Title: 2016 Summer Olympics
Post by: TheBaconman on July 18, 2016, 05:30:14 PM
Let's start a thread for this

I am a huge amateur sports fan.   Not a fan of pros in the Olympics.    Especially since our candain star tennis king pulled out

Russia is in a lot of trouble for there over the top dopping

Personal story.
At a time I could run.  I could jump.  I could throw.   I could do 10 events very good when I was young.    I was fed every horse pill and milkshake possible once I was noticed as being good.   Then in my last year of big school my knee desires it does not want to be in my body any more

Fact is though.  I garantee most everyone is on some sorta crap  Every nation

And Carol Lewis was the worst

Edit
Thanks beautiful princess

Meant 2016!   Haha

Yeah I'm sure you're a great swimmer in your bathtub

You don't care about swimming. No big deal, uh? When I was in school I participated in a swim competition. I got silver medal doing free style. I didn't expect it but I got it.  I know how it feels to be in the podium.  ;D

I'm a big fun of swiming. I still do it today. Can you swim back and forth in a olympic size pool for near an hour?

I can't speak for bacon, but I can categorically say "no".

But then, I'm quite sure I can find other things, that will make me sweaty, that I'd rather do for an hour.  But..admittedly...I probably won't win medals for them, nor do I particularly want people watching me do them. :P

Well I what I did was just a school competition. I went with no expections. I wasn't freaking out or anything. I didn't know how good or bad the other girls were.

I begun learning how to swim when I was like 4 or 5 years old. I always liked to be in the water. When I was younger during summer vacation I could spend the whole day at the beach. I'm a summer person  ;D  I've always been. And in my appartment building we have a big swiming pool. I don't go to swim everyday. But If I have a really nice swiming pool it would be silly not to enjoy it.

I used to do some running as well. But a few years ago I hurt myself, sprain anckles (yeah both of them) while traning with some friends for one of those marathons that are very popular these days. So I very much give up running  :(

Canada has this great thing set up this year on TV>  There are around 8 dedicated channels to all the different events.   It will be great.

When I grew up all that was available was the American prime time show.  Ugh.   That is still on and just the most homerish one sided crap I have ever seen.

I want to watch events from the best people in the world, not just because they are from my country.  And a whole event, not just highlights

And no gymnastics!!!!!!!!!   haha

Except in the Winter when Curling is on, then we have no real horse in that race.

Here is Europe we also have  at least 8 channels dedicated to sports only. It's not something we just set up this year. It has been going on for a while. For the olympics the most important channels to watch are Eurosport 1 and 2. So we are all going to watch all that takes place and not just highlights nor just my fellow country athtles, with gymnastics included.  :smoking:

Curling is fun

And if actually makes for good tv

But that has nothing to do with these Olympics.

I have a Canadian as a fav in the 200 m possible.   Candian woman in the decathlon.   My old event.   And pole vault.      Let's go Canada

The greatest country in the world!

I'm most interested to see if Phelps can add to his already record total of medals.

Opening day!!

Canada still hasn't called me to participate    I still think I could run a 9.81 100M.   Probably good for a bronze.

Good read below.   Usain Bolt, hope to sweep his 3 events!  Well duh!   I would say these races will be closer than any other year.....   The americans have a great 100m guy (who is on the juice), Canadians have a great 200M clean athlete and a very good relay team.   Cant wait

Opening ceremonies over and watched

Skipped most of the couriers entrances.  Watched lots

Watched everything once all countries got in the building

Brazil can put on a party

I reaLly loved the singing and dancing

I really like the new Olympic flame and all the lighting it took to do it

I overly loved the light show.  All the fireworks.   On the big screen in suround sound.  It was epic.   Some of the best fireworks ever

Best thing of all though was watching it with the two young kids and them asking to stay up and watch more.    Two future Olympians here!

Besides they built a really nice court in Copacabana Beach. Nice view of everything.

I've been enjoying men Water Polo and I don't mean the competition. Really well built bodies, those guys are really hot  ;D

It is nice a lot of this is live since the time difference is only a few hours. I hated when they were in Sochi and i had to be careful about looking on espn or on my phone to not find out the results.

Rugby 7 Women, the final will be New Zealand playing against Australia. I was expecting something a bit different in the Olympics. That's pretty much the final in the traditional Rugby World Cup (men) or the Southern Hemisfere Rugby Union anual Tournament. So 7 or 15 players nothing change

There are so many styles of swimming    Geeze.    Its like a knot tieing contest

What up with Micheal Phelps and all those bruzes on his body.

Looks like Tom Hanks in the movie Philidlphia  hahaha

Wow Katie Ledecky destroys the WR and competition again. She's only 19 too. She's going to be doing this for several more olympic games. She might be the female Michael Phelps.

Unreal 100m tonight

Way to go Canada!   The world has officially seen the future of sprinting!

Our kid is 21. Weights 160. Looks like a child compared to the 30 year old bolt or the juice head American Gatlin.

Just great!

Decathlon starts tomorrow.   Canada also has a great shot at gold. Will be very toughening has the only clean American athlete is the best decathlon man in the world.  Very impressive

De grase second in the 200m.  Zero way he could beat bolt. But sure looked good. And showed the world the future of sprint on is on Canada.

Bronze for Canada in decathlon.  I am a little disappointed.  The pole vault killed us.   That's the make it or break it event out of the 10

Tonight men's 4-100 relay.  Canada has a great shot at a medal.   Silver will be very impressive.  I would be happy with bronze

These Olympics have just flown by

Lochte and some teammates went out partying.  The got drunk and had the taxi driver stop at a gas station so they could go pee.  The restroom door must have been locked but instead of asking for the key, they broke the door in and peed all over the floor.  The gas station attendants confronted them and asked they pay for the damage.  They tried to leave without paying by getting back into their taxi.  The gas station attendant pulled a gun on them and again demanded they pay for the damage.  Once they paid, they were allowed to leave without any more (rightful) hassle by the attendants.  Lochte made up the story about being robbed by people dressed like the police.  Lochte did tv interviews telling the false story and left Rio (the other 3 swimmers were arrested/detained for a while but eventually released).   Video tapes of the incident and after proved the lies.

U.S. pole vaulter stops mid-stride to stand at attention for national anthem

When 'The Star-Spangled Banner' started playing during his competition in Rio, U.S. pole vaulter Sam Kendricks literally dropped what he was doing to pay respect to the national anthem.

Kendricks, 23, a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserve, was flying down the runway on his way to a vault when he abruptly stopped, dropped his pole and stood at attention when he heard the anthem playing.

The patriotic act by Kendricks came during a qualifying jump last week and drew praise from many.

One of 18 U.S. athletes in Rio who also serve in the military, he ended up finishing with a bronze medal thanks to a vault of 19 feet, 2 1/4 inches.

The Mississippi native became the first American to take home a medal in that event since Timothy Mack won gold in Athens in 2004. A two-time NCAA champion, he also is the first athlete from the University of Mississippi to win an Olympic medal.

Kendricks comes from a military family, as his father, Scott, served 10 years in the U.S. marines and is now his son's coach in the pole vault.

"Those guys are really proud of me and have given me every chance to continue as a civilian," Kendricks told the official Team USA website. "(I'm proud) to represent the Americans on two fronts, as a military man and as a U.S. athlete."
