so it sounds to me like slash is running an eq boost with the mids on high. Is he boosting the guitar into the amp, or is he eq-ing the hole stup with an FX loop? and how can he boost his solos if he is using and eq all the time? a volume pedal maybe? help me out here darkburst.

I think the control room/board does the switching for him on the most part. because I would study his feet Cheesy

he use to run a Boss EQ GE-7 in the loop with delay.   More recently he just changed to a different EQ in which I forget the name right now.

JCM800's have a fx loop right?

I dunno, this might help:? "A Bradshaw/Custom Audio Electronics splitter/switcher selects between two pairs of Slash signature model Marshall JCM heads - one for dirty the other for clean. In one of the effects loops sits a Rocktron Hush IICX noise gate, along with an MXR 10 band? EQ (for lead boost) and a Boss DD-3 delay. The other loop is dry exept for the Hush."

That extract is from an interview with Adam Day, hope it helps? ok

So he EQs the whole tone if the MXR 10 band is in the FX loop. And to answer a previous post; he new JCM800 reissue has a built in FX loop. Sadly, the 80's does not, as mine does not. But on the good side, mine is all vintage, not some reissue. I don't think those things sound that good anyways,  tried one at Sam Ash...

The EQ is only turned on during solos. I think it'll work as a boost either way but will sound slightly different through the loop.

thats kind of nutty. He gets such high Mids through his amp. I'm attempting to achieve a certain mid boost when using the neck pickup to make it more potent, but it doesn't even out the bridge to well... boosting any mid and teble sliders gives me a thin sound, but when i boost the bass, the neck pickup presence diminishes.

Don't forget that he also uses the EQ boost to get some wild feedback during the songs.

Hi just talked to Adam (Slash's tech) by e-mail,about Slash pedal settings....
MXR 10 band EQ and Boss DD-3 on effect loop.
MXR setting: An upside down smile, means a midrange boost fading off at high treble and bass sliders, with gain slider at +6 and volume sliders at 0;
Boss Delay is setting as a slapback with level at 11 o'clock, feedback at 10 o' clock, delay time at 8 o' clock, and mode at 800 ms.
Hope it helps.
