my life dedicated to that, and I just don't know if that's where I see myself going."

Video Interview: Inside the studio with Scott Weiland for new album "Happy" in Galoshes

by Erin Broadley
November 17, 2008 2:15 AM

The inside of Scott Weiland's personal rehearsal and recording space, Lavish Studio, is exactly as its name suggests. Past the entryway, one walks through a hallway lined with gold and platinum Stone Temple Pilots records and into the main room lit mostly by candlelight and oriental lamps that cast a red hue over the myriad instruments (and several Samurai swords) that fill the space. The floor is layered with patterned rugs, all rich in color, and the hand scrawled notes on the walls suggest late nights of fevered songwriting. It is a sanctuary of sorts -- a den of creativity that Weiland refers to as a "church" -- hidden in an narrow alleyway alongside an otherwise nondescript Los Angeles street, quiet and removed from the whirlwind city that screams outside its walls.

When I arrive for our interview, Weiland and his band are rehearsing songs off his upcoming solo album, "Happy" in Galoshes, due November 25 on Weiland's own Softdrive Records. Electricity crackles through the room as the musicians discuss each song and knock them out, one after another. The excitement is to be expected; Galoshes is Weiland's first solo album in a decade (since the release of 12 Bar Blues in 1998) and his first collection of new material since his highly publicized falling out with Velvet Revolver this past Spring.

"We weren't writing songs to write hits," Weiland explains about his and songwriting/producing partner Doug Grean's approach to Galoshes. "We looked at this place [Lavish Studio] as a place to create. It was kind of a getaway... a place to have solitude and, really, for me to write music that was true to me."

Weiland went on to discuss the emotional turmoil that went into making this album, influenced much by the death of his brother in 2007, his mother's recent battle with cancer and the legalities of separating from his wife, Mary Forsberg, with whom he has two kids. During one of the more poignant moments in our conversation, Weiland -- lost in thought, his eyes far away -- spoke of his children and how hard it is to miss any of their growing up because of touring demands.

"It pains me when I am gone for a month, even, and I come back and there's differences -- big positive amazing differences, beautiful differences -- that I haven't been a part of because I've been working... to make the money, out there on the road."

Check out the video below for an inside look at L.A. Weekly's visit to Weiland's studio and our one-on-one interview.

Q&A: Weiland "Happy" with long-in-the-works solo album

Fri Nov 21, 2008 6:35pm EST

By Gary Graff

DETROIT (Billboard) - It's been a decade since Scott Weiland's last solo album, 1998's "12 Bar Blues," but he hasn't exactly been warming the bench. The singer has been in and out of Stone Temple Pilots twice, formed and ultimately parted with Velvet Revolver, married twice, had two children and some encounters with rehab.

He also spent a good chunk of that time working on more music of his own, which surfaces November 25 on "Happy in Galoshes," a wildly eclectic two-CD set on his own Softdrive Records label, which Weiland created with writing and producing partner Doug Grean. It features contributions by Paul Oakenfold and members of No Doubt. Weiland calls it "a sonic trip -- to where, I don't know" -- but he's hoping fans are ready to strap in and take the ride with him.

Q: You left Velvet Revolver this year, toured with Stone Temple Pilots and now are releasing a solo album. You don't waste much time, do you?

Scott Weiland: Well, I've been working on ("Happy in Galoshes") for quite a while, actually. Some of the songs were recorded a few years ago, and a good chunk of them were recorded just, like, a year ago at (producer) Steve Albini's place in Chicago. There's two songs on the record that were recorded actually around nine years ago and were the first Doug (Grean) and I ever did together.

Q: Did you purposely set out to cover such a wide range of styles?

Weiland: No. That's the thing; there was absolutely no mission. It was just, wherever the inspiration takes me and takes us, we followed. The whole idea was to throw in every influence that I've ever had, whether it be Latin or bossa nova and mix it with a little modern kind of cheap beat-box kind of vibe or some ethereal touch or whatever it could be.

Q: These are very personal songs, too, aren't they?

Weiland: Yeah, they are. It's a concept album, and it's a personal concept album. There's a song on there about my dad ("The Man I Didn't Know") and a couple of songs about my brother, but mostly it really tells the tale of the relationship between my wife and (me) from the beginning until, you know, kind of the end. There were some periods of time when the pain created the most prolific periods I've ever had. Whether it's going to actually translate into commercial success or not doesn't really matter to me, because I think that my true fans will be into it for what it is.

Q: What did happen with Velvet Revolver?

Weiland: I had already talked to (guitarist) Slash and said there was going to be an STP tour, and that's the deal. And then basically (Velvet Revolver drummer) Matt Sorum just went on the Web site one night and started talking s--t about me, and I responded and I basically said from the stage that this is the last Velvet Revolver tour. Some people thought I was kidding, but I meant it.

Q: Are you planning to make a Stone Temple Pilots album now that you've toured?

Weiland: I don't know how things are going to go with STP. It was sad to find out that we're still in some way locked into a contract with Atlantic Records, which is a travesty, actually. When we signed to them it was a great label. It was a beautiful time in music. Now if you say, "We're going to do this song as the first single," they go, "OK, we're going to do some radio testing." What the ... ? When we first talked about putting STP back together, it was, "Do this tour and then see about doing a creative deal with another company." So if it ends up being we have to make a certain amount of records for Atlantic in order to be free, then I don't know if I have that in me.

'Happy' in Galoshes

Following Stone Temple Pilots' first hiatus in 1998, Scott Weiland released a solo album, "12 Bar Blues." A decade later, following his messy departure from Velvet Revolver and the return of STP, he's back with another, released on his own Softdrive label. While the debut showed him eager to step outside the confines of STP, he essentially has nothing to prove here, and as a result, it's a casual-sounding record. Some tracks, like first single "Missing Cleveland" and "Paralysis," are rockers that wouldn't sound out of place on an STP album, but there's also the Paul Oakenfold-assisted electronica cover of David Bowie's "Fame" and the bossa nova rhythm of "Killing Me Sweetly." It's definitely more ambitious than anything he did in Velvet Revolver, but it should still please fans of either of his bands. "Galoshes" is also available as a deluxe edition with a disc of additional tracks. ?Bram Teitelman

It's not as good as his first solo album, which I think is the best record he's ever been involved with, but I prefer it to Velvet Revolver and there's enough good stuff for fans of his amongst some hideous filler like the Fame cover.

SCOTT WEILAND: 'I Still Drink' - Nov. 26, 2008

TMZ.com reports that STONE TEMPLE PILOTS/ex-VELVET REVOLVER singer Scott Weiland finally admitted to what everyone who watched the American Music Awards this past Sunday (see video below) already knew ? that he still hits the bottle ... hard. On his way to Vegas, the man who's been in and out of drug rehab AND who got a DUI last year, told TMZ.com, "I still drink, I'm not perfect ... you know?"

Weiland seemed to have some difficulty with his introduction of Pink's performance of her song "Sober" at the American Music Awards, according to Virgin Radio. Host Jimmy Kimmel made fun of his slurred speech later, saying "And what a 16th birthday party (Billy Ray Cyrus) put together for Miley tonight, right? In fact, now that she's old enough to drive, maybe she could give Scott Weiland a ride home."

The 36th annual American Music Awards was broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, November 23 on ABC.

I've just finished listening to the double edition and I gotta say guys, the album is great! Much better than 12 Bar Blues, that had only 4 nice songs.

The production is top notch, and different from VR, Scott is singing very free and confident. Very nice choice for the holidays! 8)

Irony:  The admitted addict shows up drunk off his rocker to introduce 'sober'.

Props to Jimmy Kimmel for quick wit...or perhaps that line was written months ago, with full expectation that Scott would be sloshed.   :hihi:

Well man, I live in Brazil, so I had to download it. I didn't know there was a double edition first, so I had pre-ordered the single one at amazon. Now i've cancelled the order and I'm waiting for someone to put the double one for sale at Ebay, so I can buy it.

Got the double CD version--it's worth the extra money--but I can see why those songs didn't make the single version as they are a bit more out there.

This album is a grower, starting to really get into it, although I liked his first CD more.

Super-rocker Scott Weiland finds freedom in his music

By Edna Gundersen, USA TODAY

BURBANK, Calif. ? Scott Weiland, famed frontman for two rock supergroups, has discovered solo work's prize and penalty: liberation and loneliness.

"I've been recording in between periods of romantic torture, which is the concept of this album," says the singer, whose divorce from his second wife, Mary Forsberg, informs several anguished lyrics on second solo album Happy in Galoshes. "Writing these songs has been my saving grace. I have felt in the past like a marionette. This album is my freedom."

Weiland, 41, is smoking and impeccably attired as usual when he takes a seat in the control booth of his Lavish Studios, a former machine shop transformed into a dim sanctuary with candles, recording gear and red lanterns hanging from a velvet-draped ceiling.

He sounds by turns defiant and wounded as he recounts the events leading to this pivotal juncture. His career is rebooting, but his personal life, littered with arrests, substance abuse and rehabs, has sapped him. Last year, his mother was diagnosed with cancer, and his brother suffered a fatal drug overdose. His grandfather is dying of emphysema. He's especially distraught over his split from Forsberg.

"When you're in love, you've found your soul mate, you think life is going one way, and suddenly it's completely apparent it's not. You have to rethink your whole purpose," he says, adding haltingly, "She's the love of my life, and I'll always love her."

He sits a little straighter and says: "This record has helped a lot. I was focused. I'm doing what I want to do creatively, and that's kept me going."

Weiland co-produced the new 13-track Happy for his Softdrive label with songwriting partner Doug Grean. Paul Oakenfold and members of No Doubt crop up, and Weiland covers The Smiths' Reel Around the Fountain (on the two-CD deluxe edition) and David Bowie's Fame.

Happy took shape during a tumultuous decade after the release of solo debut 12 Bar Blues in 1998. In 2003, he left Stone Temple Pilots, the grunge-era giant that sold 35 million albums globally and spawned six No. 1 singles, including Grammy-winning Plush. In 2004, former Guns N' Roses players enlisted Weiland to sing in Velvet Revolver, another hard-rock juggernaut that fired him April 1 after acrimonious exchanges.

"There were too many egos, and I'm not leaving myself out of the mix," Weiland says. "It was a recipe for incredible success and disaster."

The highly touted STP reunion tour followed, leaving fans clamoring for a new album. Weiland is on the fence.

"When you commit to a band that big that sold so many records and touched that many people, you can't easily get out of it," he says. "I'm finally on my own, at a place I've wanted to be for so long."

Not surprisingly, Happy is as motley and unconventional as his lifestyle.

"It's definitely eclectic," Grean says. "He's really breaking the mold people put him in as this heavy rock/grunge superstar. There's country and jazzy and bossa nova stuff that redefines him. It was a fun, challenging, unpredictable experiment. The hardest part was carving out time. He kept doing things like getting into a superband."

They formed a "trauma bond" 14 years ago when Grean's brother, who is in rehab, "got a crazy new roommate in the middle of the night," Grean says. "He had a mountain of baggage, I mean actual luggage. I wasn't a huge STP fan, but we became friends."

Weiland's figurative baggage is substantial, too. He served a day in jail May 12 for a DUI arrest a year ago. He still drinks but points out he kicked heroin six years ago. In March, he completed a stint in rehab.

"When my wife was divorcing me, I relapsed on cocaine for three months, and I put myself in rehab without telling the band because I knew there would be manipulation for me to complete the tour," he says.

It's not the only reason he's gun-shy about band duty.

"There's a beauty in being part of a band, when there's equality and trust," he says. "But at this phase of my life, I want to write and not have to think about whether a song is going to be a hit. I want to explore the music that inspires me, and I don't want to ape myself.

"I've been saying for a long time that I couldn't see myself shaking my (butt) in leather pants when I'm 40. My goal in STP was to leave an imprint. That was done. I want to move forward and be in control of what I do musically. I have kids, and I don't want to spend my life on the road."

Noah, 8, and Lucy, 6, have altered his priorities and calmed a chaotic lifestyle. He's considering a move from Los Angeles.

"On the veneer, it's a lovely place, but the underbelly is dark and insidious. Everyone wants what everyone else has."

Having experienced its dark side, Weiland no longer craves the veneer of rock stardom.

"I'm a disciple of David Bowie, and I see myself at that crossroad of Young Americans and the Berlin records," Weiland says, citing the Brit icon's transition from 1975's rock/soul hit to his late-'70s experimental trilogy.

"I want to surround myself with people who understand the music that inspires me. I don't want to get battered from throwing myself around on stage. I want a performance style that's more cerebral and emotional than physical. I want to be a creative artist, not a whirling dervish."

In Scott's defense. this is a solo album on his own record label. He has no promotional budget, no big time label pushing his stuff to radio etc etc, no TV ads and all that.

So he will make a nice amount of cash just off 10k.

From rock star to rehab and back again

Rocker Scott Weiland has fallen off the wagon. Despite an 18-month court ordered alcohol rehab program (stemming from a 2007 DUI), Weiland was ?hitting the hard stuff backstage and was noticeably messed up? during a solo gig at the Fillmore-Irving Plaza on Friday night.

?He was over an hour late to take the stage, and audience members were commenting on how drunk and sloppy he seemed,? says our spy.
?It didn?t help that the crowd was booing him and shouting at him to play his Stone Temple Pilots songs.? Weiland?s rep denied the claim that he was drunk.

I really like this album.  It's nothing too extraordinary, but it's very cool and peaceful.  I like just laying back and jamming out to it....it has that nice feel.  My friends really enjoy some of the stuff on it also.

SCOTT WEILAND's Busy New Year's Eve - Dec. 12, 2008

Singer Scott Weiland (STONE TEMPLE PILOTS, ex-VELVET REVOLVER) will join "American Idol" winner David Cook as a performer on the Fox network's "New Year's Live", which will be aired from the Mirage in Las Vegas. The show begins at 11 p.m. on December 31 and will also feature a "death-defying" motorcycle stunt by Robbie Knievel, son of legendary daredevil Evel Knievel.

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS ? including, presumably, Weiland ? is scheduled to perform New Year's Eve at Club Nokia in Los Angeles. They will also play two days later in Las Vegas, Nevada at earl Concert Theater at Palms Casino.

"Missing Cleveland", the new video from Scott Weiland, can be viewed below. The clip was directed by Kevin Kerslake, who has previously helmed videos for such artists as THE USED, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, ATREYU, PAPA ROACH and VELVET REVOLVER. The song comes off Weiland's second solo album, "Happy In Galoshes", which sold 10,500 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 96 on The Billboard 200 chart.

Scott performed Sunday at the Kroq Almost Acoustic Christmas show...

Scott Weiland

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hj3bTxuiv_s

Review:

Overall, it was quite a night, one of the strongest in years. There was only one glaring error: Scott Weiland's terrible solo set, which opened with a weak rendition of the Smiths' "Reel around the Fountain" and only got progressively worse. Singing in a laughably arch, pseudo-theatrical Bowie style with an overdone, drawn-out vibrato, Weiland was simply lost in his own world ? and the crowd, half of which streamed out when he started, could tell.

I will say that his miserable Stone Temple Pilots set Saturday night now seems to be just laziness, not a case of drugs taking hold. But that doesn't explain (or excuse) how poor his enervated, self-indulgent Sunday performance was. Not surprisingly, hardly anyone clapped when it was over. Honestly, I don't think anyone knew what to make of it.

Stone Temple Pilot inks Bug deal

13:59 | Friday December 19, 2008

By Shelley Jones

Scott Weiland has signed a new publishing deal with Bug Music including his share of the Stone Temple Pilots catalogue and songs from future solo projects.

As part of the agreement Weiland will receive funding to pursue the development of creative projects and writers for Bug Music through his co-founded label, Softdrive Records.

The deal follows a resurgence of popularity in Stone Temple Pilots resulting from their recent reformation and concert tour.

Bug Music senior vice-president of creative services Eddie Gomez says, ?I believe that Stone Temple Pilots catalogue has really stood the test of time, and that the band and their songs sound as good today as they ever have.?

He says regarding STP... It's all good, we want to make records.  The only problem is the problem with Atlantic Records.

Weiland's album ?Happy in Galoshes? deals with lost love

By SANDY COHEN

Associated Press Posted Jan 01, 2009

This album is really my heart and soul,'' Weiland says, sitting in the studio?s glass-enclosed control booth with an acoustic guitar on his lap, "because this is my playground.''

Weiland  plays at the Paradise Rock Club in Boston on Jan. 25.

Over the past decade, the Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver frontman escaped to the studio again and again ? when STP broke up and reunited, when he and his wife broke up and reunited.

"Whenever he had some time, he would come in and we?d either write a song or record a song or something,'' says Doug Grean, Weiland?s longtime friend and musical collaborator.  "Every time he got fed up with the big rock machine, the corporate machine, he would come in and do a song. Every time he got kicked out of his house by his wife, he would come in and do a song.''

Most of those tracks appear on the recently released "Happy in Galoshes.''

The title is a tad ironic, since Weiland isn?t exactly what you?d call a happy type ? especially lately. The 41-year-old rocker continues to be dogged by his drug addiction, though trips to rehab and jail have become less frequent. Last year, his brother died of a drug overdose, his mother was diagnosed with cancer, he had a dramatic split with Velvet Revolver and hit the road with STP. He is also going through an "unexpected divorce'' from wife Mary, with whom he has two children.

"It?s been a rough year and a half,'' says Weiland, who delves into his personal issues without provocation or reservation. In flowing, stream-of-consciousness style, he talks about his drug problems, his divorce, jail, blogging, high school, being a dad and the war in Iraq. He switches subjects without warning or reason. But there is an earnestness to him, a sort of wounded sincerity.

He talks about his 8-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter and how he tried to keep STP?s reunion tour short so he could spend more time with them. He shares how uncontrolled drug use derailed his first solo album, 1998?s "12 Bar Blues,'' and how most of the musicians went to rehab before the record was released. He talks about his other stints in treatment and jail and confesses: "I currently don?t have my driver?s license. I?ll be able to get it back in a couple months.'' He reveals that ``Happy in Galoshes'' is about his relationship with his wife, whom he married in 2000.

"It?s a concept album of the love lost between she and I,'' Weiland says. ``It chronicles our relationship from the moment that we got married and really, every time there was a separation is when I would come in here and live here basically and just purge.''

The album is a genre-defying collection of 19 songs ? some hard rock, some pop tunes, some folksy tracks and a cover of David Bowie?s  "Fame.''

But "Happy'' is likely his last double-disc effort, says Grean.  "The next record?s going to be totally different,'' he says. "We might do a country album next time.''  :D

Screaming STP at Scott Shows

So we've finished the first set of tour dates. These were all radio shows and we are really happy with how it all went. It started off good and end great. It happens with all bands, the more shows you play the better and tighter the set gets. I think we were really ooking by the NYC show and just got hotter as we went along. But I have to say that the last show, the Chicago show was probably the best we've played.

On a side note, we've added another STP song to the set "Unglued". People having been yelling for us to play STP songs at every show and this is understandable. But you guys have to understand a few things. To begin with there is a another band called STP that is actually out there touring and if you want to hear a whole set of STP tunes you can pretty easily go see them, they were just on tour for 5 months and they are doing a few shows next week. So it's not like they are broken up and you can't ever see them anymore. That's not the case. So that's one reason not to sit there screaming STP at a Scott solo show.

Also Scott WANTS to play his solo stuff, that's what this "Solo" touring stuff is all about. He wants to establish an identity for himself that separate from STP and VR. So if you buy a ticket to a Scott Weiland Solo tour concert you should be prepared to hear mostly Scott Weiland Solo songs.

Finally I think you should know that we all love STP (me and the solo band). And we love playing their great songs. I myself have worked on their last 2 records. I know and I'm friends with all of them and by not playing much of their stuff we are not trying to be disrespectful. We are actually just respecting Scott's wishes and supporting his vision for his solo identity.

So if you want to come and yell STP at the show's that cool. We don't get mad or anything. And every one has the "Freedom of Speech" whatever they want. You could even yell "Doug Grean is a fat sloppy live guitar player" and you'd be within your rights. But what I guess I'm asking you for is to be patient and understanding and let Scott do what he wants to do for now. There will be plenty of time and chances for you to hear the STP boys rock the fuck out of their awesome catalog in the future.

Please be understanding of this post - it's written with the best intentions and wishes that everyone gets what they want. The fans, the bands, and the singers.

Thanks
DG

A day in the life of...

ANGER ISSUES

January 9, 2009 --

FRESH out of another stint in rehab, former Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland (above) is already losing his composure. The onetime heroin addict was with a female friend at Primo, a hip coffee shop on the Sunset Strip on Monday, when they got into a screaming fight. A spy said, "Scott called the girl a piece of trash, so she threw her pack of cigarettes at his head, but missed. They landed on [producer] Darren Star's table." The woman stormed out and Weiland raged after her.

Best of Scott Weiland

Just an FYI to all you STP/VR fans- We have learned some more STP/VR songs so they may or may not be showing up in the set after all. We (the band) know it's important to you guys so we went ahead and learned a bunch. Now it's up to Scott to decide what he wants to play and when. Remember it's his show and he calls the tune.

Also another thing worth mentioning is that we are doing a lot more improvisational stuff. So be prepared to hear more of that on this tour as well.

Weiland Vegas Jam from Last week

Last week we taped a few songs for Fox to air on New Years Eve. When ever we do some TV like this it's always a very uptight scene. You know with all the cameras and producers and what not. Not to mention the fact that they staged the gig in a very fancy Dance Club/disco. Basically full of club kids that were not really Scott fans but just there for the "scene". So the script was for us to go on and play three songs and then play the last song twice. The last song was Cleveland the song that was for broadcast. Well what happened was we got out there on the stage in this crazy disco and Scott turned to me and said hey lets "Set the Vibe" and by that he ment "fuck it lets just jam for a while until we start feeling and then we'll do what the want us to do" and we are all really into improvjaming these days so.... We launched into a 9 minute Barn burning super jam. Well about 5 minutes into this thing the directors and managers start freaking out because we'd gone off the plan. They started coming up to the stahe and making the cut motions. But being rebelious rockers and also just being into it we just kept rocking. Until eventually they pulled the plug on us. They did get the version of Cleveland that we promised and a really long rock jam they probably didn't know what to do with. And it turns out that some body in the club taped it and we just found out today that the recording is out there floating around the internet. The quality is not very good but since it's already out we've decided to mix down a better version of it and post it around the softdrive site as a special present from us to you.

I think you'll dig it.

Scott Weiland Seeks Sweaty Redemption Onstage as Solo Tour Rolls Into Austin

1/20/09

?I ain?t no sinner,? Scott Weiland announced before he and the three guitarists and drummer comprising his five-piece band launched into a fevered rendition of ?Interstate Love Song,? the alternative-rock classic by Stone Temple Pilots, one of a handful of bands Weiland experienced problems with, presumably due to his well-chronicled, heroin-related sins.

Weiland at least gave the appearance of a redeemed rocker Friday at La Zona Rosa in Austin. It was the second stop on a tour in support of his second solo album, Happy in Galoshes, which arrives a decade after its predecessor, 12 Bar Blues. Weiland looked svelte in a dapper three-piece suit. He danced his own frenetic version of the twist, with the stamina of a long-distance runner. His only onstage vice was the occasional cigarette.

The thirtysomething males in the audience went as ballistic during ?Interstate? as they did during fellow STP heavies ?Vaseline? and ?Unglued,? raising their devil-horn hands high above their heads. In between said golden oldies, Weiland tried out the new stuff, albeit to lukewarm reception. That might have had less to do with the quality and presentation of the songs ? ?Paralysis,? in particular, with its foot-stomping refrain, ?call my name, shout my name,? playing out against a backdrop of an EKG graphic and female silhouettes common to the mudflaps of 18-wheelers, was especially exhilarating ? as it did with the scattershot nature of the songs. One minute there was a Latin lounge vibe, as on ?Killing Me Sweetly?; the next there was an industrial tone with electronic accents, as on ?Big Black Monster.?

But while Weiland?s repertoire was erratic, his faith in the absolution of his sins remained steadfast when, tiny bubbles floating about the stage during encore lead-off ?Beautiful Day,? he reiterated his newfound disposition: ?Doing well/Feeling fine/Modulate/Higher mind.?

Set List:

?Reel Around the Fountain?
?Killing Me Sweetly?
?Vasoline?
?Paralysis?
?Mockingbird Girl?
?Atlanta?
?Big Black Monster?
?Unglued?
?Blind Confusion?
?Interstate Love Song?
(Space Jam)
?Barbarella?
Encore:
?Beautiful Day?
?Missing Cleveland?

Scott Weiland and Rock & Roll Religion Launch Contemporary Collection - Weiland for English Laundry

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Scott Weiland, legendary lead singer of Stone Temple Pilots, and Christopher Wicks, designer and owner Rock & Roll Religion, have announced the launch of their much anticipated contemporary men's collection -- Weiland for English Laundry. This inaugural collection will debut at Magic Las Vegas on February 17, 2009.

(Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20090121/LA60855)

Christopher Wicks, designer and owner of English Laundry, Fender: The Clothing Collection, and The Jimi Hendrix Experience, has teamed with Scott Weiland to create a collection that embodies the iconic style of the fashionable STP front man.

"From early on, I was inspired by rock icons like David Bowie and Keith Richards who helped in molding my personal sense of style," said Weiland. "I am really looking forward to launching this line with Christopher Wicks and English Laundry."

"I have the utmost respect for Scott Weiland, both as an artist and as a designer," said Wicks. "He is truly one of the last great rock stars, and his impact on style and music is undeniable. I am proud to be joining forces with him for this collaboration."

Weiland for English Laundry is a lifestyle brand for the true rock rebel. The overall concept is derived from the rock decadence of the 1960's, and inspirations were taken from Savile Row circa 1965 and renowned bands such as The Kinks, Beatles, and Rolling Stones. Eclectic combinations of fabrics, patterns and color have been reformulated to replicate the rich rock culture that defined that era.

The collection boasts a variety of wovens, vests, t-shirts, pants, hats, ties and scarves. All fabrics are based on original vintage patterns circa 1965 through 1979 and have been reproduced for modern-day wear. Pants have a tailored narrow fit with flat fronts, and wovens feature bold chalk stripes, Prince of Wales plaids and tonic two-tone solids.

Retail price points range from $40 - $120 with a targeted distribution to better department and specialty stores. Weiland for English Laundry has successfully combined English Laundry's famous craftsmanship with Scott Weiland's infamous flare. Weiland for English Laundry can be found at the English Laundry flagship store (7519 Melrose Avenue, Los Angeles, California) and at www.globalrebels.com in February of 2009.

Winding Down

Well we are almost done with this tour. It's sad because we have all had such a good time. I've had a chance to meet a lot of you guys and I have to say your all super cool. Not a dickhead in the bunch! (hahaha). We have 4 shows Left- Denver - Frisco- San Diego and LA and if you have not got a chance to see the show I urge you to do so. It's a pretty good show and very unique. No two are the same. The song list has not changed much but the 3 extended inprovs we do are different every night. And that keeps things fun and exciting and on edge.

Anyways there is talk of doing another tour in the spring but right now it's just talk. I will let you know more when I find out anything official.

Thanks for all being SO cool. You guys rock!

The cable network is ordering about 10 new episodes of "Music," bringing back the iconic documentary program that ran for several years on VH1 starting in 1997.

Lil Wayne and Scott Weiland have signed on to participate, with the network near agreements with several other artists.

Interesting..

Wonder if they'll stick to the formulaic "rise to prominence, fall from grace, reemerge victorious" format.

They could do a mini series on Weiland...

So true. :hihi:

There hasn't been too much on Scott Weiland lately.  In one of those recent Duff interviews the DJ said that Scott told him that he was going back to rehab, this time for alcohol.  I wonder if that will be yet another chapter.

SCOTT WEILAND: New Performance, Interview Footage Shot For VH1's 'Behind The Music' - Mar. 20, 2009

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS/ex-VELVET REVOLVER frontman Scott Weiland and his band were filmed performing ten songs in the studio for the upcoming Weiland episode of "Behind The Music", the popular VH1 series that is being revived by the network three years after it stopped producing new installments.

A brand new video blog from Scott's business partner and touring guitarist Doug Grean regarding the "Behind The Music" shoot can be viewed below.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, 10 new "Behind The Music" episodes have been ordered by VH1, with Weiland and rapper Lil Wayne the only subjects confirmed so far. VH1 executive VP of original programming Jeff Olde said about the show's return, "It felt like the time is right. There's all sorts of new artists on the scene who have emerged and have these great stories. And there's other artists that we always wanted to do the first time around."

"Behind The Music" aired regularly between 1997 and 2002, with only a few new episodes produced until 2006.

The show featured segments on a number of iconic hard rock acts, such as METALLICA and PANTERA.

The show's standard formula of showing an artist's rise, fall and comeback was so well-known that "The Simpsons" parodied it in 2000.

SCOTT WEILAND's SOFTDRIVE RECORDS Releases First Online Reality Webisode - Apr. 7, 2009

Boutique record label Softdrive Records has released the first in a series of webisodes intended to document the day-to-day functions, difficulties, and grassroots efforts of an independent record label in today's faltering economy and digitally driven music business.

Softdrive Records is the brainchild of STONE TEMPLE PILOTS and ex-VELVET REVOLVER frontman Scott Weiland and producer/engineer/guitarist Doug Grean.

Grean commented, "I was unaware of the power of YouTube, but last year Adam Kirr suggested we try video blogs. The fans loved it, and it turned out that both Scott and I really enjoyed it as well."

After the resounding success of Grean's video blog from the most recent Scott Weiland solo tour, Softdrive has opened its doors to the video blog world. Utilizing candid office shots, musical performances from Weiland, Grean, and the Softdrive artist roster, as well as update segments and office hijinks, the Softdrive Records team will invite fans to experience the operations behind a small record label.

Shot and edited in true DIY fashion, the Softdrive webisodes aim to document the personalities and operations behind the record labels efforts. "We'd really like fans to see that Softdrive is really more like a family than a company. It's an intimate operation," says Arik Garcia, A&R/recording engineer for Softdrive Records. Webisodes will be released bi-monthly on the Softdrive street team YouTube account, allowing time to record and edit fresh material for each update.

Softdrive Records operates out of Weiland and Grean's private studio in Burbank, California, leaving the door open for surprise guest appearances and cameos from recording artists and friends of the pair.

Scott Weiland Loses It

Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland certainly raised a lot of eyebrows last weekend when he turned up to the Float and 207 Grand Opening at the Hard Rock Hotel San Diego looking less than hip n? happening. So is the self-confessed former drug addict engaging in other bad habits?

According to insiders, Weiland was totally "jittery and couldn?t sit still."

"People would ask him questions (a simple ?how are you? or someone saying hello) or ask him to stand somewhere for a photo and it would take him a while to process these minute requests," said our inside source, adding that his performance was amazing but the second he came off-stage he was acting very, very odd again.

Mary Weiland has written a book...

Fall to Pieces

A Memoir of Drugs, Rock 'n' Roll, and Mental Illness

Mary Weiland

On Sale: 10/27/2009

On the surface Mary Weiland had a fairy-tale life. She was a highly paid fashion model married to successful rock star Scott Weiland, the notorious frontman for Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver. Then came the rampage in a Burbank hotel room and the resulting media frenzy that revealed to the world her bipolar disorder and drug abuse.

In Fall to Pieces, Weiland describes the extreme highs and lows of her life, the volatility of which long hinted at mental illness. Working with acclaimed journalist Larkin Warren, Weiland tells her story with refreshing candor, unflinching detail, and more than a little humor. Reminiscent of celebrity memoirs by Tatum O'Neill, Brooke Shields, and Valerie Bertinelli, Weiland's story offers a window into the world of modeling and rock ?n? roll celebrity while providing deep insights into a serious and misunderstood psychological disorder.

SCOTT WEILAND Issues Response To Public Outrage Towards Estranged Wife's Book - June 3, 2009

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS/ex-VELVET REVOLVER singer Scott Weiland has issued a statement in response to media reports that his estranged wife, Mary, will publish a memoir called "Fall To Pieces" on October 27. A press release describes the book as "a visceral rollercoaster ride inside bipolar disorder, rock 'n' roll, celebrity culture, and the competitive world of modeling from a rock star wife and recovering drug addict," adding, "On the surface, Mary Weiland had a fairy-tale life. She was a highly paid fashion model married to successful rock star Scott Weiland, the notorious frontman for STONE TEMPLE PILOTS and VELVET REVOLVER. Then came the rampage in a Burbank hotel room and the resulting media frenzy that revealed to the world her bipolar disorder and drug abuse."

The press release also states that Mary "describes the extreme highs and lows of her life" in the book, saying that she tells her story with "refreshing candor, unflinching detail, and more than a little humor."

Scott's statement, which was issued earlier today (Wednesday, June 3), reads as follows:

"When I was 16 years old, I dreamed of being a famous rock star. I never knew what came along with it ? the good, the bad, and the straight-up bullshit. I thought that creating beauty would bring beauty... Not always. At 16, Mary dreamed of being a famous model. She came close but she gave up her career for [the couple's kids] Noah, Lucy, and myself. She never got to see the 'what could have happened.'

"Well, as everyone knows by now, we are getting divorced and yes, Mary is writing a book which I have not read. But what I want everyone to know that it has nothing to do with infidelity. Neither the divorce nor the book. Please don't place the red letter upon my children's mother.

"One last thing... My love for her will never end. We just forgot how to be friends. She has now chosen a public career and one that brings both accolades and public scrutiny. There will be more of this sort of thing to deal with as time goes by... both good and bad.

"Divorce is hell, I remember it well and we deal with it every day. And if you think about it, we both have our 'what-ifs' and 'why-nots,' but it's no cheaters' story and all I ask is to not see her cry."

Mary Weiland revealed two years ago that she suffered from bipolar disorder, after she and Scott got into a violent altercation and damaged a hotel room in Burbank, California. She set fire to his wardrobe the following day.

The couple have been estranged at least twice before, with Mary starting divorce proceedings at one point several years ago.

Although Scott Weiland's previously reported memoir has yet to materialize, he told The Pulse of Radio that the recent disintegration of his marriage was the subject of most of his latest solo album, "Happy In Galoshes". "Every time I'd be out of the house and I'd be living in a hotel or renting a house or at a friend's house, that's when I would just basically be living in the studio, and writing a song a day," he said. "Sometimes two. There were some periods of time when the pain created most of the prolific stuff that I've ever done, I think."

I'm not sure what public outrage he is talking about, but that is kind of cool of him to say, but I'd love to read the book-he sounds like a guy with a lot of issues, both with drugs and some sort  of parinoid/depressive type of illness

SCOTT WEILAND's Estranged Wife's Talks About Memoir - Sep. 15, 2009

Mary Forsberg Weiland ? mother, model, bipolar disorder survivor and recovering drug addict ? beautifully tells the story of her life and her longtime relationship with STONE TEMPLE PILOTS/former VELVET REVOLVER frontman Scott Weiland in her new book "Fall To Pieces: A Memoir Of Drugs, Rock 'N' Roll, And Mental Illness" ? written with Larkin Warren ? due out November 10 via William Morrow/HarperCollins Publishers.

In her memoir, Mary reveals the extreme highs and lows of her life with refreshing candor and unflinching detail. She offers a window into the world of modeling and rock 'n' roll, while at the same time providing deep insights into the drug and alcohol addictions that could have killed her, and her serious, recently diagnosed and misunderstood mental illness.

Mary explains her reason for writing this book and why she felt bipolar disorder was an important subject to address: "I reject the stigma that the words 'mental illness' carry and I'd love to be a part of the movement to eliminate it." She continues: "After my bipolar diagnosis, I read countless books on the subject. I had a difficult time connecting to them because my story often lacked the intense mania that so many people struggle with. I'm hoping that someone who may be wrestling with similar demons to mine can find even an ounce of hope in 'Fall To Pieces'."

Inspired by books from public figures documenting their own struggles ? including Brooke Shields' "Down Came The Rain", about a journey through postpartum depression, and Carrie Fisher's "Wishful Drinking" ? Mary felt it was important to share her story, despite fears of how revealing her personal battles might affect her family. "Overall, I'm an honest and open person, so spilling my beans came quite easy, but memoirs and motherhood is a difficult marriage to broker," she says. "Keeping authenticity while trying to protect my children felt a lot like walking a tightrope. In the end, though, I was able to write about that challenge too, so the whole process felt like an honest entry in the so-called diary that became this book."

In "Fall To Pieces", Mary discusses:

* A childhood filled with depression, instability, early addictive tendencies, an overdose and a stint in juvenile hall.
* Meeting Scott Weiland, then an aspiring musician, for the first time at age 16 when he showed up to drive her to and from modeling gigs for $8 an hour.
* The Fourth of July party at Leonardo DiCaprio's house in Malibu, where the Weilands arrived in long-sleeved turtlenecks to hide needle tracks and scabs.
* Her frequent calls to JANE'S ADDICTION guitarist Dave Navarro, who somehow always seemed to know where Scott was.
* Scott's marriage proposal, which followed Mary's seventh rehab stay ? and the positive pregnancy test that came soon after.
* The "domestic battery charges" that weren't true but that got Scott back into rehab ? and the supportive phone call from Robert Downey, Jr. reassuring Mary that she'd done the right thing.
* The "Weiland Wardrobe Bonfire" three-day headline-making breakdown in Burbank, CA in 2007 that led to Mary's ultimate diagnosis of bipolar disorder, successful treatment, and a new life of health and hope for the future. Of the incident, she now says: "I unraveled. I don't know all the answers to what happened that day I just remember my true self watched helplessly as I fell into deep mania. Writing about it certainly helped me answer a few questions? but not all."

Advance praise for "Fall To Pieces":

"Mary Weiland's beautifully crafted memoir takes the reader through the journey that is so very common today, the slow drift into addiction and mental illness. 'Fall To Pieces' is perhaps the most vivid rendition of this experience I have ever come across. Honest, clear, and accurate, Mary takes us into the reality of a world that is idealized in the tabloids. I have always loved Mary and Scott Weiland, but never more than now." ? Dr. Drew Pinsky, host of "Loveline" and "Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew", author of "The Mirror Effect" and "Cracked"

"Want to take a trip to the dark side and back? 'Fall to Pieces' is a brutally honest and compelling account of Mary Weiland's struggles with addiction and mental illness that will have you on the edge of your seat with every turn of the page. This is a cautionary story that offers hope and solution to these often seemingly hopeless conditions. Brave, bold and unfiltered, Mary's writing injects humor and levity in a way that is both entertaining and necessary, while keeping the focus on the extremely serious and life threatening behaviors that she confronts. Many people don't have the opportunity to come back and share their experiences, and I have no doubt that this important book will help save many lives." ? Dave Navarro

"Mary Weiland describes the depths of madness and addiction with surprising clarity. 'Fall To Pieces' is a wild, gripping story, told with intense emotional honesty." ? Terri Cheney, New York Times bestselling author of "Manic"

Exclusive: Scott Weiland Suffers Seizure on Airplane
9/18/09, 7:45 pm EST

Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland experienced a mild seizure on a commercial flight from Los Angeles on the way to Miami that resulted in the plane having to make an emergency landing at Dallas Fort Worth Airport.

See exclusive pics of Scott Weiland backstage and on-stage during his solo tour

A rep traveling with Weiland tells Rolling Stone exclusively that the airplane staff called for medical assistance over the loud speaker and had to administer oxygen to Weiland. Shortly after, Weiland had come to and was ?in good spirits? as was taken off the plane for the hospital.

Weiland was traveling with his Scott Weiland Band to Miami for a performance and the launch of his clothing line Weiland for English Laundry at the club Mansion. The rep said the singer has a history of seizures, but is now ?doing great? and expects to leave for Miami tomorrow and appear at the club as scheduled.

Scott Weiland, 'Tangle With Your Mind' -- Video Premiere

Posted on Oct 9th 2009

Scott Weiland isn't the type of artist that you'd necessarily call "cute" but, sure enough, his new video for the track 'Tangle With Your Mind' is, well, cute. For his part, Weiland says that "arts and crafts-y" was actually the vibe he was going for.

"I had watched this movie called 'The Science of Sleep' about a year ago and I fell in love with the film," Weiland tells Spinner. "I thought it was such a cool and interesting approach and I wanted to use that in a video sometime."

Simultaneously, Weiland had the idea that he wanted to reach out to film students and see if he could give someone a big break. Like, a really big break. So when relative newcomer Dennis Roberts came up with a treatment that was surprisingly close to what Weiland had already envisioned, he got the go ahead. "I was really impressed," says Weiland. "I've worked with huge video directors and [Roberts] and his crew were just as professional as anyone I've ever worked with." Perhaps that's because it wasn't actually Roberts' first rodeo - he's directed videos for artists such as Beck and Simian before this.

Nonetheless, Weiland says that 'Tangle with Your Mind' was a "really fun video to make." We're happy to report that it's also a fun one to watch.

Scott Weiland and wife's heroin fireworks

Last Updated: 4:12 AM, October 24, 2009

Mary Forsberg Weiland and her husband, Stone Temples Pilot frontman Scott Weiland, were so addicted to heroin they showed up to a Fourth of July party at the Malibu home of Leonardo DiCaprio wearing long sleeves -- just to hide the track marks.

So writes the former model -- now drug-free -- in her new memoir, "Fall to Pieces: A Memoir of Drugs, Rock 'n' Roll, and Mental Illness." Weiland, who wrote the book with former Esquire editor Larkin Warren, first met the rocker when he was hired by her agency to ferry her to and from modeling gigs for $8 an hour. The couple, now separated, had a tumultuous relationship:

 * On setting fire to Scott's designer clothes after an argument in March of 2007 -- which led to Mary's diagnosis of bipolar disorder: "The bonfire was huge and very pretty. Everything went up in smoke quickly, except the shoe leather; the Guccis took the longest," she writes. "The news reports said I'd torched $10,000 worth of Scott's clothes, which was wrong by a factor of eight. He was somewhat insulted at their estimate: 'Eighty thousand dollars, Mary,' he said later."

* On doing heroin with Scott: "Scott would bring me a framed Neil Zlozower photograph of Keith Richards; I'd lay out the goods right on top of Keith."

* On attending a party at the Playboy Mansion with Scott: "I had no clue till much later that Scott's time in the bathroom was spent with a crack pipe in his mouth."

* On being asked out by Pauly Shore when she was a 16-year-old model: "I managed to get so drunk at the Roxbury that when Pauly suggested it was time to call it a night, I couldn't tell him where I lived. Did not have a purse; did not have any money . . . Mr. Shore then proved himself to be a complete gentleman (I think this may come as a shock to some people). He took me to his house, settled me into a room by myself, set the clock, and made me take an aspirin and drink a lot of water."

The book goes on sale Nov. 10.

Scott Weiland Auctions Off Personal Items
by Paul Cashmere - December 8 2009

Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland will auction off many of his personal items to raise money for the ArchAngel Organisation.

Weiland formed ArchAngel after his brother Michael died in 2007 after a long battle with drug addiction.

"The overall idea is to grow this into something more, while still helping my brother's family, and to also reach out and help families who are or have recently been through the same painful and seemingly hopeless situation,? Scott said in a statement. ?For now however, this is what we can and what we are able to do. Have fun with it and know that 100% of the profits are going to help my sister-in-law and my nieces Sophie and Claudette."

Items for auction include designer suits and denim, a guitar signed by Stone Temple Pilots and what Scott calls ?some crud?.

All proceeds will go to Michael?s widow and two children.

Scott Weiland to release ?Live in Los Angeles? in March?

I?ve got a bit of an exclusive for you guys this morning? currently unconfirmed, but all signs are pointing to a live album from Scott Weiland coming at the end of March.

The show was recorded last year in Los Angeles at the Henry Fonda theater during Weiland?s brief solo jaunt. The tour was in support of his last solo album, ?Happy? in Galoshes.

The live album should be out by the end of March. It may be released as a stand-alone record or may be bundled with a re-release of ?Happy? in Galoshes. Weiland?s a phenomenal live performer and while his voice has changed over the years due to his previous drug habits, he?s still got more charisma than any other frontman out there.

The show that took place at the Henry Fonda theater featured Scott?s solo stuff, some STP tracks (?Interstate Love Song,? ?Vasoline?) and a few covers. If I remember correctly he covered both Jane?s Addiction?s ?Mountain Song? and The Smiths? ?Reel Around the Fountain,? so hopefully those will make the cut. It?ll definitely make for a good live LP.

An interview with Mary Weiland...

Interview: Mary Forsberg Weiland Talks Fall to Pieces, Scott Weiland and More?

Mary Forsberg Weiland penned a story that's simultaneously inspiring, thought-provoking, harrowing, funny and very tangible with her autobiography, Fall to Pieces: A Memoir of Drugs, Rock 'N' Roll and Mental Illness. The real crazy thing is, it's all true too! Mary's gone on a quite the journey, and now she just wants to help people with her story. There's no doubt that she will?

Mary sat down with ARTISTdirect.com editor and Dolor author Rick Florino for an exclusive video interview about Fall to Pieces, the story behind a very "interesting" Stone Temple Pilots song, what instantly struck her about Scott Weiland and one "unforgettable" night on the road in Denver?

Check out the video here and below!

Scott Weiland To Appear On Carlos Santana Album

Santana hopes to keep the love going on his next album, another project overseen by Davis that continues the guest-laden path of "Supernatural," "Shaman" (2002) and "All That I Am" (2005) -- only this time adding iconic rock songs to the mix. Among those are Cream's "Sunshine of Your Love" with Thomas, the Beatles' "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" with India.Arie and Yo-Yo Ma, Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing" with Joe Cocker, the Rolling Stones' "Can't You Hear Me Knocking " with Scott Weiland, Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water" and Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Fortunate Son."

Scott Weiland: "The Internet Is Ridiculous"

added 18 June 2010 at 15.57

Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver frontman Scott Weiland has told Xfm that he thinks the internet is "all crap" and no better than the old game of "Chinese whispers" when it comes to accuracy.

"It's all crap," Weiland told Xfm's Ian Camfield. "I read written reviews in major newspapers, but online stuff is like just a hyper-version of telephone.

"It's ridiculous. There are a lot of great things that have come from it, but I think there's a lot of bad things. I think it's destroyed modern journalism. It's turned things incredibly tabloidesque. Anyone who thinks they have passed basic creative writing 101 can be a blogger."

Now back with the reformed STP, Weiland is no stranger to the odd bit of tabloid gossip, and even went as far to say that the classic Arnold Schwarzenegger film 'The Terminator' eerily preicted the rise of the Web.

"Technology is pretty amazing, but it's grown leaps and bounds and it's sort of become ahead of itself. Movies like the original Terminator foresaw what would happen. They are metaphors, of course, but they saw that machines would just take over our lives."

You can hear the full interview in Ian Camfield's Rock Show on Saturday night (June 19).

To continue with Xfm's commitment to accuracy online, we will now end with another quote from Mr Weiland: "Me and Pete Doherty are about to put a band together. It's called The Hype."

It's all there on tape! Honest!

Going into the studio with Scott Weiland again today. Writing songs for his new solo record.

It's going to be a more raw/rock sound. More like a live band playing in the studio. The way it should be. No word on release date, too soon to tell. But hopefully it won't take as long as the last one!!

Scott Weiland will perform not one but two STP albums at the Howard Theatre

February 6, 2013

The oft-erratic and occasionally crooning frontman of the  influential alternative rock band ? who we last saw lounge-singing Christmas tunes at the 9:30 Club ? will perform 1992′s ?Core? and 1994′s ?Purple? back-to-back when he plays the Howard on March 11. But ?The Purple to the Core? tour isn?t an STP reunion: It?s Weiland, his backing band and two jewel cases full of memories. (?Caiiiin youuuu seeee ??)

Tickets go on sale Thursday at 3 p.m. through Ticketmaster. $39.50 in advance, $45 at the door.

I hope it's because of the crappy setlist and not because he got on stage at midnight when he was supposed to be on at 9:00. After all...

Aside from the late start and crappy setlist, how was the backing band and Scott's performance?

Never got into his solo work as much as STP/VR, though I thought the first half of Happy in Galoshes was strong.

He's among my favorite live performers today.
I've seen him multiple times over the years with STP and VR and would say his performances vary.
He's never really disappointed, but has shown up with more energy at some shows than others.
Voice has always been strong.

I bought the tickets before it was billed as Purple At The Core.
Was looking forward to something I hadn't seen before, different takes, solo work etc.

Hoping it's not a B-Grade STP show.

Haha that show at the Gramercy was the first time I was thrown out of a concert.  My friend and I were so infuriated with how late he went on and we were extremely drunk as well.  I just kept shouting "This is worse than Chernobyl" over and over again.  The security guard put his hand on my shoulder and said "IIIIIII think its time for you to leave" and I asked if I could finish my beer first.  He laughed and said go ahead, so I pounded it and we left.  Worst show I've ever been to.

Just checked the setlist of the Gramercy show, and safe to say I'd probably be disappointed as well.
I'd like to think Dead Flowers would help salvage the show to some extent.

In his defense, he was touring his cover album, which I've yet to hear, but looks like the setlist is made up primarily of that album.

Going solely by youtube videos of other more recent shows, I like the way he switches up Do It for the Kids for example.
Hoping for something along those lines.

Scott's new album will be a rock album, and on the tour...

Stone Temple Pilots' Weiland wild about solo tour kicking off March 1 at Machine Shop in Flint

FLINT, MI -- Known as the flamboyant yet chaotic frontman of the Stone Temple Pilots, Scott Weiland is spending his Sunday much like the rest of the world. He's cleaning his house.

However, he saves a few minutes for an interview to advance his tour that starts at The Machine Shop on Friday, March 1.

"I'm really looking forward to it," Weiland said about his run with his solo band The Wildabouts. "It's going to be really exciting--something completely new."

During the 20-city jaunt, the rock icon will, for the first time as a solo artist, perform songs from the first two Stone Temple Pilots albums, 1992's "Core" and 1994's "Purple," both of which are considered classics by the band?s fans.

"Well, originally, it was an idea I came up with for STP for the anniversary of 'Core' to do the 'Core' album in its entirety," Weiland said, choosing his words carefully.

"The rest of the guys didn't want to do it.
So, it was still something that there was a lot of public interest in. Having that said, the idea was brought up to me through management. I talked to the guys in my solo band, The Wildabouts, and they were totally into it, as were the promoters. It worked out."

Weiland said he will still perform, during encores, some of his solo material from the albums "12 Bar Blues" and "'Happy' in Galoshes."

"We're still going to do some of our space jams and have them correlate into some of our STP songs and a couple STP songs into a couple of the covers that we've done during our solo band stuff," Weiland said.

Weiland and The Wildabouts -- multi-instrumentalist Doug Grean, bassist Tommy Black, drummer Dan Thompson and guitarist Jeremy Brown -- are working on a new album, he said. But none of those songs will debut live until the record has bowed.

"Previously, it was an art project," he said. "We're making a new album at this point. This is something where the new album is more of a rock 'n' roll album, as opposed to more of the sort of outside-the-box artistic sonic adventures that we've gone on in the past.

"The record that we're making, hopefully will attract more of the STP and Velvet Revolver fans. I think it will also help that we're doing this tour this way."

The album is halfway finished
, with all The Wildabouts contributing songs and ideas. The band is contemplating different offers right now.

"Hopefully by the time the tour's finished, we'll already be in some negotiations," he said. "But we're self-producing it, which isn't hard, unless you have a group of guys like STP where every single person in the band is a producer.

"It's not as difficult in this situation. We're writing together. It's actually a lot easier. We're allowing everyone to put in their input and it's coming across much more as a rock 'n' roll record, but it's much more organic sounding."

Cool show last night in Boston.
First time being at the Wilbur Theatre, which was much smaller than I expected.
Sound was great, and not a bad seat in the house.

The show was pretty much what I was hoping for.
I've seen STP and VR many times over, so was hoping for something different, rather than straight up cover songs.
They delivered, changing songs up enough to make it a unique show, but not enough to sacrifice the integrity of the originals.

Highlights for me were Naked Sunday, the Bowie cover, Jean Genie, and Kitchenware & Candybars(Scott nailed this one).
Hearing Where the River Goes was great. They segued into Mountain Song by Jane's Addiction, which was cool, but was hoping they'd come back into and end with WTRG.
Oh well.

Big Empty never disappoints.
Paralysis translated really well live, wouldn't have minded hearing some more solo stuff, but the crowd was clearly there for the STP hits.
Overall, it was a solid rock n' roll show, and I can think of worse ways to spend $35 than to watch one of the last and greatest frontmen of our time.

Setlist:

Opening Jam
Crackerman (Early Version)
Wicked Garden
Paralysis
Naked Sunday
Creep
The Jean Genie
Kitchenware & Candybars
Where the River Goes
Mountain Song
Big Empty
Can't Stand Me Now
Still Remains
Interstate Love Song

Encore:
Roadhouse Blues
Sex Type Thing

Yeah, I guess he was a bit.
Show started at 8:00, with one opening band, and Weiland took the stage sometime after 10:00.
Info was hard to come by, I called the muppets working at Wilbur and they didn't know how many opening bands there were, or if there were any at all.
I had seen in previous shows, there was at least one opener, and 2 at others, so I planned accordingly, showed up @9:30.
We were also getting hammered with snow that night, average of 14-18" by morning.

The people posting that it was a horrible show, and that Scott flubbed the lyrics, failed to realize that was intentional, playing the original demo version of Crackerman.
I thought it was cool, as I hadn't ever heard that version in a live setting.

Scott Weiland Irving Plaza Saturday night:

End of Mountain Song and resulting confrontation with fan in the front row...

Scott Weiland - "So you?re fuckin' pulling that fuckin' like gun shit off on me?" "Then come up and meet me one on one, man. You play tough guy from an audience behind a barricade..."

Video: http://www.mobypicture.com/user/jasonpijut/view/14927885

Edit to add more of what he says. :D

The rocker ? who is touring with his solo band, THE WILDABOUTS ? confronted a heckling fan at Irving Plaza, telling the man in the crowd: "So you're fucking pulling that fucking, like, gun shit off on me? Then come up and meet me one on one, man. You play a tough guy from an audience behind a barricade. I'd love to. Yeah, that guy, trust me."

He continued: "I just don't get it. Guys like you fucking waste your money." Then he added to the security staff: "Actually, let him stay here and just get all fucking riled up. He won?t be able to sleep tonight."

A message from Scott from the stage last night.

You know one thing I fucking love, is that, being exploratory, is considered, WOW.  He's back on drugs again. Ya know it's been 11 fucking years, yes.....I do fucking drink sometimes. I go out with my friends and my band and we do drink sometimes. As far as that chick goes, that's been a whole other life away man. A whole life away that doesn't even make a dent in who I am today. But it could make a dent in who you are, because the way I looked at things when I was a kid, I looked at like Perry Farrell I looked at like Charlie Parker maybe there was some kind of connection. You know what, there wasn't. Maybe for the first 5 minutes, that's about it. Until that wet blanket just crawls around your car. Like an anaconda. Then you kinda feel shit, and all the music just comes from your head. And that's it. As far as that goes, (makes a phttt sound), that's it.

The guys is a complete mess! He was doing crack while in VR and keeps repeating this fantasy about being 11 years out of drugs...

Antagonizing with fans and all that shit. I mean, does this guy have any friends or just hangers-on like another friend of ours?

Title: Re: Scott Weiland - solo thread

Well I will say this, I noticed more so than ever being at the Boston show that Weiland sure has some low life "fans".
He's been fired from 2 bands in the past 5 years, so clearly he's not without his issues, but it's seems pretty damn popular to trash the guy in the press these days.
Then, he's got his own so called fan base giving him shit at his solo shows. Now I know every band has their share of idiots, but I never understood why someone would pay to see a show, and then talk shit?

Weiland seems to be under appreciated these days in my opinion. I've always considered him among the best, but I feel comfortable saying that he is, the single best living frontman going today. Just total package, no one today has the stage presence he has, to go along with the amazing voice he's known for, which is damn near as strong as his hey day. I've seen him on both sides of the spectrum, ranging from hammered and almost lethargic in comparison to the full of energy performances I've witnessed, but he has always sung the songs pretty much spot on. His voice and the way he goes about singing the songs has never disappointed me. He must be putting in the work to maintain his voice/range. He's still active creatively, so where's the problem people have with him?
The fact that he may or may not be on drugs? A rock star on drugs??!!
Hopefully for his sake he can get/stay clean, but it's got nothing to do with his music, and none of my or any other "fan's" business.

End rant.

Cool video and performance by the way!
Dig that jam.

Definitely excited about a new Scott Weiland album.  Unlike the dog shit his old band puts out with that dude from Linkin Park, Scott's solo stuff is usually quite good.  He did a one off song for the Avengers soundtrack back in 2012 that was totally under that radar that I thought was pretty awesome.

Nice, glad to hear it.
Gonna snag my copy tomorrow.

Caught the Boston show, and it was rockin!
Much improved from last years show.

They dropped the keyboardist(always a good decision in my opinion), and sacked their lackluster drummer.
They added Joey Castillo of QOTSA, Danzig, Lanegan Band fame, and he?s a beast. I think his addition just makes the band sound so much tighter.
Weiland had a lot of energy, and voice sounded great, especially in such a small venue(400, maybe 500 capacity).

Short show, but worth checking out. Might make my way up to the NH gig in a few months.

Setlist:

Crackerman
Modzilla
Amethyst
Meatplow
The Way She Moves
Big Bang Baby
Hotel Rio
Parachute
White Lightning
Vasoline
The Jean Genie
Dead & Bloated

Encore:
Circles
Unglued

They're supposed to perform live on Sirius/XM this Friday on Howard 100. I'm not sure if that's still on after the passing of the guitarist. What a shame.

Edit - I just heard the promo for the show and apparently it was pre-recorded from Howard Stern's studio. So it will still air on Friday night, despite the loss.

As a huge Qotsa fan i couldnt be happier to hear that Joey joined the wildabouts, he is a top class drummer.

Lets see what is the next turn with this band.
The album is great, and it seems to get a great response as well. Something that should be extra hard when youre called Scott Weiland these days.

Caught the Manchester, NH show and it was pretty kick ass as well.
Same setlist as Boston, but first time they broke out Circles since Jeremy Brown?s passing.

Weiland was pretty energetic, and in great voice.

Cool hearing songs like Amethyst & Hotel Rio live after digesting the album versions.
Both translate well. Still really digging Blaster. Think the first half is really strong, then falls apart a bit with Beach Pop and Parachute, but picks up again with the T-Rex cover and Circles.

Unfortunately looks like Castillo has moved on, which is a shame because he brought a lot to the live show.
On the bright side, Mike Avenaim is his replacement, who plays drums on 3 of Blaster?s strongest tracks in Modzilla, Amethyst and Youth Quake.

Weird seeing Weiland in a small club across the street from the Verizon Center Arena, where I caught STP just 5 or 6 years ago, but cool joint, with good sound.

I think Joey is still in the band, at least i hope. https://www.facebook.com/ScottWeiland/posts/10152780403170685

My favourite song from blaster might be Hotel Rio.

Yeah, Hotel Rio is my favorite as well. Liked it right off the bat, and was worried I?d grow tired of it as it?s pretty catchy, but I?m still playing the shit out of it.
Sounded great live, too.

What do think of the album Happy in Galoshes?

I think its great. Just listened to it again. Songs like Pictures and Computers, Sentimental Halos, Reel Around a Fountain cover, and Blind Confusion. Are one of his best songs.

I dig it.
It?s different. Obviously thanks in large part to the varying personnel, but can appreciate how his sound is always evolving.
No two of his records sound the same, whether it be STP, VR, solo or with the Wildabouts.

Standouts for me are probably Tangle with Your Mind, Paralysis and The Man I Didn?t Know, but can dig the majority of it.

My go to Weiland material will always be the first 3 STP records, but I?ve enjoyed each solo record more than the previous.
Damn shame about Jeremy Brown, because I think they were a really solid new band. The new incarnation is great live, so hopefully that could translate in the studio should they choose to record new material.

Rio is a earworm huh!

Art Of Anarchy single didnt make a big impression in me. the album is out next week! Lets see what Scott has has for us this time.

Blue Eyes is catchy too! (quite similiar to Rio) I think there isint a single bad song on Blaster. The album is growing on me.

Lenny Kravitz cancelled his finnish date couple years back. Mot?rhead cancelled its gig twice last year.

SCOTT WEILAND
FOUND DEAD ON TOUR BUS

Rock star Scott Weiland was found dead on his tour bus in Minnesota ... TMZ has learned.
Weiland was on tour with his band Scott Weiland & the Wildabouts ... they were supposed to play the Medina Ballroom tonight, but the show was cancelled.
A source connected to the band tells us Scott was found Thursday night on the bus around 9 PM -- presumably, shortly before the band was to go on.
The former lead singer for Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver famously battled substance abuse for years. It's unclear right now what caused his death.
Scott was 48.

Story developing ...

But....I can't say I'm surprised.  Is there anyone reading this who DOESN'T suspect, strongly, it was an overdose?  Scott's inner demons seemed to ultimately win every war. He just couldn't seem to overcome his substance abuse issues....and that, too, is very sad.

Like everyone else, I'm not surprised. Maybe the biggest surprise is that he made it to 48, unlike some of his peers (Kurt, Layne). STP were always that fifth "grunge" band lumped in with the big four from Seattle but they really were much more than just another alt rock band when at their best.

Glad I got to see them when the self-titled album came out.

Damn. I guess it?s never truly shocking when a rockstar passes away, but tragic nonetheless.
Scott was absolutely one of rock?s last great frontmen, and still creating/performing at a high level.
Outside of Axl, when he was on, Scott?s stage presence was unrivaled.

I am so bummed about this.  Was always an STP fan and loved VR.  I even loved Libertad, which I know several people in the VR/GNR world despise.  The last time I saw Scott live was a disaster (I've posted on here about it before) and while I never paid to see him live after that I of course continued to respect him and the work he's done. What makes it even more sad is that this happened not even a year after his guitarist died at 34.  Scott himself posted about how upset he was about it.

VR statement, I found it on Duff FB

We are deeply saddened to learn of the loss of our old friend and bandmate, Scott Weiland. We experienced a good chunk of life with Scott, and even in his darkest times, we all had hope and love for him. His artistry will live on, of that, there is no doubt.

Deepest condolences and sadness are for his children, Noah and Lucy. We all travelled around this world together on tour; our band, wives, and kids?and we grew to a big family that still remains to this day.

It?s just so sad and brutal from any perspective.

Rest In Peace Scott

Dear Scott,
Let us start by saying thank you for sharing your life with us.
Together we crafted a legacy of music that has given so many people happiness and great memories.
The memories are many, and they run deep for us.
We know amidst the good and the bad you struggled, time and time again.
It?s what made you who you were.
You were gifted beyond words, Scott.
Part of that gift was part of your curse.
With deep sorrow for you and your family, we are saddened to see you go.
All of our love and respect.
We will miss you brother,

Truly sad, even if seemingly inevitable.   :(

It appears there was a small amount of cocaine found in the bedroom on the bus where Scott was found. Also, a guy that was traveling with Scott has been arrested for possession of a small amount of cocaine.

http://www.tmz.com/2015/12/04/scott-weiland-cocaine-band-member-arrested/ (http://www.tmz.com/2015/12/04/scott-weiland-cocaine-band-member-arrested/)

Scott Weiland's bandmate Tommy Black has been arrested for possession of cocaine on the tour bus where Scott died.

Police say they found a small quantity of a suspected controlled substance that field tested positive as cocaine in the bedroom where Scott was found.

They also found another small amount of the same substance in an area of the bus occupied by Black ... who is a guitarist for Scott Weiland and The Wildabouts.

Black was arrested and booked for 5th degree felony possession of drugs.

As we reported, several legendary musicians were in touch with each other 4 days before Scott died, saying he was back on drugs ... specifically crack cocaine.

Scott made his choice. He burned bridges with STP, VR and Doug Grean, which had been his producer and member of his solo band for years. He chose to be surrounded by enablers and yes men.

Even the Art of anarchy thing was a chance for him to be surrounded by better people, but he was so quick to dismiss the guys... Very sad because I always thought he would recover and be the great performer he once was, but in the end it was his choice.  :'(

I got to see VR play three times...

Once at Jones Beach outdoors, one time in Jersey they did a Christmas radio station event with Korn as co headliners which was cool and I saw them at Hammerstein Ballroom on New Years Eve one year which was really an awesome night, went with my girlfriend at the time. (the same Hammerstein in NYC that Axl and GNR played 4 nights in 2006, which I was at 3 of the 4 nights)

Looking back on those nights fondly the last day or so.

I'm surprisingly sad that he died. He's one of these figures that I'd felt would be around a long time- getting in and out of trouble and never aging. Saw VR in D.C. shortly before the release of Contraband. They were exciting when they first started out because no one had seen the G N' R guys on national level in a long time and besides the Hollywood show it was interesting to hear what their setlist would be. If memory serves, Slash played without the top hat and only brought it out for the encore and the audience went nuts. There were some drunk ladies behind me who kept yelling out "I want to @#$% you Scott Weiland" much to my chagrin over the music. I wonder if the bassist of the Wildabouts will face charges. It's only rock and roll, which is why I set it aside a while ago and only revisit it now and then.

Bitter ex ?

Are you serious....

She has to raise those kids on her own now...well she already has been, and she has to go to sleep each night knowing the pain her kids now have with having their father kill himself with years of drug abuse.

I think her letter is great... 100 percent spot on and a shame that he wasn't there for his kids...which is really what's important in life... not his rock n roll career.

I have mixed feelings about it.  Clearly, she and the kids suffered tremendously.  But I suspect they would have suffered even more if someone as troubled as him was more present in their lives.  Also, there's the whole speaking ill of the dead thing.  I think it's acceptable to criticize the dead when it comes to public figures regarding public matters.  But on private matters where the deceased has no opportunity to respond?  Plus, many of his failings may have been due to mental illness, which he would have had very limited control over.

I don't doubt that mental illness/his addiction clouded his decision making.. but I don't give him a pass for it.

I'm a full time single father... and I can't fathom any parent who chooses anything over their children. Dealing with my kid's mom is a pain in the ass too! but everyday I pick him up from school and every Saturday I'm there for him no matter how much i'd love to not have to deal with her.

Now publicly blasting a dead person who can't respond... I get it... but I don't think that was her point in writing the letter.

Everyone grieves differently, so I wouldn?t begrudge her for posting what she did.
I think there is an overall positive message she?s trying to convey, but I can see where it comes off as attacking someone that can no longer defend his self.
Then again, if he truly was a dead beat dad(bad choice of words), maybe he deserves it, and much more?
That?s between him and Mary.
That?s their personal life.

There?s 3 sides to every story, and we are probably better off not knowing about the personal lives of entertainers we are fans of.
I think it?s kind of creepy when people get swept up in it.

I don?t know, and was never a fan of Scott Weiland the father.
I grew up with his music, and am a big fan of Scott Weiland the musician/entertainer.

He got ripped apart in the press over the last few years. A lot of people have done a 180 and are now praising him because everybody is instantly awesome once they die.
As phony as that is, I think it?s better than vilifying someone for their personal life, or trying to get to the bottom of how he died, so that you can decide to continue feeling sorry for him, or you can say ?I told you so? if it?s drug related.

Obviously you hope the best for his kids, but I won?t pretend to know all the details of his personal life, or pretend I care to.

I do know I?m thankful for his contribution to music.
Rock n Roll got a lot more boring with his passing.

I doubt anything she said about their personal life was wrong or very inaccurate, but I notice that while she harshly criticizes Scott here, and also blames his fan base for encouraging/enabling him, she doesn't take any responsibility herself for starting a family with the guy. I mean, Scott was... always this way. The writing was on the wall that he might not be the most attentive father in the world.

while she harshly criticizes Scott here, and also blames his fan base for encouraging/enabling him,

I think she was blaming society in general for fixations on celebrities (or a rock star in this case) on how "cool" it allegedly is to be a degenerate because that's supposedly "so rock n roll".  I think she said it all at the end there when she said that the drugs and decadence don't have to be part of rock n roll.  We just live in a society that not only accepts it, but fixates on it, celebrates it, and wallows in it.

Just so sad on so many levels.  :'(

RIP Scott and all who passed under similar, but non-headline grabbing, circumstances.

RIP Scott, I got to see VR twice, once in a half bowl setup at the acc in toronto and it started late, and then again at the Molson Amphitheatre with Alice in Chains and both shows rocked

The Wildabouts were quite wild indeed, in their short existence half of the band died of accidental overdoses.

Not saying that it is a cool thing or anything. Just saying.

This is very, very sad.  He was an amazing talent.

But....I can't say I'm surprised.  Is there anyone reading this who DOESN'T suspect, strongly, it was an overdose?  Scott's inner demons seemed to ultimately win every war. He just couldn't seem to overcome his substance abuse issues....and that, too, is very sad.

RIP, Scott.
I'm not sure, initial reports seem to indicate he passed in his sleep.

Cause of death: Multiple drug overdoses.

Bad, bad cocktail of stuff in his system.

It's a sad story...and one I think we've all heard too many times.  RIP, Scott.

Yeah it sucks... it kinda just happened and seems to be faded already. Casual fans or casual rock people forget how good he was man.

I was telling my wife this fall that I'm surprised no one has found him dead yet from an overdose too. After seeing that zonked out performance of Vasoline I was shocked to know he was still doing stuff.

It's sad.

Howard Stern gave a nice little tribute to Scott after his passing.

Remembering Scott Weiland: It?s Been A Long Year, Since You?ve Been Gone
By Nicolas Henderson -

Legendary Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver frontman Scott Weiland passed away a year ago today. To celebrate his life on this sad anniversary, Alternative Nation is going to take a look back at some of Weiland?s most intimate musical moments.

While Scott Weiland was best known for lighting up stages with his signature megaphone on tracks like ?Crackerman? and ?Sex Type Thing,? few were better than him at performing in a stripped-down setting, often times showcasing his most elegant vocal work on softer tracks such as ?Atlanta? and ?Wonderful.?

Here are his top 10 acoustic performances, and following the list are a group of previously unreleased Scott Weiland tribute graphics made on photos of the late singer throughout his career that Alternative Nation owner Brett Buchanan had made during his time as Weiland?s social media manager (one of which is the featured photo for this article). The tribute photos were edited with the help of Below Empty user justbill, and feature Stone Temple Pilots? iconic fleuron logo from Shangri-La Dee Da. One of the originally commissioned photos remains as Weiland?s Facebook profile picture.

Good choises. I think my favourite is Tiny Music. You should check that one out.
Scott also said in one of his interviews last year that he thinks that tiny music is his favourite STP album

Mine too is Tiny Music, though Purple is almost as good in my ears.
I also think their last album was pretty underrated.

One year has passed, but it's still really sad....

Tiny music is great too. Tripping on a hole in a paper heart one of their best songs on that album imo.

Same feelings,

Two months ago i played Scotts whole discography from Core to Art of Anarchy. And read his book, it had been a long time since ive heard some of those albums. He was a truly unique artist.

The 2010 STP album has some great stand alone tracks like Take a load off, dare if you dare, Maver. But as a album for me its their worst by some margin.

i still have my ticket for a cancelled Wildabouts show for september 2015 :'(.
