Marmite Militia, taking over one piece of toast at a time!!!

« on: November 21, 2007, 07:52:28 AM »

So, I picked up Rock Band yesterday.

Love it!

The guitar stuff is more of the same of Guitar Hero (which isn't a bad thing).  The solo game is much deeper (CREATE YOUR OWN ROCKER), but the track listing doesn't really take off until late in the game.  I like the way Guitar Hero smatters it's "good stuff" throughout the whole game.  Rock Band seems to keep the REALLY good stuff (and maybe it's just my preferences speaking here) til late.  That said, there's AMPLE stuff to play.

The drums, and vocals, are REALLY cool.  I picked the drums up pretty quick.  Rest assured that you don't have to be Axl to sing vocals, either.  It's more about pitch and tonal modulation than it is about having a good singing voice (which I'm sure our neighbors will HATE.... Smiley ).  And the solo modes for both of those games offer DIFFERENT songs, and a different set list, than the others.

But the game REALLY shines in band mode.  Playing locally (my wife and I jammed out last night) or on-line, the game is just a blast!  And there's already downloadable content out there.  Metallica has 3 songs, the Police have 3 songs, plus there are some "singels" out there......and the packs are cheaper than GH's song packs by a couple quarters.  The singles are 1.99 apiece, the packs are (I think) 5.49.

So, anyone else playing?  What do you all think?

Is it the actual artists on the songs? How much does it cost? I was thinking of getting one around Xmas.

I haven't bought it myself yet, but I've played it....from what I've seen so far....I love it, it blows Guitar Hero out of the water...and I LOVED Guitar Hero, theres just so much more to do...The price doesn't bother me at all, for a game that will keep me busy for a LONG time, $160 ain't bad.   I get more pissed off when I drop $60 on a game and I finish it in less than a week.

Haha, true.  But I still would rather get him something he will really like instead of something he will say "oh thanks" to and not really care for.  I'm guessing I'll have to decide fairly soon since the next shipment doesn't seem to be going out til Dec. 9 and they are ridiculous on Ebay.

He'll love it Bandita.

The guitar parts are a little easier on Easy and Medium...but still not "boringly" easy.  They're roughly comparable on hard and expert, IMHO.  So far, Sandman has been the "BITCH" song for me.

I'm LOVING the drums...my wife is digging the vocals.

I think $160 vs $100 for Guitar Hero III, considering you get a drum kit and a mic along with a guitar is pretty reasonable.

Also, the guitar hero guitar is SUPPOSED (I haven't tried it yet) to work with the game....so you COULD buy the "game only" if you already have GH III...you just would miss out on the "extras" on the guitar (effect selector and solo buttons)...and the drums.  ANY USB mic will work for the vocals section...you can get one for about $10 or less (granted, not as nice as the one that comes with Rock Band) at a local electronics (think Best buy) store.

Also, the individual instrucments should be out for Rock Band just after the start of the new year.

Thanks a lot, pilferk!  I think he would really enjoy the drums so I am looking to get the Special Edition.  Seems I will be hitting up Ebay since it's on backorder everywhere else!

Xbox 360 or PS3 version?

I'll keep an eye out and if I see any links online, I'll post 'em here for you.

PS3 version:

xbox 360 version:

I wish they just had a stand alone drum package... then I'd buy... but right now it's too steep in terms of cost, when I won't really be using the mic/already have a 360 guitar.

They will...after the 1st of the year.  I think the current "release date" on the stand alones is late January/early February.  It was last time I checked, but it may have been pushed back...there was talk of doing that because the demand has been so high they're just trying to pump out the "Special Edition" bundles.

People are selling the drums only on Ebay but for what they are going for it makes sense just to buy the bundle.
