Title: Slash's Gold Top
Post by: Eduardo on July 22, 2016, 09:43:10 PM
Hello all!

I'm a guitar player myself. In fact, Slash was the one that inspired me to grab a guitar. That was 16 years ago. He remains one of my biggest influences.

I've always wondered what's different about Slash's Gold Top. Its tone is clearly different from his other LP's, it has a deeper, sweeter lead tone. That's why he uses it on songs like NR, Estranged, LALD, etc.

Anyone here knows what makes it so different? Pickups, maybe?

My understanding is that prior to SD releasing his signature pickup, all of his guitars were converted to Alnico 2 Pro Seymour Duncan's... Some are custom wound a little hotter than others. As far as tone, it would also depend on how the guitars are wired and what capacitors they use... that would specifically make a huge difference in how he is able to play songs like Estranged where he is regularly rolling off the volume and playing with his tone.
