An Axl Christmas
In the wake of the complete public apathy towards our 1991 album Looks Like Rain... Tastes Like Chicken, we released An Axl Christmas as a holiday single. As far as we know, this is the only Christmas song about Axl Rose ever written. It's also hopelessly outdated. (Hey Axl, will you hurry up and release another stupid record so we'll sound relevant again?) The nifty lead guitar work (including the eerie Slash-ripoff line that kicks the whole thing off) was done by the great Mike Lecuyer.

An Axl Christmas went on to become our biggest hit. This, of course, was not a difficult position to attain. The song became quite popular on the national Dr. Demento show, and appeared on the show's Funny Five countdown during the holidays throughout the early nineties. Axl was even featured on one of Dr. Demento's Basement Tapes compilation albums, alongside tunes by artists such as "Weird Al" Yankovic and Barnes and Barnes. The song was also picked up by a few Boston-area radio stations.

Despite its questionable shelf life (always an issue when it comes to novelty songs), An Axl Christmas remains a sentimental favorite for us. It has not been available in any format for five years or so. Now we invite you to dust off your G'N'R posters, roast a few chestnuts, and enjoy.

You can download it from their website

The lyrics:

Well I thought that I heard Santa in the chimney christmas eve
But who stepped out of my fireplace I just could not believe
It was a skinny long-haired rock star type all dressed in leather clothes
And I yelled, hey that's not santa claus! That looks like Axl Rose

He said man there've been some changes in the way these holidays run
Now that i'm in charge of christmas we can finally have some fun
We'll sing heavy metal carols & keep the presents for ourselves
We'll send slash to the north ple & let his snakes play with the elves

It's an Axl Christmas, It's a hard rock holiday
So we'll all sing Welcome To The Jungle all the way
We'll slay ride over Paradise City & If we're feelin' rude
We'll burn down all the christmas trees & then we'll get tattooed

Now Axl didn't care about how Christmas used to be
He said I just had Santa's workshop wired for MTV
Yeah Rudolph tried my egg nog so you know he's feelin' fine
And remember Mrs. Claus? Now she's a sweet child o' mine

said no more free gifts if they want this stuff they'll have to buy it
and if they try to take my picture then we'll have a christmas riot
I said Axl you are doing this, I'll run it by my deduction
Y'know, Santa never had this kind of Appetite For Destruction

It's an Axl Christmas, It's a hard rock holiday
Now we're singin' Welcome To The Jungle all the way
We'll slay ride over Paradise City & If we're feelin' rude
We'll burn down all the christmas trees & then we'll get tattooed

It's an Axl Christmas, It's a hard rock holiday
Said we're all singin' Welcome To The Jungle all the way
We'll slay ride over Paradise City & If we're feelin' rude
We'll burn down all the christmas trees & then we'll get tattooed

A Hungarian radio station plays the song and the Hungarian GN'R site's (newera.uw.hu ?ok) admin did some search. Credit goes for him.

I didn't think they were that bad.  I mean they were kinda clever.

Actually "Jingle Hells Bells" by Bob Rivers is a Xmas song about Axl among other people.  It gets quite the bit of airplay during the holiday seasons around here on the rock stations.
