Following this year's Farm Aid festival, John Mellencamp will embark on an arena tour that will pass through 10 states across America's heartland.

The first leg of the outing kicks off Oct. 26 in Terre Haute, IN, and stretches through mid-November. The itinerary is listed below.

Fan club members will have access to tickets beginning Thursday (8/30). Details are available at Mellencamp's website.

Before the singer settles into his tour bus, he'll perform Sept. 6 at Indianapolis' RCA Dome to celebrate the NFL's season-opening game between the Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints. That performance will be televised by NBC as part of the network's pre-game special.

Mellencamp will then jet to New York City Sept. 9 for the star-studded Farm Aid 2007: A Home Grown Festival. The Grammy-winning singer co-founded Farm Aid with Willie Nelson and Neil Young to help support family farmers.

On tour, Mellencamp and his band--guitarists Mike Wanchic and Andy York, drummer Dane Clark, bassist John Gunnell, violinist Miriam Sturm and keyboardist Troye Kinnett--are expected to dig deep into the singer/songwriter's repertoire and preview music from a new album they're working on.

Are there any more shows after the St Louis one?

I got into Mellencamp pretty big in the 90s, I liked him in the 80s, too, but
I really liked his early 90s stuff.

John Mellencamp adds East Coast run

John Mellencamp has added a second leg to his upcoming US tour, which will feature fellow roots rockers Los Lobos in the opening slot.

The first half of the trek launches Oct. 26 in Terre Haute, IN, and stops in 10 states across America's heartland through mid-November. After Thanksgiving weekend, it will resume with 10 dates along the East Coast. Details are listed below.

"These shows are all about the music and the songs; that's the essence of what we'll be bringing," Mellencamp said in a statement announcing the new dates. "The bands and I are really looking forward to getting out there and performing some new songs and, of course, a lot that are familiar to everybody. It'll be a fantastic experience for the audience and all of us."

Some of the new songs he mentioned are from an upcoming studio effort--Mellencamp's 22nd career album--that he has been working on with producer T Bone Burnett. One track, "Jena," from the as-yet-untitled set is streaming at Mellencamp's MySpace page, as is the video for the song.

The Grammy-winning singer will preview "Jena" live for the first time this afternoon (10/5) when he joins Burnett for a 4 p.m. set at the annual Strictly Hardly Bluegrass Festival in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. The event is free and no tickets are required.

In January, Mellencamp released "Freedom's Road," his first album of original material since 2001's "Cuttin' Heads." The politically charged record peaked at No. 5 on The Billboard 200 and spawned crossover hits "Our Country" and "The Americans."

Meanwhile, Mellencamp is among the nine artists nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next year. Five new inductees will be honored at the annual ceremony in New York City next March.

John Mellencamp has lined up a summer tour surrounding the release his forthcoming new album, the T Bone Burnett-produced "Life, Death, Love and Freedom."

The Indiana native--who was recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame--will kick off the outing July 8 in Philadelphia. The 12-city tour will continue through early August. Dates are below.

Members of Mellencamp's online fan community will be offered early access to premium seating packages through an Internet pre-sale. More information can be found at Mellencamp's official website.

"Life, Death, Love and Freedom" is the 22nd studio album of Mellencamp's career. Due in stores July 15 on Starbucks' Hear Music label, the album tackles a darker side of the current state of America, according to the singer.

"I realized our country has written some sad motherf---in' songs," Mellencamp recently told Rolling Stone magazine. "I wanted to see if I had it in me to write like that. I see darkness everywhere, and I have to write about it. I don't care if I just sell six records. All I can do is keep on writing songs and singing."

The album's first single, "Jena," was released in October in response to the racially charged situation in that Louisiana town.

"The story is not, strictly speaking, about the town of Jena or this specific incident but of racism in America," Mellencamp said in a press statement. "The song was not written as an indictment of the people of Jena but, rather, as a condemnation of racism, a problem which I've reflected in many songs, a problem that still plagues our country today."

Mellencamp's previous release, last year's "Freedom's Road," emerged at No. 5 on The Billboard 200, earning him his highest debut ever. The set spawned crossover hits "The Americans" and "Our Country," the latter of which received a Grammy nod in the "Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance" category.

The performer was inducted into the Rock and Roll of Fame last month with fellow 2008 class members Madonna, The Ventures, Leonard Cohen and The Dave Clark Five.

Meh, I'm actually from the same "Small Town" as Mellencamp. But, if I'm in the mood for that kind of music, I'll go with Tom Petty every time.
