Any fans here? I love these guys - important but forgotten band from the British scene in the 70s.

Most famous for the Bowie influenced/produced album (All the Young Dudes) but their stuff before and after is just as good.

Well, they do sound different so you may want to try them out first with a little downloading. Their easiest album to find, and probably the one most worth getting apart from All the Young Dudes, is their Self Titled from 1969.

"All The Young Dudes" is one of my favorite albums of all time, the title track is roughly my second favorite song of all time, I'm a sucker for glam rock and documentarian lyrics. Never found their other albums around, but have downloaded some of their other stuff (Roll Away The Stone, Golden Age, ATWTM) and dug it.

Also has anyone noticed that everyone who sings "Dudes" song seems to change the lyrics slightly?

For example Bowie's goes "stealing clothes from unlocked cars" Mott's goes "from Marks and Sparks" Bruce Dickinson changes "my brother's back at home," to "my father's back at home" and so forth with every different version I've heard. Anyone know a reason for this? Is it some kind of tradition at this point?
