I'm assuming show time is 8 so I'll be back in a few hours.  In the meantime,

No 'Nightrain'?  No KOHD?

setlist.fm must be mistaken, right?

Can someone explain the significance of "Perhaps" is this Chidem era music or like shadow of your love UYI era release?

It was one of the few actually complete songs that didn't make the cut.

Unlike 97% of the tracks that had no vocals.  It's a cool tune, I think.

It's actually a pretty cool song. And now it's possible it'll be the next official release from GnR. Yeah, I still wanna hear what they can come up with right now, but I'll take anything I can get!

Man, what the hell is with 'Wichita Lineman'?

Don't get me wrong, I think Axl does a nice job with it.  But I just think it's such a weird choice.

And how many legs now?

Definitely excited that Perhaps could be coming soon!

Yes it's time to put Wichita to bed, there are far better songs in G n' R's catalog than that.

The Garden comes to mind there's not a lot of rasp in that song.

Hopefully but August they'll be playing Perhaps, fingers crossed.

Overall though I am extremely happy with the set list. I'll miss Coma and Better but what ever helps Axl and his voice I'm all for it.

Haven't listened to the demo in a bit but that sounds heavier than I remember Perhaps....

Also there is a set list photo floating around that shows Perhaps, The General, and Locamotive as possible tracks

I did hear the 2 clips from the rehearsals.
Not on the setlist yet but I think and hope it will be played live soon (but it's GNR so anything can happen).

Didn't see the photo with the other songs yet but people say it's fake probably.

I have my bet placed for a Perhaps performance during Friday's show.

No bets for another single release on any song.  They had to give away the pressed singles they had from the looks of it.  I'm thinking singles haven't been a money maker.  Perhaps, a new song, is a ticket seller?  Something I would give a try but, what do I know about this business?   :hihi:  Just shooting craps on my bets.

My fear is that the first performance might have a train wreck quality to it.

I just hope they get it down before they try it live.

That made me laugh.  I suppose that could happen but they are pretty good.

My concern is more along the lines of does it have "it"?  Kind of hard to define what I mean.  The last group of songs they have put out, people wanted to hear just because it was new music.  IMO, they fell short of having "it".  They will get buried in history and not carried on by anybody.  It's okay, again imo, if it doesn't have "it".  There's a drive out there to hear the next piece of new music that keeps the band touring and the faith of the fans that they will produce a song with "it".

I don't expect the band to be the hit makers they were in the beginning.  I would like to see the band to put out something where I'm not going that was just okay, what else do you have?  Then again, what do I know, I'm a big fan of Wichita.

about the covers : 'Wichita Lineman'is great, 'TV Eye' is the worst GNR cover to date, 'Down on the Farm' is great.

maybe not the most radio friendly, but it was already the case with Absurd (and who's still listening to radio anyway?)

I don't see the point to include the track if it's not the future single ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

New setlist is great, so no complaints really. Dnt mind WL being in the set. But dnt need that and Patience I suppose. One or the other maybe? But  How Don't Cry doesn't get in every setlist is a bit odd. It's always a fan favourite in polls etc and one of their most well known tunes. Has to be in there everytime surely?

Let me elaborate.

I consider 'There Was A Time' to be far and away the bet song on CD.  It's the only song from that era that would have a hope in hell of making my Top 10-Top 15.

Here's the rub.  Axl can't remotely do it live.  I wouldn't think it was a tough one to sing, but Axl can't do it.  They are all terrible.  Not one passable live version exists.

I'd hate for that to be the first way people hear 'Perhaps'.  And the vocal style i not that different than TWAT.  So I don't see Axl killing it.

I disagree... I think Better was the best song on CD.  Perhaps is I feel with now Slash and Duff could have a lot of potential.  It would be cool if it was added in a Netflix or Hulu series episode... kinda like how Kate Bush was with Stranger Things.... obviously that was an old song, but maybe somewhere a long the lines... of promotion.

Axl sings better like he's a whipped pup.  If he'd sing it like he was going to kick somebody's ass, that song would pop.  Evil intentions go a long way.  He nailed it one night.  I think he was pissed about something and just stood there seething with anger.

Title: Re: Tel Aviv June 5, 2023
Post by: DeN on June 08, 2023, 06:53:57 AM

"Perhaps" is almost only midrange / low register voice so I don't see any particular problem in terms of live rendering,
it's Axl's natural/talking voice, IMO the most difficult part to sing is the "say you're more than a bargain whore...you're all alone" one because it's in higher range and he can't compress anymore to obtain the rasp the part needs, but well, he'll manage in falsetto without it...
