Download is looking more bollocks than ever.  In 2006 they had Tool, Metallica nd GN'R.  Compare that to this year and you'll see what I mean.  2006 was a dream lineup of headliners.

Well they need to sell tickets some how. People would get bored if Tool Metallica and GNR played every year.
Granted, i wouldnt but Download isnt Monsters Of Rock  anymore unfortunately and they have to get a whole spectrum of bands to appeal these days and sell tickets. Couple that with more and more genres and sub genres of rock/metal music.

You're right though, that was a dream lineup and one of the reasons i attended, that and the board meet up.

They pulled out all the stops that year.

I just fancy something different, different culture, different climate, good bands and nicer weed. Hence the going abroad.

If Lowlands in Holland is on, i may go to that.  smoking

Jonathan Davis (Korn), Chris Cornell & Jimmy Eat World have all been added.  That's pretty sweet, I'm really into Jimmy Eat World at the moment and also am a big fan of Cornell's solo stuff.

I don't know... The experience 'll make it worth it no doubt. My main problem is that not only is the schedule packed with bands that I would have no active interest in seeing, but there are a fair few that I would actively attempt to AVOID.

So no love for KISS or Kid Rock?  And there is the experience of meeting some HTGTHers, you wimped out with an exam when GN'R were there didn't you? Tongue

Latitude you say, never heard of it, so I wikipedia'd it, like you do, comedy wise, it seems fantastic (Bailey, Amstell), the music though....*Insert scratches head icon*

Haha, that weren't no fault of my own! And anyway, I did say that the experience would be worth it. But also as I just said, all be it in another thread, I've just shelled out ?150 to see Roger Waters (I'm paying for both tickets!!, what a mug I am), ?30 to see Steve Coogan (got me ticket this morning bright and early when they went on sale) ?130 odd for Latitude and then a meagre ?17.50 to see Jerry Sadowitz. The point being, all of that is money I don't have. So any more tickets be buying, that I ain't be doing anytime soon. Err.

Anyway, aye'm, ahem, I'm about as clueless on the music front, Latitude wise, as yourself. But I'm glad that you picked up on the comedy because, fuck me, like last year it justifies the ticket price alone. Last year we had Bailey and Howard again as well as Stewart Lee, Russel Kane... I could go on, but I won't. Mainly because my memory is awful. But we also have Rich Hall this year. Fantastic!

Bands wise, The Mars Volta, Sigur Ros and Grinderman (Nick Cave) are most definitely worth a punt. Also, I mean, last year there were a ton that I hadn't heard of, you know, quirky like, that are well worth the effort as well.

If I had the money going spare I'd probably go for the comedy but with my extreme spending and Download, Iron Maiden, Monster Magnet (Plus travel costs, since I'm a Northern Bloke and I'm doing Donny and London x2) I think I'll pass.  It's a shame they can't bring that comedy together with great bands, saying that then I'd be split over who to go and see.....Maiden or Bailey.....Amstell or GN'R.

Aye. Thing is, it's much more a literature, poetry and all that sort festival. More continental, apparantly. But the atmosphere last year was fantastic. Security was god awful and the toilets were attrocious (and that's by festival standards!), but the place where it's held is, for want of a much better word... Lovely. Beautiful? Well, you know. All that jazz. I mean, last year, I only saw a handful of bands. No... Less than that! I saw Good, the Bad and the Queen, Arcade Fire, CSS and, err... Well, actually, that was pretty much it. But I had one of the best times of my last year!

Haha!, no she fucking ain't. She isn't even that keen. The only album she knows is Dark Side, though she does really like it. She was furious when she found out how much they cost and that I had actually bought them... Thing is, I could do with companionship, and my other Pink Floyd/Waters minded friends don't drive, so...

Sounds like a festival 5 years ahead of my time, maybe for when I mature a bit more, funny you say all that Jazz because with the comedy acts it would really work as a 100% Jazz Festival, oh and good work, at University I made sure I got a mrs with a car...

... And you'd have no complaints from me.

Oh, and a car is a must. A car driven by a woman, even better.

To the fucking bastard that thought it would be fun to push and flip over a portaloo while someone was inside, resulting in me being literally covered in shit and piss from head to toe: FUCK YOU! YOU ARE A WORTHLESS CUNT, YOU FUCKING SON OF A BITCH!!!!!

Now the important bit: To all the people that helped me through my "ordeal", the nice couple that were with me all the way, helping me clean up, trying to get my phone working, giving me cigarrettes while I waited for the security people to take me from there: Thank you so much, guys, you rock. Sorry, I was so freaked out I didn't even get your names. I owe you. And to the girl that gave me a pink blanket to cover myself after taking all my clothes off and having a couple of buckets of cold water poured over me: Again, thank you so very much. I have your blanket if you want it back. Well, it's in the washing machine...

Apart from that.... yeah, it was a good Download
