85-94 i like the most. it is by far superior not just the music but the image too

While the current musicians in GNR are good, they arent GREAT & miss that stage prescense & image needed to stand out on stage. However the current line up is MUCH more improved on the 2001-2002 band & image. Its not really GNR thou but its looking to be a very good band

LOVE the new lineup...but miss the best guitarist GN'R ever had BUCKETHEAD...no one holds a candle to him.  Plays the solos great...Bumblefoot is good but NOT great like Buckethead (until he proves me otherwise).  I say 2002 lineup.

Yeah, if Buckethead was still in the band it would be amazing.  I like Ron, he's very good and to be fair he had almost no time to rehearse and did a great job considering he joined the band a week before the shows, but Buckethead is on another planet, his skills are unreal and his solos were just awesome the old songs and on the leaks

Anybody that likes the band now better than 87-93 is  either : 1. has never seen the original band.   2. doesn't know a thing about music  3. is deaf/blind   4.  in denial  or 5.  fuckin stupid.   I like the new band and Axl is good for an old man  (better than 90% percent of the kids singing now)  but no way is this band better  . We should compare this band with Velvet revolver  not GNR. Just because this band is called GNR doesn't make it GNR.  This is Axl Rose band  nothing more.   So I think a more logical title for this thread is  " Who likes Axl's band better than VR"?? that is more appropriate.
Fair enough, I understand your opinion completely. This new band kicks the fucking shit out of Velvet Revolver and any other band out there today. From the leaks and live versions of songs we've heard this is undeniable. They still need a Jungle type song before we can really rate them musically on the same level as the original band.

ok. Well if so how does the new band own VR? like ur so convinced in ur reply but how so?

What new material has the new GNR released? nothing but Ohh My God & has leaked some DEMO's & LIVE performances. & while those leaks for the most part have been good, its like what 5-6 songs, & are a totally different type of music than what VR wants to do, which is hard full on rock n roll.

Contraband had double the amount of songs we've heard from the new GNR & tehy also did a few covers in studio (Negative creep cover is better than Nirvana's original) & also a song for Fantastic 4. I thought the album was very good , it isnt a classic like Appetite, but then again, the new GNR's stuff isnt CLASSIC either.

Both bands have a different style so its hard to compare really but I have to say there much more stage prescence from VR in total than there is in the new GNR. Axls the only one with a real prescense in the new one. Duff & Slash have always had a prescense as well as being great at what they do rather than just being "very good". Duff Slash & Izzy had a presense & combined with Axl the greatest (if not short term) rock n roll lead man of all time thats was part of teh reason GNR was so big when it first came out.

I'd say VR has the advantage at this stage, we'll see what happens when CD comes out then we'll have a real gage as to who performed better.

Either way i listen to GNR, STP, VR & AXL (yes its just Axl not guns n roses ppl wake up time [for the gnr name] to ddiiiiieeeeeee) & enjoy all immensely & am not about to choose sides like half the people here

I still miss Slash, but Axl is doing the rigth thing. In 2001 he try to be the old Axl but now he is trying to be himself more modern Axl.

For me it's not the old band or the new.  Both bands were phenomenal, and both camps will tell you that.  They are all artists, and will stick together.  Duff and Tommy are pretty decent friends.  I am personally done with, and tired of, the "old vs. new" baloney.  This is not sports, this is music, which is not "win or lose," or "blank and white."

I will say this, the vibe I get from the new guy's is so positive!  It may be because they aren't twenty something punks anymore, or because they are involved with other bands I love. More than anything, though, I really dig some of the world peace organizations Robin supports, the New York hipsters Fortus play's with, the band Perfect, Primus, Tool, and the collective talent that embodies this version 2!  Right now, I am digging the new band, and more than anything, digging their potential!!

Amen to that brutha...

I'm tired of all the "this just isn't gnr without slash... axl should do this or that.... fink sucks... the new songs aren't sweet child etc etc etc"

Yes this isn't vintage gnr. But since that was no longer a possibility back when slash quiet in 96 its time to move the fuck on.

While robin isn't slash and richard isn't izzy... I DON"T CARE. I love the new band. They have a ton of chemistry, the new songs aren't brillant, robin's solo's are better than anything i've heard slash do post gnr, and in the end the new band is a serious force in modern music....

is it gnr as we use to know it... NO... is it suppose to be... NO.... does it fucking rocking... YES

so get use to it. Either accept it, or go post in the dead horse section

Wow...there are some major dumbasses here....you'd take this circus over the most dangerous band in the world? Shocked None of the guys have any stage presence whatsoever and none of them look like rockstars. Just compare the swagger and rock star vibe of Duff, Slash and Izzy...they still look badass. the new band look like they come from the indie circuit....

& thats gonna be the hardest thing to overcome. This isnt 1960. Everything these days from movies to music is based alot on the image. Its the reason Jessica Simpson's cover of "boots" did so well on the charts, despite it being a shit cover. It was the image of her strutting in the video that people will think of whenthey listen to that song.

The music can sound real good but if the image aint there unfortunately they wont get then attention they would like

We take it because it's not 1987 anymore. Either you deal with that and stop calling us dumbasses or leave.

Rock star vibe of Duff? Have you actually seen any of the old boots? Duff goes from a cool rock guy to a bloated alcoholic that looks like he doesnt know where the fuck he is. Is that cool mate? He nearly killed himself!

I love this new band. I miss some of Buckethead stuff (most because of the demos), but I'm cool with Ron.  ok

I don't mind being a dumbass if it means I'm able to enjoy the musical chops of the new band more than the old-school rock style of the previous version.

Tonight I dreamed about Rock am Ring (2 days ahead) and that Slash, Duff, Izzy and Steven entered the stage after the new guys fucked up the old songs and that Axl really enjoyed to play with the old guys.........I was very happy when I woke up but then it turns into....? Angry .......although I really like the new band, especially Robin and Tommy! So, deep in the empty back of my head I still wish the old band would reunite but I also respect and like the new band......so, I don't know, I'm very confused now? confused hihi and hope it will be a great concert friday night ! beer

I don't think the new band will ever surpass the old band, because they were lightning in a bottle.? But some of the songs the new band is producing stand up to the best work of the old band, particularly The Blues and TWAT

You know this band was like a family. I dont think axl and his new band would ever come as close as the originals were. i mean axl will never spend his life with tommy or finch anymore living at the hell house. or losing money because they're van broke down. or hitchhiking. or dealin drugs and huge coke parties and shit.

see the original 5 were the best. i know its fucked up to view it as that way. but just because you fill the spots doesnt mean you really replace the person. it was the original 5 that made guns n roses what it is today. not bumblefoot, not BH not finch not even dizzy. it was stevie, slash, axl, duff and izzy.

The new band kicks ass, and their songs like twat and better are right up there with songs like estranged or coma or dont cry. And axl is as amazing as ever. I just dont see myself ever forgetting the old guys. i think they were great and i dont think gnr will ever be the same. but hey it pretty damn close.

No one can top the 87-93 GNR. They were the best.
The 01-02 were pathetic.
This version is in-between, better  than 01-02, not as  good as the original band.
