The last Canadian owned national chain of music stores is going to closing down. Music World, which has five stores in Ottawa Gatineau has been put into bankruptcy protection by its new owners, and will likely close down all 72 of its stores in Canada by the new year. By that time, British owned HMV will be the final chain to exist across Canada, the once huge business of music retailing laid low by big-box stores selling CD's as loss leaders, sales over the internet and music downloading. The closures follow the loss of Canada's other big music chain Sam the Record man last year.
