Bose, if you've got at least $350 to drop.

I haven't exactly been freaked out about bose. They seem overrated. Any cheaper brands? I am no into ear buds either.

Sennheiser HD580, HD600 or HD650, with the latter being the most expensive. They will sound leaps and bounds better than Bose anything. Or, if you don't mind them being on the uncomfortable side, have a look at Grado 'phones, they're renowned for their bright nature which is perfect for Rock. The Sennheisers are a little bit laid back but the detail is very good.
Bear in mind that standard PC audio is very bad quality unless you have a decent sound card. You would want to look at a USB Dac and Headphone amplifier. This one is a DAC and headphone amp in one and would complete the setup:

For something cheaper I'd recommend Etymotic ER-6i earbuds, they're freaking awesome.

I never thought I would go with Shure, but as a treat to myself because of ChiDem coming out I have just bought myself Shure SE530 and oh boy are they amazing (and expensive)... I am really surprised Shure can make such good headphones! All the models sounded great in the comparision with others, from SE 1xx, SE2xx, SE320 (the most optimal ratio of price vs quality) and SE 420 to SE530.
Or I also liked the sound of Denon C751 and C551 ...
Also be sure to read this:

Hope this helps...
