VELVET REVOLVER: 2002 Vocalist Audition MP3 Posted Online - July 22, 2005
A VELVET REVOLVER vocalist audition tape, featuring former NEUROTICA/ATHEIST frontman Kelly Shaefer, has been posted online at Shaefer's official web site, KellyShafer.com. The song in question, entitled "Eye for an Eye", was "a live demo recording that Slash and the gang had recorded in L.A. and sent to Kelly to write lyrics and sing on," reads a posting on Shaefer's web site. "After hearing the four songs he did, he was asked to come to L.A. and jam with the band. Many news outlets had reported Kelly as the new singer, the jam went great, and Kelly was almost in. Scott Weiland announced he was leaving STONE TEMPLE PILOTS, and so he was inevitably chosen to be the guy! So this is a rare glimpse of what VELVET REVOLVER ALMOST sounded like."

It sounds ok, the music sounds good, but I don't like the vocals. I'm glad they picked Scott instead of him.

If you actually go to kellyshaefer.com, there's another demo called "Room 169" and it sounds like the same music that the guys were jamming on in "The Rise of Velvet Revolver" when Scott first walked in the studio for his audition.  I'm not sure if that's the right scene, but I'm sure I heard that song during the special.  Can someone confirm?

Fuck me, this rocks!

Shame about the vocals... I mean, they're far from bad, but they're very 80's rock and they almost make the band seem cartoon like... but the music is fucking superb!  Like it!

Lets hope it's on the next record!

Wow, that was pretty cool... I thought the vocals were ok.. I wouldn't say 80's at all.  It sounded very punk to me.. More punk than all these wannabe punk bands out today.

Yeah, wow!
I was really surprised how great those songs were. Eye for an eye reminds me of Backyard Babies. Nice to know that VR has some great leftovers. Hopefully they will use some of the for the future releases, maybe b-sides.

Thank God Scott came aboard otherwise it would have been Snakepit all over again...musically and vocally

the songs are cool, but they are not VR... they are a different band, much closer to GNR/Snakepit sound.

Did anyone else see a similarity between this guys voice and axl's? i mean some of the endings with the vibrato are identical...
