Ever sent in a demo cd before?

It's probably been asked here before, but I don't usually check this part of the site out. Anyway, my friend's band is wanting to send in their demo cd.  it's already copyrighted.  My question is: has anyone here ever sent in a demo cd to a record label before?  and what happend with it.  any info would be a great help

Most labels WONT accept unsolicited CD's from you.  (in other words ones they havent requested).  This is to cover them legally in case you hear a song like yours that you say they ripped off....

The best way to get noticed is by gigging a fucking lot, getting the CD around, to the local press, the NME or whoever... keep getting pushed as much as you can.  Get your tape to MTV2 etc... do what you can but generally the labels are not the way to go.

A label will take notice if you are working hard enough via journalists etc

I had a meeting with Earache Records USA but only because I knew the guy that was their retail rep.  Needles to say - they liked the material but didn't sign the band.

you have to find record labels that have an open demo policy. an open demo policy means u can submit work even though u dont have attorneys or lawyers.

The best thing to do is search the net for Indy labels, find out which ones have this open demo policy and submit those to them.
