Can't believe every cop got acquitted.  Sharpton said hes going to "shut down the city" or something like that.  Shit, I think Monday is going to be a shitty day trying to get to work.

I just hope there is no more senseless violence.  I'm all for a protest so long as its peaceful.

Actually, didn't the guy and his buddies get in their car, hit one of the undercover cops while trying to back up and then ram the van that the police were using?  I mean...maybe, just maybe the cops had a feeling that the guys were trying to take them out?  Sure it's shady, but in this case it's really hard to know.  Now in the case of Amadou Diallo....that was pure unwarranted police brutality.  All he did was pull out his wallet.  This one, while showing excessive force on the police's part........still has some shady tones to it.

PUH FUCKING LEASE - so anyone with a badge, undercover no less, can just open fire on someone without saying "we're cops, police, get down on the ground!"  the fact that one guy reloaded and wasn't accused of excessive force is a joke.  one guy was shot NINETEEN times!!!  one cop reloaded twice?!?!? come on.

i think NYC cops are great, but they are not infallible.  at the very least they should have been charged with something.

and still, nothing mentioned so far has to do with race...

he was not gunned down for no reason...he was not listening to the police..and from what I heard they thought one of his friends had a gun.....the guy who reloaded a few times actually works out at my gym....im dont really know him but my friend who is a state trooper that I work out with is good friends with him and he says he is a stand up guy that has NEVER had any problems in the past as far as using excessive force...ill try to get some details about what went down and let you know...but from what i heard they thought he had a gun....

now as far as the race issue, the fact that Al Sharpton is involved shows you its all about race...if it was a white guy who got gunned down Sharpton would not have given two shits.....if anyone were to act on Sharpton encouraging them to "shut the city down" he ought to be thrown in prison...

March of the Pigs

Don't shoot the messenger 50 times......

http://www.ny1.com/ny1/content/index.jsp?stid=1&aid=81196

The Reverend Al Sharpton and supporters of police shooting victim Sean Bell said Saturday that they plan to carry out acts of civil disobedience next Wednesday to protest the acquittals of the three detectives charged in Bell's death.

Sharpton says protestors will gather at six locations for a citywide pray-in. He was joined for the announcement Saturday at the National Action Network by Bell's fianc?e Nicole Paultre-Bell and Bell's friend Trent Benefield who was shot and wounded the same night Bell was killed. The group joined in prayer for those willing to get arrested in the name of protest.

The goal of the protests is to tie up traffic and force police to make arrests. Sharpton says the protests will continue on a weekly basis, leading up to what he hopes will be a citywide shutdown.

"If you're not going to lock up the guilty in this town, then I guess you're going to have to lock up the innocent. Since you won't lock up the cops, then lock up those that are fighting for justice," said Sharpton.

"On Wednesday I will be there, and everyone who is willing to support us, please come out and we're going to do this peacefully, like we always have," said Paultre-Bell.

"I am willing to make a sacrifice," said New York NAACP president Hazel Dukes. "I'm tired of being sick and tired."

Sharpton says the fight for justice is far from over.

"What some in the press is trying to do is bury the story and act like it's over," said Sharpton. "It ain't over because we cannot live with a verdict that says police are justified with no crime, no probably cause, shooting three unarmed innocent men and walking away like our lives don't mean anything."

Bell was shot on November 25, 2006 by undercover police detectives who opened fire on him and his two friends after they say they heard one of them mention a gun. The three detectives were acquitted on all charges on April 25th.

The locations for Wednesday's gatherings are as follows:

# Third Avenue at 125th Street;
# Park Avenue at 34th Street;
# Third Avenue at 60th Street;
# Varick and Houston Streets;
# One Police Plaza;
# 415 Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn.

"There will be small groups in each place and they will meet there at the same time and at the same time we are going to have a city-wide pray-in," said Sharpton. "Where we going those that know won't say and those that say don't know."

Protestors held a rally outside the 103rd Precinct in Queens Friday, where the three acquitted detectives worked.

"The cops have to realize that they can't just go around shooting people and asking questions afterwards," said one protester. "They have to realize that we are human beings and they have to treat us like human beings."

"We're out here today because a week ago today, a judge let go the police who murdered Sean Bell in cold blood," added another. "They sent a message last Friday that the lives of black and brown youth in this country are worth nothing, and we're out here today to say that we're drawing the line."

There was a heavy police presence at the rally, including officers from the anti-riot unit, but no arrests were made.

In an exclusive interview Friday, Bell?s parents described the moments after they found out their son had been killed.

Speaking with NY1?s Dominic Carter on Friday's edition of Inside City Hall, Valerie and William Bell said they found their son handcuffed on a gurney in Jamaica Hospital after he died.

They also said they never received any official information in the hours after the shooting.

Valerie Bell: Police officers didn't call me, the hospital didn't call me. My son's sister-in-law called me.

Carter: And when you folks arrived at the hospital, what happened?

Valerie Bell: They told us what happened, and I just can't believe that they wouldn't let us see him.

William Bell: For six hours we had to wait.

Valerie Bell: A doctor did not come to me, I just heard all the news from friends and family in the room we were waiting in.

Bell's father described seeing his son's body.

William Bell: To be handcuffed, here's a dead body handcuffed on the gurney.

Carter: He was still handcuffed when you -

William Bell: Yes he was, handcuffed on the gurney.

Carter: Deceased at the time?

William Bell: Yes, deceased at the time, exactly, exactly. I felt his body and I felt his hands and I felt the chains on his hands.

Bell's mother went on to say she accepts the apology of Detective Michael Cooper, who did so publicly after he was acquitted.

Bell's father said it's too late for an apology.

Dude, I agree with you, but c'mon....you failed (like most people are seemingly doing) to acknowledge the fact that he hit a policeman with his car and rammed a police van trying to getaway from the police.  I agree the cops used excessive force, but the initial call for firing shots MAY have been justified if Bell was trying to run people over in his car.  Cops have a civic duty to protect themselves and other innocent bystanders.  It's just something we can't tell until video surveillance or something pops up.

i don't know all the details by any means, but from what i've heard the cops didn't announce that they were police and so if you see some guys coming after you with guns then what would you do? i mean was he supposed to just sit in his car and wait for them to come get him? he probably thought they were going to kill him, he didn't know they were cops.

We've had similar instances here in the Chi. Cops killed a dude that was at a bachelor party and about to be married. No one knows all the details exactly but the cops shot the guy dead and the cops were put on trial and acquitted of the murder. The family was plenty pissed. Growing up in a cop family - some not all - I thought my uncles were nuts and scary. They would pull their guns out and shoot mailboxes up on a residential street. They got away with things like that because it was a different time. But the police department has always been corrupt here and while it was probably a racial thing back when I was growing up, it has become much more a cop protecting their own. Doesn't matter the race, cops will stick together like glue and fabricate a whole story just to stay out of trouble.

Because it's happened several times here in the past few years, the mayor has actually had to bring in an outside source to try and clean up the department. The tipping point was the cop caught on video, after closing hours, harassing a female bartendar for more drinks and then starting to hit her because she wouldn't serve him anymore after closing. I'm sure you guys saw this news story. Well, before that, a bunch of cops killed a teenager who had nothing on him meaning weapons but they shot him over and over again. And they were brought to trial and acquitted. It just seems like there are different rules if they commit a crime versus us regular people.

I don't doubt in my mind that the cops collaborated to come up with a passible story to tell to the media. Face it, everything is corrupt. I don't even trust the people who are supposed to serve and protect. I've had some experiences and cops are brutal just to be brutal to show hey I can f*ck your life in ten million ways. And if you get roughed up in the process, well you deserve it because they look at you like scum.

I just hope this doesn't happen too often. It's really a useless tradegy. no
