I downloaded CD 1 and it was the same quality as the first post (about 128kbps, or even worse). So if it was meant to be 256kbps, this is half of that quality.

I encoded the files at 256kbps, with VBR enabled. If that's not good enough for you I strongly suggest you stop complaining, get yourself an account at the trader's den,  buy yourself some audio conversion software, convert the files and upload them yourself to show all us idiots how its done.

I was going to do just that...but it seems the OP has removed the files from rapidshare.

i'm not sure what stating a fact has to do with "complaining".  God, if you fuck up or don't know what you're doing, that's fine, mistakes can happen - but accept then also that you didn't do quite correctly what you said you'd do, and what you did was of little help to anyone.  And don't simply get offended when someone points out your mistake.  You're not in kindergarten anymore, are you?

@ Will: I upload in rapidshare because I know for a fact that i can trust that server, and that the files will be online almost forever (1 download in 30 days is a piece of cake). And Rapidshare is the fastest of the free servers.

Variable Bitrate is a ''smart'' way of encoding audio files. When you configure your software to encode in VBR, you can set ''256 kbps'', but that's just an estimated parameter. When you go to ''properties'' to see the bitrate of an MP3 VBR you'll see the average value. For live concerts, my experience tells me when you use VBR, the average bitrate will be always lower than the parameter you used.

in 2010, where there are no more compatibility problems with VBR, there's not a single reason to prefer CBR encoding than VBR. Oh, and if you're interested in quality, do not download this. Discussing about mp3 bitrates is just silly if you have FLAC files out there...

Estebanf - that's it exactly. Why anyone is complaining about various choices being offered when the original FLACs are still up there for anyone to grab is beyond me.

Ignorant people telling me I've done "something wrong" and "made a mistake" when I put up a VBR conversion and label it as such just piss me off.

I was talking to another poster who uploaded the files for 256kbps MP3s on Rapidshare and the links weren't available anymore. ;)
I think there are other servers hosted elsewhere who are also very efficient, but there's no problem, it all works.

About "kbps": 128, 192, 256, 320, etc. Generally it sounds better on a 320kbps MP3, but 192 or even 256 might be enough for a lot of people. ;) It's just a matter of compression, the more it's "compressed", the less the sound is "precise". The compression cuts a lot of treble and bass, etc. Also, as estebanf said, a 320kbps is a lot heavier. If a 128kbps is 5MB, the same song in 256kbps will be 10MB. ;)

About the servers speeds: it depends on where you're located and how many people are downloading when you start your download. For instance, it happened to me to get 5kbps on MegaUpload and 150kbps on free.fr. Generally I get 80kbps on Rapidshare, but it's very limited for non premium members. It just depends.

that is right. but, MP3 compression always distorts the original. especially basses become more prominent, no matter what bitrate you use. far better for lossy compression are formats like OGG Vorbis, which sound far more like original than MP3. their problem is much worse overall support than MP3. oh well...

anyway, when we're talking about this - you always need to see things from two points of view. first, you have original sound, usually compressed with some lossless algorithm like FLAC. people militantly supporting this format want to preserve 100% quality of the original - no matter how tiny is the difference when you compress it with lossy algorithm, they just demand the original quality. the rest of people just want some reasonable quality with high compression - you also can't blame those, because they just want to listen, and some little difference from the original is no problem. so, both of these people are right if you try to understand their point of view. so much about lossy/lossless fights.

Damn! I wish I could share and upload all this stuff like I always do and live this with you guys but I'm far from home for holidays. However is good to see how many people are sharing their ass off...Very cool

I dled the flacs and I dled gunsgguy 230 mp3 version, I am not sure if anyone else had a problem with Nightrain? When extracting it said it was corrupt?, it extracted all else, and I went back to extract as separate file and still it didn't work? just putting that out there in case there may be a script or some error in it.

This is the best show of Guns N' Roses i ever heard.

One complain though: it's a shame how crappy Frank drum sounds in this recording. Its a shame because sometimes Ferrer is the star... man he hit the drums hard...

Totally agree man; and I know, much like myself you've got all the boots.

Don't get me wrong...I LOVE this show, this is like the Ritz 88 or Chicago '92 or Paris '92 of the 21st century but talking about quality nothing could defeat 2007 japanese recordings (yet). You listen to Frank in those recording and he's satan hitting the drums of hell, in this recording he's like hitting a plastic bowl or something... It's a shame because the guy is the greatest drummer that Guns N' Roses ever had imo.

If someone can send me the original pics in the first post (they can't be displayed anymore due to bandwidth limitations), I could put them on my server. These weren't the pics of the jewel cases with the sleeves (like I've seen in the torrent), but scans of the sleeves.

I used TagTuner to implement the cover directly into the MP3s so your player will display it, and I also edited the tags for each one (it includes the album name, song title, etc.). I did it for myself so I uploaded it in case others would like that too. Not really useful if you already have them but anyway... ;)
